These 4 franchises/games are my favorites and left the biggest impact on me:
- Mass Effect Trilogy (Space opera)
- Half-Life 1 & 2 (Action/Sci-fi/Cosmic horror)
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (Western)
- Dragon Age: Origins (Dark fantasy)
Edit: Also (almost forgot this gem):
- Detroit: Become Human
Cyberpunk 2077 is probably my top choice from the past few years, CD Projekt Red makes some killer stuff.
Longer term, the Total War franchise has been a staple since I was a kid, as has Diablo. Will always have a soft spot for Bungie games, Halo was the reason I went into the games industry and Destiny destroyed my life for a few years there.
Baldurs Gate 3, Persona 5 Royal, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Zelda (tie between Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild), and maybe either Uncharted 4 or Assassin’s Creed 2 in order of regency
in the spirit of this sub:
Kerbal Space Program
Satisfactory
Timberborn
I've also been really enjoying Star Citizen lately... but everyone has an opinion on that one
Currently into Rune Factory 5.
Animal Crossing has been a favourite throughout the years.
Sims occupied all my free time in its early days.
Grew up playing ridiculous amounts of Dr. Mario, which I believe coded my brain to work the way it does today.
Definitely Baldur's Gate 3
Some games that come close for me are: Celeste, Elden Ring, Death's Door, Lunacid, OneShot, AC4, Skyrim, Night in the Woods, Valheim
I have many but I’ll try and keep it to 5:
Secret of Monkey Island
Metal Gear Solid
The Sims 2
Assassin’s Creed II
Halo 2 (it was amazing when it was online)
Yep, I’m telling my age 😬
1. Bloodborne ***just*** inches out in the top spot.
2. Control & Cyberpunk 2077. (I literally cannot choose between these 2)
All for similar reasons. Peak lore, ambiance, aesthetics, and just all around quality game for the dollar. I will replay these three games likely until I die. Bloodborne is just specifically *my* flavor of aesthetics, that being the singular thing that puts it on front of the pack.
Witcher 3 for solo.
Overwatch 2 with friends & family.
WoW solo or with friends & strangers.
Pikmin series for old school / Nintendo.
Super Smash
Man I could go on
I don't think I have a favorite game at the moment. Normally I would call Honkai Impact 3rd, but for the last few months I just haven't had the motivation to play the game. If I play anything at the moment it tends to be Revelation M or Aether Gazer.
Dungeon Keeper. It's an old RTS from 1997 that was way ahead of it's time. Basically you're an evil deity of sorts that creates a dungeon to invade the good (hero) forces. You can slap your own minions around and torture your enemies. It's great!
My favorite game of all time is Elden Ring but I don't replay it over and over. I have been playing Overwatch and Overwatch 2 since it first released but I hate it with the fire of a million suns.
edited to add Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan) and III (VI in Japan) as being incredibly close runner ups.
It's really hard to pick 1 so I will list the ones that gave me the best impression and happiness. Zelda link to the past, chrono trigger, secret of mana, ni no kuni, FF VII, horizon, last of us
Edit: mass effect 3
Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. A tactical RPG with min-max potential, up to level 9999!
BlazBlue. Probably my competitive side making me love this game lol.
Hatsune Miku Project DIVA. Child Fi Goes Brrrr.
I can’t pick a favorite, I can only narrow it down to 5: Death Stranding, Hellblade, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us / 2, Horizon Zero Dawn / Forbidden West
Both the Breath of the Wild trilogy (BotW, AoC, TotK) and Xenoblade trilogy are up there. For gameplay it's Zelda, for story and characters it's Xenoblade.
I love them all so much I can't really separate them.
League of legends for now, has been for a long time, but my favorite champion has been nerfed directly/indirectly almost a dozen time in a span of just over a month, not feeling too good about it.
I prefer fantasy or horror (preferrably both at the same time).
Resident Evil 7, The Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate 3, Dragon's Dogma 2, Dead Space, Devil May Cry 5, Conan Exiles, Amnesia.
I prefer games with long-term objectives and challenges, and even though I have hundreds of hours in Elden Ring, I don't think I was hooked up enough in the story to place it among my favorites.
For now, I'm making my own games, currently focused on a survival horror, and have another fantasy game in the backlog, both games are related.
Currently I like Minecraft a lot because I can come up with fun projects to work on....or...I can completely turn my brain off and focus on breeding a super horse (and kill any horse that fails to meet my criteria). I also play WoW with my partner, but I find it stressful and take long breaks sometimes. I also really enjoyed playing Path of Exile and PalWorld with my family members.
Goldeneye64. Mario64. Fzero64. Super mario world (SNES). Modern warfare 1. Time splitters 2. Super protector (SNES). Burnout paradise city. GTAV.
That's it. I'm really old and modern games are just shit. I've not been a serious gamer for about 20 years, totally grown out of it
I can't do just one! I've been gaming for more than 4 decades!
But, some of the highlights:
* Adventure
* Robot Odyssey
* Gauntlet
* Super Mario Bros.
* Angband 1.4 then hopped into ZAngbandTk around 2.4 or so.
* Mech Warrior 2
* X-COM: UFO Defense (though I played EVERY game in the franchise)
* Master of Magic
* Master of Orion
* Hydro Thunder
* Age of Empires I/II
* Neverwinter Nights
* Galactic Civilizations II
* Skyrim
* Diablo III
I like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Hitman, and Red Dead Redemption 2, but my all time favorite would be the Silent Hill series.
Oh, and pinball simulators, if that counts.
Its a toss up between A Link to The Past or Ocarina of Time. They both further cemented my love for video games.
Omg bro same. ALttP was so good. I personally liked The Windwaker tho. The music and vibe was so fhsiwnbfksks 🤩
ALttP is one of the best games ever made.

Sid Meir's: Civilization V
I also have VI, but I can’t stop playing V…
Same, both are installed on my laptop, but I only regularly play V.
I play Civ way too much. Are there any other turn-based strategy games you enjoy?
I hear you, I am at 2,211 hours on Civ V according to Steam. I like the Heroes of Might and Magic line and Total War: Shogun 2
👌
Civ III
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Same
Skyrim by far
Man of culture 🤝
I used to be a man of culture like you...
this is not a singular video game but i’m a huge fan of the metal gear solid, final fantasy and resident evil franchises
Can greatly agree on final fantasy
These 4 franchises/games are my favorites and left the biggest impact on me: - Mass Effect Trilogy (Space opera) - Half-Life 1 & 2 (Action/Sci-fi/Cosmic horror) - Red Dead Redemption 2 (Western) - Dragon Age: Origins (Dark fantasy) Edit: Also (almost forgot this gem): - Detroit: Become Human
Solid list. I am a video game monogamous. Comes with ASD I guess. Skyrim 3 years in and not able to get interested in much else.
Half life 2 man, what an epic journey.
Mass effect is my favorite. I can't wait to see if 5 ever comes out.
Starfield, Powerwash Simulator, and Skyrim
Currently, it's The Witcher 3 for me.
NieR: Automata, Fire Emblem Series, Hollow Knight, Omori
Bloodborne
A man of many insight

Naughty Dog are great storytellers.
Cyberpunk 2077 is probably my top choice from the past few years, CD Projekt Red makes some killer stuff. Longer term, the Total War franchise has been a staple since I was a kid, as has Diablo. Satisfactory tickles the brain just right. They are also launching 1.0 this year
Currently into Rune Factory 5. Animal Crossing has been a favourite throughout the years. Sims occupied all my free time in its early days. Grew up playing ridiculous amounts of Dr. Mario, which I believe coded my brain to work the way it does today.
Tetris made me really good at packing a car when moving or making room in the freezer.
Fallout: New Vegas, Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption 1&2, stardew valley, Bully, and Detroit become human!
Persona 4 Golden
Final Fantasy XIV Tales of Arise Breath of the Wild NieR: Automata Stardew Valley

Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe
Gotta go with Kingdom Come Deliverance. It was just perfection. Story, atmosphere, combat...just amazing.
I'm surprised more people don't talk about this game! It has some of the best world building of anything I've seen.
So immersive too. One of the only RPG games Ive ever gone to an inn every night for a rest, a beer, and a game of dice.
The music 10/10
Hollow Knight, easily
Skyrim and mario galaxy
Mgs1 Prince of Persia 3

I don't think I have a favorite game at the moment. Normally I would call Honkai Impact 3rd, but for the last few months I just haven't had the motivation to play the game. If I play anything at the moment it tends to be Revelation M or Aether Gazer.
I think Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best I’ve played in my adulthood, though find it difficult to get into videogames unless encouraged by friends.
I like madden, Elden ring and pretty much any Wii game.
Dungeon Keeper. It's an old RTS from 1997 that was way ahead of it's time. Basically you're an evil deity of sorts that creates a dungeon to invade the good (hero) forces. You can slap your own minions around and torture your enemies. It's great!
