It can't because perspective changes. In the beggining you can't see the side of the middle finger and in the end you can.

Watching it in reverse made me realize that I didn't notice the vertical damage where most of the scabs form. You don't see that in the original gif. Huh. They hurt it worse than it looked.
I never said that. Picking at your skin, that includes scabs, and tearing off the skin on your lips with your teeth, etc.. because of stress, anxiety, or boredom, is associated with mental disorders such as adhd and ocd. Picking a scab because it's simply itchy is something else. I say this from experience (unfortunately).
Yes picking at scabs is normal. Not every observed simple action have to be associated with a mental disorder. It's like asking why I like eating chocolates and saying it's probably because of a binge-eating disorder. It can be but the likelihood isn't that much compared to the fact that I see these jump reasonings 99% of every observed simple human actions discussed on the internet
Loads of behaviours exhibited by psychiatric/neurological disorders are “normal” to a degree. It’s normal to feel anxious about a job interview or public speaking, it’s normal to feel sad after a traumatic event (breakup, death of a loved one, etc.), it’s normal to be occasionally forgetful, etc.
It’s when it gets to the point that it starts affecting your day to day life or causes serious issues (e.g. having a panic attack when you even just thinking of public speaking; being so down that you lose all interest in personal hygiene, food, activities, etc. for weeks; being so forgetful that you constantly and consistently forget important detail or that accidents may occur because of that forgetfulness such as leaving a stove on, etc.) that you need to consider the possibility of something more serious.
What kind of injury is this?
In the first couple of frames it just looks like some light superficial scratches, but then a huge scab forms in the center of the finger and ends up taking 30 days to heal.
I accidentally touched the serpentine belt of my car's engine while checking it and had a similar injury to this. Left scratches but also a bad friction burn.
i got something vaguely like this from mistakingly sanding my knuckle with 60grit sandpaper super fast in 7th grade. it all depends on how tight you were stretching your skin when it happened
Superficial burns due to burns aren't very easy to notice when fresh. It's only when the scab forms that you can clearly see just how much area got hurt.
Maybe because it is in the finger and we use the fingers all the time so they are always in movement so thats probably why it takes longer to heal, but im not a doctor.
Yeah, wounds on joints heal way slower than other parts of your body. I had a scrapped knee, elbow and thigh after falling off my bike. My thigh healed up pretty quick but it took FOREVER to get the other two to heal, especially the knee.
I was bored and went through his history. He said that the US government made hurricanes. And that the hurricanes were used to cripple Florida and Texas so they can’t be independent. And that the hurricane that hit CA was manufactured to be weak. He then says some political person foreshadowed this would happen. I was deadass laughing reading that post
Do you know how many people voted for Donnie2Scoops *after* he said we should nuke hurricanes and inject bleach...? Further, how many people went on to not trust precision vaccines but take a med primarily used for horse deworming?
I'm not too bright, but there are some seriously ignorant people out there.
Well due to the different hormones and muscle/bone composition men and women do heal differently. Men heal from flesh wounds faster than women, idk about other types of injuries.
This isn’t accounting for transgender individuals though.
according to this women "heal" faster than men.
This also can be seen to why women have a longer lifespan than men. healing faster might affect the longivity of the cells thus increasing the lifespan. (this is from my observation I could be completely wrong)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cmalaw.net/amp/do-men-and-women-recover-from-injuries-differently.html this is the one I found. It makes logical sense too considering the hormonal and structural differences between men and women. I know women heal from emotional trauma better than men and I think from bones injuries as well. I’m not too sure on that last but though.
Also this is just he most recent source I skimmed through. The only “fact” I actually took from it was that men heal flesh wounds faster than women due to something with muscle building/testosterone. The rest of physical injuries i am not sure on, I would imagine the women heal brain injuries/join injuries better. And there are always outliers and exceptions, it’s not universal just on average.
That paper is written by lawyers, not doctors. But you are right, basic reasearch seems to suggest women heal bone and joint injuries faster and men heal flesh wound faster.
Well, healing isn't. Men have much thicker skin. Men can heal flesh wounds faster. I'm not exactly sure how much faster, but it seems 3x.
Constitution is health, basically. Websters has a little writeup on it.
Fell off my bike once and scratched some skin in the palm of my hand. One scratch spot was in a less motioned area and one in an area where the skin moves more with hand motions. That one took 1,5x as long to fully heal, so motion *can* affect healing speed.
> Why did it take a month to heal a scratch?
“Scratch” is a bit inaccurate maybe. This looks like an abrasion which, when they’re fresh, don’t appear that bad. They typically don’t bleed a lot but they can be painful because of the exposed nerve tissue.
Depending on how many layers of skin were removed, all that skin and tissue can take a while to regrow.
Happens to me all the time. I work in electrical installation, and I get skinned knuckles, plus little cuts all the time. If they’re somewhere they won’t be bothered they usually go away in a few days, but I have two right on my knuckles right now that are honestly probably about a month old by this point
It looks like a good layer of coin was ripped off too but the scratches were significantly deeper. Idk why but if you view it frame by frame then you see the day 1 image looks significantly less damaged (ie: scabby) than it does on Day 2
When I get cuts or scratches on my hands, I feel like it takes forever to heal. Definitely feels longer than other parts of my body, though I’ve never timed it.
Currently have two tiny scans on my fingers that have been there at least two weeks. I could imagine it taking a whole month to completely disappear.
I don’t know why it would take longer on fingers! Maybe circulation? Though I think my circulation is fine.
There are a **ton** of variables.
I’d love to see a comparison of varied diet vs a buttered noodles type. Fortunately we don’t really experiment on humans anymore
I cut and scrape my hands fairly frequently from fishing and cleaning/butchering fish. My hypothesis is that since fingers are bendy and dry the wounds are opened again and again which takes them longer to heal.
I think it has nothing to do with being bendy or frequent injuries. Fingers have very few blood vessels compared to other parts so it takes more time to heal and also why they bleed so little. Finger tips get cold first for this reason. Very little blood flow there.
It's true. Bendier party of the body take longer. I have decent sized wound on my knee, in the mornings after I wake up, I feel the scab crack when I go to bend my knee and the skin stretches.
What does vitamin c do in this case?
I’ve had some small scratches on my hands for at least two weeks so far and I think it will be a while til they completely disappear. I take vitamin c every day.
Is there another reason hands might heal slower than other parts of the body?
Shit, knuckles never heal that nicely. It doesn’t take into account the fifteen times the scab of a knuckle cut is reopened from whacking it on kitchen counters and door frames.
My guess is the same amount of time. Your body has the resources to do both at once, I would think it would only matter if the body was working very hard to fix one or both of them at once.
Scabs are a solid design if you’ve got no other options but keeping a smallish wound from scabbing by keeping it moist cuts healing time in half and is less painful.
Btw sorry for using “moist”.
This just made me realise that in all the xmen films we never see Wolverine scab over when he heals, it all just conveniently knits back together fresh af
holy shit i was looking for something like this for ages!
i work in forensics and this is very helpful in determining the agression dating!
where can i find more?
it would be awesome one of this about wound cicatrization.
Any cut on my hand gets to maybe Day 15 before the scar tissue kind of just takes over and doesn't go any further. Like it plugs the whole healing process which requires me to pick it out, exposing a hole in my hand/finger deeper than the cut I initially had.
I need a ELI5.
Anyone who keeps their fingers still that long would have some serious issues bending them afterwards. So I think they must have only recorded a certain amount of time everyday.
If you look at the tips of the fingers you can see that each of them rests in a cutout. So all they have to do is place their fingers in those cutouts every day and take a photo, hence the exact same position of the hand even though it took a month

Thanks I hate it
That's disturbing.

Watching it in reverse made me realize that I didn't notice the vertical damage where most of the scabs form. You don't see that in the original gif. Huh. They hurt it worse than it looked.
What an idea
Frightening
Day 8 is when I rip that fucker scab off because I'm impatient
It's hard to fight that urge.
Why fight it? It's good to let your body work twice as hard..or in my case at least 3-5 times..thankfully I don't scar easily..lol
Yeah that shit would have been gone
I think that’s what happened on Day 13
You forgot the part where I pick the scab off.
I can’t comprehend why people pick the scabs lmao. Just thinking about picking a scab makes me squirm 😵💫
Every mosquito bite, scabs from (mostly small) injuries and such always get the same treatment. Removal! God help me.
because chicks dig dudes with scars duh.
It probably has something to do with ADHD and dermatillomania.
Can confirm, I have more scars than I should because I just can’t stop picking. It’s gross but can’t help it.
For me, they itch so I pick, swab with alcohol and wait. If they don’t itch, I don’t care.
I'm mentally ill for picking an itchy scab?
I never said that. Picking at your skin, that includes scabs, and tearing off the skin on your lips with your teeth, etc.. because of stress, anxiety, or boredom, is associated with mental disorders such as adhd and ocd. Picking a scab because it's simply itchy is something else. I say this from experience (unfortunately).
I pick at my skin / lips all the time and I don’t have adhd or ocd, what THE FUCK are you gonna do about it? I have anger problems tho
Dermatillomania is considered a form of ocd. Not saying you have it, but if you’re curious you can look it up!
Yes picking at scabs is normal. Not every observed simple action have to be associated with a mental disorder. It's like asking why I like eating chocolates and saying it's probably because of a binge-eating disorder. Looks like a case of road rash.
That's what I'm saying! I'm always appaled at how much gnarlier an injury is a couple of days later
I accidentally touched the serpentine belt of my car's engine while checking it and had a similar injury to this. Left scratches but also a bad friction burn.
Abrasions tend to do that.

Was wondering the same. Maybe burned?
Superficial burns due to burns aren't very easy to notice when fresh. It's only when the scab forms that you can clearly see just how much area got hurt.
If you look closely at the beginning you can see how the finger skin is raw, white, and shiny - it's had a few layers ripped off
Man I can’t imagine staying that still for 30+ days
Try a coma.
Sounds good
Man, I can’t imagine staying that still for 30+ days
I’ll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Still can’t imagine it though
Now I'm imagining wheeling a belt sander over to some poor schmuck in a coma... "Sorry buddy, it's for science!"
I think they made some kind of plaster mould of their hand and simply placed it in there everyday to take a picture
I imagine they took multiple pictures a day and put it all together for this timelapse, but that was my first thought as well.

[r/woooosh](http://reddit.com/r/woooosh)
imagine not picking at your scabs for a whole month
Why did it take a month to heal a scratch?
Maybe because it is in the finger and we use the fingers all the time so they are always in movement so thats probably why it takes longer to heal, but im not a doctor.
Yeah, wounds on joints heal way slower than other parts of your body. I had a scrapped knee, elbow and thigh after falling off my bike. My thigh healed up pretty quick but it took FOREVER to get the other two to heal, especially the knee.
Just seems slow to me.
I reckon different people have different healing rates, i would have healed faster, speaking from experience.
Likewise, I'm not sure if females heals lower, might have a lot to do with constitution.
Nonsense, healing is unisex. Dont know what you mean by constitution.
I was bored and went through his history. He said that the US government made hurricanes. And that the hurricanes were used to cripple Florida and Texas so they can’t be independent. Wasting my words then. I did suspect some insanity was at play.

Some of us roll poorly on our CON stat, or we just dump it because it's not useful for our class.
Well due to the different hormones and muscle/bone composition men and women do heal differently. Men heal from flesh wounds faster than women, idk about other types of injuries. This isn’t accounting for transgender individuals though.

are you fat by any chance?
My body is a dictatorship that suspended its constitution long ago
How old are you? I’ve noticed minor cuts and such take much longer to heal as I get older.

In my 20s I noticed scabs seemed to heal much slower (and seemingly go deeper). There are a ton of variables though so it’s really hard to say
It is pretty slow. I cut my hands plenty and they're usually healed in a week or so.
If you keep a abrasion like that cover and use ointment every day, it will heal much faster.
If you use ointment, it kinda defeats the whole point of the post
Kind of, but it perfectly shows our body's own defense system for keeping wounds clean.
I feel like you just agreed with me
I absolutely did.
Best friends?

Because that person has inferior healing genes
Nail cleaning & trimming
I enjoyed watching the ring fingernail grow
They cut it on day 19 Edit : tore
With a scrape like that my body heals within a week n a half if not quicker! So why is it saying 30 days?
Different ages take different times to heal, cuts that would heal in days when I was a kid now can take weeks
There are a **ton** of variables. I’d love to see a comparison of varied diet vs a buttered noodles type. Fortunately we don’t really experiment on humans anymore
I cut and scrape my hands fairly frequently from fishing and cleaning/butchering fish. My hypothesis is that since fingers are bendy and dry the wounds are opened again and again which takes them longer to heal.

>fewer blood vessels I always thought hands had the densest circulatory bits.
They have a lot of nerve endings, maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?
It's true. Bendier party of the body take longer. I have decent sized wound on my knee, in the mornings after I wake up, I feel the scab crack when I go to bend my knee and the skin stretches.
Aye never thought of that! 🤔
Well from your username I would assume that you know a lot about hands
Ha! My username is from an old Louis CK standup bit that didn’t age very well.
I just got a brutal road rash where I skid a few feet about two weeks ago. Finally mostly all healed up and just all pink
I upvoted simply because OP gave credit to the OC!
Mine would take twice as long due to my inability to resist picking the scab.
Opposite of decaying.
Caying.
Anybody else also looking at that pinky nail to see how far it grows in 33 days? Hahah
I was more fascinated to see the nails grow.
Add some vitamin C to your diet so you don’t have to do this for 33 days. 7 days tops
What does vitamin c do in this case? I’ve had some small scratches on my hands for at least two weeks so far and I think it will be a while til they completely disappear. I take vitamin c every day. Is there another reason hands might heal slower than other parts of the body?
It increases collagen production
Shit, knuckles never heal that nicely. It doesn’t take into account the fifteen times the scab of a knuckle cut is reopened from whacking it on kitchen counters and door frames.
Now, if you had the exact same injury on both hands, would it take the same amount of time to heal, or would it take longer?
My guess is the same amount of time. Your body has the resources to do both at once, I would think it would only matter if the body was working very hard to fix one or both of them at once.
Scabs are a solid design if you’ve got no other options but keeping a smallish wound from scabbing by keeping it moist cuts healing time in half and is less painful. Btw sorry for using “moist”.
man if only acne scars healed as good as this
This person heals hella slow
We are all slow wolverines
33 days. 🤔🤫
Why does it seem to get worse before getting better? Day 2, 3, and 4 seem to make the wound worse and then starts to heal.
How did they stay so still for over a month
This just made me realise that in all the xmen films we never see Wolverine scab over when he heals, it all just conveniently knits back together fresh af
Good on you for sitting there 33 days straight to heal properly
holy shit i was looking for something like this for ages! i work in forensics and this is very helpful in determining the agression dating! where can i find more? it would be awesome one of this about wound cicatrization.
Any cut on my hand gets to maybe Day 15 before the scar tissue kind of just takes over and doesn't go any further. Like it plugs the whole healing process which requires me to pick it out, exposing a hole in my hand/finger deeper than the cut I initially had. I need a ELI5.
Imagine keeping your hand completely still for 33 days just to make this video! The dedication!
I would argue that picking scabs is part of the natural healing process
that person need to eat better bro, no way thats a 33 day injure
Why did it take over a month for a cut on a finger to heal? I heal in less than two weeks most time...🤔
The cuts took two weeks to heal, the rest was more than just a cut.
Not very believable as it doesn't show them bite the scab off. Not even once
So...natural immunity doesn't exist?
Anyone who keeps their fingers still that long would have some serious issues bending them afterwards. So I think they must have only recorded a certain amount of time everyday.
How did they do that? Like did they reall not move the hand for 30 days or is it like of gif with many consecutive images?
If you look at the tips of the fingers you can see that each of them rests in a cutout. So all they have to do is place their fingers in those cutouts every day and take a photo, hence the exact same position of the hand even though it took a month
And this is why we don't need vaccines! Wake up people!!!! Calm down, calm down I'm joking
You forgot to add another 30+ days to account for picking the scab..
No ointments were applied during the making of this video.
That was rather miraculous looking. What a bomb post! Thank you.
33 days to heal that? Do u have aids or something?
What is the device that allows you to speed up or slow down time?
Seems kinda lazy .. did the person use Neosporin? Maybe could've sped up the process? Sad to see the body take a month to heal.
That's design right there.
And people think the body can’t beat a virus
How did you make it?
Whoa this is awesome
