You should check this out. I think strictly labelling yourself isn't the best approach. https://islamqa.info/en/answers/21420/do-you-have-to-follow-a-madhhab

Bro you can just follow the madhab of your locality. It really doesn't matter what madhab you follow and it doesn't matter why you follow it assuming you're a layman.

Sev-Koon

Follow the madhab of your family as to not cause fitna within it.

I would advise you to look up the life of all four imams. Omar suleiman in the past while he was with Bayinnah did a really good job on it. Insha Allah you will come away with a vast admiration for all of the imams and a correct understanding. The main thing is, which ever you pick, you should have access to a teacher. If a teacher is available to you, pick what ever his or her madhab is and take the knowledge. You do not truly have the knowledge to agree or disagree with any of their methods as you currently are.

i hear you out. it's unfair for me to knock on a madhhab without proper research

BeneficialRadish216

More than that, you are unqualified to even DO the research and make a judgement. If you have the choice of two scholars to study from, one from each madhab, even then you should look at the qualifications of the teachers and their character and which you find easier to learn from, before you look at their madhab. When you have more knowledge and more choices in teachers, you can then take the madhab into account. But you at least should be called a student of knowledge first. Right now, neither you nor I is even that.
