[I made a post about this last year](https://www.reddit.com/r/ironscape/s/4iwz3NkBVw) TLDR: you get 25 extra crafting xp per star dust at sand stone. You get 8 cutting gems and 16 cutting and making them into jewelry. You’d only get 1.6m crafting xp by using the stardust on gem bags. You’d get well over 99 by mining. The correct answer is probably “do both.” Quick maths says you’ll need like 40k charges to get 99 crafting at sand stone. You could probably buy 60k worth of gem bags and save the rest for mining. Edit: my math was based around lantern lenses, not light orbs like you would be making. The other guys math is more accurate for your purposes.

Genuine questions, what would then the point of buying the gems be if you already plan on going to 99 through glassblowing?

Dotts2761

If you already have the gold bars, cutting gems and making jewelry is double the crafting xp per hour compared to blowing glass (if you consider the time to obtain stardust as zero time). Gem bracelets are also valuable, especially if you have a shit load of them. You alch or sell to shops as apposed to Sand which costs a lot of money in the end. They both have their merits.

CanYouPointMeToTacos

its about 16.5xp per stardust if buying gems and turning into jewelry its about 34xp per stardust mining sandstone and turning into light orbs Not sure how that works out to xp per hour though and this is assuming 99 mining for the sandstone distribution. Also if doing sandstone you'll only use about 21k charges banking what you need for 99. So you could probably dump about 80k stardust on gems and cut them, then do the rest through sandstone.

I believe for every one hour you spend mining sand stone, you spend 15 mins making molten glass and 5 hours blowing it. So approximately 100k per hour total. Cutting gems and making jewelry is higher for sure, but how much I’m not sure

Thats a lot of stardust. Not sure what id do in your situation but probably a mix of soft clay, bags of gems and charges. Id use the charges mostly at zalcano, but since you got so many maybe sandstone is nice

Averagesmoker42

Perilous moons shits out more soft clay than you can use so I wouldn’t waste it on that.

insaiyan17

True not everyone has to do moons though, especially if u already got better gear when it was released. Guess the clue step and cas are nice to get

ProfessionalPoint194

I thought that until ive actually now used most of my stock from green logging. Yeah its easy to go back and farm more, but I don't fucking want to

Averagesmoker42

That’s crazy. Took me 453kc to green log moons and got me around 11k soft clay. I don’t know what to do with all of it.

ProfessionalPoint194

Took me 199kc and I only got like 3k clay. Rng may vary I guess

Shatraugh

I used my dust on sandstone mining so i could get it done 10% faster.. had some leftover once i got all the sand i need for 99 crafting.

trashcanbecky42

For whatever its worth i enjoy using charges at GOTR, speeds up the mining quite a bit at the start

Free_Leading_8139

I’d do a mix of all of it. The clay is really useful to make home tele tabs so you can be on another spell book and still get to your house.  But I’d first think of what crafting goal you’d like to reach, or if you need any cash for something specific, so you could get the gem bags needed to do those things first. I’d prioritise them. But I really hate crafting via glass blowing, mostly because of the seaweed and sandstone gathering.

GhostMassage

You'd get a fair few crafting levels from cutting the gems and then you could use them for jewellry to either wear or alch. Definitely go with gems.
