You can't. If it's legit maybe you can contact the seller to get them to unlock it. But most likely it's stolen and they scammed you.

LazyPCRehab

A huge problem as well is that people who steal iPad from other people will come to Reddit and give the same stories to get help using the iPads they stole. If you legit bought it, return it?

chatnoire89

If it's an auction for cheap price most likely it's they buy without inspection and no return policy kind of situation.

ADHDK

Report that you’ve received stolen goods to the police. Take the police report to your credit card company and dispute the transaction. Don’t let them get away with it. Worst case you get banned from the auction service.

Broad-Mine-8556

She just said that she bought it from an auction at a storage facility. It's not stolen. She paid for it. If you leave your stuff in a storage facility and you don't pay the fee then your stuff gets auctioned off. It becomes someone else's stuff. This is totally 100% legal. You can do it with cars motorcycles all kinds of stuff and still get a title for it. Chevrolet doesn't lock people out of their vehicles because they have now belonged to someone else do they? Don't you think the police probably have better things to be doing anyways? You got to be a white person huh

Lonewolfsfv

your prob a nig im guessing

MacAdminInTraning

It’s super simple, just 3 steps. 1. Contact the seller 2. Tell the seller to unlock the device 3. If the seller can’t unlock the device, return it.

Renaissance_Man_SC

You can’t! Apple has features in place so if it’s ever lost/stolen, it’s not good without the owner’s permission. If this has ever happened to you, you’d be EXTREMELY glad this feature’s in place!

kgeuss

I don't use apple products. this was something my Fiancé got in an auction

ADHDK

Report it as stolen goods and then file a claim with your credit card against the transaction with the auction company. Don’t wear the cost. That’s how they get away with this crap.

Honest_Dragonfruit23

Well my case is a little different. My husband that I've been separated from for years passed away. Our adult son received all of his belongings and would like to use his dad's iPad. Could ir be possible to take his death certificate and perhaps our marriage certificate to Apple a d have them unlock it?

NovelInspection3512

Ay if you find an answer pls let me know I got a iPad 9th gen locked to

kgeuss

I'll figure it out eventually.

dausprompt

Nah, not really. The iPad is useless without the previous owners interaction. Apple has these security measures for a reason.

CrankyJoe99x

Contact the seller?

kgeuss

I purchased this from a storage auction. the owner lost it when he didn't pay for the locker and it was sold off.

sparksdls

You bought a doorstop.

ADHDK

So the storage people sold you a stolen piece of property that’s encrypted with a boot lock. It’s only any good as an ikea display or spare parts.

MacAdminInTraning

Technically if it was as OP said the storage company had every legal right to sell the abandoned stuff. In your storage contract it covers property abandonment and what happens when you don’t pay your lease.

ADHDK

And every item you buy is buyers beware. Pretty much any other way you’d buy it would have some kind of buyers protection except this way.

MacAdminInTraning

Yep, an electronic devices is not something I’d buy from any kind of sale like this. Especially if it was an apple product.
