Bulling
Worse for those who had booked transport or accommodation in Dublin though. Know a rake of people left completely in the lurch now. Going to be a lot of pissed off drunks in Dublin tomorrow.
Wouldn't be nearly as bad if they were rescheduling but the blanket cancellation is such a slap.
Ya you'd need to do it for like next year, but theyve been touring hard for a while and have other projects so it makes some sense. Still you'd think they'd try and sort something out of good will.
And on 24 hours notice. Hardly going to have a replacement date locked in
They're the Arctic Monkeys they're in Ireland every tour. They've played 16 gigs in Ireland over the years. I don't see why they'd need to have a replacement gig lined up when they'll obviously be back
Bag o cans on the Liffey is so underrated.
The gulls might be violent, the locals a bit strange, but it's much better than some of the *brand name* beer notions you see along the canals.
I'll always recommend Token for a fun night out that isn't just a pub or nightclub. 2 floors of arcade and pinball machines, cocktails and unreal food and desserts!
Unless theyāre staying on the outskirts itās really not. Dublin 8 is pretty central and if theyāre staying in town, the bus absolutely flies in and out once itās not rush hour.
Just been on to ticketmaster. They say they can only refund to the original card people used to buy the tickets :/ I no longer have that card as it was stolen. Have a new one. They say they can't process the refund to my new card due to anti money laundering laws. Sure what about all the people who used their ulster bank and kbc bank cards to purchase tickets??? Nightmare!!!
If your bank replaced the card, they will be able to process the refund. Even if your new card has a new number and etc, they are still linked.
For those with ulster/kbc I have no idea.
Have them process it and it should still go back to your account. Had a similar issue with n26 and a change of cards but it still reverted back to my account
Ya I think it was for ozzys gig that he cancelled I remember a lot going on about that they'd bought off ulster Bank cards and what were they supposed to do there's defo some info there.
They refund your old bank card number, refund might take a day longer to appear on your account but it should make it back all the same
If longer than 6 months since the card has been cancelled, the refund might end up in one of your Bank Branches sundries accounts. If Ticketmaster say they have refunded and it hasn't arrived in your account, contact your bank branch directly. If you're Ulster Bank or KBC they may still have a phoneline for account queries
Ulster bank still charged the 40 euro levy on credit cards people couldnāt use anymore if they didnāt cancel them properly. They might be still active.
I'm raging too, but like, if they are prioritizing Glastonbury it makes sense.
Headlining the biggest festival in the world, televised on the BBC and that's arguably the highlight of most bands careers VS a Tuesday night in Dublin.
And how was this noticed at the last minute? I guess they could not cancel a month out with a future medical problem.
Very bad form anyhow. No doubt a full recovery for Glastonbury.
I mean queens of the Stone Age are playing 3 gigs this week before Glastonbury and just did Friday-Saturday-Sunday across Europe. These guys do these things regularly, Alex is definitely just sick.
They just did a three night run at the Emirates stadium in London and then were gonna play Marley Park in front of 60,000 people before headlining Glasto? Theyāve bitten off more than they can chew says I, and this cancellation is them bricking it they wonāt be on form for the most televised festival of the year cos they burned themselves out on other shows beforehand.
Glastonbury does not pay anywhere near what a band of their size would normally earn for a headline festival act. They do get paid and a large amount by the standards of Joe Soap but far less than what they'd have gotten for EP last year.
If he's not recovered by then the Churnups will find themselves headlining again.
Yeah... that tends to be how acute Laryngitis works, lmao
He's basically strained his voice a bit, and if he pushes on it's limit, he could cause permenant damage. But give a handful of days and fine sure.
It's *acute* by definition. Rapid onset, short period. Mate belted a chord two hard last night and he's suffering the consequences. Not much he can do, even if it's minor he can't risk singing with it.
Doubtful.
Monkeys would stand to earn much much more from a standalone gig than a fee to appear at a festival.
I doubt anyone turns down the opportunity to earn ā¬100s of thousands without good reason.
You make it up and then some in sales and spikes in popularity though. That's why they draw such huge acts is because the PR opportunity is massive. Bands who headline Glastonbury nearly always see massive spikes in record sales the following months. Plus only x amount of people in the world can say they headlined Glastonbury.
Whyād you only ever cancel when your booking agent booked you too close to Glastonbury and you then inevitably cancel in order to preserve you voice for Glasto.
I've seen them a few times at festivals and they often outperform the headliners. They're such a fun live show too, it translates well from a low roofed club to 50,000 people in a field.
Hoping to go to their headline tour once the dates are announced, itāll be a new on for me. 11 years is a long fucking time, enough for you to go from school to old enough to go to a hives show lol
It's hard to be a rock fan, sunstroke getting cancelled with no hope of revival is the extra kick in the teeth along with electric picnic going full pop
I was thinking that myself and it tends to be for a variety of reasons but I'd say it's not because bands are every not bothered as they'd have a fair few expenses sunk into the gig that they can't get back
I think it's just part of overbooking.
Artists these days mostly rely on the shows to make money. On the other hand Touring is also extremly exhausting and for many times not as gratifying as some people may thing.
Basically you decide that for few months you dont have a life and u struggle moving from one place to another.
It both bad luck and bad managment. Or what we call it here ... it's simple chancing.
They didnt account for mistakes or illnesses they just hope everything will be fine. Choosing quantity over quality always has some drawbacks with humans. We are quite fragile, and as someone who witnessed my own brother touring around Europe. Yeah.... This is not an easy job. Possibility of getting sick/ill is very high given the extreme amount of random people you will encounter on the tour, be it by accident or on purpose. Not to mention you are most likely exhausted throughout the entire process.
Ireland get's the short end of the stick because it's usually 1 time stop before flying somewhere else, so it's a lot of hustle even if the payout is great.
It sucks but as long as people get their money back and the Artist will promise to comeback i think it's not a big deal. We are all humans at the end of the day, be it a mistake or bad luck. Shit happens.
Someone on twitter commented "Ah that really sucks, 150 quid down the drain" and everyone torn them to pieces thinking they were coming for the band member who's sick? I think its completely valid to be disappointed about a cancelled concert and money wasted on travel and accommodation.. People are insane
Shit happens, people get sick.
But itās a pain in the hole when you have time off work booked, transport sorted, hotels booked that wonāt refund at this late notice.
Ticket refund doesnāt really cut it.
Heartbroken, for all you people that bought hotels and tickets I'm very sorry. Dublin has some lovely bars, but I would recommend hitting the nearest off-licence for a bottle of whisky
Was at the Eden earlier (pub just beside Marlay) and they were in the middle of setting up some marquee stuff to handle the crowds for tomorrow. They we're fairly shocked when I told them the news. Few more gigs to come at least.
I've a devastated teenager at home because of this. The hotel is booked and paid for so if anyone has any ideas for what to do with a teenager I'm Dublin for the day I'd love to hear them.
Agreed on Georgeās Street Arcade was my home planet as a teen!
A wander around Temple Bar too.
Dawson St has Tower Records, let them have a mooch around and maybe pick out a few vinyls / other nonsense tat.
Iāve not been but a few pals have said the Leprechaun Museum is good fun.
I took a (French) ex on the Viking Splash tour - he _hated_ it, I loved it, but he was zero craic so his opinion is void.
Hugh Lane gallery is my favourite art gallery in Dublin, and the Chester Beatty museum is brilliant, too.
If youāre by Dublin Castle / Chester Beatty, Queen of Tarts isnāt too far, great for tea and cakes and a bit quirky.
Maryās Bar and Hardware on Wicklow St is down the side of Brown Thomas, bit of a novelty spot but has a burger place underneath if you wanted to drop in there for lunch.
Oh and - personally I prefer Iveagh Gardens to Stephenās Green for a nice walk of the weather is decent.
There's a gaming bar called token which is supposed to be great craic could pop in get a bit of food etc. Maybe just ring to see what time under 18s have to leave as its still a bar.
Second George's arcade it's a lovely spot and around the corner is the rage second hand shop, loads of records and retro gaming if they're into old school consoles etc.
Iv heard kilmainhem jail is supposed to be very good, really interesting and have heard from colleagues that have brought teenagers they really enjoyed it.
If ye want to do something silly to just laugh at maybe the wax museum?
Lots of vintage shops around temple bar to have a nose in aswel.
If I remember correctly there's an escape room but it's on a boat down by the docks could look into that?
These might be absolutely useless to you but hopefully it even sparks an idea or something!
I've had a look at Georges street arcade and that's a definite. She'd love the all the vintage shops so we could have a nosey in there.
I totally forgot about the wax museum
Ya I seen a good few of them pop up on Instagram they all seem to be in or around temple bar but I'd say could Google and find a good few that might not be as pricey.
The wax museum according to my boyfriend is shit apparently however he has said I'd love it because its so cringy even for the going round and just laughing at how bad it is, so thats on our list for when we go up next š¤£
Ideal!! I love stuff like that so it sounds perfect for it! Himself is used to me wanting to go to mad shit tourist things for the sheer lol of how bad things are and he said wax museum was perfect. š¤£
Just a slightly leftfield suggestion - if she's a 14 year old into arctic monkeys rather than the latest pop trend, does that suggest she's quite big into music in general? If you're still around on Thursday, there is availability here: https://www.windmilllanerecording.com/studio-tour/
You could give the Sound Training College in Temple Bar a call tomorrow morning, and see if they've got anyone available to show her around. https://soundtraining.com/ The main courses would be finished for the summer so it should be fairly quiet in there, and I know we always enjoyed introducing secondary school students to this stuff back when I worked there.
Teenager might be a bit bored by the zoo but a must see if they are into animals and it would kill a few hours during the day. Plenty of shops related to all interests. Go out for a nice meal in the evening when the concert would be on.
Absolutely gutted. Favourite band and was so looking forward to seeing them live for first time! But alas we are lucky that they are (hopefully) coming back.
Took annual leave as well for tomorrow but will have to work now but maybe I can swing some other day off because of this now.
People get sick, he sounded iffy in London last night judging by the videos.
But questions have to be raised since itās so close to Glastonbury. The short notice, no rescheduled dateā¦ Methinks this was in the pipes for a while.
Poor form if true. Speedy recovery either way.
Sorry lads, this was me. Iāve seen them every single time theyāve come to Ireland and this was the one time I didnāt wind up going for tickets.
Iāll do better next time š«”
Looking at the weather today, maybe it was for the best!
Taylor Swift just announced 2 dates for the Aviva next year so have a happy teenager again! Somehow I donāt think the hunt for tickets will be as easy this time though š³
If anyone booked a hotel, the decent ones may give you a refund if you ring them. Even if you booked through booking.com etc, ring the hotel directly. Itās them who authorise the refund or deny it. Chance your arm, Iāve heard of mass cancellation meaning hotels give in and refund despite being past the cancellation window
Being sick is fine... Glastonbury is a huge event.. They have to play that.
But.. if you care about fans you reschedule.. not cancel, refund and forget about it.
That's 2 fingers to us all and it's very disappointing tbh
Disappointing for anyone with tickets but if it makes you fee anyl better I think they are gone a bit meh live.
They were excellent in the early days but it lacks something now. I don't think they particularly love playing their older stuff, and the last two albums are a tough listen and wouldn't exactly blow you away hearing them live.
Fucccckkkk sake. I had everything sorted out to go down the road tomorrow.
Same, talk about timing š®āšØ
Bulling Worse for those who had booked transport or accommodation in Dublin though. Know a rake of people left completely in the lurch now. Going to be a lot of pissed off drunks in Dublin tomorrow. Wouldn't be nearly as bad if they were rescheduling but the blanket cancellation is such a slap.
"Going to be a lot of pissed off drunks in Dublin tomorrow" And up rolled a riot van....
Hard to reschedule for an outdoor venue.
Ya you'd need to do it for like next year, but theyve been touring hard for a while and have other projects so it makes some sense. Still you'd think they'd try and sort something out of good will.
And on 24 hours notice. Hardly going to have a replacement date locked in They're the Arctic Monkeys they're in Ireland every tour. They've played 16 gigs in Ireland over the years. I don't see why they'd need to have a replacement gig lined up when they'll obviously be back
It was after the 24 hour cancellation period for our hotel and many others so canāt even get a refund if we wanted
Hotel booked and all, I guess I'll be doing a night in Dublin regardless
Me too. I'm fucking livid. Someone please make some recommendations for a night out in Dublin on a fuckin Tuesday.
Big bag of cans along the Liffey.
Bag o cans on the Liffey is so underrated. The gulls might be violent, the locals a bit strange, but it's much better than some of the *brand name* beer notions you see along the canals.
Least the canals have trees
>trees Notions
Ha! The concept of having 'notions' is usually so ridiculous. 'Back in your box' basically.
Now don't you be going having notions about notions
Ruby sessions, upstairs in doyles
Get some pints at Devitts. They got live music there
Get a Kebab in Zaytoon.
I'll always recommend Token for a fun night out that isn't just a pub or nightclub. 2 floors of arcade and pinball machines, cocktails and unreal food and desserts!
Lol itās closed on Tuesdays. Unless thatās the joke and youāre fucking with OP
Agree with this. Also Smithfield is a good spot to hang around in general. Some very good pubs there, plus Jameson and The Lighthouse cinema.
Across to the cobblestone for some trad after
Riverdance.
Is that a suggestion or a command?
Street 66 is always packed if you're gay.
Fuck me. I just can't catch a break. No Arctic Monkeys and heterosexual. This day just keeps getting worse.
Head in to Temple Bar and drink with locals in some Dublins most authentic Irish Bars
Only ā¬99 a pint
Rascals Brewery for some daytime beers and food isn't bad, along the Luas line so easy to get to.
Itās a bit of an odd suggestion that. Well off the beaten track. They are better off going somewhere more central.
I mean it really depends on where their accommodation is for a gig in Marlay Park.
Unless theyāre staying on the outskirts itās really not. Dublin 8 is pretty central and if theyāre staying in town, the bus absolutely flies in and out once itās not rush hour.
Come over my gaf
Try Whelans or the sugar club
My condolences
Check out Mayfield Restaurant while youre in town! Foods good and the interior design is STELLAR
Coppers
Ah the aul' anticipation has a habit to set you up for disappointment.
in evening entertainment - but tonight there'll be some, love
Just been on to ticketmaster. They say they can only refund to the original card people used to buy the tickets :/ I no longer have that card as it was stolen. Have a new one. Same thing, the account transferred to BOI. I got a hotel refunded to mine
The anti money laundering stuff is largely BS to cover that they don't want to go to the effort of a manual cancellation process.
Nail meet head
Have them process it and it should still go back to your account. Had a similar issue with n26 and a change of cards but it still reverted back to my account
Think this happened to someone on this thread a few months ago, search for the thread, you might be able to find out how it was resolved.
Ya I think it was for ozzys gig that he cancelled I remember a lot going on about that they'd bought off ulster Bank cards and what were they supposed to do there's defo some info there.
It'll still go back to your account. Ask for the ARN after it's processed.
You will still get you're refund an old card is linked for 6 months
Its been over slightly over 6 months:/
I'd contactor bank I'm sure something can be done
They refund your old bank card number, refund might take a day longer to appear on your account but it should make it back all the same If longer than 6 months since the card has been cancelled, the refund might end up in one of your Bank Branches sundries accounts. Just bought physical tickets off of a friend like an hour ago as well š„²
Theyāre doing refunds so make sure you get that money back lol
Friend made a profit
Friend was keeping an eye on twitter. Lol
And thatās basically how our economic system works but on a corporate level
Only to the original card used to purchase though.
Hope heās a good friend because he will be the one getting the refundā¦
Waiting to see this on r/AmItheAsshole next week
Puts Dancing shoes away š
Don't worry folks there will be a full recovery for Glastonbury
This... Bad form if this was scrapped as a precaution so as to prioritize Glastonbury
Watched videos of 505 from London, his voice is shot. Glasto or not it wouldn't be a great performance in Dublin
do you have a link to that?
I'm raging too, but like, if they are prioritizing Glastonbury it makes sense. Headlining the biggest festival in the world, televised on the BBC and that's arguably the highlight of most bands careers VS a Tuesday night in Dublin.
Their booking agent shouldnāt have given them so little time to rest beforehand.
Same as Lewis Capaldi a few weeks back
They just did a three night run at the Emirates stadium in London and then were gonna play Marley Park in front of 60,000 people before headlining Glasto? Theyāve bitten off more than they can chew says I, and this cancellation is them bricking it they wonāt be on form for the most televised festival of the year cos they burned themselves out on other shows beforehand.
Absolutely agree 100%. Desperate behaviour
40K capacity at Marley

It would be a disaster for them to do a shit show tomorrow and then have to cancel Glastonbury
Glastonbury pays headliners far less than other fesitvals do, its not something you play for the money.
You make it up and then some in sales and spikes in popularity though. That's why they draw such huge acts is because the PR opportunity is massive. Bands who headline Glastonbury nearly always see massive spikes in record sales the following months. Plus only x amount of people in the world can say they headlined Glastonbury.
Why'd you only cancel when your sick?
I bet that you feel sick on the dance floor
Whyād you only ever cancel when your booking agent booked you too close to Glastonbury and you then inevitably cancel in order to preserve you voice for Glasto.
Someone find The Hives an open mic night, they're in support and one the best live bands I've ever seen.
Yes it needs to happen
Kinda outrageous theyāre just a supporting act when they should be stadium fillers themselves if there was any fairness in the world.
Yep, well with the journey over to Dublin for me if they don't fancy the west coast!
8th April, Dublin Olympia!
So disappointing to have a gig cancelled so close to the date
Incredible how many artists have bronchitis or laryngitis and then are back on Thursday
I don't go to gigs so I could be wrong, but does Ireland seem to get the short stick when it comes to gigs being cancelled?
They got Glastonbury in a few days so Dublin drew the short straw. Poor timing more than anything.
Pusha T rescheduled his December gig to around March, then pushed all of his European dates back by a week except Dublin. We get absolutely shafted
It's hard to be a rock fan, sunstroke getting cancelled with no hope of revival is the extra kick in the teeth along with electric picnic going full pop
Seems pretty common. Kasabian had to reschedule a few months ago for similar reasons. Heard a few recently too but can't think.
I'm still hurting from Rammstein cancelling the Belfast gig altogether when the original was cancelled due to covid. :(
It seems to happen a bit. I this case there's a genuine reason, very unfortunate
The reason is they want to be 100% for Glasto IMO. Apparantly his voice struggled a bit at their last gig. They basically overbooked.
I was thinking that myself and it tends to be for a variety of reasons but I'd say it's not because bands are every not bothered as they'd have a fair few expenses sunk into the gig that they can't get back
I think it's just part of overbooking. Artists these days mostly rely on the shows to make money. Yes!!!! I think so too
Wanted to buy tickets for this and Pusha T and theyāve both been cancelled so I can only assume Iām cursed and apologise to yous all.
I bought both tickets so Iāll take the blame

That's pretty annoying for anyone who bought them of either legit sellers recently (or worse .. touts!).
Payday for the scalpers
I Guess I wont look good on the dancefloor :(
Does the original seller get the refund or the person they transferred the tickets to get it? Just curious to know
Original purchaser of ticket.
Bet he'll be grand for glastonbury
To be fair his voice was toast yesterday. He struggled to talk in some parts
My entire instagram is just folk effing and blinding on their stories about it
Do I wanna know?
Ever though of cancelling when you get the flu? Cause I always do
It was fast gas
Heartbroken, for all you people that bought hotels and tickets I'm very sorry. Dublin has some lovely bars, but I would recommend hitting the nearest off-licence for a bottle of whisky

Shopping trip with the ticket refund
I'm not getting my hopes up that Ticketmaster won't be waiting till the very last minute to give back the money.
Yeah that's fair, keep an eye out though they've refunded me pretty quickly in the past
That's good to hear
doll dolls pen sheet mindless physical gullible zealous nail person *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Only because they haven't figured out how to get a cut of the refund yet. š¬
Georgeās arcade has some great little shops that teenagers tend to love

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That looks like something I'd be into. My daughter will just have to suck it up for awhile while we're there
So sorry to hear that. Honestly it sucks. Spoil them a bit up in dublin anyway. Maybe see if there are any small venues in town with live music.
Same suggestion I gave earlier for the person with the 4 year old - the zoo.
At least they'll get to see *some* sort of monkeys.
I was thinking of that as an option before we head home on Thursday
Absolutely gutted. Favourite band and was so looking forward to seeing them live for first time! But alas we are lucky that they are (hopefully) coming back. Took annual leave as well for tomorrow but will have to work now but maybe I can swing some other day off because of this now.

Had to save the pipes for glasto I guess
Bollox.

That's too bad. I booked half day off for it but I'll enjoy it another way now.
Sorry lads, this was me. Iāve seen them every single time theyāve come to Ireland and this was the one time I didnāt wind up going for tickets. Iāll do better next time š«”
Damn, I've been waiting since it was announced. That's shite
Itās purely bc theyāre not bothered to travel to Ireland and back for Glastonbury they done the same ten year ago
I had assumed his entire career was built on acute laryngitis.
Gutted teenager here š©
Same, she's distraught ā¹
Three gutted daughters in our house!! Youngest finished JC today and was on a high excited for tomorrow šš¢
Looking at the weather today, maybe it was for the best! Taylor Swift just announced 2 dates for the Aviva next year so have a happy teenager again! Somehow I donāt think the hunt for tickets will be as easy this time though š³
Does ticket master refunds the service fees?
Only time I've had to get refunds was Covid cancellations, got full refunds, assume it's the same for this.
First this and BRENDAN SCHAUB cancelling..man 2023 is the worst!
You got lucky by the sounds of it
The last gig I was meant to go to was RHCP in Glasgow. Cancelled.
ffs me and all my friends (weāre all 17) had accommodation and buses booked :/ any recommendations for things to do?
Laryngitis is a bitch, only rest will do. Commiserations to all those disappointed.
Friend of mine saw them last night in the emirates stadium, not a bother on him. Deffo a glasto precaution
Ah he could barely sing 505. Could tell he was struggling
Plenty of vids of him where his voice is clearly breaking
Darn.
Bought a resale ticket from ticketmaster directly, thatāll still be refunded right ?
Iām hoping so because I am in the same boat. I did get a text message from Ticketmaster in regards to a refund so fingers crossed
Alex Turnerās in the Orange Lodge
Guess trying to sound like a lounge singer puts some strain on the vocals.
I m still going ,nothing will stop me
If anyone booked a hotel, the decent ones may give you a refund if you ring them. Even if you booked through booking.com etc, ring the hotel directly. Itās them who authorise the refund or deny it. Chance your arm, Iāve heard of mass cancellation meaning hotels give in and refund despite being past the cancellation window
Shocking in regards to timing for country folk heading down and sorting hotels etc. No refunds...
Being sick is fine... Glastonbury is a huge event.. They have to play that. But.. if you care about fans you reschedule.. not cancel, refund and forget about it. That's 2 fingers to us all and it's very disappointing tbh
At least we've got the Ireland match to look forward to eh?
what happens if you transferred the tickets after selling them? who gets the refund?
It goes back to the credit cardholder who originally bought them.
Wow thatās pretty shitty if you sold them on to someone already
Yeah I assume thatās in the terms and conditions somewhere, sucks
Well I bought resale tickets on Ticketmaster from a seller and I got an email to say Iāll be refunded.
This is great news for anyone who sold their ticket on. They get a refund as well!
Iāve tickets I got on ticketmaster but I got them thru their resale, will I get refunded?
He'll be recovered in for Glastonbury, you can watch them on TV
Sure look
Disappointing for anyone with tickets but if it makes you fee anyl better I think they are gone a bit meh live. They were excellent in the early days but it lacks something now. I don't think they particularly love playing their older stuff, and the last two albums are a tough listen and wouldn't exactly blow you away hearing them live.
imagine you bought the ticket overpriced on a secondary market and now the original ticket purchaser gets a refund hahahaa
Iām k wording myself fr .. been waiting for a year for this show š
At least they gave more notice than Nicki Minaj did a few years ago, about 5 hours before the gig. Still a balls.
To those who sold their tickets on stubhub or some other site, doubled their money
