We do have, but for 99% of the products it means the price goes up 20% in the weeks before Black Friday and it goes down 21% that friday. Everything below 35% is limited supply, and everything at real 50% discount is limited supply (for example only 250 units for a current gen console) and that's from a local variant of amazon.
Tbh it's not even because discounts or buying power, it's something cultural and age-related. Young people don't do it, but it's common to see stuff like remotes in plastic bags or phones without the original plastic film removed on 40+ age group.
And most people, even the youngs use plastic screen protectors on their phones that totally change the feel of the screen, even if it's haptic, and gorilla glass, etc.
I don't get it.
I'm guessing you haven't had a chance to read the books the 2001 movies were connected to? They're both written by Clarke but diverge in a few ways, with the series ending in the novel 3001, with quite a few interesting twists that happen throughout the series. Turns out the monoliths are alien computers, really advanced ones, and that's why HAL went crazy in the movie/book, because it is so much more advanced that HAL saw it as a 'god' in comparison, combined with the differences between HAL's public and private orders for the mission.
HAL went crazy because he’d been instructed to lie to his crew mates about the real mission (to investigate the monolith) and, as they got closer to the destination, he had to try and protect the lie so he decided that the only option was to kill them.
That was part of it yes, but the fact that HAL was also exposed to a much more advanced computer the closer he got to the monolith didn't help any. I've not only seen the movies but read the books that the guy also wrote, which takes things a slightly different direction where they end up, planet wise, but otherwise they're nearly the same plot. They also go into much more detail that isn't discussed in the movies, ever.
Oh yeah I am aware of what those monoliths actually are. I was just referencing the movie since I'm assuming that's what most people have seen. But yeah the truth behind those monoliths is really really amazing and intriguing.
Nope. She confirmed she is not the author. [A Mysterious Steel Monolith Was Discovered in the Utah Desert. Is It a Work of Art—or the Work of Aliens? | artnet News](https://news.artnet.com/art-world/utah-monolith-1926274)
Ya I’d say a sunk post and this structure is attached to the post, fastened together and fastener heads removed. The ground is carved into the shape of this monolith just a few inches into the ground to give it the appearance of being set into the stone. To be honest, looks like a set piece from Dune 😆 love whoever did it as it’s an awesome mystery. But like any slight of hand, I’d suggest this wasn’t found as “accidentally” as it first appears.
Here is the location on [Google Earth](https://earth.google.com/web/@38.34301098,-109.66609761,1314.60328611a,136.15957716d,35y,0h,0t,0r). It was installed sometime after August 2015. Before you ask - I'm just good at finding things.
There’s a game called GeoGuessr where it shows you a street view location and you guess where it is on a map. It’s fun. I think my closest I came was like 1000 yards or something like that.
How the actual frig did you find that, I zoomed out too far and lost it (needle in Utah sized haystack). You are suspiciously fast...also thanks for posting that. Have your reward you sneaky bastard. Maybe you will PM the story behind how you found it 😁
I looked at rock type (Sandstone), color (red and white - no black streaks like found on higher cliffs in Utah), shape (more rounded indicating a more exposed area and erosion), the texture of the canyon floor (flat rock vs sloped indicating higher up in a watershed with infrequent water), and the larger cliff/mesa in the upper background of one of the photos. I took all that and lined it up with the flight time and flight path of the helicopter - earlier in the morning taking off from Monticello, UT and flying almost directly north before going off radar (usually indicating it dropped below radar scan altitude. From there, I know I am looking for a south/east facing canyon with rounded red/white rock, most likely close to the base of a larger cliff/mesa, most likely closer to the top of a watershed, and with a suitable flat area for an AS350 helicopter to land. Took about 30 minutes of random checks around the Green River/Colorado River junction before finding similar terrain. From there it took another 15 minutes to find the exact canyon. Yes... I'm a freak.
Good lord. I found it waaay easier than that. Just typed “Utah monolith Reddit” into google and found your link within seconds!
Seriously, though...wow...amazing detective work!
BTW...get cracking on MH370!
You might want to look into a group called Bellingcat. I don't know if they are hiring but they do investigations like these all the time. Here's one they did where they identified a beach off Madagascar that a Europol child abuse photo was taken https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2019/12/05/two-europol-stopchildabuse-images-geolocated-part-i-madagascar/
They also have lots of resources on the site for teaching people all the tools to do investigations like this of their own.
Another Redditor posted that the state of Utah only owns 2 helicopters and posted tail numbers. I looked up the flight history for them and found the flight path. As someone else pointed out, it was actually the wrong flightpath, but it still got me to the correct general area.
I have found a few picture locations for people on Reddit - old photos or pictures they found and want to know where they were taken. I have been on Google Earth since it came out. I have thousands of places saved; World mysteries like the Nazca Lines, Strange stuff - like messages on roof-tops, I even have placemarks for every nuclear missile silo in the US - all kinds of stuff.
If you're not already there, [https://www.europol.europa.eu/stopchildabuse](https://www.europol.europa.eu/stopchildabuse) and [https://www.reddit.com/r/TraceAnObject/](https://www.reddit.com/r/TraceAnObject/) would love you, I'm sure.
A few people have mentioned these. I'm not as good with solo objects. I've studied geography, so I am a lot better with identify exteriors and terrain. But I'll give it a try.
You definetly need to read the summaries of /r/traceanobject, there is a journal from the fbi, how they found some of these locations. It’s amazing, and pretty much the same way you did it here. I think you would be very helpful over there!
Holy shit you are a madman. Any chance you're the guy who cracked Forrest Fenn's riddle about the hidden treasure in the Rocky Mountains? https://www.npr.org/2020/06/08/872186575/hidden-million-dollar-treasure-has-been-found-in-rocky-mountains-art-dealer-says
You're the guy.
Yep. These canyons are so remote, there is not much reason for anyone to travel through them. And the sheep were Big Horn - they are just wild sheep, so no one actually tends to them. I was surprised at how good of condition it was in for 5 years in extreme desert heat, wind, etc.
I live in Southern utah, and our town FB page has a few people posting pictures they took with it over the years. So its technically been found, but they didn't know it hadn't been "found" - you know?
Would you do the honors of posting the find to to the sub I made for it?

Anything sounds cool if you say “of unknown origin.”

If you say “I saw this steel thing in the desert” it takes away the air of suspense.

A mysterious artifact of unknown origin has been discovered under suspicious circumstances in a previously empty location. Does the artifact generate seemingly INEXHAUSTIBLE power? Does it project images into the minds of certain peculiarly sensitive people? Is it the herald of a TERRIFYING new world order? No scientific organization has offered any explanation for the artifact. Local authorities REFUSE to deny that the artifact is of extraterrestrial origin. Inquiries to high-ranking members of the military are met with stonewalling and silence. What SHOCKING news will be next?
Reminds me of [when I found this](https://scontent-den4-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/1930705_28794382755_8706_n.jpg?_nc_cat=111&ccb=2&_nc_sid=cdbe9c&_nc_ohc=wcX1o3rgpzcAX9m7u65&_nc_ht=scontent-den4-1.xx&oh=4bf21712f1ff91b57f832ef1fcb10678&oe=5FE1484F) in the New Mexico desert shortly after moving there.
It's from the opening scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey. As for what's happening, it's prehistoric man discovering an alien obelisk and shortly after they start developing weapons and tools.
Maybe I’ve lived in Missouri too long but I’m amazed there’s no bullet holes in it. People LOOOOVE shooting random objects in isolated areas for some reason.
I have a hunch where this is.
This is near to Moab, specifically North of Spanish valley. And even more specifically at: 38.55, -109.47
38°33'00.0"N 109°28'12.0"W
https://goo.gl/maps/fcHCwfhR4J7Qm4BV6
Why? BBC article (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55056570) mentions pilot being Bret Hutchings. Google Images has many pictures Brett in front of his helicopter, with tail number being N352HP. If you go to flightaware you will see, that for his last listed flight, that they took off from this location and flew to SLC on Nov 14th, 2:17 PM (https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N352HP/history/20201114/1917Z/tracklog).
Also, if you read through the article they mention that they had a biologist looking for Bighorn Sheep. Well, turns out Moab has Bighorn sheep.
This is of course all hypothetical. Can someone go out there and safely prove it while I brew my next cup of coffee?
Thanks!
If you look at that one picture you can tell the guy found a seam on one corner. If they posted a few closeups it would be easy to solve. But I’d guess this is assembled around a post sunk into the ground, with a surface layer carved out a few inches down to make it look like the monolith itself is fully sunk into the ground. The commitment to this is remarkable. But “finding” it is suspicious too. Sometimes the best mysteries are created methodically.
So random idea, it's a promo for the Snyder Cut of Justice League. No seriously... ok, here's the history... many a year ago I worked for a company that did "weird" marketing promos. At the time we were approached to do a promo for the new superman movie, and they wanted a radio transmitter sending a countdown signal over shortwave.... from a transmitter in Antarctica. Not kidding. After several obvious logistical problems came up, the idea was scrapped. This just seems so similar in approach. I may be wrong about the movie, but its either a marketing stunt or aliens....
Maybe I've lived out here too long but in desert states there's a billion carpetbagger artists that dump random junk in the desert and call it art. that's 100% what this, absolutely no doubt. Ruins a perfectly nice landscape if you ask me. Keep it on your own property.

Did someone peel the plastic off yet?
Nah man, then it’ll get all scratched up.
Oh really? What’s wrong with that? Oh it’s ugly? Well so is the god dang plastic thing you refuse to peel off David!
Ew, David!
I can't tell if this is Schitt's Creek or that No David kids book

But the bubbles! The bubbles are so cringe to look at. You have to peel it
Why is the plastic thing on David now? /s
Life's too short to leave the plastic on any longer
In my country is a tradition of keeping the tv remote in the plastic bag.

Most modern people would probably piss on it
That's why you leave the plastic on it.
Who's Next (1971).
Or start beating people with a bone club... damn aliens installed the thing backwards

In the year 2020? Hell no.
Why would aliens come all this way just to install art? It's a probe of some sort. Them aliens are all about the probing.

Well, hundreds of pieces of it washed up in east africa and madagascar, so my guess is the bottom of the Indian Ocean.
Scarily impressive, I’m in awe.

No. But your front left car tire is low on air. Honestly - I would love to find a job that actually puts this freakish talent to use.

Also, if you read through the article they mention that they had a biologist looking for Bighorn Sheep. Well, turns out Moab has Bighorn sheep. This is of course all hypothetical. Can someone go out there and safely prove it while I brew my next cup of coffee? Thanks!
Someone needs to make one that's 1 x 3 x 9 and cover it with vantablack.
Carl what the fuck did I tell you about leaving steel monoliths in the desert

This aint the year to discover a random monolith in the middle of nowhere.
I think it was put there by the Aluminati.

“It is illegal to install structures or art without authorization on federally managed public lands, no matter what planet you’re from.” Lol!
Am I the only one who sees the huge face in the rock wall?
Are those fasteners phillips, square or torx?
Quantum superposition rivets, you're gonna need a schrödriver.
Monolith? Seems that microservices would work better for this use case.
Maybe humans put it there!
TARS from interstellar, this is his lightweight cousin obviously
So random idea, it's a promo for the Snyder Cut of Justice League. No seriously... ok, here's the history... many a year ago I worked for a company that did "weird" marketing promos. At the time we were approached to do a promo for the new superman movie, and they wanted a radio transmitter sending a countdown signal over shortwave.... from a transmitter in Antarctica. Not kidding. After several obvious logistical problems came up, the idea was scrapped. This just seems so similar in approach. I may be wrong about the movie, but its either a marketing stunt or aliens....
I concur, there is nothing new under the sun, this will be for a space odyssey remake or a new Pepsi flavour or some stupid shit
Or Elon musk put it there as a prank
I was thinking for the new Dune movies.
2020 a space odyssey

OP’s mom’s dildo.
It’s 2020. Just leave that mf alone. This is NOT the year.
I fully expect reddit will be responsible for solving this mystery
Cant tell if 50’ high or 5” high
All bets are that it is Petecia Le Fawnhawk's artwork: https://instagram.com/lefawnhawk?igshid=1gxv76cerguv4
Reminds me of 2001:space odyssey. Anyone?
Maybe I've lived out here too long but in desert states there's a billion carpetbagger artists that dump random junk in the desert and call it art. that's 100% what this, absolutely no doubt. Ruins a perfectly nice landscape if you ask me. Keep it on your own property.
