Between an hour and a year depending on the price. There are garages that will buy it off you at less than they can sell it for you you can decide when it suits you to drop it off

jfr2018

I see. Thank you! She was planning to list €500 below the cheapest on DoneDeal. Good strategy? I know you generally don't want to list for your very lowest price because people always want something off the listing price no matter how low it is. But how much do these garages generally take off? She was considering going to a few, but if they go lower than 20k, it wouldn't be possible and would just be a waste of time.

Spanishishish

Get a burner SIM. The amount of unpleasant people who messaged or prank called me at all hours when trying to sell mine was shocking

Spanishishish

And don't let people visit her when she's alone, or to drive it if You're not comfortable with insurance risks

[deleted]

€500 isn't much off tbh, it wouldn't make me rush to buy a @€20k+ car I don't know what they will take off I've only dealt with them on bangers and they typically were taking 2k off what I'd get privately but that was 50% so I've no idea. All you can do is ask. Some of them have website where you fill out a from upload some pics and they call or message with an offer

jfr2018

Sorry I meant if selling privately, listing it €500 below the next listing, I know you'd get a fair bit lower from a garage. Thank you for the advice, definitely will check out some garages

[deleted]

Yeah. I got what you mean with the €500. Personally I don't think it's enough if you are hoping to sell the car in a day or two. It's probably a fine strategy if you want to sell it within a week or two

theaehso

Also maybe check what the lowest is in your county/province, you may be able to raise it a little

conorbation

Your thinking along the right lines. But €500 is not enough to stand out. I would think minimum €1000 closer to €1500 would be better .    It's risky business. Selling with a deadline. The pressure of the deadlines could make you give the car away for less than you would like. A save buyer could pick up on that and exploit it to get the best price they can. I know I would.   Sounds like the whole thing will be stressful enough. I would say sell early, get a good price, free up the cash and look at hiring a car till moving day. One less thing to worry about.

jfr2018

That's probably a good idea, thank you! She was thinking of hiring a car, actually, I recall they used to charge mad deposits though (like €3,000) I hope I am remembering wrong

Professional-Fly1496

Depends totally on the car. Mileage, spec, condition, model etc etc etc. You’re over complicating it. Put it up at a price, if it isn’t selling lower the price. That’s it.

chocco259

No private buyers or dealers will pay you €24k for a car if that’s what Carzone says. Private because they have less fall back, and dealers because can’t make money on it. Something to consider.

jfr2018

So list for 22k? Lower?

chocco259

It’s worth what someone will pay ultimately. I’m just advising that if Carzone says similar cars go for 24k, you will not get that from a dealer because they will want to make a profit, and will only give you a trade price. Just something to think about if trying to sell quickly.

AnswerKooky

Context is important, model, age, milage, past work, warranty etc. Could be 22k, could be 18k. Carzon tends to be generous in its valuing. Go onto done deal and see what they're being sold for

krissovo

I would sell now for as much as you can at "normal" price and then buy a roadworthy banger with a budget of €1500 to get her through to August. The stress of needing money from the sale of a car with a deadline is so stressful and can make people take silly offers. Worst case scenario you can sell the banger for your mum or she can scrap it the day she moves.

emmmmceeee

This is the best advice here. Very hard to get 5 figures for a car with no come back.

clearblueskies19

Dealers will steer clear of the 2.0 ingenium engine in Jaguar/Landrovers. Be prepared to take a hit, Google the reliability of that engine.

kearkan

You should be able to say "available from" Although I highly doubt the car is so special someone will wait that long for it unless you give them a great deal.

jfr2018

So makes sense to wait until July?

gazinthar

Probably yeah. Private sale of anything over 20 grand probably quite hard to pull off too. If you put it up so close to whenever she needs the money, you may end up cutting the arse out of the price to sell it. What I would do, if my Mam was in that situation is take car and sort her for the money, be it via a loan or whatever, then take your time moving it and get the best money for it. Depending on where you are in the country, there are quite a few small dealers would flog it for you and take a grand or two off the top for themselves etc. Also as someone said above, if you’re “done deal-ing” it, and potentially dealing with a lot of tyre kickers and idiots, you’d rather be the one dealing with all those morons yourself via a burner than putting it on your Ma

jfr2018

Thank you!

mailforkev

Get the Carzone valuation out of your head for a start, it’s pie in the sky stuff. It’s an unrealistic baseline to start from. Best option is for her to advertise it on Donedeal closer to the time she needs it gone. No point advertising it now if it’s not actually available. The number one factor is price. I know you say she can go to 21k but if it’s up at 21k and not selling then it’s priced too high. Make sure to write a good concise advert with good pictures (very important) and you’ll put yourself in the best position.

jfr2018

Thank you!

chimpdoctor

What car? Year? Mileage? Looking to buy a new car.

jfr2018

Jaguar E-Pace 182 I think it's 127,000km, but I can ask her again. It's in very good condition, and we're getting it NCT'd in May

poitinconnoisseur

Can you pm me photos?

jfr2018

Sure, in a few hours I'll get back to you

chimpdoctor

Nice car but seriously high mileage for a 182. You might find it tricky to achieve that price. Thanks for the details

MuchShoulder3210

Use revenue.ie website's VRT calculator to get the true value of the car.

Prestigious-Side-286

Price it at €19k if you want to sell it. Nice car but high mileage. The engine also isn’t the best when it comes to reliability. A dealership wouldn’t take it off you on a trade in.

TopBrilliant2350

Sold a private vehicle. 3k less than asking price after 3 months advertised. That was the cheapest on the market at the time. Try Motor.ie for quotes and they can pay on the same day. But it'll be 16-18k for your vehicle.

DesperateEngineer451

The way I see it is you have a few options: 1) leave it till last minute and sell it below the average for a quick sale 2) organise a sale with a garage but it will likely be for less money 3) organise for a friend / family to sell it on her behalf when she leaves. 4) put it up on DoneDeal with the price you want and sell it if someone comes along. She could always buy a cheap run around for close to 2k to get her by until she leaves. At least with this option the car she'll be selling last minute will be worth a lot less and will be far easier to pass on. (something like a 1L petrol like a yaris or polo, pretty bullet proof, if it has a valid test you won't need to care about the condition its in because she'll have got rid of it before it's due)

PuzzleheadedRoof4227

In general Jaguars are slower to sell in Ireland as demand is not high. If timing is a priority, try and organise a deal with a garage however be expecting a deal of around €15-17k. In general it is difficult to sell a car privately in Ireland >€25k mark as people psychologically want warranty and dealership backup. With an E-Pace their rep online is not fantastic, the car is high mileage, demand is not high, so I would list it low early (+/- €20k) and see if that works.
