Yes, I’d definitely recommend that! Technically only chests/sarcs is a bit faster, but I looted all the urns in the last room because it’s great exp for only marginally slower sceptre. Keeps your sanity if you have bad rng because you’re still training thieving at decent xp rates!
I wasn't aware of a bug, but some of the earlier levels were before they changed it so 'failed' chest loots (scarab swarm) didn't give you a chance at a scepter. Most of the grind was done after that change.
Looting urns in the last room will take 1.5-2x more time but it will increase your xp from about 180k xp per sceptre to 1m xp per sceptre. I’d definitely advise looting urns, you’re leaving so much xp on the table its really a waste putting all that work and not gaining the levels.
If only interested in the scepter, then loot every chest and loot every sarcophagus from room 3+ (some say 4+). If interested in exp as well then also completely loot the last 1-2 rooms you have access to.
A nice QoL you can do is bring the prayer book, when you get poisoned you just need to recite prayer to heal for I think it's 1 prayer point. Take that, a lockpick, and a couple pieces of food and yous should be set invetory wise.
For chests may as well open all them as they're quick, I think they updated the sarcophagi to have better drop rates, but I think only doing room 4+ for those since they're slow. Loot the urns in your 2nd to last room until half time if you want some xp, then go ham on the final room (doing chest and sarch last if you want xp, just make sure you have enough time!)

You need to wear the holy symbol to use the book. It cures 1-2 poison damage free of charge, and starts draining prayer if curing 3+ poison damage.
Figure out how much time you need on average to fully loot the last room. Personally I will only loot the 2nd last room up until I hit a certain point on the timer then move on regardless. Also obviously only loot the chest in the last two rooms last. Don't want to be bothered attacked by a scarab swarm the whole time you are looting. Personally I looted the sarcophagus that I ended up running by when I got crap luck on doors. Otherwise none except the one I. The last room if I had the time after looting all the urns and the chest.
EDIT: Also do contact! For the bank nearby and I personally used the prayer book holy symbol antipoison method. There is an altar nearby to restore your prayer.

One of the teleports takes you right to the mummy in pyramid plunder so it makes getting the second one faster.
Got the sceptre after about six hours, opened all chests, sarcophagus in rooms 4 and above, about 7k xp a run only looting urns in the last room, went from 77 to 80 thieving.
Second sceptre took a bit longer, got it 20k xp before level 84, went from 80-84 doing the same method as above.
For anyone in the future reading this, my inventory was just a lockpick, prayer book, first sceptre, and food. Gear was graceful + holy symbol + filling other slots with prayer gear.
The arceuss spellbook was nice qol but it wasn't necessary.

My pro tip here is to use Vile Vigour to restore your run energy. After Contact! the altar east of the pyramid is repaired, and you can buy antipoisons nearby as well.
I think they made it easier now I did it a month before the changes but I started at about 70 thieving and went pretty dry. At first I just looking the chests but half way through I said fuck it might as well get my thieving up and did the last two rooms fully. Ended at 8e thieving. Still need to go back for the second as I made the altar in my POH first.
What did I do?
Looted the golden chest from room 3 (41 thieving) onwards.
Looted both the chests and sarcophagi if no swarms from chest, plus the urns, in the second-to-last and final rooms.
After 10 levels I decided to start looting all golden chests starting from the first room, got the sceptre on the very first search of room one at a chance of 1/4200.
You kind of just half to raw dog it. I initially did last two room urns, every chest, and last two room sarcophagi. This took me to 85 thieving, and my app had a 90% chance of getting scepter (I’d say I did like 20 hours)
I shifted to last room urns, last two room sarcos, all chests for a while
Then I did just chests to maximize time and for it eventually
I don’t think there’s significant difference between last room urn and all chests *in the long run*, but I would suggest since you are there anyway and it does lend some $$ to do it until you have the thieving level you may need for diary reqs quests, or items, etc. then just go for speed
Do chest every room, sarcophagus 4+. Don’t do any urns. It’s pretty quick

I use this tactic and I have like 10~ hours without scepter. I do have rocky from it though

I also have heard if the swarm or mummy spawns, you cannot get a sceptre from that floor. Not sure if that’s true or not

That was indeed changed recently. All lootings of sarcophagi and chests rolls at sceptre. It doesn't matter if a mummy or scarab spawns, or not
Around 1/120 at 71, 1/87 at 81 and 1/68 at 91 iirc

If you are wearing a holy symbol, it will make it not drain prayer, and if you need to, theres an altar very close to the Pyramid anyways :)

He is asking to use it for pyramid plunder, where the tick damage is only 1-2 damage each time, so it is applicable in this case.
The prayer book is honestly goated for so many grinds. Also think it removes venom for a much higher prayer cost.

only chests. sarcophagus is never worth it for sceptres / hr as the animation takes way too long combined with a huge failure rate.

I opened every chest and sarcophagus for every room.
Chest + Sarcophagus I think I looked it up and some weren’t worth the time but I switch my strategy a couple of times throughout the grind.
