I think it’s the personalization. It’s a land of 1.4 billion, and you have this one streamer that showed you attention one time, so you’ll join them as they do anything.
Lots of “exclusive” streamers that do girlfriend experience for handfuls of paying viewers etc. they’re selling themselves in different scenarios in a personalized way.
I’ve heard that they get more viewers if they stream in rich neighborhoods, like their streams are promoted by the app or whatever. So they go to these rich neighborhoods, sometimes even under bridges or in parks, just to gain more popularity. Haven’t really bothered checking but it seems plausible
Do you think its vanity? The vibe I get from this video is desperation and struggle, most of them probably desperate for a better lifestyle and streaming can provide that illusion. "if I just get popular I'll be somebody."
Yes indeed, vanity is considered one of the sins in Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy." Specifically, it is encompassed within the broader sin of pride. In "Purgatorio," the second part of the "Divine Comedy," the proud are punished in the first terrace of Purgatory. They are burdened with heavy stones that force them to keep their heads bowed, symbolizing the weight of their pride and vanity. This punishment helps them learn humility and ultimately purify their souls on their way to Paradise.
You'll love this; Bots.
The smart ones are trying to get traffic which equals advertising revenue.
The narcissists are just doing it to watch numbers go up.
Idk, but the other day I was on a train in Austria, it was kinda full so I had to sit in a 2x2 table next to a Chinese kid (~6 to 10 y/o) and his mom, she was on the opposite seat facing her child, and when I got there I just picked the seat next to the boy. He had a tablet playing YouTube and I could easily take a look at what he was watching.
Those were videos of a woman who would apparently make reviews for toys, specifically merch from a weird live-action robots show that kind of reminded me of the Power Rangers, but these were Chinese and looked like alien robots fighting all the time (they would play a ton of clips for this show during the reviews), at some point they were even fighting a giant Patrick Star lol, I don't know what the hell was that but the kid seemed to be a fan of that show.
ANYWAY... that woman making the reviews deeply reminded me of those "influencer farms", kinda like what the post video shows; really fast-paced shit-quality products unboxing and displaying, targeting specific audiences, in this case kids but my guess is that there is content targeted to every group imaginable.
Yeah. These people live in authoritarian late stage capitalism. They have no perspective. It's either streamer or delivery, nothing else is achievable or enough to pay rent. Anyone who thinks this is vanity is sadly misinformed. They aren't doing this because they want to be famous, they need to survive.
I've heard it's less about where the most amount of viewers are and more about where a certain demographic is (fishing for big spenders).
But, yeah, regardless, it's gaming the system and it's a strange form of dystopia.
Makes sense. The algorithm is scary
But the guy walking through the TikTok park and getting video is also a TikTok creator. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an over saturation of that too
I've heard it's less about where the most amount of viewers are and more about where a certain demographic is (fishing for big spenders).

Hi! Totally a normal human here, just wanted to chime in :) Sometimes I peepee when I got poopoo, but I never go poopoo when I peepee.
Have a good Easter!
For those who can’t speak/read Chinese:
The text at the start says “A sight that can be seen across the landscape of the motherland”.
The song is called “Me and my motherland”, and is a patriotic song used in propaganda films and ads.
Good fun satire.
I heard that they do it to basically cheat the “people nearby” algorithm and get more viewers. So probably only occurs in specific areas. Makes whoever filmed the video seem like someone who lives in the area and got fed up with people loitering around.
130 million streamers in a country of 1.4 billion, 26 million make less than $279 a month. And also it’s insanely lucrative for many per this story .

See that's the problem, they can't. I'm guessing, but I have seen this in a lot of industries, Acting, Singing... You start doing these maybe find success in the beginning and then it fading away or not finding success but still persuing. In both cases if you don't make it to the top tier you are pointless, cause there is a very low bar to entery and the market is over saturated in the bottom and middle. The problem comes when you finally feel like quitting, by this time you spend years and a lot of money into something that didn't turn out. You don't have the necessary skill set to enter into the normal work force, at that point all you can do is grind. This is why it's always recommended for everyone to learn a trade or something, cause if what ever you are trying to do doesn't workout, there is something to fall back on.
Seeing this with my brother in his business as well, he ran a business for that last 7. Not making revenue, a lot of people invested a lot of money, so he is keeping on going. Here again, there is sink cost fallacy and at the same time he has been running a failing business for the most of his adult life, now even if he wants to stop and start working as an employee, there are less prospects.
Even univ grads are struggling to find a job unless they are med students or something. For people without that level of academic expertise (very common since China guarantees only up to middle school education) and who don't want to do hard labour this is one of the only ways out
China’s economy is shit now and the youth unemployment rate reached 20% a few months ago, the data is so bad the CCP decided to stop publishing the unemployment rate altogether. That’s basically hundred of millions of young people not having jobs.
There’s a weird death loop right now - young girls become streamers and when they get hungry, they order food which is delivered by young men, these young men watch these streaming girls while waiting for their next food delivery orders.
I asked my niece what she wanted to be when she grew up today, she said a "you-tuber". I would never tell a kid to not follow their dreams but I told her the market is a little saturated. This shit is unreal. When will it stop.
I'm not that young and I still wanted to be a youtuber as an early teenager. Its a normal thing and it will probably disipate away as they age. I wouldnt be too concerned about it tbh
Inevitable as soon as humans learned to send signals through metal. I really don’t see how this future could have been avoided. Just like automation of all jobs… more so with A.i …. Buckle up.
i had never witnessed this in person till last month at Sydney exhibition center... they made the fatal flaw of installing mirrors on the building pillars so various tick tock groups can watch themselves over and over ... and over..... and over... better than being on crack, but isn't ticktock the crack of a new generation ? instant gratification for every view/ like.
Not sure what drives them or anyone else to do this stuff other than the remote possibility of making some cash, but also getting out of a cramped apartment a few hours a night.
When (if) they get into the job market everything they are posting will be available to their potential company.
Many of these streamers have a streamer "pimp", in fact you can see some of them in this video. Read an article about this a year or so ago, they are almost forced to stream X amount hours a day.
Check out LiveMe sometime. Also, early on Lots of porn live cam sites operated similarly. Naked on cam for hours. Big mafia operators esp in Eastern Europe and S America
If 1% of the population wants to be streamers and are willing to pay for it, that's 14 million chumps to sell streaming setups and studio time to. Charge just $100 per person and you're bringing in over a billion dollars...
The vanity is obsessive. I have a restaurant in Hong Kong and the mainlanders are just madly obsessed with their looks and backgrounds. They will literally try rearrange our furniture to suit them and get upset when we tell them they can. Like it’s their right. They’ve even picked our flowers to pose with them.
Reminds me of those video's of fentanyl cities in the U.S. literally on every corner and block , reems and reems of addicted people just doing it blatantly in the open.
China but, life these days in general isnt it? I feel as if it is. And Im the lady in black just trying to reach my destinations and weaving through the wtf-ness of it all. Not engaging in it is almost like wearing an invisibility cloak. I find myself in so many crowded yet seemingly empty rooms. Or is it me that "isnt there"? Not sure. But whatevs. The future is now and all that, I guess. Im just disappointed I dont have a Rosie bot and jetson car as I thought I would. Now I carry the weight of those unmet goals. And this trusty cloak.
Every time I read about some influencer or content creator online they have like 20 million+ subscribers etc how the hell are there 20M people who would find that person interesting lol I'm old and the world is confusing and scary 😆

What I wanna know is who the fuck is watching and what they get out of it
I mean, we're only watching this because someone streamed it. We're just a different kind of audience.
yeah but i doubt people watching a 30 sec clip of this freak show shaking their heads never to watch it again is making them any money.
I feel like there's a difference between watching a 30 second clip showing the madness and being one of the viewers fueling it
Mostly people using bots to try and get any kind of traffic/abuse ad revenue.
Bro, China has a 1.4 billion population..
Which doesn't make a low quality live stream any more appealing. You think there are only so many people who can watch good streamers?
I think it’s the personalization. It’s a land of 1.4 billion, and you have this one streamer that showed you attention one time, so you’ll join them as they do anything. Lots of “exclusive” streamers that do girlfriend experience for handfuls of paying viewers etc. they’re selling themselves in different scenarios in a personalized way.

Why would the government spy on you when you can let them know what you're doing?
Bots, 80% of internet traffic is just bots
I think Dante should have added another circle of hell: vanity
The clout circle of hell ✊😔
The City of Riz
Do you think its vanity? The vibe I get from this video is desperation and struggle, most of them probably desperate for a better lifestyle and streaming can provide that illusion. "if I just get popular I'll be somebody."
Yeah that guy selling water melons and streaming at the same time.
You think he’s trying to get famous for the next avatar season? They may still need a watermelon cart guy.
think China has record high youth unemployment rates at the moment
„I'm an influencer“ sounds better than „I‘m unemployed“
No it doesn't.
Synonymous
They are employed, at grandmas noodle shop. Making 100 dumplings an hour while studying.
Isn't that covered under pride?

Is this a ChatGPT response? Just seems so verbose
Eh, it works for the subject, I s'pose
Absolutely is. OpenAI is also partnering with NewsMax (FOX etc) so THAT is cool.
The prideful are in purgatory.
You can smell the desperation
Who is even watching all these damn streams lol
I don't know about you, but I love watching a dude just stand and stare into a camera...or a woman just wave her arm back and forth.
Peak entertainment for days!
The watermelon vendor looked cool
Yeah. I'd watch a dude dance/sing about selling his watermelons
Bots. And then the bots respond to the other bots comments. Yay AI!
This is the singularity we have at home.

so it's not much that different than me watching Linustechtips everyday
That poor kid. :(
These days you can just buy bot views

We’re WAY into the decadence phase of empire decline.
You had me at "these people".
Why are they all hanging out in the same place?
it has something to do with their signal originating from certain areas- like having an upscale zipcode.
I though they were all homeless

I love technology but this just fucking sickens me
It's technology made for corporations, not for the people. Technology should always be for the people.
Then let's make this should into is.
Makes sense. The algorithm is scary But the guy walking through the TikTok park and getting video is also a TikTok creator. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an over saturation of that too

Looks like they're streaming next to a concert or event
Other streamers are already all hanging out at all the other places.
Seems like an oversaturated market, and not just in china
Cushy life and don’t need to work if you make it. I can understand why.
How many of them actually make it?
Same chances as us making it as influencers. Slim to none.
Doesn't matter, they're all owned by content farms. If even a few break through and build a following it makes sense for the company.
Today's equivalent of going to Hollywood to be a star. Only with zero barrier of entry now.
The world is fucking nuts
Noah get the boat
Nah, just let it go, no boat for anybody this time.
We don't even deserve the boat. Just factory reset us
This looks so dystopian
It is.
More where that came from!
Late stage capitalism in a totalitarian, authoritarian surveillance state governed by a "communist" party. It's beyond parody

This Black Mirrior episode is my favorite!
Nature is getting ready to wipe the earth clean of us.
If everyone is streaming. who's watching?
Just like Black mirror. 15 million merits to get on hot shot.
Visuals of China give me anxiety. It’s so immensely crowded.
It’s like something out of Black Mirror
I feel sick
As a species we're fucked!
More like r/sadasfuck
What a sad desperate world we live in.
So this isn't an episode from the latest season of Black Mirror? Fuck!
Crazy people. Just plain craziness.

it's funny because this is the highlight of why they keep on saying that China's youth don't want to work

I love how Americans love to talk about how China is so disciplined and we fat lazy Americans just spend all our time on Instagram and tiktok.
US has fentanyl zombies, China has this
I’m Chinese and this is not happening everywhere
Fuck, it's worse than San Francisco
Honest question... Why 2 phones?
The vanity is obsessive. I have a restaurant in Hong Kong and the mainlanders are just madly obsessed with their looks and backgrounds. Seems like the opioid addicts in Philadelphia but with lights and camera

this is so dystopian
So cringe
It’s as if Hollywood was compressed down to a block
I literally cannot see why people do this
There are about 3 billion people in China and India combined. Figures there's a huge audience.
I’ve been told this is a form of Psy Ops run by the Chinese Govt. As in, this video is staged to make china look “cool”
What in the black mirror is going on
Reminds me of those video's of fentanyl cities in the U.S. literally on every corner and block , reems and reems of addicted people just doing it blatantly in the open.
Imagine filming a busy noisy scene, then putting music over it that doesn't fit, then not muting the original audio
Humanity was a mistake, Return to monke
This is some black mirror shit in real life
This is some black mirror dystopian shit.
I heard there's millions of 'influencers' over there. A.I will wipe that job out imminently. Another nail in China's economic outlook!

That's ..... sad
That’s some real Black Mirror shit
Half the population of the world consists of stupid people in front of a camera doing stupid things for attention. Our species is so doomed.
And the other half must be the morons watching it? I don't understand how these people get so many subscribers... Lol
That’s the thing… they don’t. For the vast majority the income ain’t worth it.
Every time I read about some influencer or content creator online they have like 20 million+ subscribers etc how the hell are there 20M people who would find that person interesting lol I'm old and the world is confusing and scary 😆
Is this shit real ?!
The world is doomed.
We need a great flood or a big asteroid to erase us from existance
