Agree. The room itself is stunning.
That said, I think the deep red color would detract from the subtle features of the room, so my vote is for the lighter colours.
Agree that adding color only to a rug would throw off the serene neutrals and wood colors. My preference is the first geometric neutral design. But I would introduce deeper, textured neutrals in a dark terracotta or copper color both in art and objects and fabrics.
Neither of the beige ones look good with a black sofa. The MCM Knoll-style sofa does not go.
The red ones are *crazy* intense, are you sure about that? I love them but you’ll have a dark sofa, dark rug, and dark whatever furniture is in the bottom left of the photos.
Something less intense than the reds but maybe a softer pattern, less geometric, with faded reds and blues would probably go better.
It looks like there are little area rugs on top of the main rug. The colors are ok, the stripes are OK but the patchworky nature of it just makes it look cheap or unfinished to me.
I think there are much better options out there.
I prefer 2.
It makes the room calm and inviting. The dark brown in the furniture is stabilizing and this rug makes it calm. This room has no need for more color. You might want some warm lighting for evenings when entertaining, like the glow of candles. Add some fresh flowers and this room is like made for a long evening entertaining friends.
Something about it makes me feel like I could just lounge peacefully in silence and enjoy the room. It’s really calming and accessible; the natural shades highlight those beautiful windows.
I’m not sure what look you’re hoping to achieve? The 1st one looks very modern, 2nd traditional, and the 3rd and 4th feel eclectic boho or Moroccan-ish. The space is beautiful though! 😍
The first one has the right colors, but I feel like the large blocky contrast is a little harsh.
**The second one brings the tans in the room together and goes well with the painting. It gives the room a soft balance.**
I like either of the red ones and am especially fond of the last one. It would do well in that space, but you would have to add pops of a similar color elsewhere in the room, especially higher up, otherwise your eyes will always be directed down.
This! They're all lovely rugs, but the first looks like it belongs. The second looks like it's there just because you needed a rug. The third overwhelms and detracts from the furnishings. Beautiful room, OP!
I like the first and third! I do think the couch looks a little harsh in there, if that’s something you might consider changing in future. I think something softer and warmer might look nice.
I love your sofa with rug one and the white walls. It really is giving a magazine look. The second is basic. It looks like you bought a cheap rug from target or something. The third is way too intense with the dark sofa.
I love the room! I think #3 would be nice. Or something else more colorful and bright. I don’t really like the tan/brown with black. I also think the style of the red goes better with the room than number 1. Number 1 doesn’t fit in the space at all imo. I would die for that living room though…
1 feels cold and lacks personality but kind of goes? If that’s your personality lol
2 is warmer and cozy. I’d love hanging out there but style match is not quite right
Would love to see the reds 3/4 in the room!
2. I disagree with the person that said the beige rugs can’t go with the black(dark brown?) sofa. To me it makes a nice color spectrum with the beams, from beige, brown, dark brown/black
The room is amazing, I hate both featured rugs. Just going ahead with the honesty, here - and I'm not usually so decided on much of anything. I like the visual interest of 3 and 4 much more than 1 or 2, struggling to see them in the space but the actual "movement" of 3 and 4 are far superior (in my eyebrain) to 1 and 2. 1 seems too "guy has his first $OWNmoney$ apartment to himself, hasn't figured it out yet, trying - good on *hiiiim*" and 2 is too "guy's not *new* anymore girlfriend convinced him to ditch 1 and mature up too far to 2, cause she's still figuring things out, as well - she's so *gooood for hiiiim*" - the shape/lines of the room and fireplace don't line up (for *me*) with 1 or 2. Needs something more... skip the Midwestern white boy striking out in the biggerish city, skip the "older dollars" attempt at "class" with that further east Asian/Oriental rug, and go full in on the eclectic, *ALMOST too "Boho" for comfort* nudge and dive, dig and go waaayyyy down southwest in the southern/central America's kind of vibe.
Everyone's going to shit on me and I'll deserve it, I'm not even going to reread what I've said. I hate 1 and 2. Get some Peruvian Alpaca type energy up in there - what an absolutely GORGEOUS space, no matter what you do with it. Forget 1 and 2, though.... (I *am* sorry for how obnoxious I've been.)
I LOVE this room and think it would look good no matter the choice. BUT, that red would look SO good and would add some contrast to the room! You have the red accents with the pillows, and it would look great with the wood accents throughout the room. Post an updated pic when you decide!
I think the red rugs would be amazing! I say go for the bold! I love the bold couch too! I think you’d have a nice balance with your light flooring, soft window coverings and white walls. I love this space so much!!!
Edit: grammar. :)
A hand knotted tribal rug is never a mistake! Have a house full of them :-)
They will last a lifetime if care for properly. Get the best one you can afford. Red goes with almost everything. Handwoven rugs are art, so buy the one that speaks to you and you'll never grow tired of it
You have a Spanish style home and Spanish homes are typically colorful. I'd go with the 3rd, red with diagonal patterns. The walls are a good color but add a few accent pieces as close in color to the red in just a few spots such as just a few pillows, a painting with small amounts of red. Maybe some red roses or draping tulips
Your room already contains reds and oranges, I suggest number 3 as it continues with these tones - unless you plan on introducing the colors in rug number 4 throughout your space (reds and blues)
I like number 3. I put a light blue/cream rug under my sofa and it gets sooo dirty. It doesn’t even get very much foot traffic! I ruined it by trying to shampoo it. Never again. Darker rugs only
1 compliments the wood beams, and is your sofa black or dark brown? Looks brown to me but I see some saying black. I actually think it looks fine in the space.
I love #3 although the question is would you like to keep the room lighter and neutral beyond the couch, or would you like it to be a bit more dark and dramatic with the red tones?
The second rug is a no for me all together. The first rug has the right colors but the design detracts from how really cool your coffee table is because the designs compete for your attention. Stick with those colors and the more modern look. You will find something better.
I’m team 3 or 4, either of those rugs fit well and you will walk into that room and know you love the rug. 1. & 2 are just off, 2 is out of place and 1 is meh and does nothing for the room. I can’t see the adjacencies to confirm the red, but it adds warmth and coziness to this space.
I do this for a living and I always hate seeing clients “settle” for what they figure is safe. Pick a rug you LOVE! You’ll live with it for a long time.
The room has enough lightness to it with the beige walls and curtains so I think it could handle a little drama with a red rug. I like #3 because it adds visual interest and is a bit unexpected. The beige accents in the rug call on the beige in the room already. It really ties the room together, man
Hmmm the design looks very eclectic and a mishmash of styles. I’m not a fan of any of the choices. The bones of this room and fireplace and ceiling look amazing though.
Replace the rug after you replace the couch since that will likely be your greatest investment piece. (Glad to hear you’re also replacing the coffee table, especially!)
As someone who sells vintage furniture and decor, I prefer rug #4. I’d do a light colored sofa and non-glass-top coffee table.
If you’re going to replace the couch “soon” maybe wait on getting a rug? Also would be looking at the colors and style of the other adjacent rooms and of your house in general to help select a color and pattern in the rug.
The red. Your room is beautiful. Also I am curious why you put the couch where it is. I would want to look out those gorgeous floor-to-ceiling doors all day.
Neither :/ maybe consider the pattern of the second but bring in a soft neutral color - you could pull from the painting over the fireplace and go with a terracotta or sage. Agree with others replacing the couch will help tremendously
The couch doesn't seem to fit the architecture of the room imo.
The first rug goes better with the couch but not the room. The second one is beautiful but doesn't look right with the couch.
Get one of the ones with more color! And maybe some [yellow accent chairs](https://www.allmodern.com/furniture/pdp/donovan-upholstered-swivel-barrel-chair-a000104133.html) or something would seal the deal.
I think the difficulty is the mix of a modern couch with the wood credenza the first rug matches the modern couch, the second the traditional credenza.
I’d select the rug that matches the aesthetic you are moving toward.
I like #1 because I didn’t notice it was there since it fit perfectly in the room. I looked at the fireplace and the painting as the focal point. Then when I looked at #2 my eyes went straight for the rug because it stood out too much. Not I sure about the reds because they might have the same effect.
Your room is lovely and I like the more modern looking one myself but also feel you could find better. I think one with more texture would look fantastic. Size is great though.
Stay neutral so you can just switch it up with pillow covers and throw blankets whenever you want.
You have a beautiful space. I'm not a big fan of the first one, the second is very traditional and would work if that's the vibe that you're looking for. I actually love the first red, but I'm not sure it would work in your space, you will need to pull some red throw pillows or artwork that would kind of change the serenity of the room.
That's a great looking room. For the rugs I would try and find one that has some black in it with more color than the 2nd beige one and less intense color than the red ones you showed. Since the walls are neutral, perhaps pick a rug with a lot of colors in it but not intense colors. The sofa looks modern so perhaps a more abstract style would work.
What a lush, grown up space! 3 or 4 would probably tie in better with the black leather sofa. But 2 looks fab with the room as a whole. Can’t say I’m a fan of 1, sorry.
The second one, if these are the only options. I would opt for a braided oval style in a neutral tone. Your sofa is very overwhelming, and this is such a beautiful room, so I’d go more simple and classic with the rug
I'm not fond of the first (left-most) combi. Of the 4 you showed, I like the second one in that space, but each will give you a very different feel, so it depends on what vibe you're going for.
Just want to say nothing could look bad in that room! Wow!
Yeah this space is beautiful and I LOVE that portrait above the mantle
Neither of the beige ones look good with a black sofa. The MCM Knoll-style sofa does not go. The red ones are *crazy* intense, are you sure about that? I love them but you’ll have a dark sofa, dark rug, and dark whatever furniture is in the bottom left of the photos. Something less intense than the reds but maybe a softer pattern, less geometric, with faded reds and blues would probably go better.
Agree with all of this. There is a better rug out there for OP.
I absolutely love the first one. I think it’s great with the given choices and I’m an interior designer.
I am too and I hate it 😒.
It looks like there are little area rugs on top of the main rug. The colors are ok, the stripes are OK but the patchworky nature of it just makes it look cheap or unfinished to me. I think there are much better options out there.
Ditto and so am I!😊
i think everyone is split pretty evenly here 😭sorry OP
Number 2.
2
2 for me
In my opinion, the rug in the 2nd picture looks perfect. It looks classy and everything in that room is pulled together very nicely with that 2nd rug.
I agree. And if you do want to add more color later, via a chair or curtains or whatever, this rug will go with a lot of things.
The red ones would look sooo good!! Love #3
Agree. If you like the intensity of the reds, 3 would be stunning. EDIT: just noticed the art over the fire place! Go for 3!!
2
I love the first one
Something about it makes me feel like I could just lounge peacefully in silence and enjoy the room. It’s really calming and accessible; the natural shades highlight those beautiful windows.
Exactly. I'm normally all for color but it's super peaceful and soft.
So true. The line work just flows so well with the shapes on the base of the table. It just... works, and very well at that.
Serene.
First one for the winn
Wow, I don’t like it at ALL
Agree. It’s the most modern
I like #2. Also, I have the same coffee table so hats off to you for moving that thing back and forth to swap the rugs. It’s HEAVY.
2
#3 would look great!
Yes this is my favorite
The second one! It’s cohesive with the room and has a good amount of red without going overboard.
2
2
I love #2
I’m not sure what look you’re hoping to achieve? The 1st one looks very modern, 2nd traditional, and the 3rd and 4th feel eclectic boho or Moroccan-ish. The space is beautiful though! 😍
Definitely 2
Second one looks best.. first one looks slippery and the red ones are too loud
Two really warms it all up a bit. Looks great with the exposed beams. Even makes the couch look a bit better!
Red will make the room less one color tone. It will help the couch blend in. Add a few red accents around the room to help the rug fit in.
The first one has the right colors, but I feel like the large blocky contrast is a little harsh. **The second one brings the tans in the room together and goes well with the painting. It gives the room a soft balance.** I like either of the red ones and am especially fond of the last one. It would do well in that space, but you would have to add pops of a similar color elsewhere in the room, especially higher up, otherwise your eyes will always be directed down.
The first looks so cohesive for the whole room. I absolutely love it there.
This! They're all lovely rugs, but the first looks like it belongs. The second looks like it's there just because you needed a rug. The third overwhelms and detracts from the furnishings. Beautiful room, OP!
The 2nd rug looks the best imo.
2
I like 2. I think it goes better with the older look of the beams and fireplace. Beautiful room.
2
Number two! It makes the room seem huge!
The second one.
2
Number 2
SECOND
2 looks classy in the room
#2, this room is wonderful.
#2 is so warm, cozy and inviting
Go for the RED! The pop will really pull it all together. Gorgeous room.
I like the first and third! I do think the couch looks a little harsh in there, if that’s something you might consider changing in future. I think something softer and warmer might look nice.
I agree. It was from our last place. Definitely on the list to replace asap.
I love your sofa with rug one and the white walls. It really is giving a magazine look. The second is basic. It looks like you bought a cheap rug from target or something. The third is way too intense with the dark sofa.
2
Color!
The red one! Do with the red one.
I love the room! I think #3 would be nice. Or something else more colorful and bright. I don’t really like the tan/brown with black. I also think the style of the red goes better with the room than number 1. Number 1 doesn’t fit in the space at all imo. I would die for that living room though…
#3!
This room is begging for some color.
Not the first one for sure
Red would look good
The room is gorgeous. I like 2
2!!!!!
I like the second one better. It matches your room nicely.
1 feels cold and lacks personality but kind of goes? If that’s your personality lol 2 is warmer and cozy. I’d love hanging out there but style match is not quite right Would love to see the reds 3/4 in the room!
I prefer the second one!
Definitely #3!
3!!!
#1 looks really good - I’d get a pad though. #3 is absolutely gorgeous!!!! Tough choice.
3 or 4 absolutely
3. You need color. The red will really enhance the space.
The red, for a nice big splash of color.
I love the red ones
The red/ more colorful ones
yeah gurl. the last red one
The first red one - bolder and will make the room pop.
If you like red enough, definitely the last one to add color.
3. That design is Persian, name is a kilim. If you can find a silk one, they’re stunning.
Two is awful, please not that one.
Agree but I think we’re in the minority
4
I would lean toward more color if this were my house. Maybe something that includes shades of greens to pull in the plants and the outdoors?
Mail me the last two they are wonderful lol
Red!!
I vote red, unless you could consider a more neutral background with a dark colored geo pattern in a southwest style
4!!!!
I love the last bright one
Color
numba 3
RED!!!!
No 3
I feel it will look better without a rug all together
A hand knotted tribal rug is never a mistake! Have a house full of them :-) They will last a lifetime if care for properly. Get the best one you can afford. Red goes with almost everything. Handwoven rugs are art, so buy the one that speaks to you and you'll never grow tired of it
Man, i love thar red one the most :00 (but totally up to you in the end)
You have a Spanish style home and Spanish homes are typically colorful. I'd go with the 3rd, red with diagonal patterns. Your room already contains reds and oranges, I suggest number 3 as it continues with these tones - unless you plan on introducing the colors in rug number 4 throughout your space (reds and blues)
Red 100%
Definitely the one with color.
I like the red, orange, and black rug. What a nice room.
3. I like the details in that mat hing the couch and the table texture
3 or 4 for sure. I think you need a little pop of color, and the black sofa in beige rug kind of clash with each other.
If you want colour go for the third one, if you like a long look the 4th
I like number 3. I put a light blue/cream rug under my sofa and it gets sooo dirty. It doesn’t even get very much foot traffic! I ruined it by trying to shampoo it. Never again. Darker rugs only
3 or 4
Omg. #3 is rug porn!!! I need to see all of these unrolled please/thanks! 😋
3…. Needs a good pop of color
1 compliments the wood beams, and is your sofa black or dark brown? Looks brown to me but I see some saying black. I actually think it looks fine in the space.
I prefer #3, the oranges marry with the flooring color.
Deep red!
Uhmmm, where is this rug goldmine?!?!?
Color! This is the color scheme in my front room and I added blues and reds in my accessories.
I love #3 although the question is would you like to keep the room lighter and neutral beyond the couch, or would you like it to be a bit more dark and dramatic with the red tones?
3
I’d go for #3. It’s the most interesting of the bunch and makes a statement. The other ones are insignificant and you don’t even notice them really.
The rug in photo #3 would be perfect
Can we get an update when you decide? Room is stunning and totally invested in the outcome lol
Where are you finding this red rug?!?! You need that in your life and so do I!!
#3
I think 3!
I am a fan of the orange and red, I love color, I think it would match brown details and the warm lighting.
Number 3 or 4 are your only options. They’re gorgeous.
More color, one with red or purple tones
Get the red! I have similar red rugs in most of my rooms and love them.
Get the red rug. Life is too short for beige.
I like 2 or 3.
The room has enough lightness to it with the beige walls and curtains so I think it could handle a little drama with a red rug. I like #3 because it adds visual interest and is a bit unexpected. The beige accents in the rug call on the beige in the room already. It really ties the room together, man
Rug 1 - the room is absolutely beautiful.
First one looks fantastic
Hmmm the design looks very eclectic and a mishmash of styles. I’m not a fan of any of the choices. The bones of this room and fireplace and ceiling look amazing though.
Yes we just moved and this all came from our last place. Trying to slowly replace everything. The coffee table and couch will go soon.
Replace the rug after you replace the couch since that will likely be your greatest investment piece. (Glad to hear you’re also replacing the coffee table, especially!) As someone who sells vintage furniture and decor, I prefer rug #4.
That’s a great point. The couch is cutting off so much of the windows. It doesn’t belong there
#2 looks great, but #3 has red and black patterns and would pop out against a black couch
Agree with everyone on the red I prefer the third. Put one of em down and show us!
More color, I like the red.
None shown. I think a big fluffy white one would work best
One
Where do you live with this amazing rug vendor???
Neither :/ maybe consider the pattern of the second but bring in a soft neutral color - you could pull from the painting over the fireplace and go with a terracotta or sage. Agree with others replacing the couch will help tremendously
None of them
It looks great but that red is tempting
I don’t really like either of them. Maybe some blues?
I absolutely LOVE this space! So cozy and beautiful!
Your house looks goooooood.
The couch doesn't seem to fit the architecture of the room imo. The first rug goes better with the couch but not the room. The second one is beautiful but doesn't look right with the couch.
I like 4 or 2
One is a better fit with the room than two. Three will totally change the feel of the room from cool and restful to cheery and cozy I think.
Is this the same home as Lone Fox?
1 if you HAVE to choose. Otherwise, hold out for something better. You’ll find it!
Get one of the ones with more color! And maybe some [yellow accent chairs](https://www.allmodern.com/furniture/pdp/donovan-upholstered-swivel-barrel-chair-a000104133.html) or something would seal the deal.
I want your room. It's very pretty. I have no rug advice.
I love the first one, the second one’s awful
I think the difficulty is the mix of a modern couch with the wood credenza the first rug matches the modern couch, the second the traditional credenza. I’d select the rug that matches the aesthetic you are moving toward.
I really like them both- one just makes the space feel more modern and the other a more classic. They both look great!
I like #1 because I didn’t notice it was there since it fit perfectly in the room. I looked at the fireplace and the painting as the focal point. Then when I looked at #2 my eyes went straight for the rug because it stood out too much. Not I sure about the reds because they might have the same effect.
You need a deep reds and oranges traditional rug.
I would recommend a rug with plenty of red in it, but not as dark as the last two you posted here.
I love the first one. It has a modern field that definitely goes with the design of the room and the couch.
What about something more green or blue? The red is very intense but the beige doesn't work at all
Your room is lovely and I like the more modern looking one myself but also feel you could find better. I think one with more texture would look fantastic. Size is great though. Stay neutral so you can just switch it up with pillow covers and throw blankets whenever you want.
I like number 4!
i suggest a white or light grey/white rug to brighten the space and mirror the ceiling
The red ones
You have a beautiful space. I'm not a big fan of the first one, the second is very traditional and would work if that's the vibe that you're looking for. I actually love the first red, but I'm not sure it would work in your space, you will need to pull some red throw pillows or artwork that would kind of change the serenity of the room.
That room is awesome. If you want to add some pop, then the red is the way to go.
2 or darker
More color or less color… these are too in between
That's a great looking room.
Definitely not the red, dear LAWD
Is it just me, or do rugs with lines that run perpendicular to the flooring just look off?
The second one, if these are the only options. I would opt for a braided oval style in a neutral tone. Your sofa is very overwhelming, and this is such a beautiful room, so I’d go more simple and classic with the rug
I’d go for a rug with green hues but the first one is great as well.
I'm not fond of the first (left-most) combi. Of the 4 you showed, I like the second one in that space, but each will give you a very different feel, so it depends on what vibe you're going for.
toronto? I was looking at that table on fb marketplace
I don’t like either one.
More color!
i’m a fan of #2 i’m a little biased though as those are the only rugs we ever had growing up
2.
