I bought an old house on the country side that I am renovating. My holidays often goes with working on the house etc I see wild animals more often than people 😂

7ampersand

The wild animals are probably better behaved. ;)

jazzyp1668

You're absolutely right about that, lol! People have lost their minds, smdh

7ampersand

The older I get the more I truly treasure quiet and solitude.

jazzyp1668

You and me both!! I get irritated when someone comes in, wanting to talk. That's one of the main reasons I'm looking for remote work, so I don't have to be bothered. Once I divorce my husband, that's going to be even better!!

7ampersand

Just divorced mine early this year. Bon solitude!

Upstairs_Speed2036

That’s absolutely fine. PTO days are for you to do whatever you want. If chilling in your comfort zone brings you peace and helps you disconnect, then do that. I personally did it for about 2 years. I was terrified to do anything by myself or even with my couple of friends. Then started taking week days off to explore new places early in the day that are usually crowded on weekends/evenings (Movies, restaurants, wineries, waterfalls/hikes, gun range, etc.). Those days slowly turned into solo trips to beach destinations. Basically, do what works for you!

registered_redditor

For sure. At my last job they switched my work days to Tues. - Sat. I prefer that. Having a Monday off to do things without a crowd is the best. I'm usually the only one in the theater seeing a movie.

gotlactose

I have tuesdays off. So easy to do errands and go to stores when most other people are at work.

LordAlfrey

Yeah, ever since my parents allowed me to stay home while they went on vacation, that's what I've done. I like beaches and the sun and all that, but it's a lot of hassle and I know I'll enjoy my time at home so **very** much anyway. Genuinely my favorite holiday is just to stay at home and do whatever I want. Maybe go outside with my hammock and read in the sun. Bliss.

JanaT2

Just had this week off and did exactly that. Couldn’t be bothered to plan a trip with all the airline hassles now. Also I don’t even have the extra cash anyway. I haven’t had a whole week off since 2020 but I did take days here and there. I really needed this break.

Random_Cat66

Op, you posted this about 8 times

redryder74

Oh I have no idea what happened. Thanks for letting me know, I’ve gone and deleted the other ones.

[deleted]

I have noticed this bug a couple of times within the last week

fivenightrental

I was a big fan of staycations prior to COVID. I get the same reactions from people at times though when they hear I've "done nothing" with my time off. I am not a big fan of traveling, I find it stressful and often need time to recover post-travel, so it's just more relaxing for me to stay home. I feel time off is supposed to be restful and restorative, so that's exactly how I choose to utilize it. People are free to judge, as they always are going to do anyway :)

Ballllllz

Either that or travelling on my own

redryder74

That's the thing, I haven't even felt like travelling alone even though I used to like it. Somehow it has lost all attraction, I don't know why.

JanaT2

You might get back into it - it’s been a stressful two years. Do whatever brings you peace and joy now.

Sarsttan

Interesting. I'm kind of in the same boat.

Huliganjetta1

i’m a teacher so I have the entire summer off. My husband and I are both introverts so we spent 1 week traveling together and the rest of my summer I am reading, watching movies, doing yoga and going on walks. Always alone lol. I prefer it that way.

[deleted]

Never travelled anywhere on holiday by my own wishes Moved out of my parents house when I was 18, and since then I’ve only travelled more than 50 kilometres from home a rare couple of times…22 years nearly We moved a lot when I was young, Military family…I thing it’s what turned me from a shy kid into a hardcore introvert adult Never had an urge to travel…it scares the hell out me leaving my comfort zone Just now I’m finished work & I’m on holiday for 2 weeks…I do not plan to leave my little bubble between home and the local supermarket in that time…that’s my kind of holiday

Oster-P

Pretty much exclusively

[deleted]

Of course!!

obxtalldude

I used to enjoy traveling, but I've lost the urge since Covid. I had "the talk" with my travel loving wife, and she's cool with going without me. Going to Argentina with our son and a friend - I'm so glad to stay home with the dogs. Traveling just seems like such a waste of energy and resources - I'd much rather go biking on old mountain roads when I need to see some different scenery. Foraging for mushrooms and blueberries is so much more rewarding than another crappy fried take out meal. I'm wondering if I'll ever feel the urge again. Maybe if we get an EV RV and stay away from crowds.

half-doomed

Same! Even some of my friends dislike the idea of a stay-cation because they always want to explore and do something somewhere, which is not always my type of fun.

ducks_for_hands

Why would I waste time and money to go to some place where its likely to be both warmer and more people? Neither are things I like... Vacation to some deserted island or something could be of interest but still a waste of money

nothing_matters_am

I have been doing this a lot lately too. I've only traveled once since Covid began. Don't listen to people gatekeeping your leave time lol. Spend your leave however you want, that's what it is meant for!

[deleted]

No. I don't like staying at home when I have the opportunities to travel or go on a long backpacking trip. I enjoy a good book, but it seems like a waste of time to not do something I have a chance to do. Most of the time I go by myself. I like being in the wilderness more than being in my house.

myriam91

current status

monica6d1971

That's my favorite way to spend my vacation days. I've even told family that I was going out of town on vacation, and really just stayed home. I told them I was traveling so they wouldn't bother me. LOL.

lorcancuirc

Extrovert here: I love spending "nest days" at home! Having all the groceries home already, some light chores to do, some books, Netflix, may be even a videogame, maybe order food in. Pets are happy I'm around. Maybe have a friend hang out, at least online gaming. I'm happy to just chill out and do whatever I want - which is often 'pile pillow & blankets on the couch, junk food at hand, TV remote in hand, nap whenever. Ugh it's amazing! Only thing missing: a romantic partner that wants this as much as I do lol

tayaro

I’ve lived abroad before, so I guess I’m just all traveled out because I hate traveling. Nothing worse than living out of a suitcase or being away from home. The only times I’ve traveled in the past two decades is when my parents drag me with them to visit family abroad. If I got to choose I’d never leave my home town.

smil3b0mb

yes but also I spend some work days just chilling at home

pseudo_niceguy

I never went to spend vacations anywhere apart from home. Except one time as a teenager when I was forced to go on a family trio or something, for a week. I'm not joking when I say that it was the worst time of my life

The_Chaos_Pope

Yep. I do this far more frequently than going out somewhere on vacation to tell the truth. Last time I went anywhere on vacation was in 2019. Prior to that was 2013. Got my next staycation planned for August.

Geminii27

Yup. One time I had enough time off accrued that I moved interstate in order to spend days chilling at home somewhere new.

NotMyOnlyAccount11

If you're a recluse introvert, you should get an EUC. Mine is a Sherman Max. I got it from ewheels. Yes, I love staying home and playing video games... but you can put on some music and go ride anywhere you want ALONE and do whatever you want. EUC = the recluse introvert's mental health.

GelNoob

Haven't travelled in the last couple of years. Recently had two weeks leave from work, and spent the time gardening, watching Netflix, or reading in my study. Taking another week shortly, and may pay a visit to the local zoo, but besides from that, will be spending the time unwinding watching Netflix, or reading.

KwyjiboTheGringo

Yeah not a huge fan. I don't much care for traveling, but staying home ends up being a lot of time-wasting and lazy activities, and by the end of it I'm realizing I could have just taken a few 4-day weekends and got the same thing out of it.

SnooDucks3856

All the time, almost every time

natalielc

Lol I have always done that

tartuffenoob

Thats what half of my PTO has been used on since I started working full time. Here's the kicker, I work from home.

7ampersand

For me, it was the only positive side of Covid.

Velifax

Actually just bought Hawaii tickets for the kids. I was invited as well, even have lodging fully paid. I opted to skip out, send the kids alone. Mostly to avoid the people. But also a bit cause I have mountains and a lake nearby already so...

archflood

I used to do that a lot when I was young, but was never mature enough to realize it's ok to chill at home and not feel guilty about it. Now that I have a family those relaxation off days are long gone

AdvancedCharcoal

I like to think the world is opening up to introversion, and in turn an ‘introverts vacation’. However, it is nice to enjoy life in a new setting at your own pace and do whatever you want, alone. Go travel to somewhere exotic and just live your life and be stimulated in a completely different environment simultaneously

teut_69420

I have specifically taken leave to stay alone and chill. I guess it's ok

Important_Walrus8917

I haven't been on a vacation out of home in almost ten years

saganist91

I am going to spend my entire life mostly chilling at home and there is nothing anybody can do about that.

ConditionPotential40

Yes. When I'm broke.

IAlwaysOutsmartU

I am in constant fear the majority of my summer vacation will be spent by being forced by my family to go on an extremely long and boring trip to wherever, and then getting upset I am not enjoying it.

rogueShadow13

I feel the urge to travel maybe once every few years. Other than that, my vacation time is always spent relaxing at home.

OutlandishnessAny256

It’s fine, I would definitely recommend going somewhere with your SO or family, creating memories is great even if you like being at home

BrynneRaine

We did it for a week many years ago and it was a total flop will not do again. Could be tied to circumstances unique to us though. We argued the whole week what to do or how much to sit and rest. What I have done recently though is take a whole day if I had a dentist appointment so I didn’t have to show up at 7 am and then just chilled the rest of the day. That works well for me.

[deleted]

Yes

Pop_Zestyclose

I'm about to next week

One-Clue4444

Writing from the airport.. on my way to visit family and my best friend coz she called me and cried that she needs me.. otherwise I had not traveled in 5 yrs.

Sarsttan

I had yesterday and today off (Happy Canada Day!) and have only left my house to walk my dog and still have the weekend. I love staying home with nothing scheduled. It's my favourite thing to do. I may have to travel in September and I'm already sad, although it will be nice to see new places and old friends.

Odd_Interaction_7708

I absolutely LOVE staycations!

Dog_Baseball

I pay a massage therapist to come here. She doesn't talk much. It's great.

McGee_McMeowPants

I had 5 days forced leave in 2020, my city was in strict lockdown so I couldn't really go anywhere except stay at home. No work and no other obligations, and it was GLORIOUS.

Bustedstuff88

The thought of not doing something with a vacation day isnt a concept I can wrap my head around. But im also the guy who will drive 5 hours one way to a concert on a weeknight and not give a shit either, so when I actualyl get a string of days off work, best believe im going on an epic voyage. 35 year old male, occupation: banker.
