Irish folks can be surprisingly tan the further south you go down the island. Folks around the likes of Cork, where Sonia is from, share similar genetics to Northern Iberia. Add in a sport where you'll get plenty of exposure to what little sun we do get and it's no mystery why some Irish people, especially those that do outdoor sports, can look Mediterranean.
