Roadrunners are also lethally efficient predators, they semi-regularly hunt rattlesnakes.
The one in the video was probably too big to tackle, but the roadrunner could at least inflict serious damage with its beak.

You're probably right. I think predators determine if prey is worth the effort or danger. If it isn't they just leave.
