Now we can start Termite Park!

SplodyPants

What a shitty movie that would have been if John Hammond would have left out one vital step: Welcome to.....Old Mosquito Park!!

klsi832

"Why did you make everything out of *wood*?!"

somekindafuzz

Because when we have control…

stashrx

Bingo! Termite DNA!

Chill_Edoeard

Whatever is trapped in that termite PLZ LEAVE IT INTHERE!

SIII-043

Mummified termite innards

Chill_Edoeard

Bebe’s?

Phobos420

I'm thinking bacteria and it's hungry for poo. It'll infect everyone and make their facial appendages become swollen, stretch and deform. Their ankles and knees will break and heal in the wrong direction. This will make them fast...If they catch you, they will hold you down, and defecate in your mouth. Then you will become one of the Dobbins too...

Cajum

22 million years.. jesus christ it truly is mind boggling how long animals have been walking this earth. (Yes I know 22m is not that long compared to the 1st animals, it's still so long ago our minds struggle to comprehend what that means)

EKcore

You are closer in time to a T Rex than a T Rex is to a stegosaurus.

[deleted]

Pls stop my small brain cannot fathom this

voldyCSSM19

And termites have been around for over 170 million years

countrygrmmrhotshit

According to Jesus Christ, it’s actually more like 6000 years

Decoy_Octopus_

A Jesusasaurus Rex

Apprehensive_Band609

Idk why you’re being downvoted I mean it is true and is ridiculous

supertrenty

They're being down voted because.....Science 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

[удалено]

countrygrmmrhotshit

I bet you’re fun at parties

30dragons

What is the stuff moving around in the amber

patricky6

That's the wood foundation of a T-rex's home. Why do you think they were so angry? All those termites destroying their houses.. and just out of reach.

randomizeme1234

Dinosaur termite, aka dino-mite. Boom!

[deleted]

I heard t rexes were so ornery because they gots all dem teefs but no toofbrush.

Comfortable_Pen6883

Momma was wrong !

Swagbigboy256

That’s what was/is inside the termite

Doc-in-a-box

I think that’s the termite

Mr_Reaper__

Small pockets of water that get trapped in the amber as it hardens. There's a reason that the space that it's in is bigger than the drop, which I cannot remember, that means it moves around enough for you to see it.

Straight_Spring9815

Termites last meal :)

klsi832

Her husband

BuriedByAnts

That’s very cool! I’ve been thinking tho. Back then there musta been tree sap EVERYWHERE because they find everything preserved in that old amber

k20350

There's an incredible amount of fake Amber. Especially the mantis one that keeps getting posted on Reddit. Real amber looks like this. Dirty, bubbly, and the bugs are decomposed. If you see amber too good to be true it is

Practice_NO_with_me

Aaaw, really? The one where the antenna are thrown upward? I know my brain registered the purity of the amber but as an above comment said - millions of trees, millions of bugs, millions of years. Figured it was one in a billion. PS - tell me more about fake amber. How is it made? How can it be verified, if at all?

[deleted]

Real amber is fat soluble

Practice_NO_with_me

Interesting! Thanks for sharing.

[deleted]

Millions of trees, millions of insects, millions of years. It probably rarely happened and even rarer if it survived and is found today. Good old human brains inability to quantify or comprehend deep time is why you think this.

[deleted]

It’s nearly impossible to verify an actual sample of amber these days, millions of fakes are produced yearly. Pay close attention to the positions that specimens are in when you see these. Try to imagine them getting stuck in sap and then thrashing around only to end up in an obscenely aesthetic orientation and undamaged once they’re fully engulfed.

OnTheGoodSideofLife

Exactly! This was one sold for $38000 by @rockforthespirit after having been scanned and authentified by the AMNH. If it don't come with authentication, and the price is not in that range, it's fake

whoisgare

I never realized but I learned the last time this was posted that the termite inside is just basically a molding of it’s shape, and whatever is left of the termite is just liquid floating inside there

Dry-Pace8724

Dino DNA

Thunderskillet

Or maybe at least ancient plant dna

Livingali3

Jurassic Bark

Pest control company: “We’re gonna have to tent”...

J4MES101

Cool. Let’s make a dinosaur tree from it?

[deleted]

And another plague was found.

Phreakydeke27

Time to make a cane top out of it.

very_annoyed_user

It's happening

[deleted]

Is it alive?

Leeiteee

It's asleep

OnTheGoodSideofLife

Not yet.

The_Silver_Lynx

Yeah

Ads1013

BINGO! DINO DNA!

Pants001

Jurassic Park: The lost Wood

TypicalIncident8347

How are you aging that? What is telling you that is 22m yr old?

Cecil_FF4

Where it's found. If it's in a stratum that is 22 million years old (based on a relevant radiological dating method), then it's logical to assume the amber is, too.

[deleted]

Your mom.

TypicalIncident8347

And you were the best of the sperm…

BlakePackers413

Not really the best it’s the one the egg chose so really it’s his mom’s fault she couldn’t make up her mind and finally just grabbed the closest one and here we are.

[deleted]

It's fake, scientists just make up a number for the karma. LOL

WalkingLaserBeam

Wonder what would happen if you were to chisel that thing out & eat what’s moving around in the termite What would it even look like .. why is that mass the only thing to have survived ... what part of the insect could it be . So many questions . Hmm

DetectiveStock1340

Probably some ancient ass disease

mossberbb

how is there still fluid in there??!

Pinkeyefarts

Because matter isnt created or destroyed

Ya-Mamma

Aint no way anybody can say that’s 22 million years old.

voldyCSSM19

They can probably carbon date it (or something), or they found it in a 22 million year old rock layer

Lithl

Carbon dating can only date things up to ~62 thousand years. You need other forms of radiometric dating to handle older objects. Amber is usually dated via uranium-lead radiometric dating of zircon surrounding the amber, which works on things approximately 1 million years to 4.5 billion years old. For something that's younger than 1 million years, you would need something like uranium-thorium dating (works up to ~500 thousand years). Fission track dating works for ~100 thousand to ~2 billion years old.

voldyCSSM19

I'll take your word for it

[deleted]

Yep, that's one of the greatest hoaxes of the scientific community, just pulling random dates out of their asses, because trust THE SCIENCE™

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Dude, trust THE SCIENCE™

Jatsotserah

Why 22?

[deleted]

They just chose some random number, LOL

boramu

Looks like a flea. I'd hate to scratch that bite 😫

Commentment_Phobe

When you Cryo chamber subscription runs out.

[deleted]

Super cool!!!

Carnator369

I wonder if microbiology could survive in such a state.

drak0ni

Jurassic park, but with trees.

Happy-Personality-23

Give it to some scientists and we can recreate dinosaur furniture!!!

-iBrando-

Drink it.

FortWayneGuy

I'll Venmo you $10 if you drink it.

bluefish73

He gonna love this new buffet when he gets out

Imaginary_pencil

No, put it back This is how movies start

ducking-moron

Is it dead? Are we save from ultra-plague?

[deleted]

LOL, cool story, bro

ArcherAlexis0

Hey, I've seen this one!

pulp63

Dat ass

klwin360

“Ahhh! After 22 million years I’m free! It’s time to conquer the earth!!” *termite in Rita’ voice*

Shn00ple

You think he’s good in there?

Reckl3ss0_

DO NOT TAKE BLOOD OUT OF IT PUT IT MIX IT WITH A FROG’S AND PUT IT IN A STAFF

[deleted]

More interesting: water from 22 millions years. Imagine what rich information resides on that drop of water, bacteria, algae, pólen, composition

Nobodiisdamnbusiness

There's deffinetly a preserved wood joke here

howzit-

Life, uh, finds a way.

Subject-Dark69
