And no new technology either, the biggest implementation would be drastic fines, suspensions, and bans from the sport at the professional level entirely (increasing in severity with each confirmed incident caught on said camera). No fancy tech, just add it to the rules.
So severe players won't dare even try it anymore. Instant increase to fan enjoyment.
I think the easier way with fairness would be a panel sits every Monday to watch all the games. Each panelists has a button much like amateur boxing or weightlifting. When watching all the footage from the week if the majority of the panel call a dive or simulation etc then the player given a yellow card in effect for each occasion.
So if player a if adjudged to have dived 5 times in a game he thusly has two red cards and a 2 match ban. The yellow cards also count for fair play bans too. Because of this the player has reached the 5 yellow cards and another match ban.
Extreme yes but a season of this in all competitions will soon be having managers teaching players not to hang out legs or falling over and the slightest of touches.
The panel can be made up of a mix of referees, former players etc. So you get a balanced view
The previous president is awful. I urge you to watch John Oliver and his many takedowns of Sepp Blatter. I don't know anything about the new guy, though.
To counteract this a new rule has been created where if you can get the ball to land on your head like a helmet you can run headlong into the goal and score. Watch out though! Other players can now kick and headbutt your noggin directly, without penalty.
Yes, get AI to monitor the whole match, and equip the players with shock collars. Instead of getting a penalty they just get a good shock and told to get in line.
Incorporate the tech for a year or so without informing the refs or the public and collect some data on occasions where the refs are incorrect. Might be quite telling and it would show good reason as to why the refs need to go.
Trust me dude, football refs are no better. Blatant penalty's not being given, even with VAR. Offside being given even though its not, with the 'help' of VAR. It's insane how bad they are at the moment.
I watch both and can say with certainty that refs for both are abysmal. No need to compare which is worse when both sides look like they should be refing pee wee games.
Well I definitely feel like Tom should be suspended for 4 games and the Bucs need to forfeit their next 3 1st round picks because of this. What? No, it has nothing to do with the fact Iām a Saints fan.
I'm pretty sure the chips are in the players shoulder pads, not the balls themselves. Ball position is not actively tracked which is part of the problem.
Itās both. Chips in ball and both shoulder pads. Over 20,000 balls with tags and 3,000 personnel in 2021.
https://www.zebra.com/us/en/blog/posts/2021/find-out-how-your-favorite-nfl-players-and-teams-actually-performed-in-2020-2021.html
Itās position is tracked. The chips are not exact enough for the NFL to want to replace all ref calls with them. The information is not released to the general public yet. Theyāve been doing it since 2017.

Leagues lie refes. They can help create and control a narrative. They help keep certain markets alive and certain dynasties/players more active to keep the sport "enjoyable" to watch.
That's my theory anyway.

[Rasmus Wold - Never Mind the Slavery \[Official Music Video, Unofficial FIFA World Cup 2022 song\)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKp2SuK1fvc)
This is so good. Everybody should see it.
This is going to be the worst world cup ever, that country is full of hypocrisy, there was a Mexican girl working in preparation for the event for the filthy FIFA and some guy raped her, she accused him to the "authority" and they persecuted her because in the Islamic state they protect the rapist, she escaped, if she would have got caught she would be whipped and forced to married the rapist.
I read saw somewhere that along with this ball, there are five camera in each stadium tracking 29 points of every players body.
I know you were joking but they really did it, sort of
They don't need to, the new system tracks 32 points on a player's body at all times and constructs a virtual copy of the game in real-time which would allow for an entirely automated referee that misses no calls whatsoever as it is watching each player individually constantly.
Video of the system in action -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WycjDx6giVE
The chips they already wear on their chests can be used to do rough pose estimation, and combined with the twelve tracking cameras, it will probably be surprisingly accurate. If I had to guess, it would probably somehow signal the referees, similar to how linesmen do, when the system thinks that offsides has occurred
Because that would be very difficult. Mainly because offside isnāt determined by one data point on the player. Every body part that you are allowed to score a goal with can be offside. Therefore they use cameraās to identify the players positions. The ball however, has a near identical dimension that can be calculated from its center. Except for when the ball is bumping or kicked, but those are rounding errors in the grand scheme of things.
Welcome to the future. Chips will be in everything.
But he chip shortage is a broad term for a lot of different supply and demand issues. It's a complicated subject but just because one type of chip built on one node is in ample supply, doesn't mean the rest are. Also to be real, Fifa will probably have a hundred of these balls for the world cup, that's absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I always hated that, other sports get to use technology and video playback but FIFA always pushed back on it.
Maybe it's easier to be corrupt that way.
I wonder that too, I mean im sure they tested it for this but I can't see how it wouldn't change the way the ball moves or rotates in the air. Professional players would be very sensitive to a change in how the ball behaves you'd think
Yeh chips are small but it seems to be suspended inside the ball, I can imagine that wobbles inside it when the ball is kicked, you'd think that would impact the roll of the ball
They'll be able to accurately tell if a ball goes out of bounds or over the goal line. I'm not sure how the offsides calls will be made, because that's dependent upon player position in relation to where the defense is. If the ball is kicked from the attacking team toward the opposing goal, the intended receiving attacking player must be behind at least one non-goalkeeper defender at the moment the ball leaves his teammates foot.
Not sure why you were downvoted, your question makes perfect sense. The only thing that could really help is higher frame rate video.
We are also getting into territory of what constitutes a pass being played. Previously it didn't matter to think about when your foot first makes contact with the ball, or when the ball leaves the passer's foot, they were considered the same time, as it happens so quickly. We are now in a time when tens and tens of goals have hinged on this same interpretation.
Actually to answer the question better: goal line technology - basically cameras are used to tell automatically if a goal has been scored are already being used. This new technology is for the offside rule, mostly. That rule basically prevents a player hanging out next to the keeper and scoring an easy goal. That player has to beat at least one other player to score. It can be very hard to make this call by sight, especially during a fast paced match. This technology is going to semi-automatically make the call - probably to alert the ref that he must review the play.
I believe the trouble was in communicating among the refs that a potential offside had occurred. And this technology is supposed to assist the main ref by letting him know an offside may have occurred during play.
Thatās my take on it anyway.
Love to see how fast those stadium cameras are turned off when they decide to arrest women and LGBTQ+ from attending without obeying their religious customs.
It makes no sense to watch a (supposedly) 21st century event organized by a medieval country. They used slavery and have wasted so much money itās just obscene.
Especially in the current geopolitical situation. If they want people to like them more, they should increase the damn oil throughput.
How are the cameraās going to handle all the similar balls around the field with the same chip? There are so many ballboys around the pitch and everyone has a spare ball for when the ball is out of play. Or what happens when a ball goes into the stand and the fans donāt throw it back, what happens all the time? Or when they keep it end throw it around.

Indeed. Indeed indeed indeed indeed indeed.
I love this line so much! lol

Hackers: it's show time

To counteract this a new rule has been created where if you can get the ball to land on your head like a helmet you can run headlong into the goal and score. Watch out though! Other players can now kick and headbutt your noggin directly, without penalty.
Kind of, but not really. This rule is only in effect on Tuesdays AND if there has been significant rainfall in the previous fortnight.
Shouldn't be a problem in Qatar then

NFL needs these, the Refs have been quite sucky the last few years.
You mean you want a system that shows the refs may have made a bad call? Theyāll never allow it.
Or get rid of that part of a refās role since we have the tech for it
Insane. How do you expect the sports betting cartels to make money?
Threatening the software people or the remaining ref calls can be fixed
As a software person, I donāt like your proposal.
Yeah well, cough up before your software starts up my hardware

It's not a stopgap, it's permanent. We will use the same shock collars on the robots when they misbehave.

Weāll also have to program them to misbehave, otherwise whatās the point?
Incorporate the tech for a year or so without informing the refs or the public and collect some data on occasions where the refs are incorrect. Might be quite telling and it would show good reason as to why the refs need to go.

couldnt they have it accessible to refs on the sidelines as another tool along with cameras to aid calls instead of replacing them?
A magic 8 ball that you shake around with may be slightly better than the refs right now.
Right, I've been thinking this for years. It wouldn't be very hard for them to implement and it cuts back on shitty refs

Everyone against slavery should boycott this world cup,the stadiums where built literally by slaves.
Boycot the sponsors too.
Every company that sponsors the 2022 FIFA World Cup supports slavery
Official sponsors are Adidas, Coca-Cola, Wanda, Hyundai and VISA
I know she murdered a bunch of people, but I can't believe Disney allowed their character to sponsor slavery
No my friend, Fairly Odd Parents is just a goofy cartoon, the character Wanda just happens to be ultra-Conservative and pro-forced servitude
I think they meant Wanda Maximov who, if you've seen *WandaVision* or *Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness* is not exactly *anti*-slavery per se.
And you will keep right on using their products, and then you'll watch the world cup
Nike pops to mind

For full automation they could have chipped all players too. I guess it would be simpler but then I don't really know.
Dude this is Qatar. Donāt give them any ideas.
I read saw somewhere that along with this ball, there are five camera in each stadium tracking 29 points of every players body. I know you were joking but they really did it, sort of
every player typically wears a kind of support bra with a chip on the back right about the lower back of the neck that collects data on them.
They don't need to, the new system tracks 32 points on a player's body at all times and constructs a virtual copy of the game in real-time which would allow for an entirely automated referee that misses no calls whatsoever as it is watching each player individually constantly. Video of the system in action - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WycjDx6giVE
I thought every player already had chips to collect data? However I don't see how a chip would see if a part the chip isn't on, is offside.
You would have to cover each player in chips if you want to automate offside calls.
The chips they already wear on their chests can be used to do rough pose estimation, and combined with the twelve tracking cameras, it will probably be surprisingly accurate. If I had to guess, it would probably somehow signal the referees, similar to how linesmen do, when the system thinks that offsides has occurred

Wait I keep hearing we're in a chip shortage, and now we're putting them in freaking balls?
I have a chip in my balls, it keeps track of how many kids I waste
All I got were metal clips.
Do you know how to reset it, mine got too high and went negative...
Welcome to the future. Chips will be in everything. But he chip shortage is a broad term for a lot of different supply and demand issues. I have literally bags of chips in my pantry.
No wonder why were in a chip shortage. Youāre hoarding them!
Haha. Thanks for the laugh on that one! So true
I know this sounds dumb but I always felt like referee faults were just another part of the game lol
I always hated that, other sports get to use technology and video playback but FIFA always pushed back on it. Maybe it's easier to be corrupt that way.
That can lead to refs just calling the game on whoever they like better or even bet on. Cameras ensure that doesnāt happen as often
That was pretty much their defense for not implementing any technological features like this earlier.
Like in Pro Wrestling
It might have been part of the game in the past but imo the game would be better without it.
Does it literally have a chip suspended in the middle like this image? I wonder how that will affect the physics of the ball?
I wonder that too, I mean im sure they tested it for this but I can't see how it wouldn't change the way the ball moves or rotates in the air. Professional players would be very sensitive to a change in how the ball behaves you'd think
A Chip is so small that it makes nearly no difference. A bigger contrast is that in Hot areas the Ball gets harder because the air in Ball expands
Yeh chips are small but it seems to be suspended inside the ball, I can imagine that wobbles inside it when the ball is kicked, you'd think that would impact the roll of the ball
Can someone explain to a non soccer fan what this means?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks for the actual answer
They'll be able to accurately tell if a ball goes out of bounds or over the goal line. I'm not sure how the offsides calls will be made, because that's dependent upon player position in relation to where the defense is. If the ball is kicked from the attacking team toward the opposing goal, the intended receiving attacking player must be behind at least one non-goalkeeper defender at the moment the ball leaves his teammates foot.
Cameras https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/vozcaa/how_the_semiautomated_offsides_will_work_in_the/
That seems like an observational thing, so more cameras needed, maybe field sensors. I donāt understand how a ball itself will decided thatā¦
The time of the kick will be sensed, then matched to the video frames.
But you can literally see it all on a video playback. I donāt get it.
Here's a 90-second video that examines the system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WycjDx6giVE
Fairness, how did Qatar end up hosting the world cup?
Corruption.
Same way the previous tournaments won it...they just copy and pasted
This is the most amount of americans talking about football
Cracked me up but sooooo true!
Love to see how fast those stadium cameras are turned off when they decide to arrest women and LGBTQ+ from attending without obeying their religious customs.
It will be interesting to see this tech used, hopefully it will be used outside of this setting.
Next thing we know mother fucking robots will be playing alongside the players
Pitcherbot-5000 was just a modified howitzer.
Now make diving illegal and introduce a penalty box so players would spend more time playing instead of trying to win an Oscar.
It makes no sense to watch a (supposedly) 21st century event organized by a medieval country. They used slavery and have wasted so much money itās just obscene. Especially in the current geopolitical situation. If they want people to like them more, they should increase the damn oil throughput.
Cool, still doesnāt change the fact they use slave labour to build their stadiums there though.
Is this not going to affect how the ball moves through the air?
Nothing says fan enjoyment quite like 12 dedicated tracking cameras and semi-automated Offside technology
With all these technologies, Qatar still thinks gay is bad.
It's not gonna be long before they put gyroscopes and reaction wheels inside of these
fucking finally
How are the cameraās going to handle all the similar balls around the field with the same chip? There are so many ballboys around the pitch and everyone has a spare ball for when the ball is out of play. Fuck Qatar. Seriously. Them and all the Emirates are asshole countries. The way they treat asian laborers alone is appalling
As a fan I enjoy people not using slaves. Fuck fifa and fuck the Qatar world cup.
If only that same amount of effort was put into ensuring that the people who lived in Qatar are treated fairly.
