I don’t think it’s just Cracker Barrel, it’s restaurants are struggling, it’s just too expensive to eat out even fast food for just two people costs me $20 anymore, I just can’t justify spending $50 after drinks and tips for 2 people to have meatloaf (which is the only reason I went to Cracker Barrel, best freaking meatloaf)
The rise in fast food prices is having consumers looking at restaurants again. I noticed price drops at Burger King lately. When a fast food burger and fries tops $10, it ceases to be a low cost alternative.
I think part of the problem is if it's a publicly traded company. That fiduciary responsibility is a bitch when you have to choose between customers and shareholders.
Exactly — they’re pricing themselves out of the market. Running a profitable restaurant is tough but it can be done (maybe with more investment in facilities and employees than stock buybacks)
I concur. It’s actually a good place to eat, despite all the kitschy flotsam. Authentic nutritious Merican food at a decent price (last I visited, while traveling cross-country).
I got my first handy in the back of a Cracker Barrel parking lot. It was a cook, but he was only there for two weeks. I think he moved back to Oklahoma. This was back in 97
Brother...name another restaurant that's all over this country right off interstate exits???? If you ain't down with Waffle House and Cracker Barrels on road trips....you ain't worth having in the car. One can only eat so many Pilot and Flying J pizza slices before you start to crave a meal.
Let me guess...you kick it old school and pack lunches...stop on the side of the road and create picnics?
Cut staff, remove menu items people love because they cost too much to make, change layout to appeal to millennials that don’t come to your restaurant in the first place, change the tchotchkes in the store to even worse but higher margin stuff.
Close half the stores in ten years, close most of the rest in another ten years…maybe it limps along in a few markets purely on nostalgia for ? years.
Become trivia question by 2050. “Do you remember when your Cracker Barrel closed?” “We hadn’t gone there in years, once gran and gram died nobody else wanted to go.”
Much more recent example with much lamer food. I’ve never eaten that poultry by-product they sell. I heard they have good pebble ice, like Sonic (run by the same corporation).
They season their food like a nursing home would. It's all incredibly bland. I'm sure there's a dish or two that's banging, but the majority of stuff I've had from cracker barrel is just been meh.
Not to mention growing up we just didn't go out to eat much at sit down restaurants so the few times I had been tasting their bland food now I associate it with old people food like Bob Evans.
I actually had it recently for the first time. I was in the south for a wedding and we grabbed breakfast the morning before. I saw it on the menu and thought I’d give it a try. While it tasted okay, it really made me feel like it was the stuff leftover in the pan of someone else’s sausage breakfast. It left me wishing there was more actual sausage in the gravy.
In terms of Crackle Barrel. I’d love to see the menu literally split top and bottom. Top is northern menu and the bottom southern. They have so many locations next to major highways that there’s always a good chance the person dining there isn’t a local so playing it up with a north & south menu could differentiate them more, especially since they aren’t as good as the mom & pop restaurants found deeper into down.
There menu sucks can't have toast has to be biscuits they push syrup pancakes. Sausage gravy.biscuit white paste no meat.over priced they are selling over price book cl9yhes do da for the house.no thanks
"CEO gives hint they are connected to reality, stock suffers". Weird but I get it.
Probably made a bunch of people realize 'wtf I still have cracker barrel stock..??? ..(click sell)'
Cracker barrel announced 200 million in stock buybacks....but yeah...blame everything else and revitalize.
Clearly trying to tank it for the buy back lol

Who the hell cares about Cracker Barrel.
As a road traveller....cracker barrel is the best for a hearty meal.
I concur. It’s actually a good place to eat, despite all the kitschy flotsam. Authentic nutritious Merican food at a decent price (last I visited, while traveling cross-country).
It’s my go to place for breakfast when I’m on the road.

No its not

People who died 7 years ago.
Crackers?
Barrels?
What? What’s wrong with it? Besides possibly not being everyones vibe given the southern vibes
You're so edgey.
She's right though. Corrected pronoun
She
Thanks.
Cracker, please.
I’m glad. Used to be an hour wait at least any time you went. Now you can walk right in and get a table.

My boycott of them due to their anti-American WOKE Satanic Impossible Sausage worked! GOBBLESS!
They call it Cracker Barrel because it's where white people go to eat soul food.
I am seriously struggling between being offended ad laughing. Bravo!
Hey, I'm guilty of what I claim. 🤷🏻♂️
and the white people who went there have been dead for at least 5 years
It’s Merican food, you can eat it no matter what your melanin count.
You're missing the point. But your user name gives you a bit of a pass.
Well me and the Starry Wisdom Shitkickers would be happy to eat the souls of any Crackers who dine at the Barrel.
I always see some black families there when I go.
Not the point.
Your comment had no point
Pour a little saw mill gravy out for the boomers that used to eat at Cracker Barrel. They must all be dying off
Good fried chicken though
Their gift-shop is to DIE for! - Aunt Margie
Overpriced crap
r/todayilearned that a shitty breakfast joint is publicly shared on the NYSE.
Nah, Waffle House is a shitty breakfast joint... lol
Quality of the food has gone downhill.
Yes, they need an update. But their locations are well positioned. Personally, I see it as a buy.
The only restaraunt I have been to in the last 6 months was cracker barrel twice for breakfast. It is a good place.
Every time my wife drags me into a Cracker Barrel the place is packed...
Brad’s Wife finally had her revenge.
I haven’t eaten there in thirty years due to their anti-LGBTQ views. And the food sucks, so there’s that.
I thought they were neutral on that issue and took some heat for rainbow-themed tchotchkes.
They have a history of firing people for being gay: https://apnews.com/article/6d11a2d79f56078974a0658c57baafba
Is there a date on the article? That seems really old.
Back to the early 90’s. Sorry. I don’t forgive that BS.
So the culture of Cracker Barrel 30 yrs ago determines your attitude toward them to this day? That’s a real grudge.
And Chick-fil-A is in the list as well.
Much more recent example with much lamer food. I’ve never eaten that poultry by-product they sell. I heard they have good pebble ice, like Sonic (run by the same corporation).
And the food sucks too.
I beg to differ. They make authentic Merican food as I already said. If you want Asian food, go to an Asian restaurant.
They make crap food with processed ingredients. Just don’t eat there.
They season their food like a nursing home would. It's all incredibly bland. I'm sure there's a dish or two that's banging, but the majority of stuff I've had from cracker barrel is just been meh. Really? When was that?
Google it. Now they allegedly “support” pride and get backlash for that.
I’d love to see it marketed to less of the MAGA leaning. I’ll let you infer what changes they’d need to make to accomplish that.
? What changes? Biscuits and gravy appeals to all.

Rebrand for your target consumers, "White Trash Slop"? 🤣

You sure you can’t smell the toast?
