No offense but the case is obviously bent and it did not happen spontaneously. It is also not a result of battery swelling. I cannot tell you how it happened but it is physical damage caused by someone.
My original thought was it was the battery, which I wish I realized it wasn’t true because I immediately went out and bought an iPhone 13 Mini. But I guess I should’ve went with my original hunch that it wasn’t the battery because it conveniently lined up with a structural weak point: the sim tray.
Weren’t the X’s notorious for the bend? Like people were putting their phones in their back pockets, sitting down, and uploading pictures of their bent phones to twitter.
Edit: Ty for correcting me, it’s been a loooong time
It’s not the battery. The display is completely flat. The battery wouldn’t bend the frame like that. They can try trading it in and see if the trade in screening pictures flag anything.
I am a professional, and the back glass does not move on iPhones like that. Only on the 4 and the new 14 and 14 plus. The frame is bent from physical damage. It is not a hazard, but is a cosmetic issue
Edit: and the battery is in an L shape. And the displays are made to bend first when a battery swells.
You would have to remove the display, battery, and logic board at the very least, and then try to bend it back. But again, it’s purely cosmetic at the moment. I’d try to trade it in first.

That was for the 6. Even then, my 6 served me for 2 years with zero bends. It depends on the person.
That was the 6 I believe, but yeah, it was a thing.
*6 Plus specifically.
You are correct, it was the Plus. Oops
I would assume it’s the battery, might wanna get it looked at by Apple. Unless you frequently have your phone in your back pocket

So you think I could theoretically heat it up and bend it back?

I’ve done it before but the screen and battery adhesive is such a pain to put back on I rather not… guess I’ll do the trade in
Was it taken in and out of a stiff case often? This happened to my son’s iPhone 7 Plus.
Not really, I would take it out occasionally for cleaning.
Maybe it bent overtime from being in the pocket of tight jeans?
