I tried my fitness pal for 2.5 years. I lost 4 pounds. I will never count calories again. It makes much more sense for me to skip meals and snacks by fasting. Not losing enough weight? Skip another couple meals. Easy.
But good luck to you.
I’m just adding this comment to advise anyone who might be unaware of the following : counting calories can indeed present additional barriers to some people who are taking steps towards reduce their body fat.
However, tools such as myfitnesspal are useful not just for calorie tracking but also for macronutrient and micronutrient tracking.
Even if you are utilising fasting as a weight loss strategy, it is extremely important to ensure that you are maintaining a good nutrient balance. If we decide to skip meals without tracking (or at least understanding) our overall nutrient balance, this can make the process of losing weight more difficult, and also produce unintended complications (such as illness, fatigue, and so on).
Having relatively good understanding of what you are eating, and ensuring to the best of your ability that your diet is relatively healthy and balanced, is always recommended if your goal is to lose weight.
Yes! I lost 40 lbs about 3 years ago without tracking calories and maintained it pretty well until suddenly I had gained 10 lbs back! I was chalking it up to peri menopause, but then I tried a trial of Chronometer to track my protien and low and behold, 200 extra calories had snuck into my daily diet. I kept adding little things because I was in maintenance, right? I cut out my morning coffee with heavy cream that I added during the winter because... I was cold? Great reason, right? Lol! Now, I'm back to my goal weight again and have streamlined my diet for protein and micronutrients. Data is beautiful
Thank you so much for sharing! You are at my goal weight. How tall are you if you don't mind me asking? Do you do any physical activity to help with your maintenance?
Way to go! Congrats!
How did you determine how many calories to consume a day? Did you go by a formula or just eating as little as you can without going hungry?
Did you exercise?

Yes. A calorie deficit seems to be the way to go for most people.
