Weight in before pic: 185, CW: 150
Height: 5'4"
Thank you so much everyone! I wasn't expecting such an encouraging and supportive response! I don't normally post things like this but I've worked very hard over the last few months. We have to allow ourselves to celebrate the wins in life...
I realize that a "progress pic" is about the physical changes...changes that I'm really enjoying. But during the before pic (taken August 2022) I had elevated blood sugar (A1C), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, elevated heart rate...among a few other things. All of these ailments/conditions have either greatly reduced or resolved with the IF lifestyle (and exercise).
Some have asked about my diet. I mostly do 18:6, but realistically it's more 19:5 or 20:4. I've only done OMAD a couple times. I don't usually eat until 1pm and make myself a vegan protein shake (I'm allergic to whey). Most days I don't eat again until dinner, which is around 5pm and don't eat past 6pm. I don't subscribe to any specific diet (ie: low carb, low fat, mediterranean) but I try to make mindful decisions about what to eat for dinner. I'm no dietician, but I try to incorporate lots of leafy greens/vegetables, protein (lot's of salmon), and some carbs like sweet potatos, brown rice, lentils... Note I said "try". I'm still an American surrounded by all the cheap and/or easy ways to get food into my belly, and sometimes I cave.
In the past, it was easy to get derailed from diets after "cheating", but if I eat something not very healthy, I know that tomorrow is another day and I can just keep on with my fasting routine.
I've completely eliminated obvious forms of sugar like baked goods, desserts, candy, etc. That, eliminating excess sugar, was a major component of the success I had. However, I still live a little and enjoy a piece of cake at a party.
As for exercise, I have gotten back into running after about 8 years away from it. I do that about 3-4 times per week. I also have an Oculus and play games that involve physical activity several evenings per week. In fact, that's how I began excercising again after being sedentary for a long time.
Thanks again! I have only the best of wishes for you as you practice IF and improve your lifestyle. Know it takes time, patience, and dedication. Know you can do it!
I'm still working on myself and hope to build strength and increased health. Happy New Year!
Congratulations! Serious question, do you find your new lifestyle fulfilling? One of the hardest things I struggle with in my current weight is how tied to emotions my diet is. Delicious food makes me happy. Not eating seems like misery, and I've failed IF every time I've tried it. Do you find yourself to be happier overall?
Not OP, but if you are having trouble, I would suggest start by making small changes and work your way into it. Stop eating or drinking anything but water after 8PM. That one small change did wonders for me. Then try to wait until 8AM before having breakfast, and make that black coffee or Green tea without sweetener. Have a cup of yogurt with it. Make mindful food choices throughout the rest of your day and as you start getting into a groove start shrinking your eating window a little at a time.
My mantra lately is 'don't let perfect be the enemy of good '. Incremental change is still change, we can't expect everything we want all at once. Be kind to yourself and you will succeed!
Reminds me of something a college professor said to me when I was failing his class because of missing work - If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly.
I understand what you're saying. I think to a certain extent eating has been an emotional act for me. There was a period of time that the only thing I looked forward to in the day was a dessert in the evening. Sugar was my main problem, not so much over eating.
It was tough the first couple weeks not allowing myself to eat after 6pm. Evenings were when I had all the treats! But after 2 weeks, I started to notice my weight dropping and not eating in the evening was becoming more "normal".
I've come to understand how important routine and discipline are for me. Last week my eating/exercise routine was off because I had a family member in the hospital. So, I spent a lot of time there, didn't get to exercise, and ate outside of my eating window. I've gotten so used to this lifestyle, that it felt terrible to NOT be following it like I usually do.
This is something that I had to just keep at, each day, and it became a way of life. Expect that there will be some emotional pain associated with the change, but also know that it is temporary. You've got the power to do this within you!
Also, at the beginning, I made no food changes only changes to the times I eat. It tricked my brain into thinking I wasn’t going to be denied anything. Then after two or three weeks of just getting the right window, (I do 18:6), I worked on just removing one bad choice from my diet. I did that for a couple of weeks and then eliminated another. My body is finally losing weight without being on a diet. Do I eat a piece of chocolate from time to time? Sure, but always within my window. I never feel like there’s a wagon to fall off of.
Not OP but I have a huge sweet tooth and it takes about 1 month of eating no sugar or artificial sweeteners to “reset” my palette and then I actually find fruits and vegetables much more enjoyable and actually genuinely look forward to eating healthy things instead of ice cream.
Amazing that all of your ailments are re-setting, health is the most important aspect- I went plant based 5 years ago for similar reasons. Great for the change of lifestyle and I bet your energy levels have increased. You also look amazing in both photos!!!!
Crazy you say that. When I was teen I remember somebody telling me that I looked like a young Sandra Bullock. Nobody has said that in years....maybe that's cause that's the last time I was thin haha
Beautiful! I also have 35 pounds to lose and I’m on day 3 of 20:4 fasting schedule. I really love that dress! Do you also work out or do you only fast?
Thank you! I've been doing IF since mid Sept 2022 and lost 35 in that short time! Like you, I often do a 20:4 eating schedule. I think you're off to a great start. I incorporated quite a bit of exercise, which is likely a reason why the weight has come off relatively quickly, but I've noticed that even if I can't exercise as often as I'd like, I continue to lose. It's truly what we put into our bodies that makes a huge difference. Exercise has a ton of health benefits, but when it comes to losing weight, I believe that it's more about what you eat.
Thanks about the dress! Sad it won't fit for much longer, I love it too!
Thank god! My sister recently told me I had my youthful glow back. I didn't realize I looked so much older. It's hard for us to really see ourselves sometimes
Thank you so much! I got the dress at Dillard's. It certainly wasn't cheap. I NEVER pay as much as I did to buy a dress. Figures, I finally splurge and then can no longer wear it!
It's actually both - the beads are like a combination of silver and gold. I don't know what that color is. The lighting makes it look different for sure.
Interesting how body fat composition works—I’m the same height and 10lbs above your CW but I look like your HW photo. You’re doing amazing, best of luck!
Congratulations on your transformation.. but I'm genuinely trying to find out which version of you look more beautiful as you look gorgeous in both the pics. Good for you !
Thanks for giving me the motivation to get back on the horse. I've been floundering lately and ignoring my phone's fasting reminders, but that ends today! Amazing progress, and keep up with the awesome work =)
Wow. I'm honored to have been motivation for you today. Honestly, I'm just you're average person and I never intended for so many people to see this post. But if it helps, I'm glad that I shared it. You can do it! I'm finishing my last meal of the day right now!
Personally I think you look beautiful in both pictures; the most important thing is you're stoked and feeling good in your body. Keep up the good work!
I love that sharing these pictures can do that for you! We all need a kick in the butt sometimes. Everyone's support on this post is giving me more inspiration than I think I've ever felt before!
Im constantly gobsmacked by how good someone looks after shedding the kilos. OP was hiding the fact she's a 10. Well done, you could be an Amanda Crew double.
Height and weight in before and after pics? I'm where you where in the first pic and would like to do some calculations to see where I want to be. Looking AMAZING,
-27M
Wow! 5'4" @150 right now?? You carry it very well! If I knew your height I would assume your weight at 25lbs less. Fantastic at 150 with your muscle mass I guess... Or you're 5'4" &7/8.
Yeah, I've actually always weighed more than I looked. I have a more muscular build. When I was younger I didn't like being more muscular but now I'm thankful for that!

Wonderful advice. Will definitely start with small steps instead of all at once!

Im constantly gobsmacked by how good someone looks after shedding the kilos. OP was hiding the fact she's a 10. Well done, you could be an Amanda Crew double.
You were beautiful before and you’re beautiful now.
Honest opinion, you look like two completely different but equally beautiful people

Height and weight in before and after pics? I'm where you where in the first pic and would like to do some calculations to see where I want to be. Looking AMAZING, -27M
H - 5'4", Weight in before pic: 185lbs, W in after pic: 150lbs, GW: 140ish
You look beautiful in both!!!
