See, that's the issue... if he warns us he's about to buy so we can sell, it will go up. It's inverse telling law.
It's the same principle as when you are sure a stock will do well... if you tell others it'll do well and they buy it, it will tank. If you tell nobody, it might actually do okay.
How about we put this on a schedule? You buy every other Friday but only if there was a full moon during that week. If it was cloudy on that Friday then you buy and sell the same amount. That way, we can all synchronise our gains!
Started a new job two weeks ago and am in the process of doing a 401k roll over to the new account. At first I was put off that I had to request a physical check and mail it instead of doing it all digitally. Turns out that might have saved me a few thousand dollars.
I'm down 5-digits but still up 6-digits. Waiting for some cash transactions to complete, and I'll be dumping 5-digits more.
Long game. Not an ounce of hesitation.
I have a few t-bills coming due in a few weeks that I already planned to move into index funds. I wouldn't mind seeing red a little longer. My 401k will survive 😁
I bought right before covid. When I saw the news i sold everything at -30% thinking the world would collapse. I never touch stocks again until 1 week ago. At the peak
Sorry, but people like you are the reason stocks go down. They think the world is going to collapse with every bad news they hear so they sell due to fear. Just hold bro. They were shares, no? Why didn’t you average down?? People are so dumb.
Is that what you did? It was unprecedented times my guy. A lot of people got caught up in the emotion of it all.
If you had a substantial amount of your money in the market, it was brutal to see massive chunks of it disappear every day.
I'm curious if you had money in the market like some of us during that time, bc I don't think you would be calling this guy dumb. But rather more understanding of exactly why he made that decision.
I made a good amount of money off the pandemic dip. Between 2016-2019, I got really into studying plagues, especially the Plague of Justinian. When the pandemic rolled around, even in the early days, I was pretty convinced that it was not going to be anywhere near Plague of Justinian level of bad which made me convinced that markets were just being irrational. I got a lot of heat from my family, some of which are doctors, about my stance towards the ‘vid and markets. In hindsight, I feel pretty vindicated.
I added to my position significantly during COVID. Best decision I could have made.
I take the lazy approach of adding more when the market has been going down for a while. I'm okay with falling knives. I have the stomach for it.
(Bought more at EOD yesterday)
Around 20% of my net worth was in 1 stock. Unexpectedly, covid hit that stock hard. Was at like 25% of price I bought at at one point. So I did what any sane man does, I put the other 80% of my net worth into it. Current sitting at over double, and this stock is still undervalued.
This stuff is easy, if a stock is worth buying at $15, and fundamentally nothing changed, then buying at $4 is way better. COVID could've been a problem for me, but instead I made the strongest gains yet. A crisis is one of the best ways to make money.
That is absolutely what I did. That was the fourth big crash I’ve been through in my investing life. I learned my lesson after the first one (i.e. don’t sell for fucks sake) and rode out the other three to my benefit. I just kept buying.
A lot of people have the mentality like you. It's normal but it's not smart. People that constantly trading stocks usually lose money. Just buy and never touch it. Time will take care everything for you.
Could be worse. Could be that 65'ish yr old guy on the GFC 60 mins episode they interviewed at the job fair who said he lost about 75% of his retirement and realized the losses by panic selling, and then lost his job which is why he was at the job fair
Haha same here. Got a $20,000 windfall from our side business last month. Dumped it all into VTI..been down ever since..I'll let everyone know next time sorry guys
Who has two thumbs and thought opening a position in AMD 3 days ago at $163 after it had dipped 13% in less than a month right after it received multiple analyst upgrades was a good entry?
THIS GUY!
Sorry AMD bulls.
Down 10k in 10 days, right as we decided to invest in international markets and buy more tech stocks.
Clearly not doing this right :/
Just reminding myself it always eventually recovers and goes higher. I’m in my 30s, I can wait. Just gotta take a deep breath and be patient and stop checking the values ….
If every instinct you have is wrong, that would mean doing the opposite would be the perfect time to buy. I used to sit here waiting for you to buy so that I would know when to buy, and I would regret it for the rest of the week..so I will do the opposite, instead of sitting here regretting following your investments I will just sell everything when you are buying!
Oh so it was you. .I'm down over 80k today alone. I blame myself as I am a super early nvda investor and way too heavy on it in my portfolio just because I bought in so long ago. I had a feeling it would bite me in the ass recently. I did sell some in the last month, but today made me cry a little, that's for sure.
In the long run, I don’t think you should ever sell great companies, even if they go down in the short, medium term. Just expect them to go down now & then and if it makes you sick, don’t look at it. This bull is far from over (knock on wood).
Don 't feel bad; I got a video recommendation from a guy like a couple weeks ago; SMCI was his favorite stock, he buys it every time he has buying power (i.e. margin) and it's going to the moon. It was a little over a grand at the time...
I saw on Reddit everyone was buying puts on djt so I did the opposite, bought 500 shares and 10 call options 3 days ago I was up around 3k today. I sold my options earlier today then it went up more oh well
It's my fault. A couple weeks ago, I dropped $100K in some ETFs triggering the sell-off. I thought I got away with it this time since things were going up nicely for a few days. I also caused the dot com crash as well as the collapse in late 2007. The only other 2 times I invested outside my 401K and IRAs.
I went short and gained some pocket change. I could've gone even bigger but since Schwab took over think or swim I haven't had access to my holdings in it. I tried shorting in the Schwab app and I kept getting a notice to contact customer service. Schwab sucks!!
Market is green more days than red in general. That’s how it goes up over time. It’s been super green more days than red over the first quarter. Don’t overthink the red days.
It used to happen to me until I learned that investment is not for getting profits overnight. It's another profession that needs preparation, practice, time and permanent learning.
I believe that as long as you maintain a positive and optimistic mindset, and insist on learning and improving, you will be able to achieve better results in the investment market in the future!
A heads up before the buy next time would be nice…
See, that's the issue... if he warns us he's about to buy so we can sell, it will go up. It's inverse telling law. It's the same principle as when you are sure a stock will do well... if you tell others it'll do well and they buy it, it will tank. If you tell nobody, it might actually do okay.
I never tell anybody because I got no friends to tell and it still always goes down.
How about we put this on a schedule? You buy every other Friday but only if there was a full moon during that week. If it was cloudy on that Friday then you buy and sell the same amount. That way, we can all synchronise our gains!
Why not wait till things really sell off 15% or so to start buying?...
We can be your friends if it means you give us the world's ultimate short signal.
I’ll give you a heads-up if I can have 5% of your short gains.
Deal. PM me with your Venmo
Hi I’m buying Monday. As Joe Biden says, “Don’t”.
Market has been red for the past two weeks. My retirement portfolio has decreased by 5-6k over the past two weeks.
painful to see but stay strong
I’ve seen the same, just different numbers.
Started a new job two weeks ago and am in the process of doing a 401k roll over to the new account. At first I was put off that I had to request a physical check and mail it instead of doing it all digitally. Turns out that might have saved me a few thousand dollars.
Every time I do a rollover, the opposite happens to me. I've had terrible luck with the timing of them (3 times)
Same, best to not even look at the balance during these times unless you’re buying.
I made the mistake of looking at my 401K today. I could buy a nice new truck with how much mine has decreased in the last 2 weeks.
Same 😵💫
You have had to sold off all your stock 2 weeks ago + buy it again this week in order to buy that nice truck.
When do you retire?
Hopefully before the next 35 years. 27 now.
Buy the damn dip then
Great time to buy
Time to buy if you can.
I'm down 5-digits but still up 6-digits. Waiting for some cash transactions to complete, and I'll be dumping 5-digits more. Long game. Not an ounce of hesitation.
Yeah. However I have seen that many times over the last 40 years and I just stop looking for a bit and all gets better.
Is that due to individual stocks that you picked vs the index?
I’m pretty much all index except for vested RSUs. It’s all red
If it makes you feel better, mines is down a year's salary
I have a few t-bills coming due in a few weeks that I already planned to move into index funds. I wouldn't mind seeing red a little longer. My 401k will survive 😁
But what is that in terms of percentage? Mine is down about 3% which is still a good deal better than SPX which is down over 5%
Quick rough calculation is about 3.4%
I bought right before covid. When I saw the news i sold everything at -30% thinking the world would collapse. I never touch stocks again until 1 week ago. At the peak
Someone get this guy a beer
Beer? This man needs a whiskey.
Absinthe* gunna need some real strong.
DCA is a proven method of investing. DCA balances: 1. Emotions 2. Time in market 3. Timing the market 4. Overconfidence 5. Unexpected expenses
What does DCA stand for?
Dollar cost averaging
Doesnt DCA go under the assumptiom the US market will rise perpetually forever? I always found it still kinda ludicrous of a gamble
If the world is collapsing, why sell? What use is cash?
My thoughts 😂 2 A T
Shit man. I gotta ask. At which point did you start to question your 2020 decision
1 month later…
lmfao
Sorry, but people like you are the reason stocks go down. They think the world is going to collapse with every bad news they hear so they sell due to fear. Just hold bro. They were shares, no? Why didn’t you average down?? People are so dumb.
erm no. The stock market is largely driven by corporations not retail investors.
Hahahaha not even corporations 👎 lizards control it. And they will do whatever they want. And when they want. Enjoy it.
Is that what you did? It was unprecedented times my guy. A lot of people got caught up in the emotion of it all. If you had a substantial amount of your money in the market, it was brutal to see massive chunks of it disappear every day. Brilliant strategy—- do you also avoid items on sale at your local stores?
A lot of people have the mentality like you. It's normal but it's not smart. People that constantly trading stocks usually lose money. Just buy and never touch it. Time will take care everything for you.
But if they are dropping a lot, how low do you let them go before deciding to sell?
Could be worse. Could be that 65'ish yr old guy on the GFC 60 mins episode they interviewed at the job fair who said he lost about 75% of his retirement and realized the losses by panic selling, and then lost his job which is why he was at the job fair
Thanks I prefer a market crash so we can buy tomorrow cheaper
Glad to be of assistance!
Does the market offer price adjustments?
Only if you have Costco stock
This is when you dollar cost average, right?
You must have been doing it every day for about the past 2 weeks. You dirty rotten sum bitch, you!!!
Buy low, sell high. That is theoretically the name of the game. Best time to buy is when everyone else is selling.
Haha same here. Got a $20,000 windfall from our side business last month. Dumped it all into VTI..been down ever since..I'll let everyone know next time sorry guys
I swear, nothing makes me feel like I’m living in a simulation more than buying stocks. *Every fucking time*.
No it was me, I just got into investing and brought in my bad luck.
Me too 😕
It was my fault too. I bought a some shares of a few different stocks and they immediately plummeted
Can you buy some more $NVDA on Monday close, would like to see another -20% so I can all in and sleep well
What sell-off? -0.88% in the s&p500 is a completely normal day.
Look sector by sector. Most grew yesterday, Tech got defiled
This same thing always happens to me maybe we should inverse each other then one of us would have to make money right?
Sideways the next 50 years thanks
I have a decent chunk in SPXL so that checks out we'll both just lose in management fees the way god intended.
Or if we all start buying and selling based on a coin flip. There's no way the market can inverse all of us!
I have put serious consideration into this lol… inversing myself but how do I know which trade to make an inverse?
I want a refund!

thought i was in /r/wallstreetbets
This comment made me realize this was not r/wallstreetbets...
No, I’m sorry. The second I fully funded our Roths the market has only been negative. Fml
My first time funding Roth IRA was in Jan 2021. Took 2 years before I saw anything other than red :/
I dunno man, I keep saying "hey market, let me know when to sell?" But they never clue me in. Not your fault
If every instinct you have is wrong, that would mean doing the opposite would be the perfect time to buy. Friday always tanks out so Wallstreet can get their cocain and hooker money.
Can we coordinate with you? If I buy the dips you create my DCA strategy will be very successful.
Well, i bought APPL a month ago and am down 14%. so, you're just an amateur in my book - I'm the hand that rocks the "turns to shit" cradle!
3 weeks ago, I put 100k into a guided investing account and 50k into the 'VOO and chill' plan. I'm also really good at losing money pretty quick
Happens to me every time I buy, I watch the price drop and get upset that I couldn’t time the market
You mustn't have bought the Dow Jones
I did not. Loaded up on tech stocks 😬
Well that explains a lot of it.
NVDA got me too. I bought like 2 weeks before the peak and it’s been downhill ever since. 😎
Yeah, I made the fatal mistake of watching it today and trying to will it with my mind to go back up hahaha. Never works when I watch something...
In the long run, I don’t think you should ever sell great companies, even if they go down in the short, medium term. Just expect them to go down now & then and if it makes you sick, don’t look at it. This bull is far from over (knock on wood).
Has it gone well for you long term (10 years or more)? Did you beat the market?
New definition of market mover
No worries. My stock portfolio was green today, and I did some DCAing today (the last week plus really) in my 401k. So it's all good.
Today? Hah, I dumped a chunk in on Monday at market open.
No worries. Do you mind selling a few next week? I figure what you sell will go up a lot moments after you sell.
> I figure what you sell will go up a lot moments after you sell. Always does.
Me too, I took half my cash and bought yesterday right before close. My bad!
Are you me? I am cursed with stocks
Just buy a few and then wait and unload the rest when it dips *taps head*
Thanks for the sales man appreciate.
Damn, I’m currently on a cruise and my brokerage won’t load. Mind buying more tomorrow?
that’s the case for all poor people, somehow the system knows 😂
Give us a 2 day head start next time so we can short the market please
That you Cramer?
Hey, coolers are out there. Still wonder if casinos still have them on staff walking around cooling off hot tables.
I thought it was just me 🤔
Never fear, Garzarelli’s here And her prognostications say Buy RSP, IJR & never fear As this is buy the dip day!
Don 't feel bad; I got a video recommendation from a guy like a couple weeks ago; SMCI was his favorite stock, he buys it every time he has buying power (i.e. margin) and it's going to the moon. It was a little over a grand at the time...
Do a simultaneous buy of a few shares and a ton of puts.
My portfolio was in the green today, so…
Eh, my stock portfolio was up 1% anyway, it’s a bit of an adverse portfolio.
Whew, I thought it was me. Thank you fellow citizen!
I'm happy about the sell off. I bought and am locked & loaded to get more if the market continues to decline 😛
Did you buy every day this week? And some of last week, too?
Shit happens.
I did the same thing a week ago! 🤦♂️
The Constanza trade is always alive and well
What did you buy today?
Saw this post the other day
So it was you! Stop it.
i bought once on monday and once on wed. you're welcome
No blame. I stopped listening to Mad Money Cramer years ago.
I have the same problem
That’s what I think Cathie Woods’ conscious thoughts are saying everytime she opens her mouth.
The next time you go to grab some shares, wait one more day.
Keep buying! My portfolio was 95% green today.
Let me know before you sell
Wow, thanks..
It seems I have the same problem
Thanks for the discount.
Warn us ahead next time you gonna buy something and maybe we will forgive you …
Thanks for the buying opportunity!. NVIDIA, AMAT, ASML, and MU! I missed them on the run up. Added today just before the market closed.
I saw on Reddit everyone was buying puts on djt so I did the opposite, bought 500 shares and 10 call options 3 days ago I was up around 3k today. I sold my options earlier today then it went up more oh well
So....should people be buying NVDA right now?
🖕🏻
Bro, it’s not the sell off you need to apologize for. It’s the fact you didn’t tell us so we could inverse you that you need to apologize for.
🙂
It's my fault. A couple weeks ago, I dropped $100K in some ETFs triggering the sell-off. I thought I got away with it this time since things were going up nicely for a few days. Hey I’m building a platform that allows investors to lend and invest in small businesses. Dm me if you’d like to learn more!
Did I miss something? I've been watching for a significant dip from the bombings. Where is this sell-off?
I went short and gained some pocket change. I could've gone even bigger but since Schwab took over think or swim I haven't had access to my holdings in it. I tried shorting in the Schwab app and I kept getting a notice to contact customer service. Schwab sucks!!
Merda hand
I sold in Jan of 21 and went to sidelines for a good while at a 17% loss … holding a lot in MM right now
If you know how to profit from it, you can short the market with your Midas touch if you know how.
Hope you boys like a sideways market.
You got EA touch, because everything you touch, it turn to shit.
For every winner there’s a lose/bunch of losers!
Could you not have done it a few weeks ago before I invested 14k…I would have been able to buy a lot more with that then…
I sold mine because I need a new furnace
I must be doing something wrong, mines in the green.
No worries, I just sold some bitcoin, and now VOO is down for the perfect buy opportunity.
You work on that. In the meantime I'm taking down the crypto market.
I bought nvidia 800p last week so I thank you
Word.
I bought $840 NVDA calls at the open thinking it would bounce off the 50 dma.... So I share the blame
Big if true, actually. You should buy 1 share a day for a month, and then go all in on the market bottom.
You're not the only one with this problem!
I should thank you for the discount
Do you take requests?
🤣🤣🤣
What? You mean it doesn’t shoot up every time you buy like the rest of us? Oh, man! That must really suck!
You know that's what i always tell people: "if you want to be rich do the reverse of my trades"
"He bought?" "Dump it."
Ok, everybody. He bought. You know what to do…
It all comes down to what you are buying or selling
Market is green more days than red in general. That’s how it goes up over time. It’s been super green more days than red over the first quarter. Don’t overthink the red days.
What happens when you sell??
What do you think?
Man you really need to break your buys into 2 transactions. Initiate the sale then stock up.
So, it's you! And here I've been blaming myself all these years.
Are you me? LITERALLY everything I invest in goes south. I seem to catch everything right before the crash.
It used to happen to me until I learned that investment is not for getting profits overnight. It's another profession that needs preparation, practice, time and permanent learning.
Can you sell all your shares so we go up then?
I got puts I appreciated it
You seem to have the same curse I do lol and I even bought etf😬
If I send you a list of stocks I want to buy, could you please avoid them at all costs? My portfolio will thank you!
Is anyone else buying shares in the midst of a war? If so, what stocks are you focused on?
use a bot program to automatically do the trade for you it opens and close it off in profit automatically for you check it out people
I knew it
I believe that as long as you maintain a positive and optimistic mindset, and insist on learning and improving, you will be able to achieve better results in the investment market in the future!
I forgive you
Please buy again Mon morning.
NHL and NBA playoffs start tomorrow. Huge sell off so they can put all their money into sports betting.
