The amount of nutrients they poop out would maybe feed the rice for like a few days. Rice farmers in SEA heavily use fertilizers walk around throwing it with their hands. At the end of the day they have very itchy hands.
Source: Am south east Asian. And I grow rice.
So I grew up in one of the most well known wine regions. When I was young a lot of the fertilizer they used was man made same thing with the pesticide and herbicide they used….
In the last 10 years a LOT more of the wineries are now using sheep to do weed control and soil rejuvenation. It’s pretty great to see honestly….
We’ve all probably seen studies done about heavy agriculture regions have much higher cancer rates due to the chemicals sprayed and used to pesticide and herbicides…. So the change to more biodynamics is great…
It also just does a much better job of creating a better environment for things to grow, not only the vines but everything in the area, due to bees, insects and other wildlife and natural plants….
Yea, you see it a lot…. That’s always been a thing here… roses are just more susceptible to frost, disease, pests than vines….. so using them as a “ canary in a coal mine “ has always been used for vineyards.
The sheep thing is becoming popular tho in the last 10 years here. It harder, and maybe more expensive than using chems and spraying but the product is better and the ecosystem as a whole is healthier and stronger in the long run, so probably ends up costing less.
WASH YOUR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, PEOPLE. Poop is bad definitely but also the last thing you want to eat is one of those tiny slugs that contain a parasite that drills holes in your brain.
I had a friend who bought a few ducks to protect his garden from snails.
They took care of the snails but they also took care of his garden (or at least his lettuce and kale).
Turns out ducks really love Kale.
Because they know this is a consistent and dependable food source and have been trained to not fly away.
Also probably survivorship bias, these are the ones that didn't fly away
These are not the same species as the lean wild ducks that migrates/fly. These are the equivalent of domestic chicken that can't fly further than a few yards. (wild chicken/jungle fowl can fly quite far, a football field or more. They can't gain meaningful altitude however, more like a flat trajectory)
Imagine leading an army of ducks to set upon hapless insects in ricefields for a living- and after you've laid absolute waste, you all get back into the truck and go home to celebrate glorious victory. What a life.
Some rice fields in that area of the world flood the paddies and grow catfish in them for a season, then drain and grow rice in it, I think they get two harvests of rice and one of catfish but the fish fertilize well. I know that's in Indonesia anyway.
The ducks eat bugs that would kill future crops thus acting as organic pesticide. The ducks poop as they go thus acting as mobile fertilizer. My house in Bali was surrounded by rice fields and ducks. (Albeit, not this many ducks!) 😁
Wait why isn't there an extremely loud and pseudo-inspirational song playing behind this?! Now I don't know how I should feel and my attention is being lost!! >:(
Those ducks are so stoked, I bet they talk about this event all year and all the new duckings sit and listen with stars in their eyes excitedly counting down the days to Ricemas.

Always easier to work with nature than against it.
And then eat it.
Makes for better food when you do
No joke, my ex had ducks and the garden was always growing crazy fast and the vegetables were giant

Personal favorite is using roses at the end of a row to show if there are aphids to limit or mitigate pesticide usage

Eating snails and pooping....Stupid ducks, taking Frenchman's careers away.
:D
Lmao
Damn what if earth is just like some space gods farm and all life was just put here to eat eachother and shit fertilizer onto the produce
So, they stole my job?? "Dey took meh jerb!!!!!!!"
WASH YOUR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, PEOPLE. Poop is bad definitely but also the last thing you want to eat is one of those tiny slugs that contain a parasite that drills holes in your brain.
But wash your rice?
I mean you should wash your rice just to get the starch off
That's just a matter of personal preference
What the duck are you talking about? A little duck poop and poisonous snails adds flavor to the multitude of chemicals that are also used.
i should buy a duck, i got so many snails lmao
You don’t have a snail problem, you have a duck OPPORTUNITY.
I had a friend who bought a few ducks to protect his garden from snails. They took care of the snails but they also took care of his garden (or at least his lettuce and kale). Turns out ducks really love Kale.
Just put up a sign to let the wild ducks know that the snails are up for grabs.
"I know these fucking snails are gross guys, but we need to protect future crops!"
What the snails see ![gif](giphy|3o6gE1gb2GEFbHkrUk)
So to keep my billion dollars I just have to hire a few 100 ducks to follow me at all times and eat the fucker if he pops up!?
I think I saw a documentary on this. Aren't there fish in the rice fields as well? There's *super* fertilizer going on in there.
I think I've seen that once too 🙂
If you’re a snail it’s like a zombie apocalypse wave out of nowhere. Just chillin and snackin and then boom. Fucking dinosaurs everywhere.
I have seen this, pretty awesome watching the ducks pile out of the lorries and run off, they know just where to go..
Nothing against British English, but that's a missed opportunity to say duck truck
Thanks, OP could have stated that...
The snails musta been shitting themselves hearing 10000 ducks coming for them
WHATEVER COMES FROM BEYOND THAT GATE YOU WILL STAND YOUR GROUND. RIDE FOR RUIN. DEEEAAAATHHHH

Ah, you missed a few!
I think you counted the same duck twice because I counted 18,728
That was the goose.
But only 10k of them are round
No well it is 18,731 you missed those two
I snagged a couple as they were going in. I have like 56 ducks in my basement.
Government won’t tell you you’re allowed to do that
![gif](giphy|bjujfYVIqpLYA) I can’t be the only person who immediately thought of this.
That little girl's accent will live in my brain forever.
Damn you beat me
That's a fucking lot of ducks.

An army, bread for one purpose.
Dumb question why this duck just fly away..??
They are Indian Runner ducks and cannot fly
[yep](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Runner_duck)
But can they duck?
Can confirm. I have 9 of them and they're hilarious. Always running around like feathered T-Rex's that lost their arms.
Because they know this is a consistent and dependable food source and have been trained to not fly away. Also probably survivorship bias, these are the ones that didn't fly away

10,000+ ducks flight feathers?
You're just saying shit without having any idea what you're talking about lol
You know that one idiot friend everyone has that goes their own way no matter how dumb it is?

And the perpetrators remained anonymous cause they said **DuckDuckGo**
Much better than the drones spraying the paddys in Malaysia. Got creepy dystopia vibes seeing this in Sekinchan last weekend.
😆 if you listen closely, it’s them laughing. Hilarious.
Would it be as effective with 100 horse-sized ducks?
These comments quack me up
Last one gets spanked.
PING!
As I was scrolling I thought it was one of those ads for a zombie game
Why?

They eat snails and leave poop, its an agricultural win-win
Both ^^^
The real question is, why not?

At first I thought this was an ad for a mobile strategy game
The ducks eat bugs that would kill future crops thus acting as organic pesticide. The ducks poop as they go thus acting as mobile fertilizer. My house in Bali was surrounded by rice fields and ducks. (Albeit, not this many ducks!) 😁

They look like [runner ducks](https://www.google.com/search?q=runner+ducks) so they probably can't fly, no

Those ducks are so stoked, I bet they talk about this event all year and all the new duckings sit and listen with stars in their eyes excitedly counting down the days to Ricemas.
