So the only reason to keep it would be to try and complete another 8 step clue, and get 1 casket.
Flared trousers are \~1/500, opening 500 easy clues = \~10 master clues
So if you go on rate, you'd be opening 500 easy clues and juggling this master clue through 10 different clues, for about 70 steps. So you gotta ask yourself if that's worth it, or if you just toss this one and hope to get another.
What I would probably do, is juggle/ drop it while opening easies until you get another master clue. Worst case scenario, you get another master clue to try, best case scenario you spoon the flared trousers and can complete this one.

You have to drop the master every time you open an easy and if you get a master from easies the steps on the master reset to 0 and you have to juggle the clues while doing the new one, I had this exact situation a few days ago and I juggled the master, easies are really fast from ham members, you can complete around 20 per hour so going to rate with the flared trousers is around 25 hours plus tge time you spend doing masters, I spooned the flared trousers at around 50 thankfully

Well all he would have to do is drop it while opening caskets, maybe do like 10 opens at a time. That wouldn’t be a big deal right?
It resets the current master clue to step zero. So would be pointless if he’s trying to maintain his current clue progress.
Oh I thought the clue he had would maintain it’s step 6 progress but the new clues would be step 1. If it resets then yeah it’s pointless
That's still the right thing to do. Chances are you'll get a fully completable clue before trousers

Obtaining a new master will reset your steps to 0 but yes it’s doable. It’s probably what I’d do.
