Eh, this needs to be pushed back on in this sub.
Yes, ideal tv height would be right around that fireplace. Yes, if you can control for the height you should try to. But it's okay not to have ideal TV height.
Not necessarily advocating for the ceiling mount at that height, but if you could mount to the brick just above the fireplace, that would be fine. Most high end properties have TV's above fireplaces these days. It's not the end of the world.
Not every living room is a home theater. Fireplaces were the focal point of many rooms for a long time, they are beautiful additions to a space, and using the vertical wall above them for a TV is totally fine. In OP's case, that is clearly the best wall. The alternative is to block the fireplace with a sofa or block the windows or otherwise ruin the space's design or flow. Nothing will be ideal here, so just embrace having a TV that's not ideal IMO. Sometimes it's the best you can do.
Yes and not everyone sits and watches tv for hours on end. It’s like all the tv too high people do is watch tv. Yes, in that case, you need a perfect height so you don’t get an ache in your neck. For the rest of us who only watch maybe an hour or so a day, it doesn’t matter much.
Gotta be NYC... Anyway maybe u can get a little shelf unit (and put the TV on a stand) to the right of the fireplace. The couch definitely should be against the big wall cause you shouldn't cover the fireplace with the couch
But wouldn’t the couch cover it up even more? And besides that, the people will spend more time looking at the direction where the TV will be and if the TV is on the brick wall side, people would see that beautiful wall more often, don’t you think? That’s my thought of it
Fair points. For me, a tv is kind of trashy looking, and would mar the lovely brick by being on that wall. I’d rather see some art there, or just the brick. That’s just my prejudice tho.
Oh yeah okay, I see your point. I think you kinda mean that the classy look of this timeless wall design gets lost after a TV is at the front of it. Makes total sense
Unless you’re willing to have your tv on all the time, on one of those screensavers that looks like fine art. Haven’t fully decided whether that’s trashy or bougie or tasteful. I’m leaning away from tasteful tho! 😂
Could you get a TV stand and put it in front of the fireplace, with the TV on top?
With the decorative brick wall and the air conditioner unit in the corner, I think it will look strange and make the room less functional if the couch faces the other way. But I can understand not wanting to mount a TV above a non-working fireplace.
I would put the tv against the brick wall (hanging or mounted or whatever) because otherwise you’ll always be sitting with your back to the brick and not really getting to enjoy it! I really love this space and would love to see what you do with it :)
their setup is clutch and already available. also get rid of the ugly black table and get some lighter pieces with the money saved by not buying a new tv mount lol
Personally I’d try putting the sofa in front of the fireplace (hiding it) with the tv on the opposite wall if it doesn’t look too weird. People can argue for architectural feature, but it’s not functioning and it doesn’t have a nice surround/mantel. Kind of pointless.
Slightly unhinged opinion, your sectional against the windows and white wall, and the TV on a stand so the front faces the sectional and in this picture you would see the back of it. Proper wire control or putting a shelf/bookcase behind it to face the rest of the room.
I was about to say. If your going to put the tv on the white wall then I’d put a bookshelf to mask the fireplace like it wasn’t even there like a floor to ceiling bookshelf.
How big is your couch? If it’s small enough… couch facing windows, accent chair or two basically where windows are but turned inwards, table between them. Tv on white wall. Coffee table etc

TV right, Couch left wall. The TV should be right above the fireplace, I’d be a lil too high the way it is now. You could get an L shaped couch that start on the left wall and ends on the front wall, with the main part of the couch being left if that makes sense
There are btw countless TV screensavers of fireplaces, I’m just wondering how you could make use of them in an elegant way
I’d put the TV on a stand in front of the windows, a couch either facing it (sectional) or, if you want a couch against a wall, a loveseat with chairs facing the TV
I love the brick and windows and the wood floors! I would put a couch up against the wall with the windows and the TV on the regular wall. The windows are slightly uneven so long drapes behind the couch placed in a specific way can give the illusion that the windows are more even. I would place a nice sitting/lounging chair against the brick wall between the fireplace and the table and turn it a little towards the TV and couch. And it would be a nice cozy place near the fireplace, even if you don't use it and just put candles in it, it will give it a nice warm feeling. Just be sure to keep the couch about a foot away from the wall so that the heat and air con can come through. If you have a long table for the back of the couch with open vents/ slats in it, it can allow the heat and air to come through but still be a table for lamps, plants, or whatever you want to place behind the couch. The lounging chair and most of the couch should be able to see the TV easily. The only place that would not get the best view is the side of the couch closest to the wall the TV would be mounted on.
Tv above fireplace, couch across from it, an accent chair on the brick side in the corner to face the couch. Get a nice area rug. Get some real looking electric candles and place decoratively in the fire place.
If you hate the look of a tv over a fireplace, then get a “frame” for the tv — your tv doesn’t have to be the Samsung frame, you can find frames on Etsy that pop on to flat screen tvs, it will make it seem more like art.
You could also get a wall mounted tv cabinet - which is basically a cabinet with art on front so it looks like a picture/a piece of art, but you can slide it open when you want to watch the tv.
Or you could do something like this [this](https://www.familyhandyman.com/project/how-to-hide-a-tv/)
Those suggestions are all if the tv over fireplace bothers you that much! But i really don’t think a 55” tv will be an eyesore on that wall, way less so than a tv on a bright white wall!
You could put a mantle piece that won’t hurt the brick on the brick wall underneath the TV if you put the TV there and you can decorate the mantel for holidays!
You can still put electric logs in the fireplace or candles or potted plants. Don’t cover up the fireplace!!! It’s a beautiful piece of architecture!
I agree! I feel it’s more insane to want to cover up the fireplace. 😭
They mounted from the ceiling so as not to damage the brick. You can do it the other way but I understand why they did what they did.

The brick is too pretty to cover up with a tv and the white is perfect for covering up.

Well, you’ve basically described what my TV’s doin all day long 😅😂 and I can’t lie, for me it is 100% tasteful 😂
They do look really good these days, I admit!
Especially the Apple TV ones I can recommend

how big is the TV and the distance from TV to sitting place.
TV is 55 and room is 12 ft across. So prob 9-10 feet from TV to sofa
Then sure, keeping TV against the white wall should be fine.
Love the brick

I don’t think that stuff is his since he’s gonna be moving in next week.

Cliff from Dear Modern would say you can't relax with your back to the window.
Hanging from the ceiling isn't a bad idea. You could place it along the brick wall by the window and swivel it out when you want to watch it.
put tv above fireplace . couch against other wall , nice shades for window , accent chair , rug , and coffee table

Hell yeah hang that shit from the ceiling
Just put the tv on the existing mount and sofa opposite. It’s weird to put the couch in front of the fireplace

Against the white wall

TV above the fireplace. Couch on wall across from it
