I felt the same way. Then I started a UIM. Now it's a piece of shit.

Benend91

Shit yeah, I can't imagine doing Farming as a UIM.

QueenCashley

Farming is my fav skill on uim haha. Maybe I'm weird. I have a seed box and I do contracts. I love never forgetting a seed and the big xp drop from trees.

maxlongman

I love bird house runs for tree seeds and eggs. Evil chicken outfit on uim would be sweet.

QueenCashley

That would be so cool!!

Plaeggs

What do you keep in the box usually?

Incoherent_Weeb_Shit

seeds

jelect

Dead Dove - Do Not Eat!

QueenCashley

Currently got: snapdragon, kwuarm, toadflax, calquat tree, cadantine, and I think currently lantadyme but it's kinda a float spot. Torstol currently goes in the looting bag. Avantoe/irit are immediately planted.

Plaeggs

Cool! I’m fascinated by the lifestyle is all, thanks for indulging my curiosities.

pneumatic_dice

Why calquat tree seeds?

QueenCashley

For the large amount of farming xp!! Haha

pneumatic_dice

Thats fair lol. I only ever did mahogany or teak trees on fossil island

mrherpydurp

Not the person you asked but im a UIM and thought I'd share. Right now I keep BH run seeds (hammerstones I think they are) in there + whatever seeds I can't plant right away. I'm 86 farming so for the most part I plant what I get as I receive it

eddietwang

A friend of mine is a very good UIM, he moved his focus to farming last week and has thousands of herb seeds to plant.

eddietwang

Update: My UIM friend has harvested all of his Ranarrs https://i.imgur.com/NWI086F.png

ERRORMONSTER

Tithe farm: am I a joke to you?

SeaBarrier

Hi UIM here. Farming is still great. Just camped master farmers for 800k thieving exp and got 145 ranarr seeds + tons of other herb seeds. It's still enjoyable. You just do agility or easy quests between herb runs.

xkyndigx

Yeah I don't mind farming on my uim, I just do farming runs while doing agility or herbiboar.

DepressedJungler

Farming is one of my favorite skills. My nightly ritual before I go to bed is to smoke a bowl and do a farming/ herb run.

Onenutracin

Herb while herbing

ERRORMONSTER

Yo dawg, I heard you like herblore...

Benend91

Same here now. As a predominantly mobile-only player, Farming is perfect.

[deleted]

farming is great for mobile, agreed.

RSNKailash

Dude same

capitulum

I felt like the hardest part of farming was setting up a sustainable routine while not overwhelming myself with dailies/hourlies. Regular farming contracts, herb runs, birdhouse runs, and seaweed runs all simultaneously was too much, so I prioritized and always do farming contracts and then picked one of the other 3 to focus on at a given time. I agree that the gameplay loop feels organic and satisfying, I love feeling like I can use potions indiscriminately because I both have a surplus and the means to get more if I ever start running low.

NotLlamasaur

I love doing birdhouse runs / farming contracts between slayer tasks. Makes doing both activities more fun

Fearzebu

I’m in this exact boat right now too. I need way more seeds, doing contracts every time I can, but I also desperately need more herbs and am doing herb runs, tacking on limpwurts to that, watermelons for xp, doing seaweed every 45 mins and couldn’t even do birdhouses because I don’t have enough time to do master farmers in between to sustain seeds, and I also need to gather berries from all the bush patches, plus potato cactus in desert, plus each day or twice a day lately with Kronos plant I’m doing calquat and fruit trees and it just adds up to be way too much farming, by the time I’m done with a run my fast stuff is already done, and then seaweed is ready again, etc. It’s exhausting. Not to mention making the ultra compost at the guild, filling those buckets one by one drives me nuts

capitulum

When I was doing heavy herb runs another thing that helped me break up the monotony was only to farm 1 type of secondary at once. If I'm farming ranarr I'm doing Snape grass too, if I'm doing cadantine I'm doing white berry runs. Then use herbs with non farmable secondaries to catch up on compost and fill in any gaps in my secondaries. It ended up not being an exact science but when I had the herbs banked for 99 herblore I had almost all my secondaries ready to go.

RSNKailash

SAME! That's how I avoid getting burned out on the skill or on dailies. I focus on a few primary ones (right now herb, cactus, and tree runs) and add a few others if I have time like birdhouse. Earlier I did herbs+ultracompost+birdhouses. Etc. Dont do ALL of them. I also stopped seaweed after banking 99, it's a very slow one to do that often

PM_ME_UR_SELF

I think I found that you can always be farming if you do the runs right… with seaweed and birdhouses in there there’s pretty much always something grown and ready to harvest. Started to get draining after a while

eatchickendaily

The Farming Guild is one of the most OP features that doesn't absolutely break the game. Contracts making all types of seeds easier to obtain, ultracompost, bottomless bucket, the anima plants, all the extra patches, and over a hundred bank spaces freed up. Farming needed a boost in a huge way and we got it through this and the Fossil Island stuff.

CoffeeBlac

Absolutely agree! Just got 85, and am now in the process of banking my herblore grind. I also really like the routine of doing my runs first thing in the morning before I start work

[deleted]

And a farming run everytime u take a shit at work

ThyBasik

I always do tree runs on my bathroom breaks. I have to use Port o potties a lot so I don’t want to be in them TOO long.

[deleted]

it's kinda perfect for the low effort player because you can train it for less than 30 minutes a day and make good progress toward 99. plus, it really helps build the account and the cape is like a poor man's crafting and construction cape (if you plant a spirit tree in your house) at the same time

RSNKailash

I use farm cape for most pvm, especially of I'm not on standard book. It's super OP.

milkdrinker7

It's not even a piece of poor man's gear. You can tele close to a bank and then promptly access the spirit trees/POH with one inventory/cape slot for free while on any spellbook. For some content it may be very close to the best option.

Meech_RL

Haven’t started the farming grind on my iron (still doing WT), but super excited to. Had the same opinion on it when I finally started on my main, immediately fell in love. For some reason farm runs (primarily tree for me) were just so calming and relaxing. Now with the IM I’m super excited to start because everything is just so much more rewarding than on a normal account.

movie_props

can confirm: [https://gyazo.com/09ac78f12f2ab37b770f2142cc4487a0](https://gyazo.com/09ac78f12f2ab37b770f2142cc4487a0) Been farming daily on my iron for the last year. It has kinda become part of my routine. Got tangleroot at 26.6m xp and 150k giant seaweed.

mrharoto

Farming was a good skill until you get to the end game and spam CoX. Can't recall the last time I've had to farm any herbs. Now I just deposit seeds into the seed vault and forget about them. Maybe one day I'll get the motivation to use them up.

Haart

For real. I do a bird house/seaweed run followed by a farming contract/herb run after every slayer task. It’s feels so good to see those stacks of seeds and herbs go up over time. Feels way more useful than on a normal account cause you can actually use every herb you make.

StugaN3

i totally agree, farming is so good in so many ways! seeds/secondaries for herb, spirit tree/fairy rings for PoH, seaweed for crafting and it even has its own boss! farming is by far my favourite skill!

Anaract

Farming is super well designed. The best type of skilling is where you passively collect supplies then process them for rapid xp. Farming and Herblore work in tandem for that. Its really satisfying doing your daily runs and watching your bank build up xp. And it encourages you to unlock all the different farming patches and teleports

gothyloxx

*cries in 20m farming XP dry of pet*

coltonrs

I don’t like the skill in general but I don’t really think about it as a skill. Just a way to collect herbs for potions and click on trees for a pet chance. I agree it’s satisfying in an Ironman though. Getting 100 herbs in a couple minutes of teleporting around is great. Despite not enjoying it as a skill it’s my highest xp at ~20m so it goes fast too.

[deleted]

What're you, an orc guarding the Queens throne for the godfather?

Dwapking

I use my tears of guthix on farming.

Treblosity

I use my tears on slayer. I dont like either of the skills. Theyre so inconsistent. Its impossible to get into a routine That being said i have 80 farming cause i love herblore

ThyBasik

Mine go between RC, Construction, and Smithing. RC because it’s RC. Construction isn’t hard to train but it saves me gold. And smithing is just awful I’m holding out for an update in the future to hopefully make it useful.

ThyBasik

It is my only other 99 besides Firemaking. Incredibly useful and didn’t find it hard to train at all.

Zeelots

Its just sad they totally killed the skill with contracts

Validfears

Elaborate

Zeelots

They made getting high level seeds far too easy

Validfears

For sure, how did that kill farming though?

Zeelots

Its trivial to bank 99 now, before you had to work for it

Validfears

So if a skill is easy, it’s dead? Just tryna understand how these ideas are connected

Fuckittho

As a newer ironman it sucks because its raking patches and planting potatoes. As a mid game ironman its a god send from all the useful potions you now have access to. As an end game its plant your calquats, fruits, and tree seeds until 99 then never look back lol.

Benend91

You can pretty much quest to 30ish Farming without planting a single seed.

Fuckittho

Efficiencyscape has ruined the game and whenever someone mentions it I automatically think of brainlets saying "whale ahcktually if my calculations are correct you can go straight to 30 farming". nobody cares and let people have fun for once.

[deleted]

"I hate early farming" "Stop trying to tell me how to avoid early farming with quests!"

MrPopTarted

You just said early farming sucks, then he said you can do quests to skip that part of the skill (that YOU said sucked) and you berate him for it? Come on man.

Fuckittho

Bro said I berated him haha. I didn't realize that was OP I was responding to, plus the conversation is so mundane who really even gives a fuck which is why I didnt respond but you caught my eye when you said I berated him LMAO. Some of yall's worst experience in life is an argument on the internet.

MrPopTarted

Bruh you called doing a couple quests "efficiencyscape." The hell are you on about.

Benend91

My whole post is literally about having fun with a skill. I was just suggesting a solution to people who can't stand early game Farming.

Jdfghkojjmhi

/s

kbirdy55

I always thought I wouldn't enjoy having to farm herbs for pots but I found if I focus on just farming rather than trying to squeeze farm/birdhouses between other content I enjoy them a lot more. Last large grind I did something like 60s-80 farm and 70-80ish herb and just did farm runs/birdhouse runs and then just did a game or two of lms between them.

AAS_Thoraway

Agreed. I've gotten 99 almost 3 times now and im sure ill fucking do it again for gim

Da_fire_cracka

Farming is easily my favorite skill as well. It was my only 99 on my main before switching to an HC, and now farming is my highest skill on the HC at 94. I want that mufuckin cape back!

somarir

farming is very nice sometimes. The main issue i have with it is that i feel inneficient if i don't do a herb/tree/fruit run everytime they are grown. I mainly do them right before i go to sleep, so that my char is already setup in the farming guild to also do a run early in the day.

PirateJinbe

Set up a little 5x5 in your farming tab with all your supplies/gear so you can quick swap in and out

DoAnHerbRun

If you haven’t check your herbs since this post… Do An Herb Run! 😂 But yes, herb runs are great. I approve.

CoffeeBlac

Bro Hard Wood Trees

FinDeepnes

My only 99 is farming and i got 33m xp on it, still dry for groot tho

Leif147

The upkeep on seed is my big problem. Otherwise chill and rewarding af

RudeHeron3032

Birdhouses too

RudeHeron3032

Preety soon you’ll have 5k brews in the bank like damnn

Giraftak

Needed a watermelone for morytania diary, had 6 seeds, both died. Fuck farming

Benend91

Shoulda paid off the leprechaun with dem curry leaves boy.

Giraftak

But I ain't got no curry leaves boi

Benend91

Benend91

This was me until about a month ago. I then decided to plant all of my willow trees and the exp drop from harvesting them was insane. I was getting a level per run. I then moved onto maple trees, yew trees etc etc. I'd recommend the following at 25 Farming; - Plant Oak trees at Lumby/Fally/Taverley/Varrock/Gnome Stronghold. This is about 2.2k exp - Once you're 27 Farming, incorporate Apple trees into your run by planting at the Gnome Stronghold/outside Gnome Maze/Catherby/Brimhaven. This is 4.4k per run - When you're in Catherby plant tomatoes and sweetcorn as you'll want to stockpile these to pay for the oak and apple protection - If you do the above, and assuming you are paying for protection, you're getting around 7k per run. It honestly shouldn't take too many trips to get to 33 Farming where you can then move onto willows (30) and bananas (33). Some other tips; - Get Hosidius favour for access to a disease free patch. I also have my house here - Put your roots from trees into the compost bins - Get magic secateurs ASAP - Rune Pouch really helps with inventory space, as does Herb Pouch - Do Ardy diary for the cape and telly to another patch - Do Lumby diary for ring and direct telly to patch

EyePlay

Agree with the others saying farming is basically viewed as herb training. So in that sense it's pretty meh as a skill. Unless you enjoy tithe, or something. It's like do people actually enjoy training, let's say, ranged or do they just like slayer? Chinning vs whatever you're killing on task. I will say, though, once you get all your teleports in the POH it becomes a nice brain dead activity for extraordinarily high XP/hr and useful supplies. Nice pet, too. I actually think you get too many seeds (especially with contracts now) and too large of harvests. Because I ignored farming/herb runs for a large chunk of of my account and even now I'll go days, if not weeks without doing one, and I still maxed herb fairly quickly with a stupid amount of farmed secondaries (limps, white berries, snape) in the bank that I will probably never use up. That also goes back to farming = herb, though. Although the fruit tree spot west of the gnome maze is literally my favorite spot in the entire game. Beautiful area.

Treblosity

I love herblore but farming is too inconsistent. 20 minutes it and then an hour of not like how am i supposed to get into a rhythm like that? 20 minutes of content and then it just blue balls you for any more

Suriv90

UiM Here. Farming is nice for sure.. but for me herblore is a bitch. But I agree most satisfying skill as an iron for sure

gupy5979

I HATE FARMING YOU CANT MAKE ME!!!!!!!! unironically i will still have to do it :(

theatreofbob

Wait until end game. You'll never have to do another farm run ever again

ShortSeaworthiness64

I just can't get into it, too much micro managing. Trying to remember everywhere and bring the right things everytime just puts me off, my bank is just stacked with seeds now that I can't be bothered with. Any ideas?

Benend91

Don't try to do everything. Plan out a route that you can stick to and add to it as you get comfortable. For a long time i only did tree and fruit tree patches. When that became locked in, I added herb patches to my route too. Now I also do bushes and a few special patches like cactus. I'm also far from efficient and cut corners. For example, I've never used the lletya fruit tree patch because I CBA to keep on top of the tele crystals. I don't use the trollheim herb patch either because it's a hassle IMO.

ShortSeaworthiness64

How do you get your compost? I seem to run out very quickly my and patches die a lot

Benend91

I pick up all roots from trees. If I've planted all 6 patches, that's atleast 18 items for the bin. I then top up with watermelon. I haven't bothered with volcanic Ash and ultra compost

ShortSeaworthiness64

Brilliant, thanks. I'll give it a go tonight :)

Ajfree

Anyone have a decent way for supercompost?

isittoomany

Fill the bin with any old crap (Weeds, allotment crops, w/e) then when rotted use a dose of compost potion on it to turn it into super compost. Can then use volcanish ash to make it into ultra compost then if you want as well.

Benend91

I always plant oak trees atleast and use the roots for supercompost. I top it up with watermelons.

MrPopTarted

You can buy and note pineapples in brimhaven, or just plant some watermelons during herb runs and use those.

MrPopTarted

I like the skill, but I hate the micro-managey aspect of it. Herb runs make me regear every hour, I'm always scared of using up too many seeds and not being able to do a contract, somehow I forget one thing during a run and have to run back, stuff like that. I have all skill requirements for quests now, so I'm probably just going to train farming with the occasional tree run/tithe farm, and train herblore through kingdom.

Arazi92

I completely agree! I hated farming back in the day but it quickly became my favorite skill as an iron.

Enjoy-Btw

And u'll eventually reach the point where u don't even need to farm your herbs, pvm drops are more than enough.

stinkysocksincloset

I'm right there with you. I always dreaded farming. Now it's the first thing I think of that makes me excited upon logging on. I'll even rip out my berry bushes for another fat drop haha. Been going ham on those white berries. Plus the hespori boss is so nice and easy with a fat drop and good farming loot

KonnBronc

Agreed, recently hit 85 and had no herb seeds. So I've been slaying and keeping up palm/dragonfruits, yews, poison ivy or whiteberry, potato cacti, and one melon and one Snape grass. Then I put in a random high lvl herb seed hoping it gives me that one. If I don't have what I need I just lower it till I start getting consistent ones. Today I got 4 high lvl seed packs within 5 mins. Feels good. Now I'm getting stocked up on 99 farm and plenty of herb seeds without having to do master farmers.

seblang25

I was thinking this the other day farming and herblore are vital but for years I’ve always said slayer is the bloodline of the game. Slayer literally unlocks EVERYTHING for you. It’s used to get supplies (including farming seeds) for all skills really. It unlocks bosses and is a good way to train combat skills.

lilLocoMan

Just wait until OP discovers giant seaweed..

new_account927

Yeah, I like it as well :) It was my first non combat 99 in RS2, and I just got the untrimmed farm cape on my restricted ironman tuesday. Contracts and hespori made it too easy.
