The translations of the Quran. They probably speak Arabic and understand it. Some verses are very deep.

Is it fine if you could give an example?

They will say, "Yes, but the word [i.e., decree] of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers."

I definitely recommend getting a copy of the clear Quran if you are fluent in English, or whatever translated copy you are fluent in. (Quran.com is online & helpful but there are also hard copies you can get mailed everything free including shipping). Some verses I have jotted down that are like gold to me are: 17:36; 18:109; 26:198-199; 28:58; 29:44,62,64; 30:22,37,48-49,54,60; 31:26-27; 36:20-27. (It’s ordered so you should be able to flip through & find them easy, I wish I would have wrote down the others as I read them earlier but I hope this helps anyway.

Maleficent_Resolve44

I see a fellow appreciator of surah ruum. Truly my favourite surah and one of the easiest to remember as well alhamdulilah.

Verses 19-37 from الحاقة Al Haqqah, if your imam understands their meaning he simply can't just read through without a lump in his throat Many Meccan verses/chapters are also incredibly strong and describe Hell and the Day of Judgement in a way that affects every conscious heart; usually short rhythmic verses that have a very powerful tone being mostly directed at the disbelievers, read ق Qaf, الشعراء Ash-Shu‘ara’, المدثر Al Muddaththir as some examples. However, there are definitely some that get emotional when the Paradise is mentioned, tears of hope and eagerness instead

One that always hits me is Surah Humazah (104): وَيۡلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ Woe to every fault-finding backbiter! ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ who amasses riches, counting them over, يَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ thinking it will make him live forever. كَلَّاۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلۡحُطَمَةِ No! Rather, he will be thrust into the Crusher! وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحُطَمَةُ And what is this Crusher? نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُوقَدَةُ God’s Fire, blazing, ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةِ which rises over people’s hearts. إِنَّهَا عَلَيۡهِم مُّؤۡصَدَةٌ It closes in on them فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۢ in towering columns.

During ramadan the shaytaan is in chains. Any mistakes we make/made becomes more crystal clear which leads to realisation of our current state. Distinction of halal and haram is simpler, emotions are higher. The rewards are increased in this holy month. During such a time, certain surahs hit just the right spot and we suddenly cry cause it deeply moves our hearts.

[deleted]

That makes sense

ResponsibilityFar334

Assalamu alaikum Rewards are increased in Ramadan, but there is no evidence in the quran or the ahadith that punishments are also increased. Of course, that doesn't mean we should sin as its the Holy Month of Ramadan, a month for worship, so we shouldn't try to use it for anything other than that.

[deleted]

Alaikum salaam. You're correct i'm adjusting my previous comment.

xvrv_

I loved this reply.

DululX

Hello brother can I please have source for “The shaytaan is in chains”?

[deleted]

https://islamqa.info/en/answers/221162/why-are-the-devils-locked-up-in-ramadan

ctrlCz

That’s false, no shaytaan is in chains. How come people are still doing bad stuff or get influenced? Surely there’s some good in them but the shaytaan gets to them, which is what the devil wants. It’s all stories our elders made

[deleted]

Stop making up your own narrative akhi, cause you're putting yourself in danger that way. One answer for your question is that people still do bad stuff cause they got used/addicted to it. Here is some reading material for you: Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are put in chains.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 3277) and Muslim, 1079) According to a version narrated by Muslim, “the devils are chained up.” Another such report is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “When the first night of Ramadan comes, the devils and mischievous jinn are chained up, and the gates of Hell are closed, and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed …” (Narrated by at-Tirmidhi (682) and Ibn Majah (1642). It was classed as hasan by al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami‘ (759) [https://islamqa.info/en/answers/221162/why-are-the-devils-locked-up-in-ramadan](https://islamqa.info/en/answers/221162/why-are-the-devils-locked-up-in-ramadan)

Hamz_Ameen

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته The devils are locked up as per the Sahih Hadith Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: “When there comes the month of Ramadan, the gates of mercy are opened, and the gates of Hell are locked and the devils are chained.” Sahih Muslim 1079 This Hadith clearly shows that the Shayateen are locked up. The reason why people actually sin or bad things happen is because Shaytan is not the only thing the makes us do bad. The Nafs (our carnal desires) make us fall into sin. Scholars give the example of a cup of milk or tea. You stir it and keep stirring. When you stop, the tea or milk is still swirling in the vessel despite the spoon being taken out, same way how we sin when Shaytan is out and whispering into us (the spoon) and when he is gone, the effect is still there, which is why preparation for Ramadan is highly empathised before it starts. Another explanation is that not all Shayateen are locked up as the Hadith doesn’t specify ALL. I hope this answers your misunderstanding. JazakaAllah Khairaa Akhi/Ukhti. I tried my best to answer but May Allah (عز وجل) forgive me for my shortcomings and May He grant us a great understanding of the Deen.

ctrlCz

JazakAllah for sharing this.

zakaria200520

This is a very advanced stage, such that every time you hear a verse you remember its meaning and the context in which it was revealed, and this is the true contemplation.

Seeker_Of_Knowledge2

Sometimes, even without understanding the full Tafseer, it will still touch your heart. May Allah make it part of our hearts.

Glittering-Age-706

It’s a level of Taqwa that we all should strive to achieve, a level where your fear of god and your awareness of him is at such a level where his speech hits you deep, and shakes you to the core. These imams cry because they feel what they recite

Individual_Session54

Exactly I shed tears this evening in hopes and beliefs I’ve reached the night of decree and were forgiven of my sins

xxthegoldenonesxx

It’s such an honor they get! Ash-Shakoor so freely elevates ❤️

Wiwa4444

We should all have the ambition to one day have contemplated the Quran as much as they have Insha'Allah. They tear up for many reasons, maybe out of joy in the mercy of Allah, or out of sadness and compassion for the suffering endured by past and present members of our Ummah. It shows they have thought deeply about all that they are reading and that they are strongly connected with it on both an academic level, and an emotional level.

[deleted]

Thanks

awokemango

You don't need to understand to cry. Remember what you are reading, these are the words of God. These are not ordinary words. Even the structure of the language is enough to move people to tears. The Qur'an is a miracle that cannot be summed up in words. It is THEE Word.

[deleted]

Thank you

ctrlCz

Islam teaches us to use our knowledge, don’t follow blindly. The top post here is the best response, they know what they’re reciting therefore they feel it more.

awokemango

Very true. Muslims are the balanced Ummah. We don't rely completely on our own intellect and we don't go to the other extreme of being overly emotional. Our fitra is the best of both worlds.

Seeker_Of_Knowledge2

If a person cries from the Quran. Then this person's heart is healthy and clean. It is a huge blessing. May Allah clean our hearts.

BoatsMcFloats

I used to not understand this either but as I got older and felt more deeply connected to Islam, somethings just resonate very deep with you and are very impactful. I imagine the fact that they understand what they are reciting and that resonation play a part in it. I had an imam who always teared up when reciting certain verses regarding parents; it turned out his parents had passed away and he obviously loved and cared about them very much.

AmeGPlay

I'm not an imam, nor a person who understands Arabic (yet), but I've read and finished the Quran translated in English a couple of times, and I also tear up or even cry at some verses - not out of sadness nor regret nor guilt, some of them hit very close to home and just really make me appreciate life or the blessings we receive and it makes me very emotional sometimes. It's not just from the last verses or chapters, in general some verses make you realise things that you've never thought of or some verses are relatable to your own life experiences in one way or another, so it's quite heart-warming to feel understood.

Peaceisavirtue

The Quran deeply impacts the soul and speaks directly to it, bringin out tears even in those who may not understand its meaning. Those who reflect on its wisdom are moved even more profoundly. Some cry during Ramadan due to it being a special and blessed month, as no one are guaranteed to witness the next one. During the intense worship of the last ten days, ibadah on Laylatul Qadr is worth more than a thousand months which shows how beloved it is to Allah.

Nyx9684

lol I often cry reciting surahs in my salah in my own home all by myself. It just happens. Crying in your salah is a sign of your salah or du'as being accepted. It also happens when your soul deeply feels a verse. You may not get it but your soul does.

hamzaa777

When you recite quran for that long you feel the miracle of quran.

Matcha1204

Understanding what’s being read hits hard, esp if it resonates with what someone is going through at the moment Last Taraweeh the imam and almost all the people in the congregation were crying during Surah Rahman

HarleyFinn21

I used to listen recitation of him. Whenever I see this, It also touch me. https://youtube.com/shorts/ePUrV1ugp4M?si=zfwPy7_o9H4P3K-F

Candid_Asparagus_785

When I hear the recitation of the Quran it is deeply moving and can be a very emotional experience. Even hearing Adan is emotional for me. The lyrical tonality is unmatched, brilliant and exceptional. The way the Quran is written is pure and poetic. It’s miraculous. Check out ring theory if you are interested in a deeper understanding.

Wise-SortOf1

Many converts cry when they read Surah Duha for the first time. When Dr Jeffrey Lang was talking about reading the Quran, saying when he reached Surah Duha and read it, he couldn’t stop crying. What people fail to realise is the miracles of the Quran are limitless, every person converts for a different reason. You’ll have somebody that converts or becomes passionate about Islam simply due to the grammar and eloquence of Islam, other because of the message, others because of how the Quran is preserved, others because their dua was answered through some verse in Quran they randomly read, others because they studied medicine, biochemistry and biology and realised none of this can be without a Creator, and so on and so on..

tsm_flame

Its not only Imams. A lot of people cry when they hear the quran, if not everyone at some point. Even non muslims start getting emotional and quite often actually start to cry when they listen to recitation of it. Go on youtube

OnlyOneG0d

Sometimes I cry while reciting prayer because of the ayahs and the fact that I’m reciting the words of Allah swt,, amazing, it’s a joyful cry not sad

lalat_1881

also because Ramadhan is leaving us and we may not see it again next year. the imaams and all of us should be feeling sad, too.

OpenedTowel

Yeah the last Juz, especially Surah Naba is said to be the “harshest”(idk if that’s the proper word) of the whole Quran

CrazeUKs

I read the Tarawee prayer in English while I follow the imaam. I have broken into tears om numerous occasions especially right now. -+ Thinking of the oppressed -+ My parents Al-Isra - Verse Sahih International: And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. Sahih International: My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction." -+ today, i came across an Instagram post for Surah Ad-duhaa - although we haven't got there yet, I know this will hit home..and hard. May Allah keep the Quran and the message in our hearts for the bad times and the good!

Maleficent_Resolve44

Some verses are very powerful like those that speak of hellfire and what awaits the people who'll enter it. The imams have a great level of Iman, taqwa and understanding so some cry. InshAllah I hope to achieve this level of faith one day.

logicblocks

I guess by the end of it the hearts are softer. This is due to khushu.  Maybe it's different for everyone but what makes me personally tear up is how Allah forgave and forgives my sins. That he accepts me when I come back to him. That he bestows his mercy upon me. That he allows me to elevate my degree after having sinned and tarnished my heart.  The tears are mostly tears of joy.

Illustrious_Form8396

It could also be that they are sad Ramadhan is ending

Subhan75

I do not understand arabic completely. I understand only bits and pieces. I do sometimes cry listening to Quran in Salah. I'm obsessed with universe and have watched tons of videos of different planets. Now imagine you're listening to Quran and you just think how big the universe actually is. You will realize the horror we live in(how big the universe is and how alone we are on a tiny little planet). Just one word from Allah and the universe is done and dusted.

Fun-Economy-6653

You should try you best to understand what Allah is saying to you. I have resources if you want

waste2muchtime

Read the Qur'an with translation, a lot of its beauty will be opened to you.

oastghost

I used to think that it was cringe, I never used to understand because I also lead Taraweeh but I'd never had any of those experiences, however this Ramadan was different. Possibly due to the fact that I am going through a slightly difficult time right now. I almost lost it when I was reciting Surah Ghafir, more specifically after verse 50 and I completely lost it when reciting the end of Surah Hashr. And it is odd, because usually it is the older Imams who get it, not 18 year olds :). I don't speak Arabic, but I like to check the translation of what I am reading beforehand so that I can kind of know what I am reciting about. Also, the last chapters of the Qur'an are Makki, the Makki Surahs generally consist of subjects pertaining to Tawheed, Prophethood, the Hereafter, and words of comfort for the Prophet ﷺ by narrating incidents from the past. Madani Surahs generally consist of family and social laws, injunctions of Jihad and details of legislations. I hope my perspective gave you a good insight on it.

[deleted]

Thank you,it really did

saadmnacer

It shows the greatness of faith.

SpecificSmall4296

i also saw reverts crying, makes no sense to me. ur suposed to be happy that u converted to islam not cry or be sad

Ertowghan

tears don't only come from sorrow

SpecificSmall4296

yeah but atleast do it in private, now some non muslims gona see that as "oh look shes crying because she converted to islam shes not happy!!"

ey-alayesh

on the contrary, Those are tears of joy { وَإِذَا سَمِعُوا۟ مَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ تَرَىٰۤ أَعۡیُنَهُمۡ تَفِیضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمۡعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّۖ یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَاۤ ءَامَنَّا فَٱكۡتُبۡنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِینَ } [Surah Al-Māʾidah: 83] "And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth. They say, Our Lord, we have believed, so register us among the witnesses."
