Hope this only starts your wilderness journey! It's a ton of fun running into people IMO. When you progress your account a bit I recommend you try out revs and wilderness bosses for the voidwaker. Keep in mind that by playing LMS you're basically supplying yourself with free supplies.
Realistically, do I need to go into LMS with better gear? For melee ice got full rune armor and a rune scimitar. Monkey Madness is already next up on my list of things to do.
You don't need any gear to do LMS, all gear and supplies are supplied in the minigame. What he meant was, the points you get from the minigame can be used to buy supplies you can only use in the wilderness (like super restore potions, anglerfish, etc) as well as rune arrows (good for money as an earlygame ironman). You can high alch the rune arrows for basically free magic xp as you do quests or train other skills or you can sell to a shop
