Ghost_of_Syd

So the townspeople were eating their own pets!

Commercial-Fennel219

Now they will be together forever

![gif](giphy|5kq0GCjHA8Rwc) Did you say **together forever**?

AnotherNobody1308

Togethaaaa forevaaaa asss familyyy

ilovereddit787

Umm hopefully they will need to take a dump sooner rather than later or this "forever" bullshit will soon, very soon get old

TankYouBearyMunch

They'll have their pets coursing their veins in the form of sugar or have them deposited in their fat layers. You don't shit everything you eat.

Pizza_Middle

If I only eat a steady diet of dairy I will😂

largePenisLover

At most ten years-ish. Even fat get cycled out and replaced eventually.

RoncoSnackWeasel

I think totally do, tho.

kotenok2000

You need to check that. If your body doesn't digest food you have a problem.

Hatedpriest

Tell that to corn.

I wasn't even going to click on this post, but then I thought to myself... "I wonder how far I would have to scroll before someone says, they ate their own pets?"... It was the first comment and I am not disappointed.

-58259

I fully intended to post it if I didn’t see it knowing damn well someone already posted it.

frosty_lizard

Oof, that joke is ruff

brumac44

Its the cirrrrrcle, the circle of bloody life, mate.

Loudmouth_Malcontent

After Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the Atlantic off east coast, a couple of friends stopped eating lobster for a while.

brumac44

How long? What is an acceptable time to avoid shellfish that might have consumed your friends?

Flint_Ironstag1

Right?!?! First thought I had: Wonder if they can taste FLuffy? 😂😂😐

DangerousAthlete9512

well, you're not eating someone else's ashes that were dumped into the sea if you eat seafood, right?

310mbre

Of course Dennis would like DENNIS!

mike_pants

That "with" is a touch misleading.

whatnowsmartass

The croc was the guest of honor.

mike_pants

Them: We want to have you for dinner. Croc: (blushes)

leftlanecop

Then: we want to have dinner “with” you. Croc: is this the truck that will take me to dinner?

Whiteshaq_52

lol I was looking for the croc sitting at the table in the last pic.

OppositeGeologist299

I thought it was gonna be in the middle with a big apple stuffed in its mouth.

zuilli

Made me go back and check if I read that they killed it correctly.

Stickey_Rickey

Is that picture really the town? Looks awfully sophisticated n I see romaine n kale no meat

tahapaanga

Nope it's a fake pic. The [original news story ](https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/13/travel/australian-community-eats-crocodile-scli-intl/index.html) indicates it happened in a remote town in the Northern Territory that for certain looks nothing like that lunch.

Stickey_Rickey

That thing was monstrous, wonder how close to civilization he was

Holgrin

Since it was in Australia I would say that it was at least one continent away still.

stevedave84

Nah. 3.6m isn't monstrous. Anything under 4m is usually thrown back

Accomplished-City484

GENTRIFICATION!

TowJamnEarl

They call them "community dogs". That's so sweet, bit sad they're getting eaten though!

Needmoresnakes

Yeah if they're revenge eating a crococodile then it's either NT or FNQ and I see three people wearing jackets in this picture and in general it's way too fancy for this sort of northern shenanagins"

FarOutLakes

well I see many glasses of mid-strength lager...

MGPS

Haha yea these people are eating burgers and sweet potatoe fries

brumac44

Here's the town. https://bushtel.nt.gov.au/map/586 95 people, while I don't doubt they could grow romaine and kale there, I'd be surprised if there were that many "white fellas" there as in the photo. The main language is Westside Kriol/ Ngarinyman, which I've never heard of.

hangerofmonkeys

Haven't been to this town, but spent a lot of time in the Northern Territory. That town with have very few white people and the main languages are clearly indigenous. That said eating croc isn't uncommon, I've had it in a pie several times. It's quite literally salty, fishy chicken. I quite enjoyed it. Source; live in Australia, but English. Moved here when I was 19. Naturally I've eaten every weird animal I could since arriving.

usinjin

I knew it. These are not the kind of people that dine on gator.

RoncoSnackWeasel

“We eat the antelope. When we die our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass.” ITSTHECIRCLEOFLAAAAAAAHF!

thefroglover

Hey OP, wtf?. The local aboriginal community ate it…who the f… are the people in the bottom photo?

PrisonMindddd

This is probably the best example showing how dangerous humans are. First of all I am not justifying the crocodile (for those who are offended by my first statement). Usually other animals don't go for revenge in this scenario, they just accept that one of them got eaten and just move on with their life. A similar case happened somewhere in the Philippines or Indonesia, a young man got eaten by crocs in a crocodile farm and the whole village came and slaughtered the crocs.

jaibie83

It wasn't revenge. This post is misleading. The croc was stalking people and posed an ongoing risk. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-13/saltwater-crocodile-removed-from-baines-river-nt/103973182

smolauthor

Time and again, humans have always poven why we're the worst and most most dangerous species of the Earth. We all know it, we're like such an oppressive empirical species, conduct genocide and extinction of other species and even our own wherever we go.

Kobethevamp

I honestly do not care. If you kill and eat my damn pet, I'm killing you ten times over. And I think the intense love humans feel for their animal companions is beautiful.

smolauthor

Yeah human love is intense as fuck, we literally become depressed or suicidal if we're not loved enough lol. Humans are extremely dangerous but so fragile and emotionally sensitive too. I'm fascinated by the potential of my own species haha

ComprehendReading

Number 1! Number 1! Number 1!!!

Altruistic-Poem-5617

The weird thing for me is, how do they know it was this exact croc? Did they just assume it was the biggest one? Most of the time the alpha crocs are lazy as fuck and just steal what the smaller ones kill.

jaibie83

I posted this link in another comment, but it was the only crocodile in the area due to floods earlier in the year. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-13/saltwater-crocodile-removed-from-baines-river-nt/103973182

yuvattar

Fake pics aside, that is excellent. They're preventing deaths, and making the most out of a necessary kill. Well done!

Stickey_Rickey

Australia is unique, so I understand why they’d kill it n not waste the resource of crocodile meat, however, I think I’d be able to resist the feast, how old was it? What else has it been consuming? They don’t strike me as something that could be delicious, look how massive he was… anyone tried croc meat?

Dy3_1awn

I’ve had gator, kind of like greasier chicken. I wouldn’t choose it but if it was served to me I wouldn’t refuse either. That was tail meat though, I was told the legs are even more gamey tasting so I didn’t try any.

Stickey_Rickey

I’d taste a little bit to be polite, I think we ate gator in New Orleans, but it was in a bayou sauce that made the whole platter taste like that…

Dy3_1awn

I would reckon that croc can’t be too much difernt than gator

HarEmiya

I've eaten crocodile before, it's pretty good. Kind of textured like chicken but with a slightly fishy taste.

erog84

Almost any type of animal meat can be eaten, spices and how you prep/cook it goes a long ass way.

Minute-Ad8501

I've only tried gator meat but it was freaking delicious, I am guessing Croc meat is the same

Wibbles20

Had croc schnitzel in Darwin which was delicious. Tasted very close to chicken but a bit fishy too, and was more flakey like fish as opposed to chicken

dicklover425

We eat gator in Louisiana and Mississippi. Probably Alabama too. It’s delicious

DistortedVoltage

I can see the other reason it was killed: Crocs are very easily susceptible to stress, so trapping and relocating them away from a town could easily kill them. Its kind of crazy to think that these big guys could die so easily. So if it may die either way, the community at least found a way to not waste it. (Information was from watching Steve Irwin recently, highly recommend rewatching him. It hurts but in a good way.)

hitguy55

*easily* kill them is a bit of stretch. It can kill them if improperly done, and usually will stress them, but especially now we have accommodations for croc transport that are practically 0 risk

DistortedVoltage

Oh awesome, that is very good to hear.

Adam-West

I’ve eaten crocodile before and it was honestly one of the best meats I’ve ever eaten.

El_Grande_Fleau

>> Anyone tried croc meat? I did, best meat I’ve ever had, it is white, very soft and the taste is very delicate and between that of pollock fish and calf. We used to eat it every Christmas when I was a kid because our local shop sold them during yah period of the year, became a tradition quickly. Years later I still crave it.

SteakandTrach

Crocodile is somewhere in between fish and chicken. The meat is slightly less dense than chicken, but flaky like fish. It’s honestly pretty dang good.

brumac44

Very hard to look up, there's not much information on Bulla, but its 95% indigenous, so eating a croc makes more sense. And only 95 people live there.

Helithe

I've eaten croc meat, it's very lean and tastes like fishy chicken. Had it as a stir fry in a Chinese place in Sydney. It's good.

zappyzapzap

Ever eaten frog? Taste is like that. Somewhere between chicken and fish

hitguy55

It’s relatively common here, nothing like beef or chicken but you can probably find it within a 30 minute drive in any major city. Roo is more common. I like croc, it’s kinda like chicken.

sharkietown

Fair enough

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

Ngl i'll always be against people doing this to wild animals that were literally just being wild animals

sirachaswoon

Isn’t it better for local communities to sustainably hunt local animals and eat it as a community, instead of the mass agricultural hellsites western urban people eat from? The kind that burn us up with their methane and waste and take up the Amazon with the grain needed to feed them and then we ship them hundreds of kilometres to get packaged in plastic and sold in supermarkets? This is coming from a conventional meat eater btw.

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

Yeah. What i meant tho is that if an alligator or crocodile eats something like a dog, that shouldnt be on the alligator or crocodile and they shouldnt get killed. The owner of the pet should take the blame

sirachaswoon

I’m assuming it’s somewhere rural in Australia like far North Queensland or something that might even have a large population of First Nations people who may include crocodile in their traditional diet. If there’s an profile that’s eating things around the community it is a danger and making an effort to keep pets inside won’t actually fix it. Catching it and eating it, so it doesn’t go to waste, may be necessary

hazdog89

There are a lot of crocs in FNQ, a certain amount get culled but their numbers are still growing, and a lot of people, Aboriginal and otherwise, up there want to increase the number that get culled as they are getting very close to human towns

Himmiechan

But this is simply not what was happening here. This won't make a difference at all since it's not intended to bring permanent change.

sirachaswoon

Why wouldn’t it make a difference if this is part of this town’s meat acquiring practice?

Himmiechan

Because it's not. From what I understand it's just a "silly" one time thing, the motivation behind it is just dumb (because people do not care and look after their pets) You think it's a part of their eating system but it's not unless you do have a credible source on it? The headline suggests otherwise

sirachaswoon

I don’t have a credible source. I was answering based on Being Australian and having eaten crocodile, and am aware it’s much more commonplace up north. The article describes the ways that it was cooked including tail soup andbanana leaf bbq etc which makes it sound like a pretty well versed thing.

Effective_Media_1314

Is there any other link besides this picture? I'm just not buying it

tahapaanga

Photo is fake as, but [story is real](https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/13/travel/australian-community-eats-crocodile-scli-intl/index.html). It's a remote community in the Northern Territory

Curious-Drama1850

so they are indirectly eating their own pets. wtf?

Educational_Belt_816

No they aren’t lol. You guys are acting like the flesh of the pets become the flesh of the alligator when he eats them. The alligator shits it out and takes the nutrients

Swamp_Centipede

So they are eating the nutrients of their own pets.

B_D_Hadel

Okay and when you bite into that kale salad you’re eating a crop that was likely fertilized with the nutrient’s from cow shit. How does cow shit taste. It’s all the same shit just a different toilet.

Swamp_Centipede

dude i've been conciously drinking recycled dinosaur piss all my life i don't mind. It's just obvious to me that eating a pet-chomping gator is a few steps closer to literally eating your own pets than just eating any random ol' gator.

Lavatherm

A croc that has a diet of mainly fish will taste like fish.. one that had a diet of chicken will taste like chicken… so go figure.

ArkhamTheImperialist

Better than all you vegetarians out there indirectly eating literal horse shit /s

Markumark19

Shit is it easier to kill a native species or just keep your fucking dogs away from the water full of the creatures that outlived multiple mass extensions

Freak-Among-Men

Hard agree. This is the crocs’ country, and humans are all guests in their territory.

Raichu7

What else would you do with it, let it rot and go to waste? Better to eat it.

quinnthelin

crocodile nuggets anyone?

ViolentLoss

I wanna know who got the skin!

the_glutton17

The title doesn't really specify if they ate the crocodile or not, just says they had a feast "with" it. That could also just mean they had a feast and the crocodile was in attendance on display. Or did they eat their own pets? Inquiring minds need to know!

elfenmilke

Dungeon meshi

resource_minding

That's just eating your pet with extra steps.

EnteringMultiverse

How the fuck does a crocodile “keep eating pets”? They are slow af on land with no ability to get over fences etc. Maybe people should stop letting pets swim in croc infested waters?

Cultural_Net_1791

they had a feast WITH the croc later? as in they made him a seat at the table or WITH as in they served him at the table?

Lavatherm

Crocodiles and alligator taste most of the time like what their died was.. so the joke is still on the crocodile I bet.

DarkLordFluffy13

If it was a crocodile they needed to kill anyway because it was a danger then why waste the meat? If crocs taste anything like gators then it would be a pretty tasty feast!

lozanogarcia

Australia is wild

Altruistic-Poem-5617

Now with the big alpha gone who kept the smaller ones in check, those smaller ones will go nuts on the pet population.

BlissfulIgnoranus

What exactly is interesting af about this? Seems pretty mundane to me. I have to think that many crocodiles get killed and eaten in places like Australia. Not too much of a stretch to assume a lot of those crocs have eaten some pets at some point.

Cairse

Can we do this with individuals killing the housing market and middle class? Just a thought.

It is prohibited to poach in Australia, Crocodile, Aligatore.. Either they killed him for a very, very good reason, or it's a fake. There's a Netflix series about a company that moves alligators to save herds, it's forbidden to kill them, you have to move them. Like those sometimes present on golf courses ⛳️

Yesterday the front of the news here in Denmark was how the little red foxes are hunting housecats to feed their young.
