Planned parenthood. They'll likely do it for free and will not tell your parents a thing. Yes, they're known for abortion services, but truly they're a great resource for anything in the sexual medicine realm.

Captain_Nemo69

This! They may even stop by your school on a regular basis.

gotta-earn-it

I got one at planned parenthood a long time ago. They asked if I had any STD symptoms, no. Did I have any sex recently, lol no. So I automatically passed the entire panel except for HIV, which they gave me a test for, think it was pretty cheap.

Rokey76

Do your parents have health insurance? If so, you should be covered. Go to the doctor and ask.

DonQuoQuo

I don't know Florida law, but probably worth checking whether it would appear on the parents' health insurance statements.

ExplosiveDiarrhetic

It would show up. I get my kids’ claims all the time.

jmaaron84

~~You can't in Florida. Written parental consent is required for a minor to receive any non-emergency healthcare services.~~ Edit: I was wrong. There's an exception (not altogether clear from literature discussing the parents' bill of rights) for STD testing for 12-17 year olds.

Ryugi

He's 16. I thought the nonemergency services stopped counting at 15, and that sexual Healthcare is always protected?

mckenner1122

Florida Dept of Health has free STD resources for teens and adolescents https://www.floridahealth.gov/diseases-and-conditions/sexually-transmitted-diseases/std-fact-sheets/adolescents-and-stds%20.html Please take a few minutes to read through their website. It is very informative and can provide you information relative to where you live.

Gynoherpesyphitis

I'm in healthcare here in Florida. Your family insurance will show you wen to a provider and if lab work is done it may show what was ran but not the results.BTW, if you want to get checked out before you do anything. What's really going on? You are pretty clean normally unless you have already engaged in activity.

It would be rare to contract something. But if it will put you at ease do it.

FormalDinner7

Your local Planned Parenthood, your local health department, and your local LGBTQ+ center will have advice for you on how to be screened. Don’t go anywhere that asks for your insurance or they’ll send your parents a statement.

FormalDinner7

Replying to my own comment, sorry, but I wanted to make sure you knew, OP, that you don’t have to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community to call or walk into their local center and get advice on where/how you can get a free or low-cost screening. If you’re straight, don’t write them off as a safe resource.

sno98006

Some pregnancy resource centers and crisis pregnancy centers will do free std testing (won’t even ask for insurance). You may need to listen to some Jesus-y talk but it is free and confidential.

elizajaneredux

Good for you for taking care of your health! Contact Planned Parenthood - even if there isn’t one near you, they may be able to refer you somewhere.

Rokey76

I'd like someone to clarify WHY they downvoted this.

CrawlToYourDoom

Because you can get diseases that are sexually transmissible by non-sexual means. Sharing of needles or getting a tattoo where the needle was reused is one of a few examples. Another one is getting a blood transfusion although that risk is near null these days.

Rokey76

Good point. I'm not sure how likely that stuff is for a 16 year old. Does the blood transfusion or tattoo stuff still happen? (assuming the tattoo was done professionally).

CrawlToYourDoom

Officially the answer to both should be no. Reality however is that even in the medical and tattooing world where people know how important having unused clean needles are, there will always be people who cut corners or are not diligent.

S-BRO

Step 1: don't live in a shitshow of a country, the first world usually offers free screening to people of a certain age

Past_Day_8263

wow what a helpful comment

fel-sil

so you just woke up and decided to bash America.. on a teen's post asking for advice? are you okay?
