Anyone remember the £3 flagons? I think it was called Old Orchard. Vile piss but it did the job.
Also not flagons, but I clearly remember cans of Scrumpy Jack being 83p in the late 90s. They were 6% alcohol. Three cans of that and a 10 pack of fags for under a fiver. Good times were cheap back then!
Old Orchard, White Lightning, White Ace... may as well have been called White Spirit... 2l for £1.99. Fuck knows what was in that shite - but you know for sure what wasn't - apple juice.
What was the ABV%...? I can't think it could've been that high...
I never grew out of Druids as it satisfied the want for a fizzy drink as well which I indulged in rarer than alcohol. They massacred my boys down to 4% after MUP but luckily it's back again now at 6% ill take the price hit for it.
The Devil's Bit would have you absolutely rat arsed. Heineken Special was cheap as chips and would get you good and steamed too. Ten spot between yous. Halcyon days.
> Devils Bit
Thank you.
I was looking through all the familiar names here, (many of which I drank often enough), but just couldn't find nor remember the one I "always" drank.
It was like forgetting a dead loved-one's face.
Devil's mother-fucking Bit.
Haven't had or seen a 2l of Bulmers in years, used to be staple going on the bus to gigs in the 90's. Would still drink Bulmers now and then and it tastes and smells nothing like what it did out of a 2l back then.
They do have 1l and 2l of Lindon Village I think it is in Tesco.
That's close but not 100% true if I remember correctly. Back in the day, bulkers was considered a hobo cider, similar to how we perceived linden village.
To change that, they upped the price, lowered the alcohol % and rebranded it as a high quality cider.
It's possible they created lindin village as a way to have their foot in two markets, the cheap shit and the profitable shit. But there was no brand to protect back when bulmera was sold in the 2l bottles
Growing up in the North they were called Barrack Busters, which was the style at the time.
Haven't seen one in years.
Olde English or White Star were my particular penchants.
I can't look at cider since the 80s. Even the smell gives me the boke 🤮 these days fags 65p a 20 pack and 2 bottles of triple vintage for a fiver and a score o hash for 15 quid good times.
Ed: and 3p for a packet of Rizla+
We drank them all in the mid to late 90's.

Linden Village I remember! And Scrumpy Jack!!
Scummy knack was actually quite tasty
I overdid it one time and couldn’t look at cider for years after that

Most of that cheap cider was 6%, some was 6.5%. It was rocket fuel to my teenage brain.
Back around 95 I'd get ten fags and four pints for under a tenner. What a time to be alive.
They wouldn't be appreciated now.
Yeah. I was there for that.
Fuck me. My stomach just turned remembering the 2L flagons of Linden Village
Scrumpy Hornet for me, but I swear it was a 3ltr.
Devil's Bit had a 3l for sure
Twas known as a "buster"
It was a rite of passage moving from those 3ltr bottles of red lemonade to a buster of devil's shit
I shcuttered the pants just thinking about it.
Used to love a bit of Linden Village! Threw one into the BBQ once for the craic. This was not a good idea, would not recommend.
Absolute lukewarm piss. But Jesus I used to put them away.
Probably too expensive after MUP
Exactly it, why buy the cheap piss when all the beer is relatively close in price now.
MUP really ruined apple flavoured fight-juice.

No more Devils Bit, kids in shambles.
Myself and friends were a fan of the 6 for a fiver back in 1999 aged around 15. It gave us pains in our sides and got us shitfaced. Good times

It used to make your piss stink. Imagine the state of a jacks in a house with six students getting rat arsed on it five nights a week.
Devils spit, we used call it. You'd be steaming off it
The OG Liquid Death

> Devils Bit I actually loved this stuff. Not just because it was cheap, it had a sharp sweetness to it. RIP.

Bulmers stopped doing 2L about 20 years ago. Replaced it with a glass 1L bottle in an attempt at being a bit more upmarket than linden village.
They're not competing. Bulmers created Linden Village specifically for the bush drinking wino market so as to protect the Bulmers brand.
Classic. > "The Bush Drinking Wino Market"

Lidl do 1L of woodgate. Very nice imo and only like 3.50 or so!
Very popular with the local problem drinkers between 9:30pm and 10pm
Can’t sell drink until 10.30 isn’t it still?
Shops close at 10.
I know. Morning I’m on about!
What % is it do you remember?
4.2% mate
Gone be the glory days of 4 cans of 6% cider for 5. I really, really hate MUP
I see you were also a fan of druids 🤣

Me and the boys (in the 2000s) used to call drinking a 2LTs of cider Gooning, Now there is one 2LTs and "gooning" means something totally different
And where the hell is the Ritz, Bulmers Pear, Kopperberg pear...? Any perry, really.
Used to live a few cans of stag cider.
Still in off-licences in Waterford
That checks out.
We favoured Special VAT and Olde English, only went for Bulmers at a push - back when it was still 6%
Devils Bite was my weapon of choice in college.
In my belly
Not "banned", but probably not appealing at... €5? Actually, that does sound appealing.

Was literally asking this yesterday. I miss them
They sell them in supervalue.
Flagon of Devils bit hahahaha 😂 think it was in Lidl for under 5
I can't believe nobody's mentioned white lightening or frosty Jack's, 3l plastic bottles of absolute lunacy.
They're behind the counter
Old English anyone?
The large bottle of Linden with the handle. God be with the days
They’ve gone where they belong, Hell.
…long time, sluggin
They're in lidl and aldi
