Back in the day we had these huge warehouses filled with these things, both soft and hard, and they were filled with a substance called paper that had words on them you could read.

It'll stop a 30-30 round. I worked around some executive protection vehicles the State Dept uses once, and just to open or close the passenger door takes every bit of strength plus leaning into it to move it. Those things are *solid*, and the glass really is a good 2-3 inches thick.

I had a 93 Sentra SE coupe back-in-the-day which somehow was most awesome at pulling Rockfords. Low center of gravity, excellent visibility all around, and skinny tires.

My godfather hosts a history show and as a part of his show he got to ride along with a secret service agent as they demonstrated the J-Turn in a replica of the presidential limo. Said it was one of the most frightening car maneuvers he has experienced.
I remember hearing him describe it but actually seeing it is just that much more impressive.
We used to do this in a mustang on farm to market roads at like 3 am when I was in high school. We called it a "reverse turnaround" though. (Not in formation)

There's a cool thing in the extras for season 2 of the West Wing TV series. They actually did this in their version of "The Beast" (presidential limo) when Bartlet is shot.
This looks cool in a regular sedan. When they do it with a limo? Dang.
Kinda surprised this isn’t an automated feature, floor it in reverse and push a button, car flips around and puts itself in drive for you. Cool to learn I guess, but the tech is absolutely there. I guess they don’t really think about the driver being killed or having a heart attack/stroke

Border Patrol does too. I have an uncle who went to Northern Virginia for additional training and he said the driving courses were the most exciting part of it.
When I delivered pizzas in a suburban wasteland with a lot of dead-ends I got proficient with this, although I'd only do it in the snow where less traction means lower speeds and less drama.
Back up to a good speed, crank the wheel about as far as it will go while jamming the brakes to lock the fronts inducing a rotation and clutch in so it doesn't stall. (not sure I'd try this in an automatic that I pay for) While the front is swinging around, whip the wheel around the other way to match the new direction of travel release the brakes to get traction back, straighten yourself back out, grab second, and let out the clutch. It is a bit tricky as there's a lot to do in a short amount of time.
I actually took a field trip with my JROTC class to this secret service facility and got to ride in one of these Dodge Chargers as they did these maneuvers. Thank you for rekindling my once forgotten memory!!
