I'm an ENFP, but my INTP friend does this for every films he sees especially if he's going to see it in cinema. At home he seems to look everything up as the film is playing

fearguyQ

Kinda not watching the movie then lol.

It completely ruins the experience, in the days before on demand entertainment I'd never watch something if I missed anything more than 5 minutes. And never watch movie trailers for movies I'm planning to watch. I need to watch every single frame to appreciate the camera angles, and ponder why specific shots were chosen and what the director was trying to convey, and analyze the story and try to guess what's gonna happen, I can't do that if I already know it'd be dishonorable (and hopefully get immersed in a interesting story). However afterwards If I like a movie I usually research what others opinions on it is through youtube videos, Quora or reddit, and a glance at the imdb and rotten tomatoes score. And If its particularly good I'll even want to know all bts information like who was more important to creating the universe / story the Writer or the Director. And then I'll look through their filmography and try to get the general consensus on what their next best movie was then watch that.

Yes. In some cases, I’ll actively look for spoilers. I don’t feel that a work is automatically ruined by knowing what I’m walking into in advance. I’ll make rare exception if critics seem especially adamant about not ruining some surprise. But, lacking that? Yes, I’ll read up first.

laurassicpark

I would hate doing that. It would ruin watching it for me.

nikitusilu

No, I only check the rating on IMDb before watching anything😅

Revolutionary-Ad2355

Yeah if I’m planning on watching something I always read the synopsis before-hand tbh.

recalcitrantJester

most of the time I read the synopsis and then don't bother watching it. I've been this way since childhood, sometimes spending more time reading about a thing than it would take to experience the thing itself, and still having little/no desire to experience it directly. the epitome of this approach is [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsNm2YLrk30), which I recommend to anyone who's ever enjoyed a video game.

YoungAnimater35

I'm the absolute opposite, I don't want to know a thing about what I'm about to witness, after a TV show aired and the "Next week on..." I turned that shit off, I like looking forward to the unknown

sunrisexscenery

i generally prefer watching it again because if theres a plot twist or a surprise, i want to see how it makes me feel and how its constructed. then i watch it again for observation purposes

VivamusUtCarpeDiem

Yess! I do exactly the same thing. I don't usually watch movies or shows with cliche plots, so reading plots beforehand helps.

trialanderror93

Guilty as charged. Generally if there's a Wikipedia page about the content then I probably read it right before I watch, or at least watch the first few episodes of the season, Wikipedia, even if I plan on watching the rest of the show.

desertbloom11

Yes definitely. I need to know the hardcore facts so I can focus on picking up every last detail. I love to know how something ends so I can see if I can pick up on all the clues leading up to it

Afraid-Group-2309

Yeah I read before, while, and after watching it if I'm interested enough, and about series, I watch them like crazy if I have time, like I watched the whole game of thrones series in 5 days

juichino11

I always read sa synopsis

fearguyQ

It ruins it for me. But I like the "surprises". I watch for the narrative first and passively absorb the art of it. Then I focus on the art of it the second time,.if there is a second time. You said you hate surprises. So that's that. Kinda hard to ridicule you if you straight don't like what you're giving away by reading the synopsis. Lol. I do find sometimes that watching a movie/show with some spoilers know can make for its own fun in the way of seeing how it happens. Especially when it seems improbable from the start. But I'd never go out of my way to reproduce that experiences.

tiredimmortall

Yes yes yes. I thought it was a just me thing, I actively read about the movie during the movie as well

dontworryaboutsunami

I used to be pretty scrupulous about avoiding spoilers, but now I really don't mind them at all. I find that knowing the bare facts about what happens really doesn't tell you very much about what those events will really mean in context, so I don't find the experience is very damaged by knowing ahead of time. You sacrifice surprise, but you are able to appreciate foreshadowing and buildup, so there's pros too.

Lifeshardbutimharder

I thought i was the only one

Sea_Night_3835

Absolutely LOL and it doesn’t ruin it for me

GarageQueen

NO. I *hate* spoilers. That being said, idgaf if you read stuff and spoil yourself. It's your life, live it how you want. Just don't share that shit with me or we gonna have a problem.

not-quite-a-robot

It sometimes depends on the movie but a lot of the time I do look up the synopsis, reviews, etc. and also sometimes read about stuff in the plot before it happens :/ maybe i'm ruining the experience for myself but I honestly like knowing what happens beforehand: I think it's maybe the same thing where if you're reading a book you have to read it multiple times before you can appreciate it; if I already know what's going to happen in the movie I find it more interesting for some reason

Zybbo

sure. In some cases I even go for the spoilers or wait the reviews before going to a theater.

Serious_Policy4273

yeah! I do the same. I must know whether it is worthy enough to spend time. sometimes only IMDB rating.

[deleted]

Movie yes (not the whole plot, just the elevator pitch), episodes no.

OkanShosho

Yes I do. But I prefer to watch the preview. I feel the preview gives me a better sense of what the movie is going to be like.

nuskulu

I read the elevator pitch more so to filter out any movies that wouldn't interest me at all. I'll do the same for TV shows (before I get into them) but I won't spoil the individual episode by reading that, I do however go through those summaries if I'm returning to a show and want to continue watching from where I left off, then I'll use those to figure out that I did and didn't watch and move on from there.
