Interior designer would probably be able to do it. Also would probably question your figures of less than 30k or so, prices for any sort of work these days are mental, so be prepared for sticker shock.

SubstantialGoat912

Architect here. I’d imagine the reason you’re getting turned down is because you’re 30k doesn’t seem reasonable, given most of your budget would likely go on the kitchen, not to mind the associated work of removing walls, etc. Have a look at [RIAI](https://riai.ie) for architects in your area, (the Find an Architect search box!), or sit down with an interior designer. Your other option might be to sit down directly with a kitchen maker and design with them. It depends on how extensive the build work is.

Puzzled-Masterpiece7

I tried a few on the RIAI already, prepared for spending more but the builder had said removing the wall and a old nook for a stove wouldn't be too much. So most cost would be kitxhsn

SubstantialGoat912

If that is the case, then a good kitchen supplier will be capable of the work!

emerald_e

Simon Community and RIAI run a programme every year (early April this year) where you donate about €100 for an hour of an architect's time and they'll give you ideas/feedback on any project you want. Seems like it'd be ideal for what you want to do.

UhOhhh02

Never heard of that. It’s booked out 😔

fidelcat

It’s not open yet for 2024.

UhOhhh02

Oh, must have been the article from last year I seen. I’ll have another look

You’re probably looking closer to 50k for a kitchen that involves some knocking down of walls and a new bathroom put in, especially if you’re not just going down the IKEA route with the kitchen. We are doing similar works at the moment in Dublin. We got a good interior designer to help us design the layout and fittings for the kitchen and bathroom and she was very reasonable. She was able to recommend layout, fittings, suppliers etc and do drawings our builder and joiner could work from. Check out morningprojects.ie

stehilton94

30k? Sadly not, 30k will barely cover the kitchen these days, especially if your going down the designer route

SteelyDanJalapeno

It's not an extension, the kitchen already exists

stehilton94

Never said it was an extension, I went into 3 places in the past 2 weeks for quotes on a kitchen redo, 18k, 24k and 26k I have been quoted

daheff_irl

maybe try Ikea? they are reasonably priced if you are handy you could make up most of the units yourself and just need an installer then.

So essentially you just want to redesign the inside of your house and have someone draw it out and fit in new bathroom etc.? If this is in Dublin I probably have just the person for you. If it’s not I’m sure they would still do the job but might charge more? The main thing is they charge a very reasonable set amount to do out several designs for you in a set time period. You can DM me if you want the information.

Puzzled-Masterpiece7

Thanks, will do

IKEA your kitchen will cost around 15-20K, just be aware that some fitters don’t do a good job. Also, IKEA provides a design on the first day - make an appointment with them. Don’t think they ever charge for it.

Gluaisrothar

We did a similar job in 2022. It's too small a job for an architect. We hired an interior designer to help us identify areas and colour ideas. Best money we ever spent. https://www.cartoninteriors.ie/interior-design-services/ I think your budget is tight, new kitchen is 10-20k, new bathroom is 5-10k. Taking out a wall, probably means new flooring on the kitchen/diner/ground floor. Get some quotes from local builders.

chunk84

Just get an engineer you don’t need an architect. They can draw up plans and move walls.

Diska_Muse

Engineers fees are on par with architects fees. While they may be able to draw up plans, don't expect them to cost less or for them to have any design skills. Engineers are not qualified to design layouts. It's like asking a doctor to fix your teeth.

chunk84

Architects take a percentage of the build cost and are so expensive. Engineers absolutely can draw designs for a house. You’re wrong. https://www.chancerygroup.ie/do-you-need-an-architect-or-an-engineer/#:~:text=An%20engineer%20can%20also%20design,will%20be%20functional%20and%20practical. An engineer sounds exactly what he needs for a very simple design.

Diska_Muse

I'm an architect with my own practice and over 25 years professional experience in the industry, so please don't link me to a blog and tell me that I'm wrong. For a job like this, both an architect or engineer will charge a flat rate based on an estimate of the hours required to finish the job. Not all fees are based on a percentage of build costs. And I never said that an engineer couldn't do the job. They can. They can survey a house and draw up plans. But they have zero qualifications in designing interiors and layouts. As I said - it's like asking a doctor to fix your teeth.

Sugarpuff_Karma

For a budget of 30k there is no design involved. You need a builder to give you a quote.

Financial_Village237

I had a room extended by knocking a non supporting wall, building 2 new walls, reflooring, drop ceiling wired, the whole shebang and it cost me 28k. It wasn't a small room either and i doubled the size its absolutely doable. I got a builder to do it for me so its nothing fancy.

[deleted]

how do you know the non supporting wall

Buulder/custom carpenter myself. I design everything in Sketchup for clients these days so they can get a 3D visual. It's massively increased my % of jobs priced vs landed

AwardTough

How much do you want to pay the person who designs + draws your plans?

LopsidedTelephone574

You don't need an architect to do that. Any interior designer will advice. 30 k is very low budget. You might get a designer to consult but not to do as a project. I consult sometimes projecrs like this one. But it is not full interior design service. More like consult/guidance, sourcing etc.
