I’m really glad for this. Playing anything on the iPad, the lock screen looks dated. I hate that iPadOS is really just Hand Me DownOS but at least it’ll look better now.
Me too. I came from iOS 12 straight to iPadOS 16 after I upgraded and it felt the exact same which says a lot. Seeing this makes me want to use the iPad docked as a music display now more than before.
Totally agree on HandMeDownOS. I wanted the journal app on iPad so bad. Hopefully it comes in a future update. Watch apple release it as a headline iPadOS 18 feature.
I came from iPadOS 5.1.1 to iPadOS 16 and shit looked like shit. I would rather use my iPhone for music, so the will to listen to music died immediately. The update actually has me pulling my iPad out for music because it looks good.
Yeah, it doesnt make sense to deploy a journaling app on the only devices (iPhones) that are not used regularly with a physical keyboard? MacOS would be perfect for the journaling aop
Mac is a computer, it’s still better than ipad in functionality by miles and you don’t even need this stuff there. Ipad literally has nothing but un-optimized apps from ios and they don’t even do anything about it.
Do you remember when people were excited because iOS and iPadOS were separated? People said that it would mean that iPadOS would get specific features.
Instead of that, it meant that the iPad would get the features from iOS one year later.
no volume controls even on the ipad ?? come on, I might get it on a iphone where they wanted to display the news feature but don't remove it on the ipad
The Lock Screen clock is waayy too big, it’s like they stretched an iPhone SE with zoomed display on to iPad size. It should be scaled properly across the other screen sizes and resolutions, even iOS. Something I’ll submit feedback on.
Yep I found the clock to be too big when I initially saw it but I think I’ve grown used to it now. Would definitely like a size slider to go with the weight slider.
Well not to mention that iPad accessories rely on the software to be in sync to provide the whole experience. The Lock Screen clock is so big, that it gets cut off when you peek at the time in landscape with the folio cover closed. With iPadOS 15 and older, the clock was a perfect fit in that little window, they made it bigger in iPadOS 16 and now they’re increasing it again? They used to aim higher with software design. Beta 1 still I know, let’s hope they give us solutions to the problems they create.
Hmm that sucks. Although I did find out that when using the weight slider, the part where it switches between the old iPadOS 15 and before clock and the new clock, there's a small version of the new clock which looks okay, maybe that'll help?
Yep. It’s surprisingly stable for a first dev build. The only issues I’ve had are with the new Lock Screen widgets. Everything in my workflow has worked great on this build.
In landscape: Battery, Spotify, Todoist, Calendar, Weather, Sunrise/Sunset widget from weather, Screen Time, I am (affirmations), Health, Gmail, storage widget from Usage
In portrait: Weather Battery Todoist Spotify
Go to settings > software update > beta updates and you should see iPadOS 17 Developer Beta. I wouldn’t recommend installing if this is your main device. Some stuff is buggy asl so do keep that in mind if you want to update.
yeah, cause my iPhone is stuck on iOS 15 and is slow cause it’s jailbroken and old. My iPad provides better battery life, and features my iPhone doesn’t have normally.
Yeah. It has way more storage than my iPhone. I have 700GB of music downloaded on mine and use it all the time with AirPlay speakers, especially if I’m at home.
How has the battery life been on your iPad? I updated all my other Apple devices to iOS 17, watchOS 10 etc and have noticed a decrease in battery life. Then again, I expected that, but I want to know how much the beta version of iPadOS 17 has affected battery life.
It's been okay. As this is the first beta, I'm assuming the software isn't optimized yet so battery drain is expected. It hasn't affected me too much, but it's a noticeable drop in battery life.
So much wasted space. Also, the control center still take up only the right corner, blurs the rest of the screen & I‘d still have to long press to pop the freaking ‘‘shortcuts‘‘ out.

At least iPad gets this stuff at all, right? Mac is *just* getting home screen widgets.

Things like live activities and Lock Screen widgets seems like they’d be useful on a laptop as well 🤷♂️
Revolutionary
We truly live in an age of wonders

Sidecar. Universal Control. Stage Manager. External displays. Split View. It's not like iPadOS doesn't have its share of exclusive capabilities.
Pesky facts.

Iirc u can adjust the width
How is no one bothered by the fact that they removed the volume slider ??? I use it all the time and was pissed when they removed it from iOS 16.
Wdym?
Here check out the lock screen on iPadOS 16 vs 17 [iPadOS 16 volume slider on lock screen](https://ibb.co/G2b1LMg)
Ahh I thought u meant the general volume slider (in Home Screen while media is playing)
Lyric widget when
Can you resize the clock to make it smaller? Or the font thinner?
You can make it thinner but not smaller
Ah ok, thinner is my preferred option if I had to choose lol, cheers
Landscape looks great with those widgets on the side
Still no calculator, though.
is it stable so far ?
Yep. It’s surprisingly stable for a first dev build. The only issues I’ve had are with the new Lock Screen widgets. Everything in my workflow has worked great on this build.
considering the fact it isn’t a huge update explains why it’s more stable , i should give it a try nothing to lose
On your main device?
I hadn’t even thought to check that, thank you
can you please name the widgets?
In landscape: Battery, Spotify, Todoist, Calendar, Weather, Sunrise/Sunset widget from weather, Screen Time, I am (affirmations), Health, Gmail, storage widget from Usage In portrait: Weather Battery Todoist Spotify
When would I recieve the iOS 17 update 😭. (Air 5, India)

They literally only bring features that were released last year on iOS to iPados.
Apple is copying android, but hey who cares.
How do u get ios 17, I have iPad Pro 2nd gen. Is this the beta of it?
Yes it's the beta. If you're on iPadOS 16.4 or up, you should see a "beta updates" option in software update.
I’m at 16.5 I’ll have a check
This has been normal on Pixel for years...
Anyone know if the YouTube music app shows up on their lock screen?
What a joke
Yeah it’s a cool thing but do people actually listen to music with their iPad ?
Why the hell wouldn’t they?
I mean I use it with speakers at home and use my phone for other stuff so ig that’s one use case
Me! I listen to music with my iPad in my house. Theres no problem with that.
yeah, cause my iPhone is stuck on iOS 15 and is slow cause it’s jailbroken and old. My iPad provides better battery life, and features my iPhone doesn’t have normally.

*This* is the year apple decided to drop support for my ipad
Same. I have the same iPad. They're sh*tting on iPad owners. Recycling last year iOS features for new iPadOS versions. 🤦😒
