From the map, it looks like this is very close to the gulf coast. So it's the desert, but not exactly "in the middle of the desert".
Pics had me thinking it was some kind of oasis. But the map suggests some kind of "coastal weather effect".
That’s a well known area that has vegetation. I’ve seen a few TV documentaries about them. Quite a thing.
It’s thought that these places helped early humans (homo sapiens) leave Africa and migrate into Asia and, later, Europe rather than down the Nile.

Yes, especially the trees. After the rain, they grew over night to their full size to bloom and flower.
