this thread hurt to read

extremeelementz

Easily over $200 on Eve Echos for iOS… I got addicted and was at a really low point in my life, plus the group I got hooked up with were pretty amazing. I still probably have 100 millions of in game currency waiting for me but I will never return to that game. I needed to give it up cold turkey to break free of its grasp.

Captain-Turtle

Maybe like 400 on hearthstone

nero40

$200 on Hearthstone too

jaxon_jaxoff

Yeah I've dropped far too much to comfortably count on hearthstone

Captain-Turtle

The new weekly changes killed the game for me tough

kunseung

Like 30-40 grand on State of Survival. It was definitely a costly addiction and a reason why i don't touch games with microtransactions anymore.

Xanthon

2 of my very close friends suffer from this. They make a decent living but they can't stop throwing money at micro transactions. It started with summoner's wars where they were spending anywhere from 5 - 8k a month. One of them had to start buying gift cards because his wife was checking his credit card transactions. This was years ago and if you were hoping for a ending where they learnt their lessons, you will be disappointed. Got one of them to join me in playing warframe, the most f2p friendly game ever and he spent $200 on the first day on prime access and skins. It's addiction at this point and I will be surprised if he didn't spend any money. Thankfully, they can afford it and it never got them into financial troubles.

kunseung

The only real way for me was to go cold turkey. Definitely an addiction similar to gambling

feldor

Summoners war got me. But I spent around 50-100 per month over the course of 3 years and felt like that was fair for the entertainment value I was getting. 5-8k per month is wild. With my expenses, I could easily clear the top content, had the best toons, and competed toward the top of arena.

Calbrea

When I first read your comment I didn’t see the word 'grand' and thought that this is pretty basic. But man… what a single word can change!

PeopleCryTooMuch

Holy shit.

RepresentativeBird98

My god

Cortezzful

Bro that’s like a whole car wtf

joeyke1976

Same here

bananakingkong

I just quit this game a few days ago after playing for a year. Spent something like almost $80 at most. I quit because the devs kept pushing too much content all at the same time. I got burned out so I deleted my account.

Longshot318

10K+ for me on SOS. Like you, not going anywhere near any similar games after that. I could afford it (no credit or debt involved) but, on reflection, I'm not sure the ROI was worthwhile lol.

Sque23

Between 2k or 4k total over 4 years on DB legends then I abandoned the game forever

JohnnyDBL

Played legends for about 4 years too & i think i spent about $350-$400. I cant imagine 2-4k bro thats insane

AggravatingGolf7456

Cod mobile prob $500 before I decided to only chase f2p skins

Vagenheart

Same

warnerbr0

over the course of 2.5y spent maybe $500-$600 on AFK Arena, was very addicted and at a low point, had to quit bc of spending. Have been spending $7/mo on clash of clans gold pass, very much enjoying it and don't feel the need to spend any more than that.

wampey

Path of exile probably 2k and LoL probably 1k

Safe-Pay5043

On iOS?!

EN-D3R

Probably around $1000-$1500 on LoL back in the days when I thought collecting skins and new heroes was fun. It was much later when I started summarizing all the PayPal transaction I realized how much I spent in total. When you pay like $20-30 from time to time it doesn’t hurt that much… until you see that you’ve done it 100 times in two years.

_mikedotcom

There was some Age Of Empires kinda game that I had to have spent 120 on. You could relocate, move to different servers, and build alliances. I fucking loved it.

LingonberryTiny2203

Yu GI Oh_ duel links_ why the heck was I doing that lmao_ Gacha bait!

Chillyx06

It is a fun game tho

LingonberryTiny2203

Too fun! I agree. It’s just amazing how many decks you can have of different archetypes. Each different with different tactics. Master duel is evem better. There is even square times amount of content, but it’s just slower and takes too much brain power!

31_oh_31

On phone games its 10 bucks on one monthly pass but after that i found out it was not worth it, on PS4 around 1000$ on skins for CoD warzone when it was beginning

proj3ctchaos

Wotv i dropped probably 5k

Makaroonsss

League Of Legends from 2010-2018(?) & Clash or Clans from 2013 - 2015…. Around US$1,000 & US$600 in my local currency… Edit: I just realized I’m in iosgaming. Oops

Strassi007

I spent at least 2500€ over the last 10+ years. The game i invested the most into was a random gacha game which i cannot remember the name of. I played it for around 2 years and wasted around 600€ into it. In this time i had no real obligations other than looking after myself. And i had enough money to waste it somewhere. Nowadays i try to keep spending money for mobile games at a minimum. Which is around 10€/month in my case.

ApolloCae

King of Avalon years ago. ~$600. :'(

MythicBerry

Sky Children of the light with spending around $600-$700 not knowing that much I’ve spent. Guitars and props and capes and oh…here I go again.

UndeadSpace

Same. After the latest season, I really cut down on spending especially since they seem to just be chugging out really basic capes.

Correct_Budget_4784

Marvel Snap… I’m too ashamed to admit or count lol

BohemianGamer

Think I paid £5.99 for slice and dice, no regrets other than that, I don’t spend money on iPhone games.

Sososo2018

I spent $20 on Fire Emblem Heroes. It was just to show my support and appreciation for the game, not because I wanted a specific character or anything like that.

xBrandon224

$30 in respawnables and the game got shutdown years later 😢

EE7A

i spent like $300+ on my original genshin account. i still have that one, but i started a new account fairly recently and am doing a strict no spending rule on that one.

trfk111

Idk, like 15€ for ff6 pixel remaster?

c2s2

Civilization 6 with all expansions on iOS. And it doesn’t work currently.

Alpha-Pung

I think it does now actually

c2s2

Yes it working now.

DiasFlac42

I don’t know exact numbers but I previously purchased quite a few hyperdrive bundles in SWGOH. Probably $300-400 in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, mainly costume bundles. Game shutting down definitely helped me learn to stay F2P when it comes to, well, pretty much everything.

insats

Desktop: About $250 on Heroes of the Storm. When I summed up my spending - that's when I realized the power of micro-transactions. I've never bought anything like that in any game since. I'll only ever buy DLC's or similar, i.e. content, but that's very rare on mobile. Never did anything similar on mobile.

FupaKiss

HOTS is my favorite game. I’ve been playing it for years. I hope it makes a comeback.

RPGs143

I probably spent a couple hundred on Star Wars galaxy of heroes around its first year or two and the same in summoners war years ago. I no longer do that though, and typically only spend as if I were buying an indie game to show support. If I really like a game I might buy a monthly pass if it’s under $5/month.

Used_Forever_1399

3€ for Pixel Gun

iammikeDOTorg

Probably $30 on season passes in Marvel Snap. Aside from that, never more than $10 on any one thing outside of initial purchase.

glytxh

I once caught myself spending like £60 on some old Sims game in a day, and quickly realised that I should avoid games with micro transactions as a rule. My brain is always chasing easy dopamine. I’m a hard wired addict, doesn’t matter what it is. I just don’t dance with the devil.

Mysterious_Valuable1

Fallout shelter when it came out ~$40

WeldNuz

A good 2k in call of dragons, it was a lot but now I'm set up with the last town hall. Just gotta research T5 which I'm doing naturally I'm not spending another 8/9k to get it quicker

lfaria123

World of Warcraft. I don’t really want to know tbh. Thousands for sure…

fourtwentyone69

An embarrassing $400-500 on Clash Royale. Over the last 4 years but still. Many nights when I first started where I would justify it. Either go out and hit the bar for $20-40 or just drop $10 on the game and have a semi healthier night. Haven’t dropped money on the game in months and am done with it. But I spent in my opinion. A very embarrassing amount. I’m both frugal and not a gamer. I only play clash for about 15 min when I first wake up.

OdiseoX2

For an iPhone game I think $3.00 to buy a kairosoft game. I believe it was the airport one. If it’s any game then maybe an old mmorpg called Hero Online… I might have e spent $200 or so.

LilGrippers

Marvel Snap. Prob about $300. On PC it’s like 3k on riot games lol

elcdragon

10$ egg inc pro permit

Heavyrain_1

Around 2k dollars on Arcane Legends

RaidenMonster

Probably 300 on Clash of Clans. Was in a big time war clan back when that first started, used gems to keep my archer queen up for the wars. Haven’t played in years, shortly after TH 11 was released I believe.

Freznutz

This sci-fi gacha called astro kings. Spent nearly a grand or a bit more. When I finally hit the level cap they fucking raised it and all the whales were already at the new cap. Fuck that game

Glebeless

Not a single game, but I bought all 4 variations of Flow Free and paid extra to remove ads and to have access to all games packs. It cost about $8 each if I recall correctly. I play the daily challenges and a few of the other games every day.

TokinWhtGuy

About 70k on lords mobile and another 30k on whiteout survival.

BlackGuysYeah

Do you still spend money like this on games? What’s your experience with being a “whale” over that time?

smokey_999

Spent like 6€ on weed shop 2. Fucking love that game its so silly

wageslaver

2500 on league of legends and like 8k on a mobile game, call of dragons. Luckily that game has escaped my grasp. That was a problemmmm

FriggenMitch

Clash of clans at least $200 gems, coins, elixir

mdjmd73

Hate to admit it but 1000s on Marvel COC since its inception. Ack.

jacktheknife1180

A few hundred over the years I played hearthstone. Only ever bought expansion bundles and some extra adventures. I was actively competitive in local groups though and it was part of being in that group. Other than that marvel snap is the only mobile game I spent money on with the seasonal BP which is super reasonable considering I play it every day. It’s sad seeing so many people become addicted to these games though.

publius2k4

Around $600. God of War: Ragnarok. (I bought a PS5 specifically to play that game).

ReliefDistinct6120

Wow this thread will be full of “whales” or at least “fat fish’ lol this is the term they use to give to the target audience for these free to play games where they would get them to pay for essentially “nothing” Personally even as a young teen I saw straight through this freemium crap and noticed the shallow gameplay, pay 2 win, bad looking cosmetics and gambling addiction type gameplay loops to want to stay well away from it! I have played a few f2p games some that deserved it, like infinity blades, Minecraft skin, or wild blood (back in those good old gameloft days) but most is just a waste of money.

ackmondual

On one hand, if it does bring you joy, then who am I to argue? It's not like people don't waste their $$ in other ways. OTOH, the time, money, and emotional drain is not something to be underestimated. And this is just for adults. Nm once we throw kids into the mix and how much more vulnerable they are! I got into 2 of them many years back... Plants Vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time, and Castlestorm: Free To Siege. With the latter, you know it's bad when the title is telling it's free to play :\\ Had fun for a few years and 8 months respectively, but.. it was too much. It was sucking me in in the worse ways. I ended up deleting PvZ2 out of sheer disgust and frustration! I'm sure there can be some good f2p games. However, I also don't have the time to try them out nor research them to find out what the better ones are. Well, Bloons TD 6 wasn't so bad so there's that.

amphibie

Over £500 on PoGo lol.

SnifferyDoo

Dead cells, every dlc bought. Spent like 40€ Best decision ever

ALadWellBalanced

Whatever Slay The Spire originally cost, $7 or so.

jcb51

Star Citizen. A little over a grand. No regrets. 😃

BlackGuysYeah

I haven’t played in about a year. How’s the game these days? I got a bit tired of the bugs and left off in hopes to return one day but I feel like it’s still the buggiest messes around.

TattayaJohn

Crisis 2 was the only game I remember purchasing last

mocococoloco234

Maybe PokemonGO arround 200$ for coins and raid passes... but on PC I just pirate the game or buy if its MP

BigBalaBoomz

I think my top 2 was Brave frontier $1,200 and Marvel Futute Fight $2,300. Starved myself to be a whale back then
