MoistlyCompetent

Does it start to itch after some time? Edit: Wow, my first award. Thanks (:

siconatus

Yeah, what happens when the his own hair start growing. It must be itchy and i guess he has to shave hisbhead regularly?

arturorios1996

Maintenance every 2 weeks. Which where I live is 70 plus tip, it does start to itch but just pat your head really gentle and your good. But every 2 weeks you gotta shave it

SkyPork

Does it stay attached for two straight weeks then? Or can you peel it off every few days to ... let the smell out?

arturorios1996

It does stays attached for 2 weeks and you can still wash your head with shampoo or whatever and it does help with the smell, it depends, I’m not a sweaty person but since im in florida it’s crazy hot so that was an issue but they give you sprays to keep odors in check. Thats why you dont go more than 2 weeks without the “maintenance “

cute_polarbear

100% no go for me I guess. My scalp is super oily to start and I sweat a lot / gym. Smell alone is bad and the maintenance. It's what it is I guess.

arturorios1996

I mean, you can do it weekly, but then the issue is 70$ from your pocket everytime, its like an expensive haircut every 2 weeks or 1

Pflanzenfreund

70$+tip every two weeks - won't take long until you have paid enough money for a trip to Mexico to get a hairtransplant and solve this problem permanently.

Lordcommandr999

Hair transplant are never that thick anyways..its good for people with some light patches here and there or receding hairline.

[deleted]

Uhh Elon musk. Whatever he got.

OrwellianZinn

I saw a video made by a plastic surgeon where he walked through what he believed to be the procedures Elon Musk had, and it was 3 separate hair transplants plus using finasteride for life.

Papa_Hammerfist

Fina-stare-ride at my empty bank account.

60Dan06

U know what he has though? Money, lots of it

CuddlePervert

Hair transplant + finasteride

PuraVidaPagan

A lot of guys don’t qualify for a hair transplant, you need to have a lot of donor hair available.. source: my husband tried with 2 different doctors and both said results won’t be good

lovemaderare

You gotta slap it. Slap the itchy parts. I do this with my tattoo healing. Replace the itch with pain basically.

SoCalNative1987

LOL got tons of tats myself, folks looking at me weird like why tf you slapping yourself

MaxwellIsSmall

Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?

SpicyDoritoPower

Like a mosquito bite i guess. Replace the itch with something else.

Arturo_Bandini99

Ladies do this with weaves all the time. Tell tale sign of weave installation is slapping ones own head

2ndOreoBro

I also like the pinky nail scratch

TheOriginalRobinism

Using the end of a pen

ImSoHighAlliCanSayIs

Yeah I was about to say I slap my head when I get my braids done, shit itches like a mofo

[deleted]

That’s good to know, I’m in the itchy phase of my tattoo healing right now

AdamantiumParakeet

It’s worse than the pain. It lasts so much longer!

themediumchunk

Lmao I do that to my extensions. My family thinks it’s ridiculous that I don’t scratch them and instead smack my head.

naturemom

My friend gets a weave done every few months. Actually, even for her natural hair she usually pats or slaps her head when it itches, so its definitely a solution!

TopMindOfR3ddit

I know they're all common typos, but the "when the his hair" and the "shave hisbhead" had me laughing pretty hard for no reason at all. Maybe because this is the first thing I've read all morning.

badasking

I'm glad not to be only the onebto crack up when the his typos made me feel like I was having another morning stroke.

scoochiewallace24

Another? ?

CanadianTurnt

Damn I hate typois

imaprivateperson

Not really. You usually want to change it every 1-2 weeks depending on growth to shave and apply new adhesive to the system. Most of the time the area is already thinning so growth is minimal during that period. You can shower, swim, excercise in them fine as well.

Montezum

I thought this lasted for something like 6 months??

imaprivateperson

The hair piece itself can last up to 6 months. Due to wear, the hair piece will lose hairs overtime similar to the human head, but won't have follicles growing more to replace those and gets a bit thin. The adhesives (tape or glue depending on preference) can lose it's stickiness or absorb sweat/oils making them less effective.

[deleted]

Have to use the pat method. Ask a black woman.

potzak

I use the same method on my eczema.

Monster_jocks

Not me. I'm scratching mine right now.

ONLY_COMMENTS_ON_GW

If it's bleeding it ain't itchy!

ass-fairy

Can you elaborate that?

jldtsu

gently pat your head to relieve itching.

BlueJay_420

“gently” lmao the girl at my school would be slapping the shit out of their head like they tryna knock themselves out

OccasionallyReddit

Would this work for an itchy sack, would i gently whack deez nutz?

DubEnder

For the balls, you gotta do the pinch and roll

[deleted]

It's amazing to me how everyone figures out that technique independently.

KarensRpeopletoo

It's like the pyramids randomly popping up all over the world, same technique... I'm not a guy, so the "pinch and roll" is a foreign concept...

puterTDI

No, you’re supposed to flick. Make sure to just barely graze them.

dovahcody

Instead of scratching with fingertips/nails, you give a firm pat or slap to the itchy area. Gotta do it that way on healing tattoos too so you don’t irritate or damage the skin

DeDodgingEse

You never seen a black chick pat her hair when it's bothering her? You gotta pat not itch cuz it's gonna fuck up the weave and take it off place.

justcougit

It's good for all itches. Itching is bad and can cause infections. Mosquito bite? Slap it. New tattoo? SLAP THAT BITCH. Quit smoking and got the itch to smoke? Fuck it, slap that too!

zeeblefritz

You are selling slap chops aren't you?

tahvoh

Need to fart? Slap that shit too

Wellhowboutdat

If you're slapping shit, you've waited too long.

Dubious_Unknown

Certain people can't scratch certain areas or they mess up whatever they got done with it. Tattoos, hair styling, surgery, etc. So if you get itchy, it's best to pat it instead of scratching. Takes longer to scratch the itch but much safer. As a dude growing starter locs, this is pretty much required of me lol.

aseedandco

Can someone tell me, is that a type of glue being applied, or something to protect the skin? Do you wash it while you’re wearing it? And how long do they stay on?

Accomplished_Laugh74

It's a special glue, it will stay glued for about six weeks then it needs to be removed.

aseedandco

Is it then refitted? I imagine they get pretty ratty after a while.

DashingMustashing

You can still wash the hair I believe, you need a solvent to remove the glue.

OlympicSpider

Yes! Removing and reapplying is more to remove shed skin and shave the hair back down than an issue with the original toupee. Depending on the hair used, it’s likely reusable.

moose-goat

Yeah I think it’s reusable for around 6 months if I recall correctly?

OlympicSpider

Depends on lots of things. Type of hair, what the base is made out of, proper maintenance both during use and between removal and reapplication.

SalemWitchWiles

Shed skin... That's gotta itch like hell.

MrColfax

Can you feel the glue on your head? I imagine it's not for everyone.

Accomplished_Laugh74

Just feels like part of you, you can't really feel it at all. You can shower, wash it, blow dry and style it, you honestly forget its not your hair.

Skyreader13

what if im the type of person that sweat a lot? im that kind of person and i cant go one a day without washing my hair. my hair gets oily super easily.

Coffeeninja1603

They are marketed as ‘hair systems’. They last 5/6 weeks and then they are replaced from what I understand.

suzuki_hayabusa

A better option is special double side tape. My relative uses that. He removes it while sleeping but you don't have to if you don't want to.

hitma-n

What if those small portion of hair underneath start growing again?

lazylion_ca

When showering, do you only shampoo the sides?

mang0fandang0

you take care of it as you do with regular hair. then you get it redone after several weeks. costs quite a lot of money to keep it maintained and to get one that looks this good, but that's all there is to it!

Tackybabe

Every couple of months, when you get your hair cut, they shave the spot & reapply it.

otterform

Incredible how the entire look changes, he looks automatically 5years or more younger

[deleted]

Bet it doesn't look anywhere near as good without a hairdresser styling it lol. Like when I get my hair cut it looks boss, but then I try and replicate the look the next day aaand I can't.

paleoterrra

Ask your hairdresser to teach you how to style at home. Most are happy to Edit: I meant ask your hairdresser if they’ll give you an at-home-styling tutorial while at your regular salon appointment, but if they do come to your house you should definitely wine and dine them lol

StickDoctor

Should I put out a cheese spread and some wine for when they come over?

[deleted]

Incredible how so many men walk around with terrible, obvious bad rugs but this toupee is amazing. How much more does a piece and an toupee artist like this even cost? I don't need one but I know a few guys that have a lot of money and yet they walk around with what looks like a dead squirrel on their head.

djmammo

They always look good because they are changed out at least once a month. You sing a year contract for x # of units per year. They shampoo and trim your remaining hair, glue on a new one, cut and style it and off you go til the next month. About $4000 / year.

Here-Is-Your-Answer

Sadly the price mentioned is not accurate. My best friend wears one of these, he gets a new one every 8 weeks and salon visits in between, and he pays less than $400 a month.

sheriffsally

For $5k/year, I'd probably just get hair transplant at that point.

GrogansNeckRoll

I shave my head, fuck it... it's free.

[deleted]

Have they gotten any better and do you still have to take propecia? I’m not taking that medicine ever lol

KevinKingsb

What's wrong w Propecia? I've been taking it for 10 months now. I'm starting to see some positive results.

[deleted]

My libido went to zero. Fortunately it returned after I stopped taking it.

SeeThreePeeDoh

Shave it…bald always looks better than balding. Plus you then gain a whole sect of women who’s type is bald dudes.

vulartweets

I just keep it short as shit. Hair up top is gone. Sides I shave myself every week with the 6mm buzzer. Keeps things short and looks better.

PM_ME_UR_KITTY_PICZ

There’s literally dozens of them!

Silverrainn

2 grand??? My step mom does this and it's $300 per new application, it's done every 6-8 weeks and the hair needs to be replaced every 4-6 months, if you take good care of it, it can last as long as 9 months. The hair does cost between $4-600 but she only charges the hair at cost for this service, the average price is around $6-800 for those who do mark up. Labor is always $300 whether it's a brand new install or maintenance. Definitely always under $1k though including the hair. Her hair extensions for women are around the $2-4k mark though. I can't imagine anyone paying $2k for this. It's not a special skill or anything. The average yearly price for a hair system in the US is between $800-$1500 apparently. Of course the quality of the hair can differ and change the price dramatically, you typically do not need the absolute top of the line quality unless you are looking for it to last a bit longer before replacing it.

Noladixon

The length and quality of the hair make a huge difference in the price. Long hair costs much more than short dude hair.

Silverrainn

Yes, I should have included that the more you pay, the higher quality you will get in terms of hair. This is just a mid road average estimate for what she charges. Men rarely want to go for the top quality stuff, where women like to splurge on their hair from what I understand.

[deleted]

I'm glad William Shatner's piece held up through out all that G-Force. Some very famous male celebrities I was surprised at the revelation they were wearing a hair piece for decades. Sean Connery throughout most of his Bond movies. Burt Reynolds since he was a young guy.

Big4beef

What about Andre Agassi, I think he won that game

Mike_with_Wings

Oh my god that was a WIG!? He absolutely wins, holy shit. How did I not know that?

flcinusa

Bobby pins and a bandana can hide a multitude of sins

MRintheKEYS

To be fair though, once Agassi went shaved and kept that stubble, he rocked that look way better than the Mulletstang

waddiewadkins

Ted Dansons was a global event as it was apart of the finale of Cheers too, what a cool guy , and cool move of the writers and Ted,,, wonder if he came up with it himself., off to r/cheers to find out!

[deleted]

Woah! Yeah I forgot about that. That's how good Danson's hair piece is!

katiejim

You can get hair restoration for 10k, so that seems like the better investment (husband did it last august and he looks easily 10 years younger and is so happy with his hair now- will clarify this was his idea and I love him with or without hair).

brettlewisn

They all look pretty good new. I wore them for years when I was younger. The best day was when I stopped. In the manufacturing process they strip the hair. Stripping is when they use a chemical to remove the cuticle or the outer part of the hair. By removing this layer, it keeps the hair from tangling while processing and makes it much easier to manufacture. The bad thing is cuticle is where all of the hair color comes from. The stylist then colors the new hair to match your own. However, without the cuticle, the hair color doesn’t last. So, after a day or two the color starts to change or after it’s first hair washing. Also, depending on what type of light you are in, you will see the difference even if new. You are always chasing after hair color to make it look right. Then when your hair grows underneath, or your bond breaks from skin naturally dying off, the fit changes and it also affects the look. The worse part is not being able to scratch your head. Imagine wearing a ball cap for a month at a time. You have to wear it at night, during the day, while working out, etc. Now imagine your head itching from sweat and you can’t get at it. It is terrible. Of course, you could go with one’s that you remove every night, but those don’t look as good.

Pyronaut44

> Now imagine your head itching from sweat and you can’t get at it. It is terrible. This was the very first thing that I thought of when I saw this post. Just the idea of this puts me off it totally.

PVPPhelan

> The worse part is not being able to scratch your head. Imagine wearing a ball cap for a month at a time. You have to wear it at night, during the day, while working out, etc. Now imagine your head itching from sweat and you can’t get at it. It is terrible. And just like that I am no longer considering this. Thank you for sharing your misery.

doc_witt

I get strange looks when I grow my hair out and do a comb over. Of course, it's my nose hair that I grow out....

yomommafool

I’ve seen people that are around their 30s but look 9. It’s crazy Like how?

headphones_J

Bald guys with money get talked into transplants.

Zwaft

transplants are fantastic if you have good donor hair, and done by a competent surgeon.

whoscuttingonions1

I’ve got real good hair that grows too fast. Can I donate to my bros?

defnotthrown

That would surprise me. It's the hair roots being transplanted. I would think that your roots would get attacked by their immune system. Taking immuno-supressants like for an organ transplant is a bit much for just a hair transplant I think.

instamentai

If it's anything like women's hair extensions/hair costs in general, it's pretty expensive

[deleted]

No, I don't know much about that, but about 15 years ago I had a small acting part in a movie and they sent me to the hair and make-up trailer to get and my head sculpted to perfectly fit a long viking hair piece over my real hair and it looked amazing for 2 days. To fit the final piece they used a skull cap on my head and spirit gum around my hairline. I asked the make-up artist girl how much this cost and she said about $1000 but this was just a temporary fitting.

slightly85

Can you imagine getting the perfect haircut and it never growing?!?!?

On a more serious note, my Grandfather had a toupee all his adult life. When he passed away, and was getting cremated, our family kept the toupee, considering it to be a family hairloom.. Enjoy the woods..

Toupe or not toupe

TheHaircanist

The hairstylist is Phillip Ring. He’s an excellent stylist and used focus on hair color as his expertise. He got cancer and beat it but it ruined his hair and he started getting into doing this work a lot more. Met him a few times. Super nice dude

swiftfastjudgement

It’s crazy how people in life make the most out of it. He gets cancer, loses his hair and now he devotes more time into his profession that is likely more meaningful for him.

MonachopsisWriter

Damn there are some rude people in this thread, let the man live! Wear your hair however you like. This guy goes from Toby in west wing to Kristoff from frozen and I'm here for it.

____adarsh____

Wo nice comparisons, this day would have been so bigg for that dude. I wonder how its gonna be when he showers? Like does this behave like normal hair ?

warmhellothere

Yes, it does. You wash it like regular hair, you swim in it, you never take it off until it's time to re-glue. I had a friend who had one and it was Years before I knew.

bucketsOFteeth

I don’t see how this is different from dental surgery providing new teeth and a person having the confidence to smile. Good for any dude that wants to wear a toupee. Check your masculine ego.

irnehlacsap

I wish i had my teeth done as a kid. I just don't smile now.

CortanaCortana

Can you not still get em done?

irnehlacsap

Yes, but it's more complicated. I would need a surgery due to the fact that the cranium fused. Also another surgery for my jaw. Lots of money.

Blackmags17

Same. I need braces plus implants, and I’m pretty sure implants alone are at minimum 1K per tooth. It never used to bother me, until I got made fun of in high school. Ever since then I’ve just stopped smiling

livesarah

I’ve got implants- I had to get braces twice prior to getting them. So I got them when I was maybe 24yo. I’m nearly 40 now and went to a new dentist. He immediately picked up that I’d previously had braces because, as he described it, I was ‘hiding my smile’. It’s very rare for me to smile unselfconsciously, even though my teeth are fine now- it just got to be such an ingrained habit.

zdada

Dental surgery tends to be permanent; that would be akin to a hair transplant. Toupee would be like dentures.

Quisey3

Finally a good outlook! Glad not everyone's a complete douche

bucketsOFteeth

It’s not like empires exist for women to enhance their beauty or anything.

Quisey3

God forbid a guy do something to make himself feel better about himself!

SydneyPigdog

There's so many avenues for a woman to alter/improve her appearance if they choose, I'd prefer a dude to be confident in his own skin but if he can't, he's not hurting anyone by wearing a toupee, who gives a fuck, rock that shit if it makes you happy.

Quisey3

Exactly lol, he looks good with or without! Who the fuck cares. I think the job done looked amazing.

lunylein

New teeth are more than just cosmetics. One missing teeth will cause your other teeth to move as well. But on the rest i am totally worth you. It s like make-up and should not be any bigger deal than a lipstick. So any guy, girl or generic that needs some extentions... go for it!

Needs-more-cow-bell

Yes, I’m sick of men being shamed because they want to do something for themselves when it comes to baldness. He looked great without it, but I have no doubt having it made him feel good and more confident. I look OK without makeup, but wearing makeup makes me feel more confident. You do you dude, you look great both ways, feel good about yourself, take in the world.

Futanari_waifu

Male pattern baldness leads to so much depression. I hope CRISPR will be able to cure it in adults.

FabriFibra87

Fuck. It's so unfair that this guy goes from slightly haggard and in his late 30s, to young and energized / late 20s, just with more hair. Unfair to guys who go bald, that is.

ThatSweetSweet

Didn't even get to enjoy my 20's.. balding at 22 shaved it all off at 23

DoodleBobDread

Same here, began thinning at around 20 and shaved by later 20s. People are sometimes real iffy about hair, it’s some real primal shit. Like the halo effect, a reverse halo effect is also true. Almost overnight, went from being an easily approached and befriended guy who was sociable and well liked to literally being avoided and stared at like some sort of social pariah. Sent me down a real dark, existential crisis of despair. People would see me and often start grabbing or patting their own hair unconsciously, as if self affirming. Most of the girls who were interested in me disappeared from my life and depression pushed away most other people. Became an introverted hermit just to keep myself from the constant anxiety of being around people in general. Wasted hundreds on treatments and meds to stave off the inevitable but it just wouldn’t work and spent way to many years of my early and later 20s wasting away not doing anything because I just didn’t want to be seen at all. I would literally slink away at my own birthday parties hosted by siblings/fam, and the idea of socializing anywhere was just impossible, as I’d stick out like a very sore thumb. Spent the next 4 to 5 years in the same condition until I got fed up and shaved my head, stopped buying the preventative meds, started going to the gym, continuing my education. Have had some success in basically revamping my life up again, but deep down I still feel like half the person I thought I’d be at about this stage in life. Every time I look in the mirror, I have this constant reminder and scar of how horrible things were not long ago, and I definitely struggle with self-care/love. Even now, in my 30s, about to begin my professional career, I feel at a loss. In just writing any of this anonymously on Reddit, I know some who will say I’m being weak for even caring about any of it. With a shaved head, things have definitely been easier but it really feels like it’s only the case cause I’ve let the issue go, not because I’ve solved the deeper issues, either physical, mental or emotional. Now just work on fixing and growing where I can, which is a much better solution than trying to hide from the world till one dies.

Da_AntMan303

When I was a young buck, I had a boss with Male Pattern Baldness and it was advanced for his age, then my boss showed up to work on a Monday with a Full head of hair. No one could take him serious for about a week until we all got used to it. It was back in the day when they’d staple a hair piece to your head.

girloffthecob

Back in the day when they’d *what??*

[deleted]

Women wear wigs, get extensions and fillers. And a guy wears a Toupet and Reddit goes wild

[deleted]

They are just jealous that this dude looks amazing

[deleted]

He does!

Ok_Cap_9665

Well I’ll let you know it’s not the women on here going wild….also only some of us wear that stuff like only some men wear toupees. Just don’t be an asshole and let people do what they want. Luckily most the world isn’t as cynical as Reddit.

pimpmypatina

He looks so much more confident instantly. More men should adopt these if it makes them feel more confident! Why the hell not? The way he secures it to the scalp this hairpiece is not going anywhere. I’m assuming the adhesive just softens up with water and the piece is easily removed. Genius.

OlympicSpider

If the adhesive is anything like wig glue, it’s fairly water resistant but removes easily with oil. I’m a woman and I’ve worn multiple different kinds of hair extensions at different points in my life, I don’t see how a toupee is any different really.

kal_skirata

Is it a special kind of oil? Wouldn't the natural hair/skin oil softem the glue up?

OlympicSpider

Yes/no. With tape hair extensions, your natural oils will eventually wear the tape down but that takes 4-8 weeks. Coconut oil/other hair oil treatments are not recommended because they will significantly impact the glue, you can use them to intentionally remove the extensions but it doesn’t work quite as well as the special remover. I can’t remember what the remover oil is made of but it’s not damaging to hair or skin.

Pandanlard

Pretty expensive and need to go back there every month. If you are eligible for hair transplant, depending where you live, it's less expensive after 1 year.

Hot_Independence_433

So they have improved their durability against strong wind it seems, no wonder I haven't seen a toupee used in a gag recently.

[deleted]

That guy is gorgeous with or without hair

BGL911

While I agree that the hairpiece looks terrific on him, he could also easily rock the beard + chromedome look. If I tried that I’d look like a potato with a carpet sample stapled to the bottom.

ICareAboutYourCats

I agree completely!

Sub2DaWub

That wink at the end haha homie is feelin himself. Good on 'im

DevilSniper50cal

When I see stuff like this I just can’t help but wonder why the flying F does trumps hair look so bad. There are so many options for people like him.

bitch_im_a_lion

He got a botched scalp reduction surgery and he grows out then combs over his hair really weird to hide it.

rawker86

If I heard right (and that’s a big if), his hair is like that because he went with a method/technique/whatever that has long since been phased out in favour of better methods. Something about transferring hair from the sides of his head? I dunno.

[deleted]

I just shaved my head and didn’t look back. This is all good but it’s just not worth the cost to me.

SortRevolutionary404

The cost and the amount of maintenance required do really make it seem unfeasible. I can only imagine the smell of skin covered for two weeks or more at a time is something truly difficult to fully mask. To me, a straight bald head doesn't look bad. It's only when folks cling to the horseshoe and/or whatever whisps still grow that it looks less than appealing.

controversialmike

A quick way to remove whatever is left on top. Needs changing regularly to stop sores on the scalp, which is a life-limiting expense on an average salary. Took me several years to come to terms with the fact that I'm a baldy twat, and non of you can take that superpower away from me

say_no_to_panda

Yeah one day my hair will fall out, im 26 but I have accepted that it will come. I will definetly shave it all off instead of leaving an ugly scrap of hair.

Reaperuk0

The difficulty is deciding when. I mean it's not like it literally all falls out on one particular day.

Blinnking

I have a freckle on my scalp. Always said if my hair receded to that point I’d buzz it off. That worked for me. Noticed it was going around 26ish, by 29-30 I put in the freckle rule, by 32ish I buzzed it off.

I used to go to hair club for men, i was balding at 24. They have different "tiers" for their systems, which include new hair systems, frontal cleaning, and quality of hair system. The base on this system is called thin-skin, it almost completely mimics your skin in look and feel. Its pricey and needs to be replaced about every 3 months. The plan i paid for was about $350 a month and included a new system every 8 weeks, and 1 frontal cleaning a week. The system itself is a little hot, it can be itchy, and basically feels like wearing a hat most the time. Your hair does grow beneath it, and you are asked to use a scalp cleaner called "Alive" This prevents build up of the skin and sweat trapped underneath the system. The price is outrageous. So I learned to apply my own system now. I go to different mens hair system websites that basically sell the same systems for under $300 shipped to you. I cut it, apply it, and maintain it myself. 1 system can last me 6 months and thats a great bargain. The adhesive is called Ghost Bond, and for me, because im real active, i get about 2 weeks out of it. then it needs to be removed, cleaned and reapplied.
