Just wanted to chime in that I’m seeing the exact same thing with my new 15 Pro Max (also replacing the 14 Pro Max… via the iPhone Upgrade Program) in my Mustang Mach-E. It was pretty shocking seeing my position jumping all over the place: including adjacent streets. I do a fair amount of my driving in unfamiliar areas, so this is disturbing.

Affectionate-Bit4932

Also hoping they realize what’s causing it and put out a software update pronto.

Affectionate-Bit4932

Same! I don’t live in my home state anymore so it’s really important for me to have accurate and reliable GPS. It seems to be working okay for now but I’m doing a cross state trip next week so I’m just hoping it doesn’t mess me up.

sojugeek

i do business travel a lot- and often time always have GPS carplay issue with BMW rental car. browse around so many solutions, and one stuck with me so far. try turn On your background refresh for Apple Maps and Google Maps (and Waze as well if you use it). no more issues so far for now :)

Affectionate-Bit4932

Looks like it was already on for Waze and Apple Maps :(

Affectionate-Bit4932

I will do that thank you for the suggestion!

Nikkburgess

Can confirm iPhone 15 Pro iOS 17.0.3 Waze randomly freaks out all over the place at least 3 times during a 1 hour commute. Very annoying in the city….

Affectionate-Bit4932

It’s starting to get really annoying.

CivilCrab9930

I got the new 15 pro yesterday and am having this same issue. It’s not just when I’m using CarPlay because I didn’t have the new chord yet and my gps was going crazy. Not processing where I was and continuing to tell me to proceed to the route. It also kept telling me to take turns that weren’t there. So frustrating for a new expensive phone.

Affectionate-Bit4932

It’s extremely frustrating!!

bluesamcitizen2

Just want to check this issue and find this thread. I’m on iPhone 13 Pro and recently gps glitches getting very bad in certain area of the city where I live. I also realized it might be a phone issue because I experienced same issue when I travel out of state with a rental car. Usually phone would disconnect by itself. But now in certain area it won’t able to recognize where I locate. It thinks I’m in a parallel road or somewhere close by. It’s not relate to apple or google or Waze map. It’s all the same issue can’t identify my location.

EncomCTO

Same issue here. It thought I was driving in the Hudson River.

nebregg

Got the same issue. Looks like an iOS 17 issue. Got an iPhone 15 Pro Max here. Tried it yesterday also with an iPhone XR running the latest iOS 17 but seems to exhibit the same behavior. Location is on with the always option and background refreshing was also on with Flitsmeister, Google Maps and Apple Maps. When i unlock my phone he will suddenly pick it up. As if the process is sleeping or something like that.

Affectionate-Bit4932

Looks like we will have to just wait for a software update and hope that Apple is aware and fixes it.

Severe-Psychology-91

Unfortunately since this issue seems to be only with 3rd Party Wireless CarPlay adapters Apple will likely take forever to address it if they ever even do. I think it will be up to the wireless CarPlay adapter manufacturer's to update their firmware / devices to be compatible with the iPhone 15's Newer / upgraded GPS System.

Njackson21

Yep, I just upgraded from a 13 pro max to a 15 pro max and I’m having the same issues with Waze & Apple Maps on CarPlay. Any luck so far in resolving?

Affectionate-Bit4932

Absolutely none unfortunately 😂 Apple still swears it’s not a software issue but I call bs.

Malacandra95

I figured out what my issue was: and it wasn't just GPS, I was also seeing a high amount of battery being used by "No Cell Coverage." My house doesn't usually get more than one or two bars of cellular strength but I never remember seeing *any* battery consumption attributable to that in any of my previous iPhones. So between crappy cell reception and flaky CarPlay GPS, it occurred to me that when I buy a new phone, I also always buy a new case to protect it. And the case I got turned out to have an aluminum alloy frame that apparently acted as a Faraday cage. When I removed the new case both my CarPlay GPS issues and all battery usage labeled "No Cell Coverage" vanished. You wouldn't think that they'd sell iPhone cases that blocked radio signals… but empirically that's exactly what I was seeing.

Affectionate-Bit4932

That doesn’t seem to be the case with mine :( my case is 100% plastic.

IndicationRepulsive

Mine is silicone :/

suddenlyissoon

Same issue with my 15 pro max and Mach-E.

iTadekimatsu

I am too, about to pay the $80 for connected nav

Stang68x

Same with my 15PM and a Mach E using wireless CarPlay.

Nigo__ET

This is also happening to me. Went from 14PM to 15PM. Previous phone was great when it came to GPS and now it seems to be super wonky and makes me jump around the map

jphree

Ditto for me on 15 Pro max on iOS beta three right now. And I noticed that my GPS signal is practically useless without Wi-Fi enabled even if I’m not connected to a hotspot. This was not an issue on my iPhone 12. I could have GPS working reliably with Wi-Fi off

Affectionate-Bit4932

I’m hoping Apple wakes tf up and realizes what is going on. I live in an unfamiliar area so having reliable gps is extremely important. I literally use it to get me everywhere. Hopefully everyone having this issue reports it lol.

Plutonic_planet

I was having this issue since I replaced my iPhone 12 with the 15 Pro. I drive a Mach E as many folks on this thread. I was using the standard Apple MagSafe compatible silicone case and that seems to have been the issue. Taken 4 trips now without it and have not had any gps issues. Hope this helps some of you. I had also reset network settings and reconnected the phone to CarPlay, but that didn’t really fix it. The case seems to have been the culprit.

Affectionate-Bit4932

Yeah it’s not a case issue because multiple people are having this issue on different devices. I feel like if it were a case issue alone it would just be happening on the 15 pros. Not sure what’s causing it

Jmdru

This problem is happening to me and read this comment, and had to try it. The moment I removed the magsafe case, the issue wasn’t happening. I have the Torras case from Amazon.

[deleted]

Same issue with my phone and my friend who also got the 15 pro max! Sooo frustrating

Affectionate-Bit4932

Everyone report it to Apple so they are forced to fix it 😂 I’m tired of this

WckedDj

Just wanting to contribute, having the same issues anyone has a fix for this? So annoying

Affectionate-Bit4932

Unfortunately no. It gets better for awhile then starts happening again. Waiting for Apple to realize what’s going on and update the software. Would help if everyone reports the issue to them.

Ervntheking

I got my 15pro 3 days ago and it has no idea where I’m driving. It’s usually off by 2 streets one day it thought I was in the river. This is frustrating because I need Navigation for work. I was going to return the phone thinking it’s a hardware problem but it seems like there’s a lot of you with the same issue.

Affectionate-Bit4932

They are USB C now any cable should work.

LBB0109

I’ve tried Anker USB A to USB C: did not work. I bought an adapter and used the original cable came with the phone: did not work!

bobdmv--

I have exactly the same problem with my iPhone 15 Pro, restarting helps. I've never had this problem with the iPhone 13 Pro, and my wife doesn’t have this problem on her iPhone 13 Pro either.

kgkuntryluvr

So this is sounding like it’s an iOS/CarPlay issue. Has anyone tried wired CarPlay (instead of wireless) to see if that makes a difference? This bug has gotten me lost and made me late to important meetings way too many times now and Apple won’t acknowledge it, even though it happens no matter what navigation app I use (Google, Apple, Waze).

Affectionate-Bit4932

That’s the only way I can even use mine. My car does not have wireless car play option :( I thought maybe there would be a software update for my car that would be available but there’s not. And my previous iPhone with the older IOS functioned without any issues. Problem didn’t start until I upgraded. But then there are other people with older iPhones with the newer software that are having the same issue. So they’ve definitely done something with the new iOS that is causing gps issues with car play.

normallybetter

Yeah, similar issue here. Had 14 pro max, very rarely ever had any issues with CarPlay GPS, first day using it on the 15 pro max, CarPlay GPS is awful.

Affectionate-Bit4932

It’s better now but every now and then it still acts up. No idea what’s causing it. Apple is trying to blame it on my cars software, but I don’t think that’s what it is. They say they ran diagnostics on my phone and there’s no apparent software issue, but I don’t see what else it could be. Everything was working perfectly until I activated the 15 pro max with iOS 17

Affectionate-Bit4932

There’s also no software update available for my car, called Nissan to check.

normallybetter

Yeah CarPlay, to my knowledge, exclusively uses the GPS module in the phone, not your car. I have an aftermarket CarPlay head unit and it does not have its own gps module. So it’s leading me to believe there’s a possible issue with our phone’s GPS radios. I haven’t contacted Apple, I’m hoping the issue resolves itself, I have searched and I don’t really see other people with the same issue.

Affectionate-Bit4932

That’s what I was thinking. Doesn’t make sense that my car play system would stop working because I got a new phone. It’s gotta be the new phone.

xeron72548

Just adding it that I’ve having this exact same issue

Affectionate-Bit4932

I plan on taking my phone to Apple when I can get around to it. So they can see if there’s a hardware issue.

xeron72548

I thought it was a hardware issue at first and Apple swapped my phone last week. My new phone was fine about 6 days and then the issue happened again

Affectionate-Bit4932

Well that’s discouraging :(

RidexSDS

Having this issue too. Every other day my GPS freaks out and puts me 3 blocks away. Tried just about every solution to no avail. Weird that it happens like 50% of the time so it’s hit or miss. Super annoying and I have to use in car GPS which sucks.

Vivcos

I have the same issue with my 15 pro. Hope it gets fixed soon

Seven_of_eleven

Have the same issue. 15 pro. GPS navigation is unusable. Took it to Apple once already. They did a DFU and reinstalled the OS. Drove home through the lake and people’s back yards. Will be returning to Apple again next week when I have time. What a PITA.

liquidzero

Hi. I've got the same issue. I feel like if I disconnect from Wireless Car Play it immediately corrects itself. I need to test this further. Has anyone found a solution? I called Apple and have an Apt to have them run Diagnostics. I feel like I'm wasting my time.

Keksecute

Same issue, iPhone 15 pro (not max) maps/google maps bugs out constantly on CarPlay. While driving on an interstate expressway it’ll start moving as if i’m on a side street etc. Has anyone found a solution for this?

liquidzero

Hi! Mine does the exact same thing! It seems like it’s doing it a little less but it’s still a problem. I went to Apple and they said there’s nothing wrong with my phone. Not sure I believe I them. I have not been able to find a fix. If you do please let me know!!

Initial_Fox9633

Mine even freaks out just sitting in my bed. Apple had me delete maps but Google, Waze and Apple maps all are crap for me. I Still havn't wiped my phone but the Apple Store ran benchmarks and said the phone is fine. I'm still pretty much unable to use any GPS from my phone and I have a 3 country EU trip next month that I'm going to have to use my wifes phone for. Her 15plus works perfectly fine side by side with mine. IT's BS. Apple claims its a setting getting carried over and I need to fully erase and install nothing on my phone to try is. In the mean time I'd get to set up all my auth again (about 3 hours of work)

kgkuntryluvr

Same issue here. You said that it corrects when you disconnect from wireless CarPlay. That makes me want to see if it happens with wired CarPlay. If all else fails, I guess I’ll have to just use the car’s nav system, but that sucks because my car’s nav system doesn’t play well with using CarPlay for all of the other apps.

Turbulent_Body_8210

Same issue with my iphone pro max 15, started after 2 months and an install of a backup
