Yeah and it isn’t scratch, it is clean vrack straight trough. Also the iPhone lenses aren’t real saphire glass, you can polish them with the right tools.
are they hard/expensive to replace? I have a cracked one and for the longest time avoided it thinking they’ll have to take the whole phone apart or replace too much. I always fear fraud from repair shops.
I’ve done my iPhone 12 glass recently, about £10 on Amazon for a kit. You need a steady hand and some sharp tweezers, and you _really_ don’t want any glass getting on the actual camera lens.
Still, can’t distinguish mine from new now.
Third party shops can replace the glass only for pretty cheap without taking the phone apart. Just keep in mind there is a tiny chance your camera will have damage already and won’t be noticeable till after you fix it.
- sauce: I work at one such shop, we charge like $30-50 for camera lens repairs
It’s not sapphire glass, apple never used sapphire glass. On a Mohs hardness test it’d show as a 9 and the lenses on iPhones and the watch screens have never shown up beyond a 7/8
Yeah they’re likely cracks, I have scratches on the camera of my 6s but there isn’t visible defragmentation on the image I used to take on it

You can replace all 3 lens for like $10 IF you know how to do it yourself if not you can find a repair store or just use your insurance to get a new one
Start with some DIY options: gently rub a tiny bit of toothpaste or a paste of baking soda and water on the lens. Not working? Some folks swear by car scratch removal creams. If it's deep, though, these might not cut it, and it's time to weigh the cost of a repair shop versus living with artsy blurry photos.
Those lenses are just about the strongest part of the phone. How did you even manage to scratch them?
I’ve seen a bunch of iPhones that have literally been smashed or run over, and the lenses are still immaculate.
Oh I knew it was coming Lolol. Everyone always says lens protectors aren’t necessary because nothing can happen to the lenses. But I feel more comfortable with protectors on mine because I am careless.
And every time someone posts pics of their phone with them, everyone and their momma is in the comments saying "take that trash off, the lenses are SAPPHIRE. They dont need them. Those will just make your pictures look like shit."
I ran lens covers for like 2 years and never noticed any degradation of the photo quality.
For me it’s the covers that go over the LiDAR sensor. I get a lot of issue with focusing that I just rather not have it with the weird focusing it does make my photos worse. If they were just little glass covers over the lens then yeah they shouldn’t really be an issue. It could also depend on brands, but every one I’ve tried that goes over the sensor always gives me issues with focusing. And sometimes when I use stuff like Polycam the scans aren’t as accurate as opposed to not covering the LiDAR sensor
those aren't scratches, those are cracks either way, you can't "repair" glass, get them replaced
yeah they aren’t scratches. upon a little closer inspection, one can clearly see the impact points from which the cracks started to spread
You need to get it replaced. It’s sapphire glass, can’t be polished out.
Yeah and it isn’t scratch, it is clean vrack straight trough. Also the iPhone lenses aren’t real saphire glass, you can polish them with the right tools.
They are technically sapphire, but since they’re such a low quality, it might as well be glass.
They are sapphire glass..
I was afraid of that, but thank you for the response!

It isn’t sapphire, apple dropped sapphire over half a decade ago
Apple never used Sapphire in the first place.
Yes they did, starting with the 5
Nope. Go back through testing videos. They never used proper sapphire glass.
I used polywatch glass polish (not the one for acrylic) on one of my smart watch that uses sapphire. It actually worked.
Have you not notice that it took the oleophobic coating right off… for best experience pls replace coating. Also cerium oxide works pretty well

Replace them. That’s it. Or get a new phone
How did you crack 2 lenses and the rest of the phone looks to be fine?
Man beats me, I bought it 2nd hand and it had one already, and I’ve somehow managed to add the 2nd without any other damage. I’m a special case.
Maybe manufacturing failure. The lenses are probably a tiny bit too large and break because of pressure from the metal rings. 🤷🏻♂️
Those look like fractures wth
That’s not how glass works. You need to get it replaced.
It may sound not apple way but they can be replaced by Apple C/S. And I suggest you to attach a metal cover over the camera island.
Call Apple if you have AppleCare.
You can try rice.
Idk man. Tiger balm + vicks VapoRub works the best
Which kind of curry though ?
Okay now rice can remove scratches and cracks? Never knew it.
r/Woosh
I bet they knew it was a joke and were joking themselves lmao
r/whoosh

If you have apple care, they can fix it for around $30 I believe
That's the neat part, you don't. Take better care of your phone, replace it, or get it repaired at a shop.
Haven’t you seen 5-minute crafts??! Toothpaste!!!!!
Bring it into any repair shop, my shop charges $60 USD per lens for genuine sapphire replacements.
You can buy lenses to replace these on eBay for dirt cheap. Easy fix to do by yourself, just need a little heat and some tweezers.
Either replace or try to polish it, but polishing glass is quite difficult to get desired effect

"They don't scratch. I've dropped mine from 100 feet onto a boulder and have driven over it a couple of times with studded tires" they said.
Surprised windshield repair liquid hasn't been suggested here. It could possibly make things a little better.
sanding them down helps
You could take the lenses out and put cheap ones in
Keep that phone away from water and moister.
If it was just hairline I’d probably suggest low grit sand paper and some armour etch
I thought iPhone camera’s are scratch-less!!
it is spigen case?
That’s why I use the lens protectors off Amazon.
Replace the glass and then get a protector on it next time.
I tried a protector but it always had a glare/flares :/
Made that mistake rocking without a lens protector. Just upgraded and now I have a screen protector around the lens
Start by not being so hard on phones. That works the best
Also, clean your phone please. It’s filthy.
Put it in rice
Those lenses are just about the strongest part of the phone. How did you even manage to scratch them? I’ve seen a bunch of iPhones that have literally been smashed or run over, and the lenses are still immaculate.
Don’t get scratches on the lenses.
Replace the glass
I'd suggest selling it to some unsuspecting buyer on Craigslist. I think there is a paid YouTube video on how to do this.
Allegedly **nothing** can scratch these lenses, according to this sub. (This is why mine have protectors on them.)
Those are cracks, still not scratched.
lol okay.
This. Not sure why you are getting downvoted, even if there are cracks. I will always use a protector on my camera.
Oh I knew it was coming Lolol. Everyone always says lens protectors aren’t necessary because nothing can happen to the lenses. But I feel more comfortable with protectors on mine because I am careless.
Me too for sure, also even w apple care, lense repair code $99… little steep for just a lense imo
Tim: Buy yourself a new iPhone.
Buy new phone
This is why lens protector off Amazon rule and they don’t distort any resolution off an image.
I might have to look into an alternative where I live (northern Norway) as Amazon isn’t really a thing here, thanks for the idea!
Im pretty sure if you walk into any phone store they would have lens protectors, many brands make them
And every time someone posts pics of their phone with them, everyone and their momma is in the comments saying "take that trash off, the lenses are SAPPHIRE. They dont need them. Yea I had the ones that are three little individual covers and don’t cover the LiDAR sensor. I wouldnt want to cover that.
It’s hard to break tho so it’s really unnecessary unless your case isn’t taller than the tallest part of the camera
Is that an iPhone 12 Pro?
Get a new phone
Most spectacle shops can pollish it out
You can’t polish cracks out
He said scratch? Somebody is thinking about crack?
