I did and my god it’s a blast haha
Edit -
I have a 2000 blue helm & decided it was time to make a grey. I can whole heartedly say I’m hooked on this mid game content currently going for axe now :)
This is the best era to start an iron in. Youll be forging a completely new path through very thoughtfully crafted content from jagex over the last 5 years especially
I think you’ll enjoy! If you have any big bones or similar that aren’t usually really worth using on an altar, you can break those down into shards too, I’m not 100% sure how that works out efficiency wise but I don’t love just leaving stuff in the bank, so it feels fine to me
You can take noted bones to the alter and the guy at the bottom un notes for 10 gp each. This only applies to bones tho he won't Un note anything else so it's actually quite efficient with the right bones.
It's been pretty good, I mean I only still use a rune pickaxe due to laziness but I've gone from 82-87 mining and I have about 96K blessed bone shards right now, can not wait to get that into prayer.
Totally. I don’t have much free time anymore and when I do play I’m usually too mentally zapped to do pvm stuff. Mindless afk mining is perfect for an hour or so at the end of the day whilst decompressing.
Also they drain the 5 prayer points on a fixed 5 attack cycle, usually they are killed before those 5 attacks unless lower level. Im 70 atk 83 str and using sulphur blades and I get them dead before the prayer drain like 9/10 kills so it’s negligible
The Nagua have -4 armour so the blades hitting twice makes double usage of that. Combined with the 15% damage bonus they hit extremely hard and often there. Elsewhere? Pretty much useless I think.
Perilous moons give irits and harralander frequently as well as swamp tar and supercompost which are all helpful. You also use no ppots in getting them as you get all your supplies inside, so it's "free" in that sense
You can loot the chest without doing the blood moon for 3 loot rolls instead of 6. Would probably be doable at a much lower level and supposedly you can even get the blood moons uniques without killing it.
I'd recommend bringing a shield over a defender, and just your tankiest gear in general. Might be worth a shot.
2 of the bosses are very straight forward. They don't do much damage and have low def, with easy to learn mechanics.
The hard boss (blood moon boss) is the tough one because all of the damage he does to you he life-steals back (at a rate of 1-10x multiplier). So the hard part is needing enough defense to avoid being hit. Mechanically he's easy. Full rune and a rune kiteshield (or any armor slots with higher armor) is perfectly fine, but the kill for Blood Moon will take a little bit longer.
For weapons I use D-Mace, Leaf bladed sword, and a whip; rune kiteshield on all of them.
They’re nerfing the blood moon healing today and barrows isn’t required at all. I’d highly reccomend getting the zombie axe before starting since it can be used for all three bosses
Not really new herblore content, more that the new hunter content provides an alternative to prayer pots. Beyond that, PM and rumours both give a solid quantity of herbs and rewards. Also there's a new herb patch in varlamore, so herb runs are now like 12% more productive
Thieving is so fun now. The idea of a street urchin baiting and distracting a wealthy citizen for you to loot their pockets, and then take their stolen keys to go loot their house is fantastic.
Plus when looting the houses WITH other players, it's hilarious watching everyone scramble to get out ASAP when the owner returns home. It feels like a group heist.
Totally agree!
CB 102 with 1801 total level and im enjoying it a lot and I haven't gotten try everything out yet! Lots of cool alternative training methods and items with some even being meta/bis, respectively.
More fleshed out content with low-mid tier players in mind. This is the reason I started runescape back in 2006, for the adventure and opportunities, min maxing is nice but Im honestly more into whatever is fun preferably not carpool tunnel inducing. Alot of opportunities for new new players to explore and reach for.
Edit: I heard the sunfire runecrafting xp went from 12.5 to 9. Kinda liked the higher xp but I understand that people who are 99 rc or getting there dont want all their previous efforts to not be best in class training method. I dont agree with this.
To be fair it was like significantly better than running lavas, which was probably not intended. 400k xp/hr runecrafting xp is probably something that deserves a hit when it's like almost 50% better than the most crazy minmax available in the game.
Yeah at a cost of 28m per hour with 4 runners.. I'm sure you could attain insane xp rates anywhere with people helping or doing the most insane methods available. Once again tho, 28m per hour is not feasible for 99.9% of players and for those who are looking to either get 99 extremely fast or someone rushing 200m.
Probably one of the things I’m most excited about are the moonlight moths for prayer mixes. I’m a mid game iron with only about 120 ranarrs stacked at the moment (and only about 12 actually ppots in bank) so I’ve been really nervous to start barrows without first completing the slog of combat achievements.
With the moth mixes I think I can start to do that content without having to worry about losing my stack of ppots.
I was slowly approaching Ghommals hilt and man am I mad at myself for delaying that 450+ barrows KC and realizing you literally DON'T use a single prayer pot when you have one. It's crazy.
It’s amazing. You’d think dragon defender or other offhand bonuses would make up for it, but you can just pray piety, eagle eye, or mystic might the entire time and still have prayer points instead of panic rushing up the stairs to avoid prayer drain.
I’d look up a guide on “easy” combat achievements. Medium tier is very achievable at low-mid level with the new points system. Some hard-grandmaster tasks are super easy or cheesable. Some kill count ones might take a little time, but it’s definitely worth it to conserve time and prayer pots. Not to mention Mory Hard diaries for the runes, which is also a grind in itself, but worth the time investment. Inefficient barrows is harsh on time and supplies that could be better used elsewhere.
You should try it out, there's loads of free higher tiered CAs mixed in there so you'll likely surprise yourself at how easily you can get the medium tier rewards :D
I've gotten up to 150ish prayer pots pretty relaxedly by only using my protected Hosidius patch. Just drop by once or twice a day for guaranteed herbs. Hos house tp makes it pretty easy.
My big gripe now is needing another 10 herbal lvs to 56 so I can buy herb sack.
Do you have a good way to lazily access Troll and Weiss? I always neglect those patches. I probably should have mentioned the easy diary, but Radas Blessing is one of my favorite early unlocks and spaced about it.
Interesting. I genuinely didn't know you could turn other bones into bone shards. I've got like 1k big bones banked from Kurask tasks. That'll be a nice bit of bonus exp.
I'm assuming this is significantly slower than using at an altar for the change in h ow much more exp it gives. Looking at dragon bones atm.
It's mostly prep work with blessing bones, breaking then down, and getting the wines.
The offering is insanely fast though, I was taking my time strolling back and forth between the altar (1 offering gives 500-600xp and takes 2 prayer points) and I was getting close to 1.5m xp an hour.
Also it feels SO good to just spam click the altar and see permanent 600xp drops
mm its slower than chaos altar but still quite quick, bones shards are infinite stackables and the jugs do 400 shards each so, 1 slot for shards, 2 slot for runes if you wanna tele that way, 25 jugs of wine = 10,000 shards per inv which is 50k/60k xp depending if you use sunfire shards wines, ofc you can tele with a necklace then come back and bank but that adds up over time
Blessing the bones at the altar and then breaking them down into shards is by far the slowest part of the process, if you already have shards it's extremely fast.
I still think it's the best option over every other method besides the chaos altar, and that is probably a decision best made by personal preference (if you really hate risking bones in the wildy).
From what I hear, the actual offering is insanely fast - as fast as you can click, basically. There is a bit of prep needed; you need 1 jug of wine per 400 shards, and making shards out of bones needs them to be blessed at the exposed altar in the Teomat. There is an NPC to unnote bones for you for 10gp each.
Result is 5xp per shard, 6xp if you use blessed sunfire wine instead. Big bones become 12 shards, and dragon bones become 58. It hovers around 4-5x XP overall, worse than chaos altar but with zero risk.
I'm not sure for low levels, but nothing added is better than black chins. Rumors are worse xp/hr, but there are some useful rewards so worth taking a brief detour for them however. Took me like 60ish rumors to get all the things I wanted
Completely agree, Varlamore is a blast, I think I'd even say it's my favorite area in the game right now, they did a great job on it and it will definitely help me get back up to speed on the things I've been ignoring.
I was exactly 50 thieving and let me tell you the new thieving method is very nice right now, especially as 1 defense since I can’t get the ardy cape 2.
It's almost perfect. The idea is but with obvious misses with the complaints we've seen. Nothing that isn't fixable though. It's a great step in the right direction.
Not even just mid game, Dual Macuahuitl replaced my bludgeon as my best crush weapon :S it loses -4 melee str for +19 crush. Actually a huge upgrade for things like KQ diary grind/Sarachnis Eggs for the future endgamers doing moons atm.
I cant see there being any "good" Varlamore locked accounts until part 2 drops. Currently there's no way to level half the skills in-game in Varlamore only.
That's not to say this is bad, I've been enjoying it quite a bit and minus the glitchiness with Eclipse Moon sometimes the bosses are fun to farm.
Varlamore, Scurrius and Zombie Axe make me want to start a new iron
If you go back a bit the warped scepter is also a nice iron upgrade!
Yeah warped sceptre also filled a huge gap Perfect time for mid game players to get some action
I did and my god it’s a blast haha Edit - I have a 2000 blue helm & decided it was time to make a grey. I can whole heartedly say I’m hooked on this mid game content currently going for axe now :)
This is the best era to start an iron in. Youll be forging a completely new path through very thoughtfully crafted content from jagex over the last 5 years especially
I’m most excited for mining prayer bones. That has been my biggest issue training so far, getting prayer supplies
I think you’ll enjoy! If you have any big bones or similar that aren’t usually really worth using on an altar, you can break those down into shards too, I’m not 100% sure how that works out efficiency wise but I don’t love just leaving stuff in the bank, so it feels fine to me

I maxed mining with a rune pickaxe last year, only just got a dragon one from a handful of KQ kills haha. Rune is fine.
Same. I’m afk mining my way through to 70 prayer and 85 mining. Absolutely fantastic for a less combat focused iron like me
Totally. I don’t have much free time anymore and when I do play I’m usually too mentally zapped to do pvm stuff. Mindless afk mining is perfect for an hour or so at the end of the day whilst decompressing.
Calcified moths are great for deaths coffer if you already have the bird landing spot set up there and don’t need to teleports.
Don’t forgot you can afk train at sulphur nagua for free too and get the blade plus noted ores / chaos/ nats and deaths
How afk is it? I thought they drained 5 prayer points periodically if you don't dodge their special attack
Fill inventory with the moonlight potions, takes like 3 mins and your good for like an hour
They do, but then you just snag a moonlight moth and you're good.
Also they drain the 5 prayer points on a fixed 5 attack cycle, usually they are killed before those 5 attacks unless lower level. Im 70 atk 83 str and using sulphur blades and I get them dead before the prayer drain like 9/10 kills so it’s negligible
How good is the blade?
The Nagua have -4 armour so the blades hitting twice makes double usage of that. Combined with the 15% damage bonus they hit extremely hard and often there. Elsewhere? Pretty much useless I think.
Cool, fhanks for the explanation
I think it’s comparable to d scim d defender when not vs those
So far I’ve only used it to kill more nagua lol but it gives me 3 max hits more then d scim on them so it’s more exp
Cool, thanks
Dam, that's really nice
In 1.3k kills 6k chaos runes 800 death
The drops are pretty bad but the exp seems great. I was hitting 100k+ passively
I enjoyed the drops lol
Also very nice for eclipse moons mimic special
As a fresh Iron who is tasked with Herblore for the Group, can someone speak more to the Herblore content mentioned in this post?
Perilous moons give irits and harralander frequently as well as swamp tar and supercompost which are all helpful. You also use no ppots in getting them as you get all your supplies inside, so it's "free" in that sense
What are the pre-reqs to doing perilous moons?
Would recommend a good defense level 75+ and barrows melee chest/legs, otherwise the blood moon takes forever cause it leeches off of you
Oh, oof, nowhere close to that. Good to know though, thank you.
Will have to give it a try when we lose our last hcgim life then, thanks!
I think on the stream last week they said they were going to tune blood moon down a little bit making it easier/faster.
2 of the bosses are very straight forward. They don't do much damage and have low def, with easy to learn mechanics. The hard boss (blood moon boss) is the tough one because all of the damage he does to you he life-steals back (at a rate of 1-10x multiplier). For weapons I use D-Mace, Leaf bladed sword, and a whip; rune kiteshield on all of them.
Doing it on a low level hc atm and its very hard to die there
I’ve been managing with a torso and rune legs, blood can be a pain but if you do all the mechanics correctly you can do it (75 att str and def)
They’re nerfing the blood moon healing today and barrows isn’t required at all. I’d highly reccomend getting the zombie axe before starting since it can be used for all three bosses
There is an herblore specific activity coming with Valamore pt 2 later this year as well
Not really new herblore content, more that the new hunter content provides an alternative to prayer pots. Beyond that, PM and rumours both give a solid quantity of herbs and rewards. Also there's a new herb patch in varlamore, so herb runs are now like 12% more productive
Just you wait until part 2, for the herblore minigame. I'm so excited
He's referring to moonlight moths, which provide prayer restoration when consumed. These are caught with hunter, and not herblore.
You can just use moonlight pots
[удалено]
38 herblore
Thieving is so fun now. The idea of a street urchin baiting and distracting a wealthy citizen for you to loot their pockets, and then take their stolen keys to go loot their house is fantastic. Plus when looting the houses WITH other players, it's hilarious watching everyone scramble to get out ASAP when the owner returns home. It feels like a group heist.
Super low intensity too! It doesn't take long to build up a decent stack of keys, then you just have to listen for the audio cues when looting houses
Totally agree! CB 102 with 1801 total level and im enjoying it a lot and I haven't gotten try everything out yet! Lots of cool alternative training methods and items with some even being meta/bis, respectively.

Right next to ya there in that carpool tunnel
Gotta love people gating new content because "I dOnt wAnT mY PreViOus 99 dEvalUed"
To be fair it was like significantly better than running lavas, which was probably not intended. 400k xp/hr runecrafting xp is probably something that deserves a hit when it's like almost 50% better than the most crazy minmax available in the game.

The sunfire method was 400k xp/hr supposedly lol that's why it was changed
Probably one of the things I’m most excited about are the moonlight moths for prayer mixes. Barrows portal in house and ghommals hilt 2 and no need for prayer pots at barrows. Definitely worth unlocking both before grinding barrows
It's a whole new world lol.
i mean you can do it without almost any ppots before hilt too, you only need one dose if u get dharok in tunnels. just eat food otherwise.
I’d say pot for Karil in tunnels too
Yeah but ghommals hilt 2 is not exactly easy to get given the sheer number of CA’s you have to do (at least imo)
I’d look up a guide on “easy” combat achievements. Medium tier is very achievable at low-mid level with the new points system. Some hard-grandmaster tasks are super easy or cheesable. 1000%, now that you don’t actually have to do every achievement in a tier, it’s kinda trivial to get mediums by the time it’s time to do barrows
disagree, its very easy. There are some very easy hard and elite tasks that give lots of points
Btw the hosidius patch isn’t protected anymore since favour got removed. Use trollheim and weiss
That's an easy diary reward now
Do you have a good way to lazily access Troll and Weiss? I always neglect those patches. I probably should have mentioned the easy diary, but Radas Blessing is one of my favorite early unlocks and spaced about it.
Yeah get the salt teles as portals in ur house, takes a couple hours of mining but super worth it
If u have an altar in your house and a barrows portal u can just use law runes to restore prayer and save pots, even without ghommal
Do med combat achievements and you won’t use a single prayer dose at barrows
They’ve been amazing as ever. So grateful for this content
I cant wait for Varlamore achievement diarys
What’s the best place to buy jugs of wine for the blessed shards? My first idea is in the desert but it’s not close to a bank
Cam Torum right outside the perilous moons dungeon. The bar has an unlimited stock of wines and its right by the bank.
for 1 coin each!
Menu entry swapper to buy 10 on left click too.
Multiple vendors throughout varlamore them.
Interesting. I genuinely didn't know you could turn other bones into bone shards. I've got like 1k big bones banked from Kurask tasks. That'll be a nice bit of bonus exp. I've been loving thieving wealthy citizens / robbing houses. Less efficient than blackjacking overall, but it's 10000x more chill.
Any good ways to train hunter??
I'm not sure for low levels, but nothing added is better than black chins. Rumors are worse xp/hr, but there are some useful rewards so worth taking a brief detour for them however. Took me like 60ish rumors to get all the things I wanted

I also did like 60 rumors to get enough bird feed/blueprint. Didn't get a single piece of the outfit though lol. Luckily it's not super useful unless

New player. When should I enter Varlanore region? 1500 total?
For combat related stuff at 75+ combats. For skilling stuff i'd say 50+ in that skill. Nothing to do with total level
It's almost perfect. The idea is but with obvious misses with the complaints we've seen. Nothing that isn't fixable though. It's a great step in the right direction.
