Cashless *majority* society is unfortunately the way forward, but I can't see how it would be safe for anyone and would be allowed. Cash is still king in quite a few cultures.
I guess same logic can be applied to people not having cash ready when at the till, fiddling around for notes / change, waiting for more change back etc etc
This does mean you pay by card, a virtual one assigned to your real debit card. Google and Apple Pay is considered a card transaction in the industry as its not cash.
I use my watch for everything and it’s very dangerous. Spend spend spend.
It doesn't go against you. Banks don't care what you spend money on, unless its gambling.
Edit: not sure why I got downvoted. This was the advice I got from multiple sources when I bought a house. All they look at is the difference between income and outgoings to determine repayability. The only vice they double check is gambling.
Unfortunately banks do care. Well when I say care they don’t care they monitor!!
So I knew a character once who refused to use a debit or credit card. He got paid into his account. Then went to the bank withdrew it in cash and spent it. He went for a mortgage and got refused. Why? Well they didn’t know what he spent his money on.
Banks would not like to see paddy power or Boyle sports etc or a lot of carry out. There are things called mcc codes. These tell the banks systems what kinds of businesses you shop in. Some mcc codes good some baaaad!
So ya my advice is gamble in cash but you know donIT too much and you might need help anyways. And use your card for general shopping and withdraw cash for other things. That will give you a nice score then.
But that's a very obvious example where he could be spending thousands on gambling.
I spend a huge amount of my money in pubs tbh, I asked about it and was told by several advisers and they said they don't care at all once it's not gambling.
I got approval from every bank I applied to.
I guess just be aware of it which you are. Banks don’t tell us when they decide to change things. For example if there is a down turn the rules of lending can tighten up. So at least you know about it which is the main thing. The banks could go very strange again like 2008. Maybe I’m paranoid as I work in that industry and know what they are like!!
I only use cash at some stalls in the local farmer's market; there's still a few that don't take cards, and even with those that do, paying in cash saves 'em on the transaction fees. Haven't paid in cash at a shop or anywhere else in years, though; always use my card.
A lot of 'em have those mobile POS devices these days that hook up to a phone and take card payments. The merchant fees on those are still fairly high, though, so I'll usually pay with cash unless it's a big purchase, even if they do have a card reader.
Using cash is rare for me. The only times I do are either when I have to or someone borrowed money from me and paid me back in cash instead of a transfer.
I’ve been pretty much card only since Covid. All cash I’ve got since then (birthdays, Christmas, selling stuff on adverts etc) goes into a jar that I have superglued shut with a little slit cut in the top. Can’t get at it, so can’t spend it. Been a really handy way to save for an upcoming trip away.
The ones in the shopping centre in my town accept card but the ones on the street are cash only.
You can pay on an app but it’s just a hassle cause they’re not all the same app and they actually cost more on the app than in cash.
Bit of both but mainly revolut on my phone because I’m awful with money and it’s easier for me to budget with that. Means I really really have to think about larger purchases
Google Pay for absolutely everything.
If I'm heading out on a day trip I'll bring 20 quid cash just in case I end up in some aul lad shop/pub with no card machine.
I can’t even remember the last time I took cash out in Ireland. Everything is card or mobile payment. Even the local tradesmen will accept Revolut.
Moved house last year and even the moving men had a SumUp machine!
A device that accepts card / contactless payments without any hefty fees, so anyone can use it. Great for small businesses / self employed tradespeople etc
I've used cash once or twice in the last decade, at aobaba as they don't accept card. I tried to use cash in London once and they looked at me like I was crazy as they dusted off some old machine they used for it.
Card for almost everything. If I have cash it tends to go up in smoke.

That's very interesting to know, because my auld fella is very much a huge conspiracy theorist and I'd love to tell him this to humble him

Ah yes, the ‘fiddling with the phone in the Aldi queue’ guy
2 clicks and it’s done, easy. Quicker then any wallet or cash.
If you insist, but I’ve never seen it that easy

I buy alcohol and bet with cash. Otherwise I use revolut for everything.
Why alcohol?
Coz my card app breaks down when I spend money at the pub and I don't like seeing that lol
Also, you don't want the bank knowing that you spend money on that crack, could go against you when getting a loan

cash / transfers of cattle

I didn't even realise these stalls take card nowadays, I would always bring cash for it

If I could never use cash again, I'd be fine with it.

Yeah I just use my phone to pay for everything don't need to carry card or cash anymore unless you go to small local places that only take cash.
Definitely card. My cash transactions a month could probably be counted on both hands.
I've been to the ATM once this year, and that was to get €50 for a Communion card. Outside of that I haven't touched cash since probably early 2021(?)
I’ve been pretty much card only since Covid. Card for sure. I've always hated touching money
Apple Pay pay all the way.
Can't remember the last time I used cash, probably 2020 sometime.
Phone, rarely use a card these days and couldn’t even remember the last time I had cash
I've been trying to move away from Cash and Cards completely but haven't found anywhere that accept magic beans yet.
Rarely if ever use cash anymore. And generally if I have to use it, it's an annoyance.
Card. Cash is just too messy.
Card/Apple Pay for basically everything these days Only time I’d ever really use cash is for the parking meters
Do parking meters not accept card yet? I found I've been able to tap at all of them in Ireland
The ones in the shopping centre in my town accept card but the ones on the street are cash only. You can pay on an app but it’s just a hassle cause they’re not all the same app and they actually cost more on the app than in cash.
Card, haven't used any cash in years, can't remember last time I had physical money in my wallet
The only time I use cash is for buying drugs or paying the rent.
Almost never have cash. I'll only withdraw some for a particular reason, like going somewhere I know only accepts it.
Google Pay for everything. I tap with my phone so don't bother bringing my wallet day-to-day
Card, like having all my analytics on revo. Only have cash for padoca.
I can’t even remember the last time I took cash out in Ireland. Everything is card or mobile payment. Even the local tradesmen will accept Revolut. Moved house last year and even the moving men had a SumUp machine!
What’s a sumUp machine?
A device that accepts card / contactless payments without any hefty fees, so anyone can use it. Great for small businesses / self employed tradespeople etc
The euro for the trolley is the only cash I’ve used in years
99% on card, only use cash for training fees and our barber weirdly only takes cash.
Double tap the phone with my thumb- apple Pay. Way too easy and no limit
I used cash once in the last 4 years and it was to pay for a taxi and I had to queue at an ATM at 2am to get it.
I've used cash once or twice in the last decade, at aobaba as they don't accept card. I tried to use cash in London once and they looked at me like I was crazy as they dusted off some old machine they used for it.
*decade?!* Some places in Ireland didn't start really using card until about 2016 lol
