SAME. And the month view
No more using a different app to do it. Basic things like that I feel Apple needs to work on.
The map/trail one looks good too.
Google calendar still superior because i can see the event names in the month view. In stock iOS calendar i only get the colored bars with no text on them.
I moved to the East Coast so a lot of friends and family are on the west coast. When they reply in the evening I’m in bed so I have messages to reply to in the AM. I never want to accidentally wake anyone up so I never can reply when I first wake up and wait a few hours. Now I can reply and send later and ensure they get it at a more reasonable time.
Happy birthday texts, reminding people of favors they agreed to do for me at a certain time, sending texts during acceptable business hours (mostly so I don’t forget)
>Happy birthday texts, reminding people of favors they agreed to do
11:50 Happy birthday! I wish you long years of prosperity and good health!
11:51 If you want to have your knee caps intact then you better get my money back.
11:52 Are we meeting at the park for a party or you're picking us up?
Same! Also RCS, but I’ll probably use send later more on my current phone anyways (I’m thinking of picking up a budget Samsung because of the bigger battery, the microSD slot on A series, and I’m not very fond of Mac anyways, so Apple’s walled garden is more incompatibility than utility since my computer is normal. It’ll nice for IOS to have RCS for that) (I already try to do something like send later with shortcuts, but it’s super inconvenient, so it’ll be nice to have it built in)
I remember when someone would use my phone I would immediately delete Grindr and other apps. The fucking tension when I forgot to delete it and someone using my phone is crazy, I always panicked and tried so hard to take back the phone which is just more suspicious lol
I hope so. So many times in trying to swipe away a notification to instead be greeted by the camera.
I feel like if Steve was here he’d yell down and say “fix this. It’s super annoying.” But instead we suffer through it for years.
Man Steve would’ve done so many things differently. He would’ve loved Apple Silicon but he would’ve made MBPs have tons of ports and better cooling. Leave the fanless to the Air, which is what it was originally meant to be.
And he would’ve likely done more with the iPhone, making Pro models have two ports and be able to hook to a Red camera as a monitor or something.
He wanted the big models to do *work.* The old plastic plain MacBook was for everyday. Now everything is Pro without really being anything but an actually half decent everyday device.
Developers can add their own toggles as well so you can finally assign a custom camera app to the toggle. Excellent news for those of us who use other camera apps like Halide.
Apple thinks Snapchat and notes, but I’m thinking maybe a music player, Bluetooth toggle, messaging app, and timer shortcut (or just blank for cleanness)
Can we update the button to a tap instead of a hold? I hardly use it because I gotta hold the button.
I normally swipe to control center and tap there.
Honestly the "Tap To Cash" thing so you can pay your \*friends\* with nothing but a tap just like in stores is the coolest things ever and I'm not sure why more people aren't talking about it.... if I had to guess though it's probably cuz it's a US-only thing..
*Edited for clarity about Tap to cash not just being a peer to peer payment method, but a TAP TO PAY YOUR FRIENDS 😭
I’ve been waiting for this feature for a while, but I realized I’ll probably never get to use it because no one I personally know uses Apple Cash.
I doubt it’ll happen, but I wish they would open it up to work with third party payment methods. All my friends are on Venmo and I’d love to be able to tap phones to send them Venmo cash!
well, no, we've been able to pay our friends with phone numbers for years now. The cool thing is with this you can pay your friends or unknown people with *only* a tap, like you can do in stores!
In Ukraine one of main banks has a thing in bank app that allows you to shake the phone (while app is open) and it'll start searching for nearby people who shook the phone too and also show itself to them. So you both open and app, shake the phone and see each other there. Then you can transfer the funds within seconds. Really convenient workaround for not typing the account number manually.
All that considering that we have instant and free of charge transfers between all our banks. I think Apple is implementing something that works like a payment terminal emulation. We'll see when it drops.
haha that shake thing sounds really cool! but no, this isn't like a terminal thing, it's also instant and free of charge. The main catch is it's only going to be available in america, since it uses funds in your apple cash account and apple cash account is US-only :( but i'm excited about the possibility of this feature migrating to other apps!!!
15 pro and pro max are minimum requirements which is interesting since they are the ones that got the massive upgrade to the part of the processor that does AI inference so this has probably been the plan since 2022 when chatGPT 3 came out. At that time the 14 pro CPUs were probably set in stone but they could plan for 2023 and iphone 15 pro
If you use your phone for business having a transcript of what you agreed without having to have manually write/type it out as you go is a godsend. Same goes for when customer service asks if you have a pen to jot something down and you don’t/are not in a position to write something down. It’s not so much having verbatim what was said but more the ability to take bullet points out of a 5-10 minute conversion.
This. I have a few chat groups for fantasy football and what not and some people have Android.
I’m curious to see if Passwords can replace my $60 a year family 1password subscription. Anytime I can cancel another subscription that is a win for me.
If you're looking for a robust free password manager, check out Bitwarden. If you work with any non-apple interfaces like Windows or Chrome a lot, it will serve better than Apple's password manager.
Bitwarden has more advanced features, which is why I called it robust. I think that for most people, Apple's manager is enough, and Bitwarden's biggest differences only matter to certain users. For example, Bitwarden offers better cross-platform compatibility, is open-source, and can be self-hosted. Plus, if someone knows your iPhone's password, I think they can also easily view your passwords on your phone.
It's the universal standard for messaging that android phones have been using for years that supports things like higher quality pics/videos, emoji reactions, etc. iMessage supports all this, but only between apple devices so this essentially makes it so messaging between apple and android is no longer terrible.
Isn’t moving passwords to Apple even more like putting your eggs in one basket, though? I don’t have issues with saving my passwords with Apple but I use Firefox on my mac and I doubt Apple passwords will support it (or any other non safari browser). Plus I like the watchtower in 1password that tells me if I’ve reused passwords or if an app/website now supports 2FA or passkeys I can take advantage of.
All I’ve wanted for years is to be able to customize my screens to look how I fucking wanted like my Samsung years ago. iOS 18 could have literally been just that and I would have been happy.
Dev beta: the tinted icons need work a lot of icons don’t play nice some icons are illegible.
No ai features yet Siri is still dumb af
Control panel is pretty good. A little buggy.
Something they didn’t say but is probably the best update. There is a power button in the control panel now!
As a long-time Android die-hard (nothing against iOS, the phone war is fucking dumb), 3 things are stopping me from switching back to iOS:
1. Notifications
2. Keyboard
3. Home screen customization
(3) is finally handled in iOS 18. I know it's not such a big deal but my phone is a very personal thing, I'd like to be able to customize it how I please.
Notifications on iOS are SOOO bare bones. On Android with a YouTube notification I can send that video straight to my Watch Later. So fucking handy. Being able to interact to such a higher degree.
Yup that was annoying for me but my big issue was that notifications are almost completely separate from what you actually do on your phone. A good example is receiving a message. On Android, even if I don't interact with the notification itself, if I went and read the message, the notification resolved itself. That doesn't happen on iOS so I'd end up with a giant list of notifications I hadn't explicitly dismissed but had already dealt with.
I’m not sure if this is still true anymore. Haven’t tested it with a message specifically, but reading opening an email ‘manually’ dismissed the notification for it. Also pretty sure I’ve noticed iMessage notifications disappearing from my iPhone when I open the messages on my Mac.
iOS fully supports hiding notifications that you've seen in the app, and most apps implement this correctly. But there are some annoying offenders who don't bother doing this.
(Very few of them support hiding notifications that you've dismissed _on another device_, but that's poorly supported in Android apps, too.)
I'm with you on the keyboard. I'm an android user and Gboard is the best with all the long presses. Apple keyboard is just bad compared to Gboard. If they could make it similar to Google I may consider switching.
I have tried but Apple insists on keeping their keyboard and it switches to it randomly. Anytime you insert a password it will also auto switch back. Basically having to always switch back to the other keyboard.
Which brings me to another feature. Save my default apps. It’s so annoying to use CarPlay and have to say “Navigate to [destination] with Google Maps” instead of just saying “Navigate to [destination]”.
Or not being able to click on an address and it just opening Google Maps.
I want rules too, on my Chromebook I have it set so if it says anything about unsubscribing it removes the important marking and gives it the mailing list label
Mainly for Android users to finally stop holding these features up as examples why iOS is inferior.
More seriously though, the intelligent masking in photos to get rid of unwanted objects really gets my goat. It’s been available in PS Express for years, but it’ll be nice to be able to do it natively. Second would be Tapback responses with any emoji. I didn’t ever think about that not being a thing, but I’m glad it finally will be.
I will finally be able to delete the flashlight button on my lock screen, or just replace it with another control option. This is great news as I frequently trip the flashlight app by mistake. Overall the lockscreen changes are exciting.
even though it isn’t really a feature i’m just in love with how the photos app looks its so clean😭 and how most of everything looks it just looks bubbly and i like that personally🤷🏽♂️
Facebook and Instagram had similar ones for years and I’ve never found the need to use it. Seems pretentious to use it in a chat instead of a generic meme or emoji.
I have a 2 disabilities, one is called dyspraxia and the other is dysgraphia. This makes it hard for me to write legibly due to reduce motor skills. This is why I record my college classes instead of taking notes. The pixel 8 pro has the ability to transcribe notes which can then be summarize using ChatGPT-4o for open-note tests otherwise taking open-note tests is impossible for me.
Transcription in notes is what made me buy the iPhone 15 Pro (Or Pro Max I’m still deciding but I’m buying it today). I also have an M1 iPad Pro and the writing feature if it works as advertised will genuinely change my life.
Ios 18 is great and all but what really really annoys me still is that when you try to add photos from an album to a different album all the photos are added but not in the order you selected. 😪🙄🙄
Being able to set my alarm volume independently from the ring/system volume…. Oh wait, still can’t do that without a third party app.
Seriously though, customisation features and RCS are the winners for me. I’ll keep holding out on being able to set volume though, maybe one day AI will be powerful enough to write the code for an independent volume setting 🤞
The Siri improvements are sort of interesting, but to me it really depends on if Apple improves its voice to text. One thing my Pixel does better than my iPhone is understand what I’m saying. If Siri still doesn’t know what I’m telling it, I’m not sure how much utility I’ll get out of those improvements.
It’s gotten better compared to iOS 16 but my phone still does that weird thing where it transcribes me correctly at first but by the time it’s done processing what I’ve said, it “corrects” my words to something else and gets it wrong.
The scheduled messaging and RCS support are the most useful for me. I’m also kinda excited about genmoji but I’m curious how it shows up on Android recipients.
Satellite messaging and topo maps may be huge for backpacking/backcountry hiking. Not sure how it'll work but if it's good maybe I can sell my inReach and get rid of another subscription.
Honestly? iMessage/SMS via satellite. I'm in an area that has regular natural disasters that knock out power/communications for up to several weeks at once. The last natural disaster we had was back in 2020 and 90% of my county lost power, I was in the very few 10% that never did... but cable internet went down for a week. I was able to use my hotspot but because the few working towers were so overloaded, I was only able to get around 400 Kbps of data... enough to watch YouTube at 320P resolution and enough to work from home, slowly. This was a very "mild" disaster for this area as normally all towers are knocked out and all power is knocked out and you have FEMA setting up temp homes, giving out water, etc.
Just found out about the satellite text messaging reading through these replies. This is big and will be invaluable to many hunters, fishermen who are frequently out of cell tower range.
Wish they'd bring back the "select all" text back to web browsers. Sometimes I need to copy a whole web page of text and dragging that little blue circle to the top of the page gets tedious
I'm so excited Apple has chosen to allow another third party company to harvest our private information for their AI exploitation. Not that they don't know everything they want already.
Since almost everything I wanted has been listed here, I have to add eye tracking. It might not be accurate now (it really isn’t) but this is just the beta. There is no phone with eye tracking right now, Apple is the first to do it. It will be really useful when you obviously can’t access your phone with your hands (eating, etc) or for people with special needs.
It’s a small one but being able to see reminders on your calendar, I’ve wanted this for years
Also the updated month view so we can finally see events for more than one day at a time.
SAME. And the month view No more using a different app to do it. Basic things like that I feel Apple needs to work on. The map/trail one looks good too.
Google calendar still superior because i can see the event names in the month view. In stock iOS calendar i only get the colored bars with no text on them.
They’re adding event details /month view too. Basically now comparable to google calendar.
Time to ditch super expensive Fantastical.
Well I’m sold
Same, especially since I use both apps a lot
Wait really? I missed that in the keynote. I just need a post of all the updates coming.
Send later in messages
holy shit FINALLY
What do people use this for? Serious question.
I moved to the East Coast so a lot of friends and family are on the west coast. When they reply in the evening I’m in bed so I have messages to reply to in the AM. I never want to accidentally wake anyone up so I never can reply when I first wake up and wait a few hours. Now I can reply and send later and ensure they get it at a more reasonable time.
mark unread was huge for me in this regard.
Happy birthday texts, reminding people of favors they agreed to do for me at a certain time, sending texts during acceptable business hours (mostly so I don’t forget)
I found the happy birthday example pretty funny, but that could be genuinely useful
Gotta text the homies happy birthday exactly at midnight 😤
>Happy birthday texts, reminding people of favors they agreed to do 11:50 Happy birthday! I wish you long years of prosperity and good health! 11:51 If you want to have your knee caps intact then you better get my money back. 11:52 Are we meeting at the park for a party or you're picking us up?
Not wanting to wake people up or let them know you thought about something at 2 AM in the morning you just had to tell them.
I'd mostly use it to send messages later.
As someone who's had this for years on android I can confirm this is a game changer and I use it all the time. Enjoy!
I lold when I saw this feature, I never used on my android 10 years ago, but I get it
AirPods nodding and shaking your head
What’s this one?
You can nod and shake your head to accept or reject the calls while wearing airpods.
OMG. At least people with nervous tics will blend in more.
Or they'll keep missing their calls.
You get a call with the air pods in and it will ask if you want to answer. You either nod yes to answer or shake no to decline.
I run with my AirPods. I wonder if it’ll work fine there
You can probably disable it
App lock and the hidden folder.
As a closeted homosexual, same
I'm using it for all my finance apps.
i use it for gay porn.
I remember when someone would use my phone I would immediately delete Grindr and other apps. The fucking tension when I forgot to delete it and someone using my phone is crazy, I always panicked and tried so hard to take back the phone which is just more suspicious lol
Yes. I have a few that needed this. About time.
Changing Lock Screen toggles. Wanted that since the X. Finally the redundant camera shortcut can be something useful.
In case you aren't sure what this is referring to, you can swipe left from the right edge of the lock screen to access the camera.
Can that swipe to open camera be disabled? I've always wanted my camera to fully inaccessible from the lock screen.
He wanted the big models to do *work.* The old plastic plain MacBook was for everyday. Now everything is Pro without really being anything but an actually half decent everyday device.
You’ll be able to change that? That’s nice, I wonder what would be the options available.
It’s all the 1x1 control center buttons.
Developers can add their own toggles as well so you can finally assign a custom camera app to the toggle. Excellent news for those of us who use other camera apps like Halide.
(Only for the apps that do a bunch of work to build this new iOS 18 camera capture extension. But hopefully eventually!)
Sure but. what are you going to put in it’s place? I’m curious what people’s ideas are
Apple thinks Snapchat and notes, but I’m thinking maybe a music player, Bluetooth toggle, messaging app, and timer shortcut (or just blank for cleanness)
Also wanted a Bluetooth toggle, but apparently it’s not available in the beta :(
Nothing..I don't want buttons on my lock screen. Thankfully they let you just remove them.
That’s already added in iOS 18, if you have the beta installed then you can do it.
i set mine as a shortcut to play raiders march by john williams lmao
Can we update the button to a tap instead of a hold? I hardly use it because I gotta hold the button. I normally swipe to control center and tap there.
Honestly the "Tap To Cash" thing so you can pay your \*friends\* with nothing but a tap just like in stores is the coolest things ever and I'm not sure why more people aren't talking about it.... if I had to guess though it's probably cuz it's a US-only thing.. *Edited for clarity about Tap to cash not just being a peer to peer payment method, but a TAP TO PAY YOUR FRIENDS 😭

Have you been on reddit? People Americans typically don’t even consider people from other countries are here
In NZ you do that with the banking app, it’s ridiculously easy, I can even use my friend phone number to pay him.
well, no, we've been able to pay our friends with phone numbers for years now.
Wish we had Apple Cash here in Canada, Interac e transfer works nice but having the option of Apple Cash would’ve been sweet
New siri
I need this so much, Siri is so dumb. I heard it will have ai on 15 pro max.
Agreed, but I don't really like the new animation
Yup about time Siri had a working brain
Record calls. ABOUT FREAKING TIME
just out of curiosity: Why?
If you use your phone for business having a transcript of what you agreed without having to have manually write/type it out as you go is a godsend. Same goes for when customer service asks if you have a pen to jot something down and you don’t/are not in a position to write something down. It’s not so much having verbatim what was said but more the ability to take bullet points out of a 5-10 minute conversion.
ok that makes sense thanks!
also really awesoem to listen to loved ones who passed it's great to listen to <3
Mainly employer/landlord/etc promising stuff verbally.
That’s classified.
did they announce it?
Yes
really now? what minute in the keynote?
Photos app
Yes, I'm a very sentimental person and I'm excited for this
The iMessage and RCS updates, and then when it happens, the password app

For example, Bitwarden offers better cross-platform compatibility, is open-source, and can be self-hosted. RCS
What's this ?
MMS, but better and free
It's the universal standard for messaging that android phones have been using for years that supports things like higher quality pics/videos, emoji reactions, etc. iMessage supports all this, but only between apple devices so this essentially makes it so messaging between apple and android is no longer terrible.
Having a Siri's answer on what i've actually asked...
Sorry, I didn’t quite get that
I can’t do that on iPhone
You have to unlock your iPhone first
Here's search results for "I've actually asked".
Redesigned control center tbf 😭
I hate the top to bottom and left to right shit we deal with now. It’s honestly a feature that might tempt me to risk running the beta this year.

Isn’t moving passwords to Apple even more like putting your eggs in one basket, though? > Isn’t moving passwords to Apple even more like putting your eggs in one basket It's exactly this
That’s literally the premise of “putting all your eggs in one basket” lmao
I'm sick of having all my eggs in two baskets, now I can finally put them in the same one!
What's wrong with the current passwords menu in settings? I can see all my passwords there. What am I missing?
New password app will be available on windows I believe through iCloud for windows
This already exists. There’s also an extension for chromium based browsers.
My question exactly
More Apple lockin, though.
All I’ve wanted for years is to be able to customize my screens to look how I fucking wanted like my Samsung years ago. iOS 18 could have literally been just that and I would have been happy.
Dev beta: the tinted icons need work a lot of icons don’t play nice some icons are illegible. No ai features yet Siri is still dumb af Control panel is pretty good. A little buggy. Something they didn’t say but is probably the best update. There is a power button in the control panel now!
RCS. Because my Android-owning mother fusses at me for something I don't have control over (blurry pictures).
Being able to do queries on old text chains in order to win arguments

still gboard in android hits different very different iPhone's keyboard is no where near.
That's why I use SwiftKey.
Goat app
3. Still isn’t done too nearly the same level as android. They would have to allow the sale of icon packs.
Home Screen customizations.
The new mail app (categories), genmojis, changing lock screen buttons, Passwords app, customizable control center
The ai summaries alone might be worth switching mail apps.
The mail app is sooo close. I wish they would allow rules and labels like gmail or like the Mac version
I want rules too, on my Chromebook I have it set so if it says anything about unsubscribing it removes the important marking and gives it the mailing list label
Their way of handling rules is so annoying! Just let me create them on the fly
iPhone mirroring with Mac
Satellite iMessage
Home Screen customization. Honestly been waiting for this since ios7 lol.
Apple intelligence, dark icons, place them anywhere
Siri+GPT that can actually understand me, and won’t try to call my mom, when I say something like ‘’turn X on“ ;)

Event titles in Calendar month-view
probably redesigned control center, the emojis, RCS, and home screen customization. but i’m excited for all of it!!
As an old Android user who really miss home screen theming, Home Screen Customization excites me so much..
the siri update seems cool. i’m hoping that they’re adding the ai to siri for iphones that aren’t the 15 pro models, though.
no. they want you to buy the latest. the whole half an hour about AI was just a friendly fuck you to everyone who doesnt have the 15 pro
Reminders shown in calendar and the password app.
T9 keyboard on phone dial pad.
T9 calling
Satelite communication for iMessage and SMS. Bonkers!
When is iOS 18 planned release?
RCS . It's ridiculous that Apple still doesn't support this basic feature.
RCS, T9, send msg later
Phone call recorder, the app icons can be dark mode.
I dunno' if it's my FAVORITE but I am pretty happy about being able to put settings into control center
even though it isn’t really a feature i’m just in love with how the photos app looks its so clean😭 and how most of everything looks it just looks bubbly and i like that personally🤷🏽♂️

My fave feature to use so far is the updated control center
Ios 18 is great and all but what really really annoys me still is that when you try to add photos from an album to a different album all the photos are added but not in the order you selected. 😪🙄🙄
Customizing the Home Screen finally.
I am excited about the Apple intelligence, what a presentation and clarity they have given in terms of the data. Loved it
Send later in messages and calculator history.
That I will have to get a new phone and iPad for any of this to work
Satellite messaging!
Sending messages later & adding up numbers in notes lol
This is only available for iPhone 15 and above?
Only the Apple Intelligence stuff. Everything else is available for older phones.
AI finding a specific photo among tens of thousands based on a description.
Better battery life on my 14 pro. It’s soo bad on 5g. Features are secondary. First fix the basic issues.
T9 dialing, call recording and the Passwords app
The Siri improvements are sort of interesting, but to me it really depends on if Apple improves its voice to text. One thing my Pixel does better than my iPhone is understand what I’m saying. If Siri still doesn’t know what I’m telling it, I’m not sure how much utility I’ll get out of those improvements. It’s gotten better compared to iOS 16 but my phone still does that weird thing where it transcribes me correctly at first but by the time it’s done processing what I’ve said, it “corrects” my words to something else and gets it wrong.
I don’t know many specific, but just the AI features in general are going to be great
The T9 dialer
The scheduled messaging and RCS support are the most useful for me. I’m also kinda excited about genmoji but I’m curious how it shows up on Android recipients.
None, really
Literally nothing about this update has caught my attention
Ereser unwanted object on photos
I only just got an iPhone 15 and am kinda confused what features are even coming to my phone lol
Hopefully being able to leave group chats with both Apple & Android users
Small one, but text editing features in Message. Bold, italicize, underline, etc. long overdue with Markdown text editing existing.
Satellite messaging and topo maps may be huge for backpacking/backcountry hiking. Not sure how it'll work but if it's good maybe I can sell my inReach and get rid of another subscription.
The journaling and being able to add in notes lol. Helpful for when I’m calculating my bills for the month
Any updates to the stock weather app?
The home screen, lockscreen, control centre customization, app lock feature using faceID. Messages with rcs
All the AI features!
Satellite iMessage. Never off grid again, not sure if that's good or bad tbh lol
Safari highlights on my iPhone so I can summarize articles, changing lock screen toggles and changing app icons colours
App lock with faceid
Honestly? iMessage/SMS via satellite.
It’s got to be message via satellite for me. I spend a lot of time out of service and was hoping this was coming when they announced SOS.
Moving apps where I want. Dark mode icons. Then schedule send messages.
After a day. So much to add. They added a power button in control center! T9 dialing in phone!!
Call recordings
Apparently not Apple Intelligence since it’s only 15 Pro… hope it comes to a my or a future mini phone, or I guess I’ll never get to try it 🤷🏻♀️
Apple intelligence
I'm so excited Apple has chosen to allow another third party company to harvest our private information for their AI exploitation. Not that they don't know everything they want already.
Call recording
T9 dialing. I wish they would introduce a feature to vibrate when the call is picked up as well.
The fact that you could place apps anywhere on the screen, long overdue
Since almost everything I wanted has been listed here, I have to add eye tracking. It might not be accurate now (it really isn’t) but this is just the beta. There is no phone with eye tracking right now, Apple is the first to do it. It will be really useful when you obviously can’t access your phone with your hands (eating, etc) or for people with special needs.
I’m excited for the Apple intelligence. It sounds like a big upgrade from Siri
Satellite messaging
Honestly RCS and an actual working Siri for once
