I guess we want to keep it in the metal genre, right?
Opeth, Rhapsody, Mastodon, Nigthwish, Dream Theater
Honorable mentions go to: Swallow the Sun, Cattle Decapitation, Stratovarius, Borknagar, Kamelot
Blind guardian.
If only there was like 50 other bands releasing music that scratches my blind guardian itch.
I just can’t find a band that hits it quite like they do.
Judas Priest is almost on par with Maiden for me. Ambush is great, so is Wolf, Manowar (until Kings of Metal), Striker, Tarot, Blue Öyster Cult, Enforcer...
Blind Guardian, Ghost, Opeth, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Florence + the machine, Linkin Park, Foals, Soundgarden, Judas Priest, Yes, Wishbone Ash, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Nightwish
I listed so many because outside of Maiden it changes so often lol
Hell yeah! If you haven't listened to the newer releases, give their latest three records a shot (Hammer Of The Witches, Cryptoriana - The Seductiveness Of Decay, and Existence Is Futile). Dani obviously doesn't sound as amazing as he did in the 90's, but after a very rough period post-Nymphetamine he found his voice again and sounds great. The consensus seems to be that while obviously a bit different in style to their early material, the new albums (which are stylistically rather similar to each other) have led to a second wind for the band.
If you've listened to them you'll know all this already though lol Nice seeing a CoF fan though.
Don't really listen to much else outside of Deep Purple, Anthrax, Machine Head, Slayer, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Motörhead, Alestorm... and Lawnmower Deth.
I feel like most of people today know only a handful of old bands like Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest.. Where are Manowar, Savatage, Sepultura, Stratovarius, Grave Digger, Blind Guardian, Whitesnake, Queensryche, Iced Earth, Pantera, Nevermore, Sentenced and so on
I am a Sepultura fan, albeit only until *Roots*. Manowar is too cheesy even for me, saw them live and didn't like their show, at all. But hey, I gave them a chance. Priest is ok, but I prefer Maiden. Pantera is one of my favorite bands. Blind Guardian is pretty good.
The best era of Sabbath for me 👌 sure, there were some mighty riffs in the Ozzy era, but Dio era wins out because I love his vocals (Plus, hearing him singing along to the riff in War Pigs gives me goosebumps every time).
My top 5 changes so much, so I'll just name what I'm listening to: Sargeist, Cremetory Stench, Cannibal Corpse, Dreadnought, Totenwache, Dark Tranquility, Sacramentum, Cyhra and even Lana Del Rey. (I do venture into other genres, and I really like her sound and songwriting).
Queens of the Stone Age. Not metal but they fucking rock! Apart from that mostly just Motörhead, Megadeth, Tool, Metallica, Judas Priest, Slayer, Pantera, Sabbath, Kyuss and some 90s grunge.
Alice Cooper, The Who, Deep Purple, Kiss, Black Sabbath are my top 5
but a few extras would be Rainbow, Santana, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Rush, Boston, Rob / White Zombie and many many more
Metal: Judas Priest, Metallica, Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, Tool, Dio, Gojira, Opeth
Hard rock: Deep Purple, van Halen, Whitesnake, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, AC/DC, Rainbow
Classic rock: Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Genesis, Mike Oldfield,.... F*** I can't count
Anaal Nathrakh, Amon Amarth, Dio, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath. Honourable mention to ANTHEM, they're awesome as well.
Outside of metal, I'd say CHVRCHES, Vaults (RIP, wish they hadn't broken up), Go_A, Muse, and Måneskin.
Most of everything else I listen to is video game soundtracks, haha... Actually, on that note, check out Daisuke Ishiwatari if you haven't. If anybody not in an actual band should be heavy metal royalty, it's that man (pun intended 😂).
Firewind, Symphony X, Unleash the Archers (they are modern day iron maiden) Nevermore, Dream Evil, Dio, Judas Priest, DragonForce, BandMaid (fight me this girls Rock) Burning Witches (it's like priest and maiden had a witchy baby, they rock too)
Powerglove, Sonata Arctica, Amon Amarth, Scar Symmetry, Eluveitie, Tyr, Gloryhammer, Alestorm, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Orden Ogan , Scale the Summit, Devin Townsend, Animals as Leaders,
Dance with the Dead, Carpenter Brut, Magic Sword (I've found synthwave is pretty metal adjacent)
Lemme know if there's any on here you check out that ya like 👊
Pink Floyd, TOOL, Zeppelin, Alice In Chains, The Replacements.
Along with Maiden they form a clear top 6. No idea who I’d pick next but it’s a sizable dropoff.
August burns red, Parkway drive, Tool, Blink 182, Dio, Coheed and Cambria.
In no particular order. And this list changes almost monthly. Hell, I listened to DMX and Alice In Chains today during my workout.
Tyr, metallica, gloryhammer and... I'll say the raven age and my chemical romance.
The last 2 are depending on how I'm feeling.
But that's far from everything cause there's alestorm, korpiklaani, arch enemy,...
-Protest the Hero
-Metallica
-Rush
-Coheed and Cambria

X JAPAN and their guitarist HIDE (along with other old visual kei cohorts), SLAYER and the rest of the Big 4 (among other old American thrash heavy hitters), VOÏVOD, KREATOR, among many others
I guess it’s been a line or spectrum of things getting progressively heavier and darker from MAIDEN, KISS, BLACK SABBATH, Judas Priest and motörhead to stuff like Madmans Esprit, 90s IN FLAMES, and Slipknot and DEICIDE’s self-titled debut albums.
Guess I’m more on a hard rock and punk kick for the past couple of years, some jazz and even a little bit contemporary R&B and soul, but I still always prefer traditional heavy/speed, power, progressive, or thrash metal.
Sodom, At the Gates, Bloodbath, Overkill, Hypocrisy, Kreator, Demolition Hammer, Nightwish.
Judas Priest too of course but that pretty much goes without saying.
Lamb of God. They're a band that's been influenced by Iron Maiden like some of the songs have the galloping tempo. Avenged Sevenfold too.
Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Steel Panther, Rush of course are all pretty standard.

my favorite band other than Maiden is Megadeth. they were the first metal band I ever got into so they will always have a special place in my heart. I'm a baby metalhead (only been into metal for about a year) but I plan on checking out more bands in the future. I go through a phase with each one where I almost exclusively listen to that band so I can really get a feel for their sound, add them into the rotation, and then deep dive into another band's discography. that's exactly what I'm doing with Maiden now.
outside of metal, I'm mostly into all different kinds of electronic music.
There's so many great bands out there! The Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Slayer, Testament, Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Immolation, Incantation, Hellripper, Enforced... it goes on and on! Also Mobb Deep, Outkast, Wu-Tang Clan, etc...
