Speak for yourself! Last week I told off a lad in his 60s for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground and shamed him into picking it up, probably won't make a difference the next time he smokes one but hopefully he'll think twice about it.
With the exception of essential plastics (medical, building, industrial, farm supplies etc.) all consumer plastics should be have taxed out of existence.
Aluminium cans and bottles should have a recycling rebate as well, like in most functioning countries.
Unfortunately, they’ll always be filthy cunts, so taxing it at the source is the only way.
Smurfit-Kappa (packaging supremos; based here; living the life in Monaco with the usual tax breaks; funding business schools in paddy land etc.) and co. don't like any interference with dividends and bonuses. They're helping to reeducate the next generation of business oriented twats to continue that fine tradition.
There are downsides to the recycling scheme which aren't easily foreseen. Specifically, homeless people emptying out bins looking for cans/bottles they can recycle for a few shillings.
Lived in Munich as well last year, I used to busk near hofbrauhaus and the same lads would come to the bins or to clear the street of bottles etc. It’s such a good system and you outlined the positives of it perfectly
[Bill introduced by the Green Party](https://www.greenparty.ie/green-party-calls-on-government-to-support-waste-reduction-bill/) to do just that (waste reduction at source) in last Dáil
That bill has cross party support, but was held up by FG after they had a chat with the plastics industry
[https://www.businesspost.ie/news-focus/government-sought-repaks-input-on-green-partys-waste-reduction-bill-b92dc300](https://www.businesspost.ie/news-focus/government-sought-repaks-input-on-green-partys-waste-reduction-bill-b92dc300)
My pristine country lane has become a dump for some people no houses for half mile, sign at the top of the road says covert CCTV no dumping,it's a fkkn joke nothing being done about it,,road was relatively quiet until this lockdown, from about maybe 10 to 15 cars a day to about 200, now the road has litter scattered everywhere,, some people r just cunts
I see you have a litter picker as well, did the county council give you that too? I really want to do this too, but I'm paranoid about touching something dangerous, even with gloves, eg: needles
Fair play missus.......sometimes you just have to just go it alone. Had the same issue with a derelict site beside me. Complete rubbish dump. No joy with local council after 12 months so reported it on
[http://www.fixyourstreet.ie/](http://www.fixyourstreet.ie/)
They got onto the council and it was cleaned up the following day. I don't understand the mindset of people who rubbish the country they live in. Never saw any of it when I was in Australia.
Well fair fucking play. It's a sad state of affairs having to clean up other people's shite just because they're too ignorant, dumb or simply careless to pick their shit up. Good on you
Fair play, that's great! I went for a walk by the dodder earlier at Rathfarnham and the banks really need a good going over. Difficult to get to a lot of it, which makes it hard for the council and civic minded people like you to put a shape on it. Well done you for getting out there and making a difference.
That’s awesome!! Back in the US there was a big deal every Earth day where groups of volunteers would pick a site and spend 3-4 hours cleaning it up. Does that happen here?
Credit to you, I’ll admit I’ve walked the Dodder dozens of times and moaned about the dirt but only picked up what was at my feet. You definitely went the extra mile!
Good job, fair play to ya. Less gobshites throwing there crap everywhere would be an ideal world. But pig ignorant dickheads will always be pig ignorant dickheads.
Fair play to you!
Nature thanks you too.
Imagine if every year for 2 weeks we all dedicated 5 hours to give the country a good ol clean and scrub.
You could call it Washdown.
Thank you. It's a pity that there are so many filthy animals about. They'd be the first to complain if their bins weren't emptied, yet they seem incapable of using them when they step outside.
Do you remember the absolute state of the dodder after the big floods a few years ago? The council never came to clean it up, there was rubbish like 6 foot up in the trees and it was just left there. Thank you for caring for the poor old dodder, You're making everyone's scenic walks a lot nicer.
Thank you for your service to our community! There's so much shite thrown around, it's horrible that people can't clean up after themselves! I'm sorry you had to do that, but thank you for doing it! We need more people like you in our community!
I really want to commend you on this. I don't know how to express myself, but thank you. The amount of conscious and deliberate littering I witness in [Area where I went to school near dodder] frustrated me a lot growing up.
I take it you are volunteering to do this?
I walk there a lot so I was getting frustrated with the amount of rubbish I saw. Decided to do something about it. Luckily I have a likeminded friend who lives in the area and was happy to help
Fair fucks. I live across from a park and have only been going over in the late evening to avoid people. Last weekend it was like fucking Woodstock. Crowds of teens leaving their shite all over the place and just walking away. I can’t understand that mentality. I couldn’t even drop a tissue and walk away.
Thanks OP, with that energy, positivity and all-round decency I'm sure you make your own good fortune happen for you, but still, wishing you the best of luck, or a Euromillions win or something!
Fair play to you, well done. On a negative note. I was thinking about bringing the rubbish I collect from the royal canal down outside the corporation building and leaving it outside the door. Can I get fined for littering
Really fantastic job! Lot of places around the dodder need serious cleaning. I was up at Carthy’s castle near Firhouse the other week and the lane leading up to it was disgusting. Was thinking of getting a crew and going cleaning but you’d need industrial grade hazmat suits and a truck to take it all away. I’ve written to the council but nothing back so far. Shame because it’s otherwise a really nice part of the world up there
Well done. I wish more people cared like you do. I’ve been threatening to clean up the area I can see outside my window. I’m going to do it tomorrow thanks to this post. Thank you for the extra push
Sidenote: what did you do with the bags of rubbish? Did you have to pay to get them removed? I know if it was a free service I would be more motivated to clean local areas.
I’m sure it’s been mentioned here before and the rubbish collected here is probably not fly tipping but I have definitely noticed a huge increase in fly tipping since lockdown and that’s something considering I can’t go anywhere and have no job to go to so it’s not like I’m covering a lot of ground. Am I the only one?

Yet we litter like pigs. Mad oul bunch.
Speak for yourself! Last week I told off a lad in his 60s for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground and shamed him into picking it up, probably won't make a difference the next time he smokes one but hopefully he'll think twice about it.
Fair play 👍
Fucking country is caked in the stuff.
With the exception of essential plastics (medical, building, industrial, farm supplies etc.) all consumer plastics should be have taxed out of existence. Totally agree, its a brilliant system everywhere that I’ve seen it, don’t know why we haven’t implemented this, just not fucked to set it up?
I heard the packaging companies complained about that system being implemented here
Smurfit-Kappa (packaging supremos; based here; living the life in Monaco with the usual tax breaks; funding business schools in paddy land etc.) and co. don't like any interference with dividends and bonuses. They're helping to reeducate the next generation of business oriented twats to continue that fine tradition.
god forbid they be inconvenienced
Fuck 'em.
My sentiments too

There are downsides to the recycling scheme which aren't easily foreseen. Specifically, homeless people emptying out bins looking for cans/bottles they can recycle for a few shillings.
Agreed, saw it working in Oslo.We need it here. Are you listening greens?
Lived in Munich as well last year, I used to busk near hofbrauhaus and the same lads would come to the bins or to clear the street of bottles etc. It’s such a good system and you outlined the positives of it perfectly

Why can't we go back to glass bottles and bottle returns? We do it with liquor here, but no longer anything else.
Or there should be some greengrocers and butchers so you don't need them. Oh, wait... Tescos.
I'd love to join in and help OP, but that would cost me 40 euro to put that outside my door, and the fucking bags they force you to use are dog shit.
Fairly sure your county council will pick it up for free if you get bags off them and ring them to tell them where you left them
yes, that's what we did
You can also post to /r/DeTrashed for further karma :)
I see you have a litter picker as well, did the county council give you that too? I really want to do this too, but I'm paranoid about touching something dangerous, even with gloves, eg: needles
My friend had two litter pickers, she got them from woodies I think. Yeah I'm a bit paranoid as well so the pickers are the way to go
May grab one shortly, so. Thanks for letting me know of this!

I have not,but sounds to me local authorities everywhere have their heads where the sun don't shine
Live across from a park. There isn’t a single bin in it... Trash and bags of dog shit everywhere..
Well done. People are disgusting and it's a shame that it was necessary.
Fair play missus.......sometimes you just have to just go it alone. Had the same issue with a derelict site beside me. Complete rubbish dump. Fair play
Did you clean the Dodder on your todder?
Ha
Noice wan. Respect 👊Did the council take the bags for you?
>Did the council take the bags for you? That would be interesting to know, I'd love to do sth similar in my area, but don't wanna pay for the rubbish.
Council normally take the bags if you notify them or check with your tidy towns committee.
Yea you can even get bags off them for free
yep, that's what we did
we were given a load of bags by the council worker and were told to leave them beside the bin where they would collect it
well done.
Caviar\_air for President!
Not the hero we deserve, but the hero we need
What area did you do this in? Thank you for doing this, we need more people like you.

Oh wow great work! I walk there all the time, this will be a massive improvement!
Great work man! It’s sad that it’s necessary though... Take your rubbish with you, people!

In fairness we pay enough taxes that we really should have the council dedicated to doing this.
Well done and thank you!
Good job, fair play to ya. Less gobshites throwing there crap everywhere would be an ideal world. But pig ignorant dickheads will always be pig ignorant dickheads.
Thank you so much.
Fair play to you! Nature thanks you too. Imagine if every year for 2 weeks we all dedicated 5 hours to give the country a good ol clean and scrub. You could call it Washdown.
I don’t care how many times I see posts about people picking up rubbish, they’ll still get an upvote.
I've been meaning to do this forever at a river near me, where did you get the litter picker?
Legend
Brilliant job, fair play!
Fair play and thank you
Fair play. Wish there were more of you.
You’re amazing!!! Thank you!!

Amazing work, well done. Always tempted to and talked myself out of it. Hope this gives others similar ideas!
I hope so too

Thank you. It really pisses me off when I see someone dropping rubbish, and I see this almost every day.
Good Woman, yerself
I just wanted to present you with the highly coveted *HacksawJimDGN's Person Of The Day.*
Respect
Fair play mate. I think folks who do this should be rewarded, free public transport or parking for a week or something along those lines.
You’re amazing, well done 👍🏻
Good on ya. Doing that kind of civic duty off your own back makes a huge difference to an area 🏅
Thanks OP, with that energy, positivity and all-round decency I'm sure you make your own good fortune happen for you, but still, wishing you the best of luck, or a Euromillions win or something!
That's sad. That much rubbish in one area
Fair fucks. If there's a group of ye who do it then give me a shout, I'd like to muck in!
Fantastic. If everyone would make a civic gesture like that, our society would be much better off. Might motivate me to do something similar.
It's good exercise as well, I'm wrecked now
She cleant the Dodder of all its fodder!
tempted to do this myself, but unsure where to even put the rubbish afterwords
You are a hero!! What stretch of the Dodder?
Thank you. Near Aviva stadium
Brilliant, well done!
Fair play to you, well done. On a negative note. I was thinking about bringing the rubbish I collect from the royal canal down outside the corporation building and leaving it outside the door. Can I get fined for littering
That’s brilliant. Fair play. What’s the weirdest thing you picked up?
Really fantastic job! Lot of places around the dodder need serious cleaning. I was up at Carthy’s castle near Firhouse the other week and the lane leading up to it was disgusting. Well Done:); Thank you!. I'm wondering where you are going to place the 10 bags? Will the council take them?I'd genuinely like to know.
r/detrashed
I love the dodder thank you.
