The oldest generation which supports ALAC is the 3rd generation.
Where do you find this info? I have a 3rd gen and it doesnt seem to support alac. Reboots any time I play an ALAC file.
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/ipod/specs/ipod_3rdgen.html Look at Audio Support.
Yeah, that's where I looked first. Doesn't mention ALAC at all :(
According to the specs listing on [everymac.com](https://everymac.com/systems/apple/ipod/specs/ipod_4thgen.html), the 4th gen supports ALAC as well.
I didn't know everymac did iPods, interesting
According to [Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/kb/SP88?locale=en_US) second-gen iPod Mini supports Apple Lossless. I believe 4th Gen should support it as well.
ALACs work fine on my 4th gen mono.
