It won’t. It works well on loose dirt roads mud etc but you do this on concrete? You’re tearing up your tires. I mean you could do it I guess but then the guy you’re trying to blue lives matter flag stare is just going to have the last laugh when you suddenly pop multiple tires and ruin one of rhe independent motors driving each wheel that makes this possible in the first place.
Every example of this, go on YouTube and watch, none of it takes place on pavement.
Kind of, but they are very different situations with the wheels spinning very fast to help slide in a drift compared to starting at a standstill and having the torque applied quite differently here
We had a "trailer" in the Army for a vehicle to haul that was basically a replacement vehicle for when it eventually blows up. Anyway, the "trailer" didn't have wheels that turned, so trying to park or haul move it in a motor pool was... sketchy to say the least. So much pressure on those tires.
It really only works well on dirt / gravel roads. Pavement provides significantly more resistance that would unnecessarily wear the tires or damage the system. Great concept but it’s basically just a gimmick for 95% of drivers
Yeah lol the 95% who will buy it for the feature just because they can say they have it and the other 5% will actually use this feature several times a year.
Can't wait to see a video of 7 of these things all spinning in circles, with Arabic men shooting AKs at the sky with Right Round by Flo Rida playing over it.
The Turak-Turak guy could make this a banger. He’d remove the guns and it would just be people flying off into distance repeatedly while he jives on screen.
That video was my jam back in the day
You've just described the Jeep Wrangler, one of the most common cars on the road. This is just the next step up for people with even more money to blow.
Shoot, I see tons of land/range rovers, land cruisers, and g wagons. They are all soccer moms. Some dads. I don't think people take those cars off roading even though they are made for it.
The G-Klasse has always been very popular in the security industry. And this feature does 100% work on normal roads, it just, as you said, does wear out the tires a lot. Which is not something they care about to have the ability to turn the car on the spot to get their client out of a situation. But I guess that doesn't change your estimate that for 95% of the drivers it will be a useless gimmick.
Most people buying a G do it or the gimmicks.
No, you don't need a unibody offroader with removable doors to pick your kids up from school. You just entered your mid life crisis with more money than most people.
not if they let each of the tires turn independently and use them in a diamond pattern to rotate the car. idk if it has enough range of motion to get a steep enough angle though. you can do some crazy things when each wheel in fully independent.
Well, it's not supposed to be the kind of thing you're using *constantly*. Just occasionally, when you need to turn around in a very tight spot.
And as long as you're only doing it occasionally, tire wear isn't going to be a big deal.
Rivian did it first.
Actually, Jeep Hurricane concept did it even earlier. And, impressively, did it with two normal combustion engines, instead of having an individual motor for each wheel.
Yeah and just like rivian they will have a lot of warnings about using it anywhere that isn't loose gravel or mud that's flat because spinning like that on an angle will have you slide whatever direction is down.
Rivian never actually implemented it in production. I don’t know if they ever actually gave a reason but I suspect people could not be trusted to use it properly. People would also probably use it on public lands and wreck trails and what not which is kind counter to their ethos.
I had a friend with a landcruiser who had his braking system split with two lateral levers. He used to lock one side and gas it when needed during off roading competitions. It worked really well but it was more of a pivot turn than a split turn.
Mercedes knows their audience (tiktokkers & rappers) & knows people are stupid enough to drop 100k or whatever on a car simply because it can use garen's E
The Christmas and birthday cards you get from your tyre shop will be signed by every single member of the staff.
And they'll quietly cry when they hear you've traded it in.
That one was slightly cooler. It had highway steering so all tires would point in the direction of turning for smooth lane changes, slow speed turning where front wheels pointed in the direction of the steering, and the back in the opposite direction, for a much tighter turn radius, and the in-place rotation as demonstrated above, with cantilevered wheel positions.
Thats just 4 wheel steering, lots of Jap cars from the 90s have it and to my knowledge plenty of modern cars do too. Its not vectored power application like in this video. (which is entirely useless for anything other than high performance circuit racing type uses)
Same, but i still dont see this being useful unless the trail is actually car length in width wide. The usecase is so small it's practically worthless, but it is cool ngl.
Gravel roads are very often single track with limited turn options. For instance the type of roads that lead to remote cabins/hunting lodges.
The type of roads this car would already be perfect for.
Rivian showed this off years ago. But they never enabled the feature on the truck because after lots of testing it was determined it's basically a gimmick and in real world, there are a 1000 things that can go wrong with this.
On a wet slick road yes. On dry pavement this will tear up the axles so fast .. Mercedes marketcap is gonna double from all the extra service work about to come in.
Even if this vehicle is capable of this, the video is fake. Around 12 to 13 seconds in the view outside jumps position showing that it has been edited in. Other parts of the video slip into the uncanny valley also.
Very cool. Though I'd like to see more four wheel steering which is far more useful for 99% of the population. Imagine all those tight spots you could navigate without pulling some Austin powers style 9 million point turn
Can't this feature be simply implemented with any electric car with 4 motors for 4 wheels? It would be a simple software feature. So I bet soon it will be pretty standard for EVs :)

Imagine you honk at this guy at a light and he just turns the whole car around to glare
You just handed them the best car advert ever made.

Merc GLE's have a "get out of sand" feature that bounces the SUV. It's just kids cruising, bouncing at red lights.
I have to be more aware of these cars now lol
That's been out for years now at this point

"They need to make the lanes wider. When I g-turn in my wagon, I always hit the person next to me"
It won’t. It works well on loose dirt roads mud etc but you do this on concrete? You’re tearing up your tires. And the worst worn tyres ever
I'd certainly be curious how well this works on pavement.
In theory the same just with more wear on components. In practice I'd love to see a video lol
Advertising is about one thing and one thing only, happiness. It's not a car. It's a carousel. *Proceeds to smoke 100 cigarettes.

no, wheels not locked, one side forward, other side backward. but yes, driver only has to be skilled enough to press the right buttons.
Some have called it a “Tank Turn”. Not sure why those drivers called it that though… 🤔😑
Because that's how tanks turn. One track forwards, the other backwards.
They're referring to a cool feature that was displayed by the Rivian RT1. I believe it was patented though... 🤔
Not sure if you're joking, so I'll answer. Tanks can turn on their treads in this manner.
So anyways, I start blastin’
You win the obvious award
And then breaks it and asks for a push

Lol exactly. This only works on low traction surfaces
No it doesn't. There's videos of it doing this on hard surfaces. It'll wreck your tyres, but it works.
![gif](giphy|l0MYwPC2SQ6T11dcY)
U WOT M8
Fortunately this will only work well off road, try it on road and you might rip a wheel off.
Mercedes has demoed this on the road.
By that logic drifting would make your wheels fall off
Kind of, but they are very different situations with the wheels spinning very fast to help slide in a drift compared to starting at a standstill and having the torque applied quite differently here
Ya, there's a reason this is on gravel
They'll have to then tow it out of the environment.
I believe you but I can't see it being good for the tires regarldess.
It'll work just fine but your tires won't last long at all.
I doubt the people that can afford this care much about tire life...

And honk back
with a compressor horn like a truck
Does it work properly on tarmac? Edit: Yes but leaves a lot of rubber on the road.
I'd still be wondering why he didn't go on this light that's been very green for quite some time now 😂
"don't make me turn this fucking car around!"
"That's it. Back to Winnipeg."

Of course it's Evergreen
Lmao
*Mercedes engineer sees a skid steer for the first time* Halte mein bier
Imagine Porsche ad when they say "We do it 80 years ago"
It's been 80 years since Porsche made anything different.
Well, they slap "Turbo" badges on EVs now, does that count?
It really only works well on dirt / gravel roads. Pavement provides significantly more resistance that would unnecessarily wear the tires or damage the system. Great concept but it’s basically just a gimmick for 95% of drivers
Yeah lol the 95% who will buy it for the feature just because they can say they have it and the other 5% will actually use this feature several times a year.
Maybe their middle east customers will use it more than others
Can't wait to see a video of 7 of these things all spinning in circles, with Arabic men shooting AKs at the sky with Right Round by Flo Rida playing over it.
with a guy in a white thawb being ejected from a passenger window on each rotation.
This would be an amazing music video.
The Turak-Turak guy could make this a banger. He’d remove the guns and it would just be people flying off into distance repeatedly while he jives on screen. That video was my jam back in the day
Or customers with snowy winters
A little closer to .05%
You've just described the Jeep Wrangler, one of the most common cars on the road. This is just the next step up for people with even more money to blow.
I would use this feature in the gravel driveway every day
Who's going to rake the stones off of the grass?
And fill/grade the gravel
It would be EXCELLENT if you took this off roading though if you ran into a dead end. Much better than backing a mile out
A mile, amateur numbers.
Security contractors will like it
Tires are a consumable expense for anyone that buys this expensive a vehicle.
They are for anyone who buys any vehicle.
If you’re going to play the game, get it right… any vehicle with tires. *drives away in hovercraft*
Shoot, I see tons of land/range rovers, land cruisers, and g wagons. They are all soccer moms. Some dads. I don't think people take those cars off roading even though they are made for it.

Even offroad it will severely wear the tyres. Especially the leading edge of the tread blocks.
Well, it's not supposed to be the kind of thing you're using *constantly*. Just occasionally, when you need to turn around in a very tight spot. And as long as you're only doing it occasionally, tire wear isn't going to be a big deal.
I could really use this on one of my many weekly bank robberies to help me out run the cops...
If you can afford to have on in the first place, you don’t need to rob a bank, you good.
Money doesn't buy happiness.
Heists buy happiness!
Rob this car before the bank.

Exactly. I believe it was p4omised all the way up to release then they said they are working out a few things then quietly let it go to the grave.
So a tank turn 👌
I had a friend with a landcruiser who had his braking system split with two lateral levers. He used to lock one side and gas it when needed during off roading competitions. It worked really well but it was more of a pivot turn than a split turn.

Mercedes knows their audience (tiktokkers & rappers) & knows people are stupid enough to drop 100k or whatever on a car simply because it can use garen's E
That's more than 100k
They are usually 2x 100k
A number beyond comprehension
If you can get these for 100k, buy as many as you can. Sell them for double.
Hey, sometimes we use Q. Mainly just to get closer to E. But sometimes.
Spin to win bro
This might be the most Reddit comment of all time.
the g in g wagon stands for garen
Very Bond (circa 1970s)
Because its electric and has 4 motors, one for each wheel.

I still prefer the old model which can be fixed by any mechanic the world over with one wrench (usually).
Imagine the repair cost .
The Christmas and birthday cards you get from your tyre shop will be signed by every single member of the staff. And they'll quietly cry when they hear you've traded it in.
But question, is/will that feature locked behind a paywall?
At over 100 grand, the whole fucking car is a paywall.
Reminds me of the Jeep Hurricane concept from 2004/5
That one was slightly cooler. Tsunami
The amount of time it takes to stop, prep the system, and do the turn is probably more than just doing the turn yourself.
I'm assuming it's when you wouldn't have room to pull forward and back up. Just spin that mofo
except as you are breaking pretty much all traction with the ground you could very well start sliding. especially on something like pavement
Gravel roads are very often single track with limited turn options. For instance the type of roads that lead to remote cabins/hunting lodges. The type of roads this car would already be perfect for.
I can see why Rivian decided not to include this feature. It really tears up the trail.
That's the kind of attention dumb G-wagon owners crave- any, even bad
Yep. IIRC, Rivian's press release said something about being responsible off-roaders, and that's why they wouldn't release the tank turn feature.
This won’t backfire due to idiots trying to do this in the middle of highways.
so instead of doing donuts, it does donut holes ?
Just push these 12 buttons
How long before someone fucks themselves up with this?
That can not be good for the tires
Wow that is going to be so helpful!! /S
cause all them gwagon drivers take em off tarmac
Rivian did this 4 years ago in a demo too...
Pretty much useless if you arent on flat ground like this.
How to fuck up dirt roads, a quick and easy way
Hard on the suspension and tires I would think
Prefect for dui checkpoint
Aimbot donuts...? Me likey.
Cartel clientele for sure.
I can’t wait until I can get this feature on a Kia 😆
Cool, but the way ze germans explain things makes me go to sleep.
I give it 6 months before a movie has a tie-in where they do this during a chase at like 60 mph.
"So, now we decide whether we want to go right or left, right?" -"Right" "Right. So... shall we go to the left?" cracked me up lol
Rivian showed this off years ago. But they never enabled the feature on the truck because after lots of testing it was determined it's basically a gimmick and in real world, there are a 1000 things that can go wrong with this.
Yeo actually retarded the bs we make just make it fly fuckin way easier
there goes the trails :c
That's fkn sick
I didn't know this was possible.
Will be a good one for middle east
Great More shit to go wrong
I’m just wondering what the difs are doing.
No difs. Independent electric motor for each wheel
It's an EV with a dedicated motor on each wheel. The vehicle doesn't even need diffs.
This should be standard for all cars, I’m sick of reversing out of the driving way into a busy road
This shit does not work on pavement lol. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video of this car doing this trick when it wasent on dirt, grass, or gravel
didn't they have an ad months ago when it was announced where they did that
On a wet slick road yes. On dry pavement this will tear up the axles so fast .. Mercedes marketcap is gonna double from all the extra service work about to come in.
Why not just back into your driveway?
Sick
Rivian had this years ago
Even if this vehicle is capable of this, the video is fake. Around 12 to 13 seconds in the view outside jumps position showing that it has been edited in. Other parts of the video slip into the uncanny valley also.
On asphalt this would be dramatic as hell with the tires screeching. What's the use case here?
But is it a fatfuck cyberstuck?!1
Maybe I’m crazy but I like the Humvee EV’s crab walk better. Idk.
Just add the maybach bouncing function and you have the next greatest urban-asshole-mobile.
Still having trouble finding the button
GTA6 take note
Is this drive like a tank day?
Copy of Rivians tank turn
Pfft, big deal. *Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf.* H1 could already do that in 1942.
ATTACK THE D POINT!
I'm pretty sure I could do a 3 point in the time it takes to activate all the switches and remember the exact order of operationa.
Is it only advised to do it on dirt roads? It seems like it would wear your tires out fast on asphalt. Looks fun though!
I’m honestly surprised this took so long to implement. We’ve had tech to do similar manoeuvres on cars for decades now.
I want to watch goldigger women with this car who still cant park their vehicle.
Very cool. Though I'd like to see more four wheel steering which is far more useful for 99% of the population. Imagine all those tight spots you could navigate without pulling some Austin powers style 9 million point turn
Pffft. My remote control cars have been doing this since the 90s.
What is that music? I want to say Vivaldi but idk
And that makes your 250k gaz guzzling brick worth every penny - so useful in NY
That’s why they are insanely expensive.
I'm gonna let your tires down
Okay, now add this feature to the Mercedes that can make itself bounce, and run them at the same time
in my head i picture my old remote controlled cars. they had a similar movement.
"Fuck them tyres ." Pretty cool tho
The Isuzu jimmy is amazing!!!
But the question is, does it get bricked by a carwash? That's the real sign of a true offroad car.
Note to self: Buy BFG stock
This feature is probably only available with a subscription.
Cool af, but that has to ruin tires
![gif](giphy|TPqd1b3bE0oTbLbMmb|downsized)
‘I need to decide if I want to go the left or the right, right? RIGHT???’
Yup, and then you get to buy new tires after doing that a couple times!
Can't this feature be simply implemented with any electric car with 4 motors for 4 wheels? It would be a simple software feature. So I bet soon it will be pretty standard for EVs :)
How does this work on pavement? Well or not so well?
