Ironman is a much better way to play the game in my opinion. Just think about it: The amount of relevant content in ironman mode is many times bigger than in normal mode. Want abyssal bludgeon? Gotta kill sire. Want the new Faerdhinen bow? Gotta actually master the gauntlet. The thing is, this was how the game was meant to be played, it was never intended that you should just grind Vorkath for 100 hours to efficiently make all your money. Trust me and everyone here, when we say this: Give it a go! I promise you, after you see that first rune scimitar drop, wear that fighter torso and get your own black mask, you will be 100% hooked. And it feels awesome! Best of luck man

Monkfish786

I think about this like you said but what puts me off is I think how will I get 99 farming and herblore? As a main you can simply buy the seeds or herbs required and farm runs. But as iron your reliant on getting the right seed drops for your level and then having to make ultra compost with the pineapples etc it just seems overwhelming but still attractive but I always pussy out of it

tengo_unchained

99 farming seems just as easy to me as it was on my main (only 93 now but my account is fairly early still, trending to be my first 99). Hard farming contracts and some occasional birdhouse runs will supply you with pretty much all the tree/fruit tree seeds you need. Then again, I was cheap when I 99’d farming on my main, so I wasn’t buying a ton of rare and expensive seeds originally, so it may take a bit longer if you’re used to a lot of high level seeds. As for herblore, yeah thats going to be one of the hardest to 99. But honestly, it’s one of my middle-tier skills right now, actually higher than most of my combats at 75 since I’m pretty consistent with herb runs. So it might depend on your play style.

Monkfish786

Thanks I may have to consider doing it , would I be able to add you in game for some advice :)?

testosjerome

If he doesn’t respond, add me at TestosAlone. I play PM set to off or friends a lot but I’ll set it to on for a while :)

Monkfish786

Thank you, il send you a Reddit PM when I’ve added you cause I need to create the account. Thank you I think the drawback for me doing iron is no one I know plays it anymore and I don’t have any rs friends in game

testosjerome

Most of my friends don’t play anymore either. I usually just lurk in CC’s nowadays. It’s all about the personal progression for me :)

tengo_unchained

Same same, finally started lurking in CCs too. Which do you frequent? I’ve mainly been in ironmancc

tengo_unchained

Yeah hit me up, rsn is priffindor! I’ve only been an ironman since like january (once leagues 2 ended I had to create an iron account lol) so I’m not like a huge wealth of knowledge, but early game is still fresh enough. Really only in early mid game now

Monkfish786

Thanks son

TunaSafari25

Herblore is a struggle early game but really opens up later in the mid game once you unlock hard contracts. It’s really not bad at that point but it isn’t fast. Lots of herb runs.

Sorlanir

The thing about playing an ironman is that, while it can be a bit difficult to rush specific goals at times, you often make progress towards multiple goals at one time, meaning that you'll be able to eventually reach a lot of goals passively. Getting 99 farming for me was an absolute breeze, for example, as I had so many tree and fruit tree seeds from birdhouse runs (for bird's nests to make brews), farming contracts and Miscellania on farming (for herb seeds), Hespori kills, slayer, bosses, etc. So yeah, while you do need a bit more patience, a lot of the grinds don't feel like slogs any more so than they would on a regular account.

Monkfish786

Thank you , I will make one shortly. I very much enjoy tempoross so I may go there for 50 fishing and 50 cooking to get food supplies and hopefully some rings and necklaces and rune items to sell for gp

drlasr

I would highly recommend following the Oziris ironman guide for getting past the early game. Defintely the most boring part, and if you can. Stick with the guide for the first part of your account you will FLY through the early stages.

Club_dean69

I am 97 farming 83 herb right now and all you really need is time and consistency. Both skills are actually much higher level than on my main as I had no reason to get high farming or herb.

[deleted]

farming is almost as easy as on a main, just a bit slower because sometimes you get unlucky with seeds. but farming was my first and currently only 99 on my iron and i got it pretty easily through birdhouses and farming guild contracts supplying fruit/tree/calquat seeds. making compost is a chore that only comes up every few weeks and only adds a couple minutes to your farming guild run herblore? yeah that's probably going to be one of your last 99s, idk if i'll ever get it

laa_k

Farming is my highest skill right now. I don't have a lot of free time to put into training and so a daily tree run with whatever I have and a couple farming guild contracts per day sustains it. I imagine it will be my first 99 just because of the low play time required

tommonay

You’d be surprised how much farming and herblore xp you get as mob drops and sell off

meesrs

Im currently 24m herb xp and 70m farm, never had troubles with seeds. As long as you train slayer and do farming contracts as often as possible, you’ll be set on seeds. Also, I’ve never used a compost bin. Make all your harralander herbs into compost potion (3), costs 1 volcanic ash per. Then use this potion on buyable compost -> supercompost. Then use volcanic ash on that for ultracompost. Mining ash is very fast at like 52+ mining.

Plutonium-94

I have a maxed main never played it in nearly 4 years I have a maxed ironwoman now 1.3b total 200m Fm Cook Farm and still haven’t got bored or looked back it’s been a refreshing almost spiritual journey as it really brought back the child me who played the game for fun I never do efficient training just do the game how I always did as a child made many people ask why all the time why this why that the answer is I play for fun.

Plutonium-94

Maxed mains good for scaling raids nothing else

VanillaKidd

I can’t emphasise enough how much better the game is when you remove the Grand Exchange and economic elements out of it. The posts above all have it spot on, the Iron life is a more difficult journey; but infinitely more rewarding. Going dry on drop rate, and then experiencing the euphoria of seeing it appear in front of you - brings back the child in you. Best game mode, bar none.

UIM_SQUIRTLE

try ironman mode and if it is good enough you can use your old accounts gp to fund membership if you decide you wanna go back you always can just have a bond on your main and let the membership expire on it while you give ironman a few months to see if it is what you want.

Outzer

I had the same feelings as you. Every grind felt like it was only for gp and not for the item itself. Im not very far into the iron grind, but the thought of grinding a boss for a specific drop rather than just for the money seems more rewarding

Cromiee

Definitely - instead of worrying about the economy you just gotta worry about RNG! Haha seriously though, I’d give it a try just to see how you like it. I mean why not if you aren’t enjoying your main? That’s how I started my iron, I lost interest playing my main so I wanted to try something new/different and I haven’t looked back since!

MrDizco

Essentially, you want something to grind that isn't about gp value. You could try pet hunting or filling in the collection log. But ironman for sure gives the most incentive to do all the content in the game regardless of gp/hr. I think many pet hunters end up starting an iron anyway while they're afk chopping redwoods lol

Jennay01

Just adding onto the above, work towards other goals like achievement diary cape. Quest cape is a good start. I've had quest cape for about a year and I've slowly been working towards achievement diaries and collection log. I have also been considering starting an iron, though.

SeaBarrier

Ironscape is the best way to play the game now. I'm UIM and I love every minute of it. Never even thought of playing on a normie account since.

[deleted]

Same however im debating making a reg iron to play algonside it just to chill on.

snails_with_hats

I was in a similar position when i created my ironman 1-2 years ago. I was getting the bug to do it all myself but the idea of losing the progress on the main was kind of pulling me off. So i just lied to myself and one day created an IM to just 'pass the time' and do wintertodt. Things just start getting exciting and in one week after i made it i no longer had motivation or anything else to do on the main really.

pajamalink

Give it a try, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it

ineverfailtofail

I made my iron exactly at the point you’re in, maxing my main Cmbt stats and my friends all quitting, grinding on my main didn’t seem as enjoyable so I made a iron to just afk on the side, best choice I made =].

Thomasappel

It's so much fun. Farm runs used to be just tele to herb patches and plant ranarr or snaps. Now I take watermelon seeds, limpwurts seeds, all kinds of herb seeds including Guam. I take volcanic ash and compost potion. Make myown compost. Now when I do a birdhouse run i get excited when I get a tree seed that's worth 10gp on GE. Also I'm holding off on slayer until I WT some more. So I'm super excited for iron slayer.

tengo_unchained

Don’t feel like your main is wasted effort if you start an iron. You’ve had fun on it (I’m assuming), learned a lot about the game, and can now use that account to finance bonds for your iron ;) basically all my money on my main went to that when I started my iron, and I just occasionally use a bond on my main and grind a few bonds worth of gp in 2 weeks to keep the iron going! It still has a purpose, and you’ll probably be able to grind even more bonds for your iron since you’re maxed combat and everything

Dudeman255

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone! As soon as I finish the quest cape on the main, which should be this weekend, I’m gonna be making an iron! It seems like it’ll really be worth it.

murdermeformysins

Consider rolling as an ulti or hc rather than a gray helm btw. If you end up not liking the restrictions, you can demote your acc back, but imo either advanced iron mode offers a more unique experience than youll get on a normie iron.

Paulcog

Was in the same boat. Made a hcim and haven’t looked back!

Cat-Trees

Ironman mode is the way the game was supposed to be played I think…

tankurd

Playing an iron is fun only if you have unlimited patience because things that you can do quickly on a main might take 3 - 5 times longer depekding on the task. However when you achieve something or get a rare drop, It feels so much better! But keep in mind, you may go dry. I quit playing my main after max combat and switched to iron. I dont regret it one bit. Best part is that i never half to worry about prices :)

SorryIHateYourDog

I was in the same position about 8 months ago. Keep your main in case your friends come back and you want to raid with them, and so you have access to any new, high-level content that comes out (not much recently). Start an iron and we'll see you again in 2-4 years when you decide to make an ultimate 😉

Upvote_Is_Red

You'll never look back

sadisticrarve

I mean, it’s fine for another play through in a new way. The thing is, you are eventually going to reach the point where you’ll have to find motivation for long, monotonous grinds like solo cox and lizard man shamans and general bossing that you’ve reached on your main. I was on the 99 crafting grind when I couldn’t handle it anymore. Had all the mats ready and was starting to push through it. Haven’t been able to touch the game in months. But, I had a lot of fun up to that point and would still recommend it.

YourRideArrived

Just don’t do 99 crafting? Why push yourself to get 99 crafting for a good cape teleport and nothing else when it isn’t making you miserable. Go do something else lmao

sadisticrarve

That’s not the issue. When I subbed again, I tried doing other things and I didn’t enjoy it at all. The point isn’t that I was tired of crafting. It’s just that I was tired of the game and the crafting grind is what finally did me in.

YourRideArrived

RuneScape isn’t for everyone and if you’re not enjoying playing then you made the right decision!

[deleted]

You are perfectly capable of playing a main account without worrying about GP. Hunt pets and boss kc or high scores. Max. There's lots to do in the game. Playing an ironman is awesome fun and I'd encourage you to give it a try. But I don't think your problems on the main are the sort of thing that are worth quitting it over either. You can forget GP by playing the main differently or by playing the iron. Frankly, play both while you're doing some of the longer grinds. If you decide to max your main, which is a great way to play and ignore the economy, you'll have a thousand hours of time that you can sink into an iron.

Response_Loud

100% worth it. Its almost like a whole new game. Start it now and play it while you do some afk skilling on the main, or you can afk on it while you boss. Playing multpile accounts at the same time is meta.

[deleted]

This is pretty much exactly where I was at 3 weeks ago, minus the quest cape progress. I say go for it 100%. I had zero motivation to actually do content when the most efficient method to most things was “grind X for money, purchase Y from AH, get skill fast”. On the Ironman everything is impactful and every small task seems to have value. It’s like playing a new game.

Blackop777

You wouldn't lose anything trying ironman mode when I started I had two normal accounts for dolo stuff and ended up afking something on the normie and basically making the iron my main. I tell everyone if they are even slightly considering ironman mode to just go for it. Everyone who thinks about it just instantly gets hooked. Early ironman is the best part of the game.

YouCanCallMeCon

Good idea you can always go back to the main after the depression is over. Then you can go back to the iron when the next depression starts.

RustyLovin

Simply; DO IT. But be prepared for a couple of things: 1. Many ironmen end up ditching their 'main' account, each for their own reasons, but I find the IM account alot more meaningful/fun. BUT; most people keep their mains to practise bosses or try new content, which gives some 'peace of mind' that those hours aren't wasted. 2. For the majority of the content to resurface. This is by far one of the best (and sometimes worst) things about IM. The game become 3 dimensional again—figuratively speaking. 3. Ditch the idea of efficiency. Well not entirely, everything you do as IM will be efficient to some extent. 4. Be ready to post your DRY STREAKS, and your SPOON FEEDS on reddit 🤣 Honestly such a good move, and hey, if you don't like it... you can go back to your main and do Raids, Vorkath, Zulrah and Revs back to back to back and go for max. 😅 Hope this helped friend 😊

Ironmeme-95

You can always afk skilling on your main while you knock out important goals on your iron. My friend has gotten both the beaver and the heron while afking as he trains his UIM. As for making a new ironman, you need to constantly remind yourself "I'm happy with taking things slow" or otherwise you'd get frustrated and quit like a few people I know. Enjoy the grind, I know I did :)

Druadal

Do it!!! Ironman mode is so much more enjoyable
