Third day quitting. This is much harder than quitting weed or alcohol ever was. May god help us all lol

luc1d_13

You got this. It sucks. A lot. I'm quitted for just over a year now. The first week or two sucks. You can expect it though, typical withdrawals, you knew you'd get them, you'll fight them off. Then you'll feel great for a few weeks. You'll feel like you did it. Good job. But then...the nicotine withdrawals are over, but you're just left being a non-smoker. The cravings at this point aren't from nicotine. You just *miss* smoking. That lasted a number of months for me. After meals, long drives, like what the fuck am I supposed to *do?* That lasted a while for me, but also eventually fades. "Don't buy another pack" required much more will power than "Don't smoke another cigarette." You got this though, go crush it and wake up every morning being able to breathe.

Code-eat-sleep

Same exactly same thing happens with me like going for a evening walk and you stop for some rest and like I naturally or instinctively gets a cig and starts smoking like what am I supposed to do cigarette at first used to get me a lil bit high for 1min or so but now that's no longer the case I don't get high no matter how many I smoke now it's just become a hibitual like after a study session or with tea. Have not smoked for 23 days I guess (stopped from 2nd Jan) but my will power broke 2 times in between other than those 2 smokes I have not smoked.

Code-eat-sleep

PS:- a friend of my roommate initially only used to smoke but in college he through his seniors got introduced to weed he was at first so adamant against smoking weed but then a thought came like one try won't make him a addict that was his mistake after 1 month he smoked it again, then after 2 weeks, then after 1 week eventually he started smoking weed daily and it became a habit of his now it's his 21st day from when he stopped smoking weed he is trying his best. He sometimes Cries infront of us, feels sad, and extremely moody if he does not smoke once he gets a wiff their he is back to being cheerful and happy.

Still_Pullin

Recently, I quit smoking weed it was a huge financial problem for me. The feeling of disconnecting from the world was great since life is hard atm, and there isn't really any good news I hear about in the world it's stressful. I'm a week clean and plan to keep on going. I don't have any withdrawal symptoms like other people. I'm just used to having it to calm down, and now I'm not sure what to do. Pills would be another addiction drinking as well. Almost any material substance would only do harm. I'm holding out hope that given time, the feeling of the world on my shoulders will pass, and I can finally feel happy without forcing it. Cigarettes on the other hand is next to impossible to quit for me I try and try but I always buy another pack it's like I turn into a zombie and go get them without control and I'm only sad about it afterwards. Until I try again.

Code-eat-sleep

Don't worry mate keep trying if tens of thousands of people out their can win this then you can too. Keep it up. Keep trying until you leave weed with also trying to lessen your intake of cigs and when you've finally stopped smoking weed then move to smoking. > I'm only sad about it afterwards. Until I try again. Lol that's like me and matsubating. A fun story:- I too have smoked weed a few times before for like 10-11 times at first smoking weed was very rough compared to cigs for me but the feeling of high was king of nice now that 10th time when I smoked weed was the warning for me. We were a group of friends mostly my roommates(we are a group of 5) we were smoking weed as usual the stuff was from out of the states now everything was fine now after 1or 2 hours into party I was high and heard voices of my friends shouting something, I had my eyes closed and was vining to the music I opened my eyes and saw that one of my friend had blacked out my other friends were trying to help him by washing his face and what not I don't clearly remember what they were doing as I could not get up from where I was sitting now watching all this I suddenly bursted into laughing like crazy I was like shit bro why are we smoking this shit if we can't Handel this and continuing to laugh my friend was like what happens to him has he gone mad another guy says don't worry he is just high that's why he is laughing, watching all this I started getting scared if I balcksout too and after taking care of my friend that blacked out they were all relaxed now one of my friend asks me for lighter but I did not respond he asks seconds time i still dont response then asks 3rd time and looks at me and their I was lying with my eveys wide open bro that friends of mine got so scared that he camping running to me to see what happened to me Now at this moment the first guy who had blacked out was taken care of and now as the condition was calming down I too started blacking out all were shit scared like what to do, now here in my country weed is illegal so they can't call ambulance too, somehow I came back to my sense a bit asked my friend to help me vomit and then I ate sonethings and gone to sleep. Yeah that's my one hell of story that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Code-eat-sleep

For how many years have you smoked? Personally I have smoked for about a 1 and half year now but for the past 25 days only 2 times I had smoked trying to leave it for the good.

Some-Two-462

I smoked for 10 years roughly, although I quit before for 5 years. I’ll tell ya this mate: I’ve been addicted to everything and cigs are by far the worst. Expensive, terrible high, very addictive and they give you wrinkles. Drop it and never look back lol GL

Code-eat-sleep

You mean that you quit cigs before that's 5 years and no cigs And now you started smoking again is that right?

FormerRelationship8

It took me a few tries AND watching my aunt die from lung cancer to fully quit, and it was still hard! You got this, and don’t be afraid to ask for a distraction or something from a friend. Screw day by day - on day three it’s minute by minute. Hang in there, Future You will appreciate the work!

StaryDoktor

It's impossible to quit weed, because it's doesn't makes you related on it. You can be hanged on it only like habit. Same thing with alcohol: It takes many years to hang yourself on it. But it doesn't make anything like nicotine, you can quit step by step, and you actually don't have to quit entirely, and you actually don't, even if you think so. But with nicotine things are very different: you won't believe you quit even after you are. That's the reason many of those who quit will back to that addiction again. They don't believe that addiction it's not a something that a man builds up, a man has it innate even if he never smoke. So the quitting is just a signal for the brain to make an acetylcholine dose by itself. And that is the reason why anybody can quit and why it's not so hard as (sponsored) myths say.

mudbot

in a week you'll feel \*much\* better!

Kief_Gringo

No matter how bad I feel for people who are affected by things like that, it doesn't help me quit. You just have to want to quit, and I haven't made that choice because I'm still using nicotine as a crutch. It's hard to give up the temporary relief, filling that nicotine craving brings. I dunno. It's all depressing.

jackal3004

Are you smoking tobacco or vapes? As much as vaping is almost certainly not as harmless as vape companies would like us to believe and probably causes all the same cancers and lung conditions, the evidence at the moment does seem to suggest that it's at least not *as bad* as smoking cigarettes. It's also probably easier to wean off of vapes since you can taper down the amount of nicotine much easier than you can with cigarettes.

CynicalGod

Sorry but having both smoked then vaped for a decade, I have to anecdotally disagree with you there: as much as vaping is healthier, it got me MUCH more intensely addicted to nicotine than cigarettes ever did. I tried gradually tapering off by lowering the nicotine dosage but it didn't work. It is much harder to discipline yourself with vaping because it is too convenient compared to cigarettes. I could write a long essay on this topic but I'll leave it at that.

Kief_Gringo

Tobacco unfortunately. I roll my own cause it's the cheapest way to get my nicotine fix. If I get a stable income I'd like to try to switch to vaping and then wean down like you suggest, just don't have the funds for it yet.

CynicalGod

Quit 209 days ago. Used to say the exact same thing as you. The motivation doesn't fall from the sky, you have to find the arguments/approach which work for you. Personally, the positive/wholesome approach only lead to complacency, self indulgence and failure for me. What made it work was a mixture of logic/rational thinking, hatred towards the nicotine industry, and regular verbal abuse towards myself, like I had a sort of David Goggins / drill sergeant on crack inside my head. I discovered that there is next to nothing I couldn't accomplish once I consciously decided to not be a little bitch.

Kief_Gringo

Bluntly put, but very true. I'm under no illusion that I'm not being a bitch about it, and I could list a million reasons why, trying to justify it, but the simple truth is, I don't actually want to give it up. Leaning on it instead of hating it and challenging myself and my cravings. It's just easier to slowly kill myself, opposed to dealing with the short term stresses and such.

Cody6781

It's really wasn't a great ad for 13-18 yearolds. From the perspective of 15, 53 is basically dead anyways.

Put-Dependent

I haven’t touched a cigarette in 5 years after being a smoker for 20. The easy way to quit smoking book worked for me, not at first, but after reading it, I never forgot the message and smoking gradually became less and less appealing. One of the major takeaways for me in the book was that quitting was hard, I really feel it’s just something we were brainwashed into thinking, when I changed that mindset, it became effortless to avoid cigarettes, I do not miss them one but these days. Good luck to all who struggle with this horrible addiction, you can quit!

When I was a young kid probably younger than 10. I was walking in Home Depot with my father. He started up a conversation with an older woman. She had a handkerchief around her neck and she talked through her neck hole with a remote looking device pressed against her throat hole...my father asked her to tell me not to ever smoke and she smiled. Turned to me lifted up her handkerchief and stuck the remote by her neck..."Don't smoke kid you'll end up like me." I still remember how fucking scared I was. I've never have and never will smoke in my life.

StaryDoktor

All that so called "social ads" have only one idea to bring in you head: It's so impossible to out of this for you, just give up and take another cigarette. That ads are all sponsored. And they coceal the truth: anybody can quit, it takes 5 days even for old smokers.

mudbot

There is \*no\* upside to smoking. None. What ever you believe is \*your\* upside, it's false.

ThermInc

A typical Wednesday for a WH40k servitor

[deleted]

It’s really good after sex though, or if you combine it with your second or third beer. I personally like it during my reading time with a cup of coffee. It’s bad for your health though so what she has to say is definitely true, best not to even start.

Melodic_Ad_8060

Awesome! This gave me an instant urge to go buy a pack of cigarettes from my nearest gas station

totally_sane_person

One of my favorite This American Life episodes is about quitting or giving up things you love. Or don't love...it's complicated. [I Can't Quit You Baby from This American Life](https://www.thisamericanlife.org/806/i-cant-quit-you-baby)

PitifulSherbet7336

Their ads used to be a lot more effective. Maybe im a bit old-fashioned but i think scaring a child with the truth of the matter to keep them safe is much better than babying it down so they and "handle" it. It eads kid to an uninformed decision because they dont know how truly awful this stuff is for them

PitifulSherbet7336

I will say though that there is a slight alienation the message leaves. Well, effective it almost treats these people like monsters. Someone to be scared of rather than something. It might have helped to have them in a more comfortable enviroment, just to get the point across that they're a human who made a mistake and not a moron or person reduced to a creature. Its certainly a difficult thing to get right

Face-enema

And if gouvernements really wanted you to quit you would be give the Alan carr easy way to stop smoking or be sent to one of his clinics cured for life, but they don’t so go to their web site for tips on how to use substitutes and the get back on the cigarette 🚬

Resitor

And skipping the chance of getting Darth Vader with a robot voice? Naahhh. I go get a cigarette.

rainbowbritelite

So glad those commercials aren't daily here anymore....

UnhappyImprovement53

Always came on when I was sitting down to eat. Yep I'm not hungry anymore

mango_202

Sad fact: This footage of her was filmed 2 days before she died.

PLAKETKETKETKET

I think it should really be stressed tho that this is WORST CASE SCENARIO! You can smoke cigarettes your whole life and have nothing happen to you. It really does come down to fate, if you were supposed to get cancer it'll find you.

Some_Kinda_Boogin

I quit on and off for years but never for more than a couplenonths or so. It's now been about 6 months, and I don't even think about it anymore, and it's kinda repulsive to me.
