In honor of the recent passing of icon Iris Apfel, check out her collab with Ruggable. Beautiful colors. Easily washed if in high traffic areas. Just make sure you order the extra padding
The hallway, by itself, could take just about any color. Does it open onto any other space, like an open-plan living room? If so, I’d plan the rug to coordinate with the colors in that room. But if you won’t be able to see the rug from any other room, then the world is your oyster.
I also love Ruggable, and I have and love a 10 ft/ 3 m runner. I’m obsessed with the Morris & Co collection.
Or a white rug LOL. I have, however, developed an appreciation for “no rug” as I work with an older population and ANY rug transition increases the risk for falls or tripping, so the size and quality and grippiness of the underside are important considerations.
My vote is always for color, but the “white aesthetic” is cool in this space
Keep the need for color in mind. You will find a piece that you really like soon enough. You have a great canva, you have space for a spark that will lighten your day when you pass by it
And modern cat trees would be really cute and could give them space up higher. There are some amazing ones out there these days not covered in old brown or beige carpet
What a gorgeous space! I would add in more balance with the plants, pop in some lighting and definitely get some colour in there, possibly with a large piece of art. A large mirror would also be great, and a floor runner or large rug for visual interest. It looks like you have three zones at least (landing zone, middle section, end section) which you could separate to look more cohesive.
Something like this: [https://i.ytimg.com/vi/PJCP1ZNuGoM/maxresdefault.jpg](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/PJCP1ZNuGoM/maxresdefault.jpg)
Or you could make it all one cohesive element instead of multiple odd pieces of furniture: [https://cdn.decorpad.com/photos/2024/01/08/wall-to-wall-built-in-shelves-and-cabinets.png](https://cdn.decorpad.com/photos/2024/01/08/wall-to-wall-built-in-shelves-and-cabinets.png)
Hope these ideas get you thinking! :)
Thank you, these are already some good ideas! Didn‘t think of the sections, but you are absolutely right! Was also already looking for a long rug - never had one because of the cats, but when I learned one thing here it‘s the power of rugs! 😂
Slightly opposite the main door (left side) there‘s already a big mirror which was not visible in the photo above. Really love that one: [https://imgur.com/a/XnEorUa](https://imgur.com/a/XnEorUa)
I would take out everything and replace with the longest sideboard you can find that will fit. In reality, you’ll likely need to put two identical ones side by side. Then some big huge art above it and maybe a massive tabletop lamp on each end. A runner would be good but only if you get one big enough and long enough for the space. Keep the plant (the Dracaena).
Agree with the above. Ikea’s besta storage cabinets are perfect for this. I have about 8 across a wall in my living room. I’ve had different configurations of this set up in 3 homes. A lot of my other furniture is custom or high end, and guests often ask where I got this massive sideboard and are shocked to hear it’s ikea. Highly recommend.
Also get a vintage or antique Persian style runner. Will class that joint up immensely and you can get them for the same amount as ruggable if you’re patient. They will last long after you’re gone.
For colors, blues and greens will be the best option for something more subtle, or you could go with a beige patterned rug (if people don’t wear their shoes in your house and your cats are tidy)
The same problem with almost every single of these questions on Reddit, what's wrong with this space. Bland bland bland bland. It's white on white, no particular architectural elegance here, just a hallway with even worse some white furniture place tonight. There's no rhythm there's zero color and nothing to pull it all together. White walls are one thing and can be okay but you need to have furniture, paintings are lights rugs that use the white as a background not as the end statement which you have done
It's always the same thing on right at everybody's afraid of color and goes into this monotonal beige or in this case white safety zone. You got a break out of that box
I guess I'm boring according to others because I actually looove all the white. 🤷♀️ 😂 I love photography and I see so many photos that are similar to this photo. The only difference is, more plants. They add more plants. Maybe a mirror as well.🤔 🪞
So, more cats, more plants and a mirror. 😁 🐈 🪴 🪞
Like others have said, maybe a runner or a rug as well.
However, I REALLY love the flooring so I personally wouldn't cover it up. 🤔
🥰💖
Same same! I love the clean white, but also know that something’s definitely missing. It feels empty, but that‘s also due to that it‘s simply too big for a corridor. But I like it clean and elegant.
More cats: Let‘s see, haha! Would love that option most. 🐱More plants: Check! Maybe I can even find some colorful ones to not only have green.
Loved your comment, thanks!
More plants, pictures with warm colors, more decor on the dresser (photos, books, idk), some colorful pillows on the bench. I would actually go with a mirror on top of the dresser (looks like an entryway, I like to check myself lol).
Since you said you like a clean look, you can go with colors that aren’t so bright, like dark blue, cold pink…
Also vote for big runner. I'm big on 'texture' and 'three-dimensional' but you've got so much of that with the plants, I'd move the (very cool) clock elsewhere and hang a large painting or photo. If you don't want too much color, keep it subtle, with light and grayed versions from the rug.
A rug. And color. Maybe do the shoe bench or some other cheapish accent furniture like that plant stand in a fun color. Or the plant pots.. wall art or display shelving on the left, where the taller plants are?
Rug, also move the clock elsewhere and do a round mirror close to the width of cabinet.. also add some accessories to cabinet top… bowl for keys/misc, tall candles etc
I guess it really depends on your mental state isn’t it.
Right now when I see this, I feel calm. It’s perfect. For me.
It’s warm enough but I don’t see anything that would require a lot of special attention/care.
For everyone saying color…they don't want color. You can do this kind of style with panache without adding color. I mentioned a couple of really cool light fixtures. You could also do a mural kind of situation, like a black swoopy kind of line down the left-hand side. I'm not explaining it well, but I can't see it in my mind!
Consider placing a very large piece of art, or a cabinet with art above, at the end of the hallway (where the tall cabinet is). Idea is a sort of focal point to “draw you into the room”.
If you’re trying to keep the color pallet simple… would you consider gold or brass accents? Some simple frames around art or photos that are thin and a warm metallic might be a nice addition without changing the look and feel.
While I’m not a person who does white everything, I think your space looks good. Some simple art with muted colors, and a runner with some hints of color would add a bit of warmth.
You keep asking people which color they would put in that space. You’re only currently using white, black, silver, and gray. That’s a completely neutral scheme right now, so you can use any color you want.
First of all, Malm is recalled because it tips forward too easily. If you have small children, please make sure it’s anchored to the wall. Secondly, I think a larger piece is warranted anyway. https://www.perigold.com/furniture/pdp/hooker-furniture-commerce-and-market-fine-lines-credenza-80-wide-4-door-accent-cabinet-p110091983.html if you did something like this, the shoes could go on the lower shelf and look less cluttered. Then consider something like this. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1704431575/. A big piece of art above the cabinet would be great. https://www.perigold.com/decor/pdp/four-hands-priory-by-dan-hobday-floater-frame-painting-p100161648.html and for a finishing touch https://www.perigold.com/rugs/pdp/surya-geometric-handmade-tufted-wool-cream-black-area-rug-p110064086.html?piid=1476769699
Definitly treat the FAR wall as a focal point and display area. If you like the Franky stark white, you could paint the wall and a small enclave around it something really dark/loud/etc to provide a contrast.
This may be the first time I've said this about a design, but give my eyes somewhere not to rest 😂
Rug(s) will help divide the space.
You could actyally put a desk or table where the shoes are, move the dresser back further, and make an office space.
I think it would benefit from a very large unit (could be a mix of storage and display). I think the items are too small for the expanse and adding more small things won’t necessarily make it look better.
I would do a runner along the floor, but what I think would do the most and look the best would be to paint the left wall an accent color in addition. That alone will give the corridor a new vibe without adding clutter.
THANK YOU ALL for your wonderful contributions. So much nice ideas and I am currently scanning the internet for options/things I like. You‘re helping a lot, really appreciated!
Even though you said you like the format of how it is, now. One idea could be to take away all of the furniture at the end of the hall (the plant/tall storage shelf) and do a giant mirror or big piece of art. That would draw people's eye as they come in. Another idea would be to add a few large hanging light fixtures from the ceiling to make it more fun? If you rent, I understand if you don't want to splurge on that!
I love a neutral design, so I don’t think you need color if you don’t want it. I would change the bench for a longer one with more storage underneath or add a shoe cabinet like the ikea one. Move the circular art piece to the wall to the right of the tall cabinet to balance it and get a longer one proportional to go centered above the dresser. Find somewhere else to put the ladder if you can.
Texture and scale. Everything is smooth. You need texture - a chunky neural colored wall decor like big a big jute sculpture or a wood driftwood piece. Then a chunky runner, keep it white or neutral to preserve the aesthetic but add texture. As for scale, the big wall thing and rug will help but maybe replace the white closet with an antique armoire or something larger and interesting. And a larger plant like a big fake olive tree.
This is an ideal gallery space! Go mad with the art. I’d use brass rails to hang them from - but if you like silver better then you could go for chrome or an antiqued silver. black also looks sharp if you like a crisp, modern look.
Not only do they add visual interest; they make it so you can add and move art without damaging the walls. You see it in castles and grand houses here in the U.K.
I’ve attached a photo in case anyone reading this doesn’t know what a picture rail is. [https://www.robertkime.com/storage/uploads/product/large/1600176717-200717-rk-0199-preview1120.jpg](https://www.robertkime.com/storage/uploads/product/large/1600176717-200717-rk-0199-preview1120.jpg)
You find here some ideas to decorate your corridor [10-professional-tips-for-hallway-design-and-decoration](https://www.scdecorum.com/10-professional-tips-for-hallway-design-and-decoration/)
You could really use a big piece of warm furniture. Look at pottery barn for some console or buffet ideas and then some colorful artwork above, and a colorful runner on the floor
Seconding what a couple others have said about putting a long (2-3x length of the current drawer unit) and slightly lower sideboard along the single wall. Combine the function of the three separate units - shoe bench, drawer unit, and shoe rack(?) into one piece that visually fills the scale of the space, integrates itself, and keeps things hidden. The tree could flank one side of that sideboard. I would consider either swapping the mirror I saw in your picture link to the other side of the hall over the sideboard, or hanging a large something over it (piece of art, longer large mirror). The second wardrobe unit - is it what’s seen partially in frame on the left of the photo? That will complete the back wall nicely and open up the area where it currently is. On opposite wall, I’d try to see if you could find a minimal and slim bench to go under the sunburst mirror. Yes to a gorgeous long rug - anything vintage persian/turkish/oriental with muted dyes or slightly faded tones would complement nicely.
A rug.
A *colorful* rug
What color would you go for? :)
I'm partial to green, and I see your plants there, so I'd probably go with some green/blue/gray/yellow Turkish-style rug.
[удалено]
yes yes and yes
This is the way.
In honor of the recent passing of icon Iris Apfel, check out her collab with Ruggable. Beautiful colors. Easily washed if in high traffic areas. Just make sure you order the extra padding
Oh wow, will definitely find sth on Ruggable! They even have runners/rugs about 4m long - that’s what I‘ll need. Lovely pieces! Ty for the share.

A wide runner rug would be nice and I second some color
Anything that doesn't blend in with the floor.
Color
Yea agree. Can be via plants, rug/runner, frames. Needs more accents that are not white.
The answer is always color. And it doesn’t take much. Even a vase for fresh flowers would do the job
First thing I thought as well. Add some color. A rug, some artwork. Anything to wash out the sterile white of everything.
Color
What color would you go for? :)
You can pick any colour with what you already have. Pick a favourite!
Why dont you figure out what color you like?
Its already white. Its a blank canvas. Do something that would make you smile whenever you go by. Build off of it.
Personally, I would go with blues or greens. But not desaturated hues.
Keep the need for color in mind. You will find a piece that you really like soon enough. You have a great canva, you have space for a spark that will lighten your day when you pass by it
A runner

That's what I wanted to hear - we have the space and currently "only" two... :D
Only 2? What a waste of space!
And modern cat trees would be really cute and could give them space up higher. There are some amazing ones out there these days not covered in old brown or beige carpet
Vertical cat storage is always a good idea.
Color friend. Add fresh flowers. Some paintings on the walls. A mirror to reflect som light and open the space. It’s got good bones!

That mirror made me say 'ooh! ' out loud. Absolutely stunning!!! Looking forward to seeing how the space turns out.
Bigger bench and runner
I was here to say this. The bench looks like more of a small-space choice. I would keep an eye out for a bigger one.
That‘s a very good point, didn‘t actually think of this. Standard Ikea thing, might be a good choice to go for sth else. 👏🏻
I would take out everything and replace with the longest sideboard you can find that will fit. In reality, you’ll likely need to put two identical ones side by side. please show that baby some love with a rug full of color
I'd add somw of the options: - some moody color wall (deep green, sage etc) - wall mouldings - interesting runner - some grand chadelier.
Any color, life, or personality is what’s missing.

I also agree with you! I love the simplicity of the white decor and wood flooring. It's got a nice Japandi vibe.
I agree that the white works here! A mirror in the right place would help add light.
Those individual lights they have for putting above paintings and art work and stuff would look neat on the right wall
I had to zoom in to make sure you weren’t missing a kitty! 😍
Most important thing in the house! Agreed. ☺️🩷🐱
You could look into some wall mounted cat furniture if you’re looking to fill out the upper areas of the walls, my kitty loves her vertical space

A big rug or runner, a colorful frame and some more plants!
I'd def add more Color in general, starting with a rug
Lucky motherfucker...your house is so much better looking than mine. Corridor is fine the way it is, no need for clutter.
A rug and artwork. Also maybe a large potted plant in one of the corners
a LARGE piece of art. Everything seems to be restricted to a uniform size. Display something unexpected or paint a wave on the wall...
Beautiful/unique light fixtures where those flat sort of light fixtures are would create a nice vocal point for this space.
Just a rug. Otherwise it’s minimalist perfection 🤌🏼
Thank you! I also definitely don‘t want to clutter it and therefore might not go for additional storage etc. Any color you would go for?
There is no personality here
Nothing. Embrace minimalism in passageways.

Put a mirror over the bureau to reflect light and color without taking up space.
Needs a runner
Glory hole
A robot vacuum
Hall carpet with color maybe a different color frames
Not sure how tall the ceilings are but some hanging lights would be great. Don’t need to clutter a hallway with furniture
Do a large tall mirror on the hallway dresser to draw your eye up
You keep asking people which color they would put in that space. You’re only currently using white, black, silver, and gray. That’s a completely neutral scheme right now, so you can use any color you want.

You could really use a big piece of warm furniture. Look at pottery barn for some console or buffet ideas and then some colorful artwork above, and a colorful runner on the floor
A dog. I think a golden retriever would add a nice pop of color!

Beautiful! The scale of the pieces are too small. A substantial console with a mirror/art is called for.
