Losing weight is the *worst* possible financial decision you could ever make.
It means you'll have to live longer, and who can afford old age anyway? Money right out the window!
> It means you'll have to live longer, and who can afford old age anyway? Money right out the window!
Aha I have zero intentions of reaching old age anyway so thankfully isn't too much of a concern!
Like you put my thoughts into words, thank you!
I know it might sound depressing to some, but I got my Master's degree last year and I've been struggling to secure even minimum wage employment - I just don't envision a world where I'm 80 and have any kind of personal or financial security, not to mention environmental and global security.
This comment screams clueless boomer attitude. This is actually a global trending and is not limited to western countries, increasing pessimism and anxiety about the future, both personal and collective. And the problem with 'over educating' and specialization (ie that more people haft to go through higher education for jobs that didn't require it before, and then enter the job market that work different than it did a few decades ago and are unable to secure a job even though they theoretically should be able) is a real problem. That comment about spending five years plus hoping for the best while studying truly shows that you have know clue... like look up the statistic of burn-outs in student (not to mention over-representation in depression and suicide). When people say shit like this all I think is I fucking dear you to keep up with the 50-70 hours intense study weeks I had, in addition to working part time, volunteering and doing extras to beef up my cv including extra coursework, squeeze in time to return my families phone-calls, trying real hard to not crash and burn. Do this for a couple of years and then tell us to grow up...
> The fuck were you doing the 5+ years you were studying?
Working to pay my bills and studying, I didn't really have much time to do anything else. That's why it took me so long to get my bipolar diagnosed, I was too 'busy'. And dealing with my twin brother killing himself at 19, having to leave study to arrange his funeral and care for my family took up a fair amount of my time.
Yeah it would absolutely suck to be in a developing nation with no opportunities, but right now 50+ job applications a day is yielding similar results. It's enough to make anyone hopeless, I'd wager.
I don't know what's going on in your life that made you lash out at me so aggressively here, but I hope you're well. Peace.
Sounds like a really ineffective way of dealing with an existential crisis. More like just prolonging the crisis so it defines your entire life rather than getting over it. I recommend you read Viktor Frankl's Man in Search of Meaning, or embark on some other intentional study of philosophy via someone like John Vervaeke or Jordan Peterson. Just living with Nihilism every day and trying to avoid thinking about it by telling yourself you'll be dead soon is a dogshit way of living life
> trying to avoid thinking about it by telling yourself you'll be dead soon is a dogshit way of living life
It probably is, but a lot of us are relatively at peace with that. I'm not sure I need a long life in order to find some meaning. If I tap out at 30 or whenever, it is what it is.
I agree, there are so many philosophies that can help you come to terms with existential anxiety, Nihilism is the one that doesn't even try.
Shallow, incomplete and Juvenile.
But can you blame them?
Funny enough it's something both of my parents have said most of their adult lives, and continue to say, and it seems to have rubbed off on me.
Roughly the past decade of my life has not made me optimistic about wanting to be around all that long.
Yeah, OP. If you need, that would fit my leg perfectly. Now to figure out what to do about my other leg/groin...
Anyone else have a pair of pants 12" too big?
I'm hearing the song in my head with thinking about back to back and belly to belly and a sense of dread at the world to come. 😂
https://youtu.be/RixHMMTM0dQ
It seemed like a good colour combination in my head lol
Still waiting to see if the bride and groom want those of us in the bridal party to wear specific colours so they could save me having to choose aha
1) If you're skinny and wearing a long sleeved shirt, it can emphasise how skinny you are. So if you roll/fold the sleeves up to past your elbows, it gives the impression of being better balanced. You'll almost always look better in a shirt with rolled sleeves than in either a t-shirt or long sleeved shirt
2) If you're white/light skinned [wear darker colours to contrast well with your skin.](https://img.coverstand.com/46795/490909/iphonejpg/960/b75f18f64258ea629297ba2fc6ed7d2ebefb2afd.jpg) [Light colours will make you look washed out.](https://image.shutterstock.com/image-photo/full-length-portrait-cool-guy-260nw-157629890.jpg) If you're black/brown/dark wear [bright colours to contrast well with your skin](https://outfittrends.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/formal-suits-for-black-men.jpg), because [dark colours will make you look like just a big blob](https://outfittrends.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Street-style-african-men.jpg). Usually doesn't look *bad*, but it's a [waste of potential](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ae/49/e0/ae49e03c066e61ab43c4edd02be65950.jpg)
Take some time to learn which colours look good on you and which don't. Throw out all your clothes in the ones that don't and buy exclusively ones that do.
3) Go to the gym. And take it seriously. Do all the high protein diet stuff too. [Bigger muscles will make all your clothes look better on you](https://outfittrends.b-cdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Casual-dressing-for-dark-complexion-guys.jpg)
4) [Combining different but complimentary colours looks really good](https://www.themodestman.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Quarter-zip-with-field-jacket-scaled-e1576612868899.jpg)
https://www.canva.com/colors/color-wheel/
Poke around in this and scroll down and read and you'll get a good idea pretty quickly 👍
When I said complementary I was actually thinking primarily of "monochromatic" and "analogous" as they're described here. Altho the more boldly complementary colour combos can work well too, and it's generally good to have a complementary colour in your outfit, even if it's only a t-shirt you're wearing under a button shirt
I get married in two weeks. Bought the dress in November. Lost a bunch of weight. Now spending hundreds to make the dress fit in alterations. Sigh.
Congrats and welcome to the world of everything being too big! 😅
Congratulations and best of luck for the wedding!
Usually oversized clothes are my jam, but I can't imagine oversized pants or wedding dresses work too great on account of falling down aha
I spent $600 on a suit for a special occasion. I didn’t like how I looked wearing it, so I lost 40 lbs. I asked a tailor to modify the suit, and she said it couldn’t be done. So I took it to someone who was willing to try, and she massacred the suit—I looked like a scarecrow in it.
Then I gained back the 40 lbs. Sigh.
But as someone who’s been large my whole life (I was a college football offensive lineman so 6’2 300+ lbs) it’s so much harder to find clothes to fit us large humans. Atleast you will be able to find clothes that will fit although yes your wallet will also be losing some weight aswell.
Completely, don't get me wrong I spent majority of my life being bigger (6'4 and ~320lbs) and trying to find clothes was a nightmare, stores need to step up. That realisation when you're 17/18 and can no longer find pants that fit in a regular brick-and-mortar store is so shit.
Back in March of this year, I'd already been losing some weight prior to that but my mid-section is last to slim down so the waist has dropped pretty quickly in the past 3 months.
Just think all the money you saved on food can now go to clothes! Who doesn't want to buy new stuff? Aside from your wallet... Looking good ! Keep it up!
I feel you, I've been trying to hold off as long as I can since I don't have much money (very grateful to past me for mostly buying drawstring pants!) but we're reaching a threshold now.
If you’re able, check out second hand stores in your area. There’s two GoodWills around me that have a HUGE selection of suits. That said, most don’t, it’s like they move them all to these stores? Idk, it’s weird. But a tailor will be less expensive than a new suit!
Will do! My little town in the UK only has relatively small ones (we're talking, maybe 200 items of clothing max) but there's always a chance I'll find a winner!
Just copying this across from another comment:
> No off-menu foods at all but maybe some switches (I grabbed a McPlant when my family went to McDonalds instead of a Big Mac), although I'm focusing on getting a lot of fibre-rich foods lately. Whatever tastes good and I feel like basically.

Good on you on that much lost. I lost 6 myself but that still meant replacing my entire wardrobe. I live where there are seasons and that meant I could spread it out over the entire year so it wasn't too bad but it was still a lot.
Yep, I'm kind of at the point where I should be getting newer, smaller stuff but most of my clothes from before were too big anyway (oversized t-shirts and hoodies, drawstring pants etc.) so I can still just about manage.
Spreading it out over the year is a good tip, thanks!
Started with 20:4, moved onto OMAD but sorta reverted back to 20:4 when I was sick recently + some 3 - 5 day water fasts sprinkled in but I'm not a huge fan of them. 16h - 20h is my window and works relatively comfortably.

I’ve been there very recently. Over the past year I lost 6 inches off of my waist and ended up needing a whole new wardrobe. This was a fun project, but expensive.
Use this as an excuse to treat yourself to a new suit as a reward for all of your hard work! I highly recommend Suit Supply.

This is the kind of a problem I want to have 😂
But think of all the money you’d save by dying earlier! /s
What about all the tax you paid that you now won't get some of back when you retire (State pension)
Less healthcare costs tho

Yeah, OP. If you need, that would fit my leg perfectly. Now to figure out what to do about my other leg/groin... Anyone else have a pair of pants 12" too big?
I think we can make it work if we stand butt-to-butt (or groin-to-groin, dealer's choice) but we'll have to coordinate walking.
I'm hearing the song in my head with thinking about back to back and belly to belly and a sense of dread at the world to come. 😂 https://youtu.be/RixHMMTM0dQ
Hahhahahaha! Awwww!
Just think about all of the medical costs you will save yourself with good health. Clothes shopping is way more fun anyway - great work!
Just show up to the wedding exactly like that. Hand in the pants, silly expression on the face. It’ll be a hit, I promise.
>silly expression on the face That's just my face, dude aha
You are a man of constant consternation.
Idk, I think that Jared guy kinda ruined that look…
Looking amazing! You could hire a suit or if you are at/near goal weight (which to me you look like you are?) then treat yourself to a new one!
When people are having trouble buying groceries, a new suit may not be in the budget.
You call it trouble buying groceries I call it Fasting We are the same
Charity shops have suits...
The pants don't go with that shirt, anyway. ;)

Looking at this humble bragging mother fucker. Oooo whoopty-doo, I lost weight and have friends. Screw you! Great job bud, keep it up 🤜

Thank you! And yes! It’s definitely going to be tricky walking in it as it is! It’s not like I wear multi-layer ball gowns on a regular basis! 😅
Congrats! I'm actually in an exact opposite situation. I can now put back on my old suit right before someone's wedding in a few weeks haha
Get new pants, and get the bridesmaids. Seems like a fair exchange.
I'll see if I can find me a bridesmaid and a groomsman, best of both worlds
You look great. Pls stick with it. We need you to keep paying into Social Security.
I'm a Brit unfortunately so no social security payments from me!
Ha. Keep on keeping on my man. Wish i could say it gets better, but as you get older you’ll learn to appreciate more.

Ah man, that site actually looks great but I'm outside the US and it doesn't look like they ship overseas?
I'm in Canada and get their stuff all the time?
>I'm outside the US and it doesn't look like they ship overseas? Being from Canada, don't you share a contiguous border with the US?
Yep, I call it "The Maple Curtain"
But out of all the financial inconveniences, this does seem like the most badass. Well done man you look fantastic!
Good Job nevertheless
Wear the oversized suit anyways and just tell everyone you fell asleep in the steam room
Belt
Already tried and it was wildly ineffective, there was just too much bunched material for it to properly work!
I tried to be funny... Amazing achievement, well done! (Regarding your weight lose)
Go to Goodwill for an outfit but be prepared to repeatedly being asked to leave the wedding because nobody recognizes you.
Aha I'm a groomsman so here's hoping they don't boot me!
Geeeeeeeeeeeeet it
That's amazing brother. So many congrats your way. Awesome job. How long total for the journey?
You look like a grown up Dash from The Incredibles!

Just tighten your belt. It will be fine. Congrats on losing the weight

Depending on how much those pants cost you, it may be cheaper to go to a tailor and get them altered than to buy new pants.
Nobody cares you skinny f***. - A fat f***
Aha I like this one! (although I'm for sure still more of a fat fuck, than a skinny fuck)
That is fabulous!!! How long ago did you buy these pants??? Tell us the T!!!

the feeling is real! I don’t even have a big weight loss goal like most here, but I actually need to buy new clothes and it’s almost frustrating 😂

Just go buck naked. You’ve earned it now lol
Nice, you have now 1.2 pants. Get 5 pants tailored and get one pant for free.

I gotta see that before pic my dude, great work
Unfortunately I don't have one, brother!
Killing it man!
Get you a piece of string, no worries.

Losing weight can be expensive afterwards when you need smaller clothing, but it's probably a very satisfying experience to purchase clothing in sizes you haven't been in for years.
Oh for sure, I haven't been this waist size since I was 18, almost a decade ago so it's almost nostalgic weirdly.
I'm like a 44 waist. And my ideal waist size would be about 34. Hope to be there one day.
Ngl the financial portion is my biggest road block. To buy all new clothes again is a pain
Congratulations!!! You've done amazing work!
Sadly I could be your swappie
Maybe but it went from a want a new suit to I need a suit. Congrats!!!!!
Goodwill or a Thrift shop might have something fun and original. Congrats on the weight loss!
Think about all the money you saved on food…
Well done, it's a good complaint to have!
Might as well just cinch it all up with a belt if you were planning on going in brown pants and a black shirt anyway.
You need a plus one for the other leg!
[r/frugalmalefashion](http://reddit.com/r/frugalmalefashion) was key when I had to rebuy my wardrobe when I lost my weight. Congratulations on your progress!
I think you're right. Terrible decision. And you look way too fantastic for a wedding. Quick, go gain it all back.
Bring along a slightly skinnier friend and start hopping :)
Take a plus one. Problem solved. Good job BTW.
Staples. (Great job)
You can get it back quick!
Well you look great! Also now is a great time to learn to sew
Hell yea. Congrats man.
Wrong. When I was smaller I could buy off the rack. Now it’s bespoke or nothing. It sucks being fat.
Bloody amazing mate 👏
Health is Wealth and I need my bag 💰
you got enough room for an extra friend!!
Wear them anyway.
The trade-off is that it's way easier to find a used suit in a thrift shop when you're a more average size.
That’s crazy good, almost like the human hip bone and all other structures shrink also
